Chapter 19: The Family of Blood: Part 1….
The first feeling that Lilly felt was confusion. Then she felt like this was one of her dreams that she would wake up at any moment. Now she felt scared. And she hadn't felt like this since John died.
"Make your decision, Miss Smith," Jenny taunted.
While Lilly kept glancing at Michael and Martha, Tim reached into his pocket and brought out the watch. The watch was angry. It was furious that it couldn't protect the ones that it loved. While The Family was distracted by trying to figure out how to bring back Bad Wolf, Tim opened the watch for a brief second.
"Time Lord…. Half human."
The Family of Blood got distracted; Martha used this to her advantage. She twisted Jenny's arm behind her back and grabbed the gun from Jenny's other hand and pointed at the maid's head.
"One more move and I'll shoot," Martha growled at Baines.
Baines smirked. "Oh, the maid is full of fire!" he jeered.
Martha rolled her eyes. "And you can shut up," she said, pointing the gun at the ceiling instead and fired, still holding Jenny captive.
"Careful, Son of Mine. This is all for you so that you can live forever," Clarke warned.
Baines thought for a moment before pointing his gun at Martha. "Shoot you down!"
Martha shrugged, directing the gun at Baines. "Try it. We'll die together."
"Would you really pull the trigger? Looks too scared," Baines commented.
"Scared and holding a gun. It's a good combination. You wanna risk it?" Martha asked.
Baines pursed his lips before turning to look at Lilly, who looked confused and scared at the same time. An expression that Martha wasn't use to seeing on Rose's face. Baines lowered his gun, directed at Michael who rushed by Lilly's side.
"Rose, get everyone out. There's a door at the side. It's over there. Go on!" Martha said loudly but Lilly looked confused. "I mean you My Lady!"
Michael luckily for Martha, was in his element and started to direct everyone out. "Do what she said. Everybody out now."
Once everyone was out, Martha turned to Lilly. "My Lady, you go as well."
Lilly shook her head. "I'm not leaving you Martha. I don't want someone else I care about dead!" she protested.
"Dr Johnson, get her out!" Martha demanded and Michael picked up Lilly and put her over his shoulder.
Martha had a strong vision that Rose or Lilly, would be kicking and screaming to Michael to put her down so she could save Martha. Martha huffed before she turned her attention back to the Family and pushed Jenny out of the way.
"Don't try anything. I'm warning you, or sonny boy gets it," Martha told Jenny while looking at Baines.
Baines smirked. "She's almost brave, this one," he told Jenny who nodded as they began to advance.
"I should have taken her form. Much more fun. So much spirit."
Martha slowly began to back away. "What happened to Jenny? Is she gone?"
"She is consumed. Her body's mine."
Martha frowned. "You mean she's dead?" she asked.
"Yes. And she went with precious little dignity. All that… screaming."
Martha couldn't move since she was grabbed behind by a scarecrow.
"Get the gun!" Baines ordered and while the scarecrow grabbed the gun, Martha ducked behind the scarecrow and ran out the door where she bumped into Lilly and Dr Johnson.
"Well don't just stand there! Run! God you're useless when you don't know about aliens," Martha huffed as she ran back to the school with Lilly and Dr Johnson following her.
….
When they arrived at the school, Michael closed the heavy doors and ran to the bell and started to ring the bell.
"What the hell are you doing?" Lilly hissed.
"We're under attack. This school teaches these boys to fight. If it means to protect you, then I will."
Lilly growled. "These are boys, not soldiers! The scarecrows are not from this world. What makes you think normal weapons will kill them?"
Michael ignored her and started to direct the boys to get ready for an oncoming attack when the headmaster approached.
"Dr Johnson! What is the meaning of this? Before I devise an excellent and endless series of punishments for each and every one of you, could someone explain very simply and immediately exactly what is going on?" the headmaster shouted.
Michael looked at the headmaster with a serious expression. "The school is under attack. Miss Smith and I were at the village and saw Mr Baines and Mr Clarke from Oakham Farm. They've gone mad, sir. They've got guns. They've already murdered people in the village. I saw it happen."
The headmaster grew quiet before turning to Lilly. "Miss Smith, is that so?"
Lilly nodded. "It's true Sir. I saw it with my own eyes."
"Murder on our own soil?"
"I saw it sir, yes," Lilly said, not taking her glare off Michael who was staring at the headmaster.
The headmaster pursed his lips before turning to Michael. "Perhaps you did well then, Dr Johnson. What makes you thing the danger's coming here?"
"Mr Baines threatened Miss Smith. Said that he'd follow her here. Although we don't know why," Michael explained.
The headmaster nodded slowly. "Very well. You boys, remain on guard. Mr Snell, telephone the police. Mr Philips, with me. We shall investigate," he demanded before he walked away, leaving Michael, Lilly and Martha alone in the corridor.
….
Tim was hiding in an abandon hallway. He had no desire in fighting this. Besides the watch in his pocket told him to keep it safe, and that's what he would do.
"What do I do? What do I do?" Tim asked quietly as he slowly turned the watch in the palms in his hands.
"Beware…"
Tim frowned. "Beware of what?"
"Her…"
Tim looked up and saw a little girl with long blonde hair, holding a red balloon in her hand. Tim stood up and hid the watch behind his back.
"Keep away," he threatened.
The girl frowned. "Who are you?"
Tim's eyes widened as he recognised her. "I saw you at the dance. You were with that family. You're one of them."
"What are you hiding?"
"Nothing."
"What have you got there?"
"Nothing."
The girl glared. "Show me, little boy."
Tim stared back. "I reckon whatever you are, you're still in the shape of a girl. How strong is she, do you think? Does she really want to see this?" he asked and opened the watch, directed at her who saw Rose drenched in water as she killed the Racnoss with Donna.
The little girl ran off.
….
Meanwhile, Michael was with Lilly's maid who was searching through Lilly's things, looking for that blasted watch.
"I know it sounds mad, but when Rose became human again, he took the half alien part of herself and stored it inside the watch. It's not really a watch, it just looks like a watch," Martha explained.
Michael frowned. "I take it that half alien…. Means not from abroad?"
Martha shook her head. "She was human before. But she travelled with an alien named The Doctor and fell in love with him. But they got separated and Rose travelled in a time machine by herself for three months. This was before she met me."
"You're human then?" Michael asked.
Martha nodded. "Human, don't worry, and more than that, I just don't follow him around. I'm training to be a doctor… not an alien doctor… a proper doctor, a doctor of medicine."
Michael scoffed. "A female, training to be a doctor? A doctor with your colour?"
Martha glared at him. "Oh, d'you think?" she asked before holding up her left hand. "Bones of the hand. Carpal bones, proximal row; scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform. Distal row; trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate. Then the metecarpal bones extending in three distinct phalanges; proximal, middle, distal."
Michael looked impressed before he frowned. "You read that in a text book."
Martha laughed. "Yeah. To pass my exams!"
Michael pursed his lips. "I must go," he said as he walked to the door.
Martha turned to him. "If we find that watch we can stop them."
"I might not be part of this school, but those boys will get hurt. They'll need a proper doctor."
….
Lilly bumped into Michael with two boys behind her, who was in his doctor's uniform, preparing for causalities.
"You're with Armitage and Thwaites. They know the drill," Lilly demanded before turning to Michael who had his mouth slightly opened.
"You should be in hiding!" Michael argued.
Lilly rolled her eyes. "I'm not delicate," she snapped as the two boys left. "But it's a fine evening we've had together."
Michael nodded. "Not the way I imagined it though… tell me about Nottingham."
Lilly raised her eyebrow. "What?"
"That's where you were brought up. Tell me about it," Michael said.
"Why? Why do you need to know about my background at a time like this?" Lilly asked.
"But more that facts. When you were a child, where did you play? All those secret little places...dens and hideaways that only a child knows? Tell me, Lilly. Please tell me," Michael begged as he lightly grabbed Lilly's shoulders.
Lilly frowned slightly. "How can you not think I'm not real, Michael? Remembered when you kissed me? That was real, I'm not a fake."
Michael shook his head. "No, it was real."
Lilly bit her lip, tears welling up in her hazel eyes. "But this Rose Tyler… she sounds like some….waiting princess, waiting for her lost prince. Am I really not enough?" she asked quietly.
"No, that's not true. Never," Michael denied, putting his right hand on Lilly's cheek and caressed it softly.
Lilly nodded before she sighed. "I should go and help the headmaster."
"Martha was right about one thing, though. Those boys… they're children. Lilly Smith wouldn't want them to fight, never mind Rose Tyler. The Lilly Smith I was getting to know… she knows it's wrong, doesn't she?" Michael questioned softly.
"Miss Smith! If you please!" The headmaster called, shattering the little bubble that the two just created.
Lilly sighed. "What choice do I have?" she said and then she kissed Michael on the lips deeply before running to joining the headmaster, leaving Michael alone.
A/N: Thanks for everyone who reviewed the last chapter! I know, not even three days and I posted another chapter :)
Onto other matters, I've decided to write another Doctor Who story. It's going to be a roles reversed. Basically Rose is a Time Lady and The Doctor is the human companion named John Smith. It's going to go by the cannon, but some of my original work will be in it! Stayed tuned for that….
Anyway, please review. It makes me write more :D
Thank you.
