Chapter Twenty(episode 16 part 2)
Recap!
"You're an idiot." I look behind me and toward the fire demon. I gave him a shaky smile.
"I'm human."
The demon cat roared and caused some of the ground to give away and fall. An arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me back. I look to see Yusuke's annoyed face.
"Cherri, You could have gotten killed!" I gave him a small smile.
"Sorry Yusuke." I patted his hand and went to stand by Hiei and Kurama. I looked at Kurama and he gave me a charming smile. I looked at Hiei and he only glanced at me.
"I don't need your protection. You're a weak human. You can do nothing to protect a demon."
"Hiei.." Kurama voice told him to stop. I look back at Kurama and pat his hand.
"It's alright Kurama." I look back at Hiei. "I know that I can't protect a demon as strong as you, Hiei. I know that I'm weak." I stop and gave him a smile. "But look at Yusuke. He's a human and he beat you." I saw his jaw clench and he glared at me. Kurama chuckled behind his hand. "To know that Yusuke did something like that gives me...strength to be able to protect you." He stared at me for a while then looked away and to watch Kuwabara's battle instead. Kurama patted my shoulder.
"I hope to see you get stronger." I placed my hand over his.
"Me too."
Kuwabara started to walk toward the demon ready to battle.
"He really thinks he can beat him." Hiei stated.
"I know he can beat him." I say confidently.
"Yeah, I'm not scared of him." Kuwabara said smugly.
"Then your legs are shaking out of eagerness." Yusuke said bluntly pointing to Kuwabara's legs, which were shaking uncontrollably. I laughed a little.
"Leave me alone, Uremeshi!" I sigh as they continue to argue. I hit Yusuke on the head.
"Stop teasing him Yusuke, this is serious." He looked at me and nodded his head. I looked back at Kuwabara and saw him already in front of the demon.
"Let's Fight, Byakko monster!" Byakko growled then stopped and started laughing.
"I can't fight if you keep making me laugh!" This seemed to anger Kuwabara. He yelled at Byakko agian only to have him laugh louder. Byakko thinks that Kuwabara can't win. I cup my hands around my mouth.
"You can do this Kuwabara!" I yell then give him a thumbs up. He gave me a shaky smile then turned his attention back to Byakko. I watched as Byakko pulled out some of his hair between his pointer finger and thumb. He blew on it and the strands lifted in the air and over Kuwabara's head. Suddenly the broke apart landed on the ground with loud thuds. The hairs transformed into giant green demons.
"These demons are apart of me." Byakko explained, smugly " And like me, they are hungry." One of them lunged at Kuwabara and slashed his chest with it's claws.
I gasped and covered my mouth with my hands.
"Kuwabara!" Yusuke yelled in worry.
Kuwabara stood back up and summoned his spirit sword. I looked at Byakko and he was impressed with what he saw. The demons all lunged at Kuwabara slashing him with their claws. Kuwabara tried to slash them but they were to fast.
"Get your back against the wall!" Yusuke yelled.
"He has no strategy. He's just swinging his sword with the grace of a fly swatter." Hiei stated. I looked at him but said nothing. He was right. I looked back to the battle and Kuwabara was on the ground, panting. They all lunged at him again slashing all over his body.
"Kuwabara!" I yelled. I gripped Yusuke's sleeve, my knuckles turning white. Yusuke yelled at Kuwabara, no, He pleaded to him. Yusuke was begging Kuwabara to trade places with him. I could hear the worry in his voice as he yelled. Byakko stood on his platform laughing at battle like it was some comedy show.
"Ok Kuwabara, I don't care if you trade or not, I'm coming to help!" Yusuke made to move but I wrapped my arms around his arm and held him back. He whipped his head around and looked at me in bewilderment.
"Cherri! what are you doing!" I looked at him with a frown.
"Yusuke, I know you want to help Kuwabara but I don't think he wants your help." I told him. "If you go over there to help him, Kuwabara will turn his sword on you. Kuwabara wants to prove that he is not weak. He wants to prove that he's strong." I told him trying to look determined.
"I couldn't have said it better myself Cherri!" I heard Kuwabara say. I looked toward him and blushed, embarrassed that he heard me. Yusuke looked at me then at Kuwabara.
"...Fine."
Suddenly Kuwabara started to run toward us, the demons clos on his heels. I squeaked when Kurama wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me to his chest and quickly turned his back on everybody. I clutched Kurama's uniform in my hands and squeezed my eyes shut.
"Sword get longer!" Suddenly everything went quiet. I moved my head to the side and saw Kuwabara standing alone the demons were done and only Byakko stood.
"He...won.." I whispered in relief. I smiled then looked at Byakko and my smile disappeared. Byakko's was snarling, his body shaking and anger was rolling off of his body. His aura of blood lust made me shiver in fear. Byakko lets out a loud roar and light suddenly strikes the broken tower behind us. I jump in fright and hug whoever was closest to me. I feel warmth against my cheeks and turn my head slightly. Hiei's red eyes glared into my blue ones. I never noticed how beautiful they are, even if it reminds me of blood. The thought makes my stomach do flip flops.
"If you want to keep your arms I suggest you let go of me." I blush and quickly let go clasping my hands behind my back.
"Sorry Hiei." I apologize. He stared at me and looked away with a 'Hn'
Kuwabara walks toward Byakko again.
"Destroy the tower all you want, It doesn't change the fact that your little monsters are beat and your about to be next." Kuwabara one day your confidence is going to get you killed. Byakko jumps down from his little mound and lands in fron of Kuwabara, making the orange haired delinquent jump back a bit. From far away Byakko looked normal, but now that he's closer I was clearly mistaken. He was huge! almost as big as a house.
"What are the odds that Kuwabara is going to call for his mommy?" I hit Yusuke's shoulder lightly.
"Yusuke this is no time to make jokes!" I scolded him. He sticks his tongue out at me childishly.
Byakko lets out a sharp laugh. "I can smell your fear. Clearly your body knows something your brain does not." Kuwabara charges at Byakko and slashes him across the chest with his spirit sword. Byakko didn't even flinch. Kuwabara dodged as Byakko slammed his fist on the ground. Kuwabara continued to slash at Byakko's body, but nothing seems to be damaging the giant demon cat.
"Somethings wrong." I say looking at the fight with furrowed brows. Yusuke looks at me with a confused look.
"Take a look at the fighters." Hiei says and Yusuke quickly looks toward the battle. "Even though it looks like Kuwabara has the upper hand against Byakko it seems like he is taking all the blows."
I gasped as I realized something, "Guys look at Byakko! He's getting taller!" I point toward the demon and see him visibly growing.
"Now I see. " Kurama steps up a bit. "Look at Kuwabara's sword." We all look at the spirit sword and see that it's smaller. "Byakko is stealing Kuwabara's energy." Kurama continued with narrowed eyes.
Byakko laughs. "You finally caught me. I've been feeding off of your spirit energy for quite some time now." Kuwabara adds more energy to his sword, but it only caused him to fall to his knees.
"Oh no, Kuwabara." I whisper, worry lacing my tone.
"Stop Kuwabara, your only going to make him get bigger!" Yusuke yelled. Kuwabara, being the stubbron person he is, charged at Byakko again.
Byakko only gave a predatory smile.
