CHAPTER 20
Last minute hotel
I dozed off in the car as Lottie weaved in and out of traffic. She was making good time and I knew the flight was at six. She had phoned ahead to say we wouldn't be checking in until an hour before, for some reason, the mention of her name alone was enough for them to be fine with that. I had opened my eyes to see the skyline of Seattle and I loved it. We passed various buildings and streets as she drove us to the airport. I checked my phone and there were no messages so Jacob hadn't seen the letter yet; my stomach dropped a little knowing he was going to be so pissed. Lottie's phone had been buzzing in her bag but she ignored it so I reached over to take it out, I knew she wouldn't mind; there had been seven missed calls from Gemma.
She pulled into the airport and drove right up the main entrance, even though it said 'taxi's and drop off's only'. There was a valet waiting for her as she screeched to a halt. "Right Ness, grab your things," she barked as she left the engine running, popped the trunk then got out of the car. The valet was a young man who was already in the trunk getting our things out. I took our handbags and made sure everything was inside, passing my friend her purse. Lottie handed the young man a note and he gave her a black card which she put inside her purse. "Take care of the car," she grinned.
"Ma'am, this car will have no one but me near it after the tip you just gave me," he did a small salute and hopped into the car, driving a lot slower than Lottie, leaving the drop off area. Our small suitcases were on the sidewalk and we both reached over, pulling out the handles so we could roll them. Lottie reached into her handbag to pull out some documentation.
I followed her as she breezed into the entrance, making her way over to a United Airlines check in desk. The girl behind the counter flashed a big smile. "Hello Ma'am how can I help you?"
We had managed to make it to Seattle in less than three hours but we had been cutting it fine. "I have two tickets for the flight to New York which boards soon," Lottie handed her the paperwork.
The girl looked at it, typed a few keys on her workstation. "Ok Miss Willets, the flight will be boarding in fifteen minutes. I need both of your identification," she held out her hand, both of us giving her passports. She checked them both, satisfied, handed them back and gave Lottie two tickets and she passed one onto me. I looked down at it…we were in first class. "Okay ladies, if you make your way to security, then to the first class lounge for boarding. I'm not sure if you have time to peruse the duty free."
"Oh that's ok, I am not bothered. Thank you. Do you need to weigh our hand luggage?"
"No need Miss Willets, just carry on through, have a nice flight."
Lottie smiled, turned to me. "We had better hurry."
We walked quickly through the vast airport, following the signs for security. We had to stop to put our perfumes and some make up into clear bags. Lottie went into the first class queue with me behind her so we avoided the long line. We both went through one at a time, Lottie had to go through the X-ray machine and thankfully I was just rubbed down. Our bags were scanned and cleared and we rushed over to the pharmacy shop in the duty free. Lottie left me with her case as she ran in to buy toiletries that we could both share. Minutes passed when she came out with a bag and she had to stop to open her case to put them in. Lottie was kneeling on the ground when I heard two familiar voices.
I turned round to see Matt and Doug walk out of one of the duty free shops with a bag each talking to each other. I grabbed Lottie carefully under the arm, pulled her up, she held onto her suitcase and I held onto mine as I ran us quickly to an alcove, keeping Lottie's feet just off the ground so we went unnoticed. "What is it?" Lottie whispered.
"Matt and Doug, they came out of a shop," I peered round to see that they were standing in the middle of the duty free area conversing with another couple.
I had practically pinned Lottie to the wall, keeping us out of sight. "What are they doing?"
"Talking."
"We are going to miss our plane," she hissed.
I kept my eye on them. "What do you suppose I do?"
"I could cause a distraction," I let her go and she peered round the corner, it took her a moment to spot them as the area was busy. They were standing next to some pots with large plants in them that stood around four foot high. The ceramic suddenly burst, causing soil to cascade around their feet and the plant to tumble next to them. "GO!"
We both picked up our cases and ran as they were bent down, sweeping the soil off them and laughing with each other. We kept running until we found our boarding number on the sign, turned the corner and ran down another corridor to where three flight attendants were waiting behind a desk, the computerised sign above them with the flight number and 'New York' was above them with the word boarding closed. "Sorry!" Lottie shouted as we reached the desk. "We had to get through security!" she thrust her ticket into the male flight attendants hand and I followed suit.
"Not a problem Miss Willets, Miss Cullen, if you would like to come this way we can get you seated," the male flight attended sashayed his way around the desk and took both of our cases; one under the arm and the other in his left hand. The other two attendants shut the large doors behind us as no one was able to board. We quickly followed him down the encased area and to the door of the large plane waiting for us. We walked through and I could see everyone seated with their belts on in economy, another attendant shut the plane doors behind us. Our attendant went up a set of spiral stairs, indicating for us to follow and then we arrived in first class.
I was quite impressed; having flown in a private jet, I had been spoiled, but you could tell this plane was quite new. Each person had booths that had a long chair that reclined out into a bed. There were a small TV, blankets, pillows, headphones. There were other amenities but for such a short flight we would not need them. "Please be seated, put your belts on; we need to take off but the plane has to travel down the runway, I will come and see to you when we are up in the air. My name is Gavin," he smiled, almost looking relieved. I noticed there were stand alone booths, but ours were joined. Each booth had curved walls of sorts that allowed for privacy for which I was grateful as I had some things I wanted to know and ask my friend.
I ignored the flight attendant as they went through the safety brief and before long the plane was trundling along to the end of the runway. Lottie pulled her phone from her bag as it vibrated again. I peered over. "It's Gemma," Lottie made a face.
"Did you leave her a note?"
"No, I just sent her a text earlier saying I let all the staff go home."
"Has she said anything?"
"Not yet, just asking where I am, I think she was looking for a lift home but Seth came and got her," her phone vibrated again and Lottie peered over to make sure she wasn't seen. "She has asked where I am as she has called Chris who informed her that we would be in my room but I am not there, that the car isn't there. She wants to know what is going on. I hate lying to her."
"What are you going to say?"
Lottie smirked. "That I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again." Her thumbs were typing quickly.
"Oh Lottie, that's mean."
"Well she is my sis but I have my life and she has hers, plus she didn't tell some information which I am pissed at but what can I do? And again, she isn't my guardian." Her phone buzzed again. "She wants to know what I mean by that and where am I," Lottie paused. "I'll tell her that I am fine and to enjoy her weekend with Seth." She tapped furiously again then switched her phone onto 'Aeroplane Mode', I reached into my bag and did the same, thankfully no messages but I think there might be when I turned it back on.
"Ok Ladies and Gentlemen," the pilot started his intro. He droned on about how the weather was good and how we would arrive in three hours, possibly two and a half. "Now sit back and have a nice flight."
"Do you still have your shield around you?" I whispered as the engines roared to life.
Lottie nodded. "Yeah," she closed her eyes. "And around you too, but I am going to have to let it go shortly cos I feel tired. I can sleep on the plane. Our phones will go crazy when they go back on."
"Yeah I am not looking forward to that. I do have a few questions before you have a snooze."
Lottie gripped the side of her seat as the plane started to roll, then accelerate. She shut her eyes, nodding at me as the momentum of flight took us up off the tarmac and into the air; I felt a slight pressure force me down as the plane ascended up. My body was back in my seat as we ascended. Ten minutes passed when the seatbelt sign went off above us. I took it off, reclined my chair so that I could put my legs out in front and so I could lean back. Lottie did the same and she moved the little partition adjoining us down so we could speak quietly, she turned her body so she was lying in her chair as it now looked like a small bed. "Ok, what do you want to know?"
"You said you were pissed at Gemma? What for?"
Lottie sighed. "She made me a silent partner. I found out when I opened a letter which was sent to me by mistake. I contacted Helen who confirmed it a few days ago. I own fifty percent of the business which is good in a way as if there to be a takeover it would be harder, but annoyed cos I really didn't want to be part of it but I have no choice now."
"Well you are a rich woman," I commented trying not to give it away that we knew, although Gemma didn't tell me it was half. I knew she wouldn't let her sister go without nothing.
"I am, I have a large inheritance, which would be sufficient for at least four generations of family if none of us worked, but this adds to it. It's done with now and Helen is in charge, I told her I don't want anything to do with it if I can help it, just send me the money," she chuckled.
"Ok," I changed the subject. "When did you realise that you could do this?" I waved generally around me, indicating the invisible shield.
"Right after getting you back after you accidently drank my blood. It was like everything slotted into place. I can't explain it better than that. Jasper and Emmett have been amazing with training. It took a few weeks but we managed to layer my shield piece by piece until it became natural for me to do so. I don't tend to use it every day like I have been doing since this morning but this is the longest I have done it for."
"And how to do you feel?"
"I won't lie; tired, I have a niggling pain at the front of my head-"
"But you have been shielding me too."
"Yes. I have done it so it has hidden our brains, where our decisions are made, rather than make it more physical than that. I can't explain why you can eat, breath etcetera but it works, the mental side of it where it affects Alice, Jasper and Edward. Keith has been great with the physical side as they cannot find me when I am in a full shield. I have had to work on it to make it clear as to begin with it started out opaque."
"What about your telekinesis?"
"That has gotten stronger. I haven't really tested my limits on that yet without getting a headache. So far, I can lift a house off its foundations."
My eyes bulged from my head. "What?"
"Emmett took me to Port Angeles where they were knocking down houses to build new ones. I can lift a two storey, four bedroomed house from the ground, with no bother. Cars and trucks are no bother. But it does make me tired. I find I do need to sleep more."
"Maybe you could bench press a plane with your brain," I giggled.
"Maybe," Lottie pondered for a moment. "But there really isn't a need to do so though is there."
"So no limits?"
"Well, being human is the limit, I suppose. I have to eat more, sleep a bit more, I get tired if I use it more than normal. But I am glad we have found out what I can do, where I can take it. Also for my safety really, I still get a sense of danger, if you know what I mean, but the intensity of that hasn't changed unlike my telekinesis."
"What do you mean 'for my safety'? You mean vampires?"
"No, I don't think the Volturi will make an attempt again, Carlisle thought that was the case; he thought humans would be the issue. Can you imagine what people would do if they realised what I could do? I mean high rolling people. I would be a lab rat," she started to chuckle. "Or a field agent."
"Mmmm, but you could just get yourself out."
"Not if I'm drugged up."
"I thought that was something you were all going to try."
"Carlisle is keen, me not so much but I want to see where I can go, but Keith and Emmett were a flat out no."
"And after rebelling against Keith now, you wouldn't do it?"
Lottie smirked. "I think when we get back we are going to be on lockdown but yes, I will give it a go at some point. What I have achieved with all their help in the last few weeks, well; this time last year were just not possible. I think the progress I am making is a little scary for some. Sometimes I see Jacob looking at me differently, Keith does too sometimes. He would never say so, but I can feel it from him."
"Jacob has never mentioned it."
"Maybe I am reading into it, I dunno, I do know that if I can do this, that there are other people out there with similar abilities. Rarities, but there. Carlisle hasn't been able to find anyone, but he runs the risk of finding someone and outing them, endangering them I suppose. And they may or may not be … right in the head."
"And you are?" I snorted.
"Ha ha," Lottie rolled her eyes. "Saner than most," she took a breath. "I'm going to let down the shield. They can't contact us in the air but I'm hoping there will be no one that your vampires know will be there waiting for us to get off the plane."
"It's a risk, but..."
"But, I need some sleep."
"I will be able to smell a vampire if they are there."
"Ok, that's what you will do, if Alice's sees what happens if they call someone, we can avoid them. I can shield us when we get off the plane so they can't smell us. Ok, here goes," Lottie eyes dilated slightly and I felt the shield leave me then leave her. She closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. "Wow, it's weird it not being there," she smiled.
"Like it was normal to keep it there?"
"Yeah."
"Ok, get some sleep," I patted her on the head. Lottie grabbed an eye mask and laid back in her chair, resting her head on the pillow, shutting her eyes. I switched the TV on, attached the little headphones and watched a film, my eyes flickering towards my phone in trepidation.
"Thank you for boarding with United Airlines," a smiley air hostess waved goodbye to us as disembarked off the plane. I could feel the weather was hotter here than in Forks, but with a totally different smell. I realised the smell was the lack of tree.
My phone weighed heavily in my pocket but I kept walking until we reached customs. We went through the rigmarole of customs making sure we were the right people. We managed to find a break in the crowds of people as it was so busy, to stand to the side before we left towards duty free. I took a moment to smell the air and I couldn't catch the scent of a vampire. I was holding onto Lottie's arm as I turned my phone on. As soon as it was ready to go it buzzed and buzzed and buzzed. Lottie's did the same; I could see I literally had hundreds of missed calls, voice messages and text messages as they flooded in, Lottie was snorting and huffing as she read hers;
Jacob – Nessie, I need you to call me. Now! x
Dad – WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?
Jacob – WHY THE FUCK HAVE YOU GONE TO NEW YORK! KEITH, EDWARD AND I ARE OUT OF OUR MINDS!
Mom – Nessie, please call or text me, let me know you are ok sweetie. x
Emmett – What the actual fuck Ness! I am going to kill you two when you get back!
Alice – You do realise I have to try and keep and eye on you all weekend! x
Carlisle – I don't know why you have both decided to do this but stay safe.
Jacob – Please call me, please, I am so worried. I got your note.
Jacob – I am going to Seattle. I will speak to you and your friend when I get back, we are going out of our minds here. How dare you do something like this! It is so selfish. All you needed to do was ask. You don't know what the answer would have been. I have bigger things to be dealing with this weekend. You two have gone about this the wrong way, acting like children. I know you are not happy about us spying on you but we have our reasons. You are my imprint and I would do anything to protect you but by Christ I could kill you right now!
Dad – Nessie, please text us to let us know you are safe. Love you xx
I thought it was going to be worse, I did have to inner chuckle at Alice's message and I decided there and then I would text Mom back to let her know I was ok. I looked at Lottie and I could see concern shoot through her face but it disappeared. She offered her phone to me and me to her. The messages were worse than mine;
Gemma – Where are you? You are not in the house and you sent all the staff home? x
Gemma – OH MY FUCKING GOD YOU HAVE GONE TO NEW YORK! Why not tell me? I just found out about the spying, Seth told me, Jacob found the letter an hour ago, I am meant to be your sister, you can tell me anything. I know you are an adult but this was not the way to go and you know it. You are so impulsive, you don't realise the upset you have caused here. I noticed this message was sent an hour after we got in the air.
Keith – I am so disappointed in you Charlotte. I really am. You could have just done what you were told but no, you go and do this your way. I am not happy with you, Jacob is fuming and I don't blame him, you have basically dragged Nessie into this too. How dare you do this without regards for yours and Nessie's safety. You have no idea what you have caused back here. The worry, the anger and panic you have both caused. I am so mad with you right now!
Keith – Call me when you land, this is an order. I had raised my eyebrow at this. "Saw that did you?" Lottie snorted.
Emmett – WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING YOU STUPID GIRL! I would have at least gone with you had you asked. I know you are not happy about us checking in on you but it had to be done one way or another, this is an irresponsible use of your power and have totally abused what Jasper and I have worked with you on. I cannot believe you would drag Nessie into this. We will be having words when you both get back!
Jacob – Mad doesn't even cover what I am feeling. I am telling you now that you have lost trust from all of us. How dare you do this! This is so fucking selfish of you – do you realise what you have just done, the worry going through my mind, the worry going through Keith's mind? I could literally murder you, you have no idea how much I want to tear you limb from limb, and the only thing that is stopping me is that you are Keith's imprint. You stupid, irresponsible, little girl.
Keith – Charlotte, please call, let me know you are safe, I am going out of my mind.
Jasper – I will be here for you when you get back. What you have done is stupid and reckless but everyone is so mad and forgetting the real reason why you have just gone and knee jerked a situation. Don't do anything silly when you are there, and if you need to; call me, you won't get any abuse from me. x
I took a deep breath. Oh shit! Seriously. I know in a way we deserved this, but the abuse Jacob just gave Lottie was not nice. I appreciated what Jasper wrote to her, instead of shouting he was being there; even Emmett was having a go. "Jesus," I chewed my lip.
"Yeah," she snorted. "Jesus ain't gonna help us now. I'll take the flak for it. They can't ban me from their lives. I know too much and although I am mad with Keith and he is with me, we are still imprinted with each other. There was a moment when we saw Matt that I wanted to turn back. But I had committed. I wasn't changing my mind."
"But I decided to come with you."
"I kinda guilted you into it," she smiled weakly. "I thought Emmett would have been on my side. Jasper surprised me; I'm going to phone him back," she started to tap on the phone and I replied to Mom.
As soon as it sent she called, for a moment I hesitated but I wanted to talk to her. I slid my finger along the touch screen. "Hello?" I said quietly.
I could hear a flurry of angry voices in the background then wind. Mom was running, and I knew to get some peace. "Hey honey. You know what you have done is reckless?"
Lottie had her phone to her ear so I took a few steps away from her, but keeping her in my sight and I sat down in a chair. "I know but she would have gone on her own."
"I know. I can't really condemn you for it; I did the same with Edward. Just stay safe. I know you have taken your card, just use it."
"Why are you not shouting? I could hear Jacob and Dad before."
"Because I am not mad. They are; they are pissed. But I do not have any right to be mad. Charlie pointed that out to me before. I do wish you told someone, but….Edward, she is fine, give me a moment."
"I don't want to talk to him if he is going to shout."
"That's ok sweetie. Just stay safe," there was wind again and I knew Mom was trying to find some peace and then the sound of wind stopped. "I love you, Jacob is pissed, so is your father, but you will have to deal with them when you get back."
"Lottie as well," I looked over to my friend was now on the phone.
"More so really. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes, put it that way."
"Oh god."
"Well you made your decision, you are there now so go and do what Lottie set out to do and have a good time, go and see a show, go and do some shopping or go sightseeing. Cos you won't be getting out of Forks for a while if our family have anything to do with it," she giggled.
I groaned. "I made my bed. Let Jacob know that as much as he hates me right now I still love him and remind Dad of what you did for him, maybe he might realise this isn't as bad as it looks."
"I know this is really on Lottie but you decided to go."
"I know, and I have to shoulder that when I get back."
"Ok, I have to go, Jacob and Edward are here. Love you."
"Love you too, thanks for understanding."
"I am always here," then the phone suddenly cut off.
I took another deep breath then my stomach started to do summersaults. I actually felt a little sick. Lottie found me and came over. "Well?" I asked.
"Jasper was great, all I could hear in the background was Emmett shouting obscenities in general but I could hear Jacob saying some awful things about me," she said quietly. "I know when he hates someone he really hates them. I think I am in that category now. I heard him say I was banned from the res. Then he took off after your Mum."
"He will not be banning you from anywhere," I raised an eyebrow. "Do you want to go back?"
Lottie thought for a moment. "I have caused all this now; I might as well see it through to the end. Promise me we won't fall out over it?" she looked up through her eyelashes.
"Of course not. I decided to come with you; this is on me just as much as it is you. Jacob should not be referring to you like that. What did Jasper say?"
"He asked if I wanted him to come out here, I said no, that we would be fine. He reminded me what I could do and to always phone if I needed him. I could hear Rose, I could hear her say she agreed with what Bella said before she left. At least they all don't hate me."
"They don't hate you."
Lottie made a face. "Oh I don't know. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea."
"We've committed to it now Lottie. Look the game is tomorrow, let's go and get checked in to the hotel and go for some New York food." My phone vibrated again, it was Jacob. I cancelled it and switched it off. Lottie's phone flashed up with Keith's name and she did the same.
"Yeah. I know I guilted you into it but I am glad you are here," she put her arm through mine as we tried to make our way towards the exit. JFK airport was packed.
Lottie had managed to book us a room in The Plaza on fifth avenue! I was surprised when she hailed a cab and gave the taxi driver the instruction. "Lottie!"
"What? The room available was all I could get at short notice."
I took in the sights and sounds as the taxi weaved through traffic, Lottie requested we travelled via the Brooklyn Bridge and although it was now dark, I could see the statue of liberty as we drove over. I was in awe of everything. The high buildings, the architecture of the tall buildings, old and new. We passed shops, cafes, restaurants, vendors and he took us through times square where all the billboards were lit up and in full view, the large screens showing advertisements of shows and products. It was too much to take in. We pulled up in front of the Plaza, a bell boy ran down the small set of steps, the flags waving in the wind as he opened the door. Lottie gave the taxi driver a wad of cash. "No change," she smiled.
The driver looked at the money, his mouth falling open, but he checked himself and quickly got out of the cab to retrieve our things. The bellboy took them from him and I took in the hotel. It was a grand building with windows upon windows. My feet were standing on faded black and white tiles reaching towards the building. The banisters up each side of the steps all polished to perfection. A group of bellboys were waiting and I could see they were in awe of us. I realised I was being perved on and I had to laugh. I turned round to look out onto Central Park but we would go there tomorrow to have a look around. I took in a deep breath through my nose and everything smelled different. It smelled of New York! Lottie followed the bellboy and I followed her into the building, large ornate columns adorned the front of the building, three doors; two revolving and one stationary as the bellboy took us through the stationary door. The lights were bright as we entered the Plaza, the colours in deep cream, red, gold. I couldn't pay attention to everything as there were signs indicating there were shops, spa, dining, the grand ballroom. I followed Lottie; I did want to stick close to her. "Hi, I have a reservation for two, Ms Willets," Lottie handed over her ID and credit card to the very immaculate older lady on the other side of the desk.
"Certainly Ma'am," she took the card with well polished nails.
Lottie turned towards me. "I have booked us in for some spa treatments if you fancy it. I booked us in to get our hair and makeup done tomorrow morning at eight am."
"You don't have to do that."
"Why not?" she shrugged. "I don't know about you but I don't get to come to New York very often. I have only ever been once and that was to collect Gemma from school. That was a mission in itself."
I smiled and the lady, her name was Eloise, cleared her throat. "Ms Willets, your room is ready. It is a two bedroom Plaza suite with a view onto Fifth Avenue, the room has an en-suite for both rooms and a twenty-four hour butler. Anything you need, you just let James know. Are you both hungry?" We both nodded. "It will not take you very long to settle in; the menus are at the dining area, there is a mini bar that is part of the room package so please help yourself. If you order as soon as possible as the wait is thirty minutes. James will get your dinner to you. I hope you both enjoy your stay. You are both booked into the Warren-Tricomi salon for your hair appointments and make up thereafter. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"What about seeing a show tomorrow night?" I suggested to Lottie.
"Oh that would be good. How would we sort that out?"
Eloise started to type furiously on her computer. "There are many shows with balcony seating that we have especially booked as part of our hotel. There is Wicked, Cinderella, The Lion King, The Jersey Boys, there are many others," she turned the screen to show us a selection. I could see Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and Mamma mia. "You choose Nessie."
"I quite fancy Cinderella," I smiled shyly.
"Two tickets?" Eloise asked.
Lottie nodded. "That would be great. What time does it start tomorrow night?"
"Seven pm, there will be a car to take you at six thirty," she smiled. "I will sort that out for you, James will have it all in hand; just ensure you are down at the lobby five minutes before."
We both nodded and Eloise handed Lottie two cards, our room keys, and James motioned for us to follow him as the bellboy followed us into a nearby elevator. "Remember what floor you are on," James smiled as he pressed the fourteenth floor button in the elevator, the doors closed and we smoothly travelled up to our room. The bell rang, the doors opened, James walked out and we filed out behind him into a long corridor with a rich looking gold and red carpet. The doors were numbered but quite a vast space between each one. James stopped at our room, which was numbered two, and he used his card to gain entry.
I had to take a breath at how nice this was, it wasn't a room, it was an apartment! We stepped into the cream decorated room which had long floor length green curtains at each window. The living room had a long antique looking sofa with two chairs on either side, facing a large TV fixed to the wall. Beyond that was a round dining table and chairs for four people and I could see the mini bar off into a partition on the right next to the dining table. James walked in and I could feel the bounce of thickness from the dark red carpet, the walls adorned paintings and along the corridor was a full mirror. He opened the first door on the right which was a bedroom and opened the bathroom across from it to show us. He walked further down to the master bedroom, opening it up to show us. "Thank you James. If you give us five minutes to sort things out we will have a look at the menu."
"Not a problem, I am in the office at the end of the corridor, all you need to do is press the green button on the telephone and I shall come to the room. I always knock first," he smiled. He was a man in his forties, plain to the eye but held himself with such elegance you could see he was proud to be in his position. "I am here for you up until ten pm and I hand over to Thomas; I will be back on in the morning. His uniform was that of red and gold with cream trousers; everything pressed to formation. The bellboy placed our suitcases onto the floor and Lottie handed him a tip. She offered a tip to James. "No thank you, I am part of the service," he smiled. "See you shortly." He left the room with the bellboy.
I looked around and Lottie wandered over to the master bedroom. "I am afraid Ness that I am having this room." I followed her in and the room was huge. Again, like the living but in softer tones. A TV facing the king size bed which was adorned with thick, huge pillows. There was an ornate chair off to the right with a dresser behind it. To my left led into the en suite bathroom, I opened the door and it was a bathtub that was up on claws. The whole place was so tidy and clean. I walked down to the other bedroom, which was smaller, without the chair and it also had a dresser, the bed also adorned with a ton of pillows; I felt I would get lost in! I would be using the bathroom opposite to the bedroom. I heard footsteps behind me and Lottie was waving a menu at me. "Let's get some food, I am starving," she passed me the Champagne menu.
After James finished clearing up our dishes and left, we both got changed and decided to switch our phones back on. I knew Lottie had kept the shield over both of us and it seemed effortless for her now. I knew it would need to come down when she went to sleep. Switching my phone on left me with a sense of dread. Once it roared to life it vibrated on and on and on. Lottie's doing the same. "You know what, I am sick of the tirade from Jacob," Lottie huffed, she showed me her phone and the messages she received from him were not pleasant. "He isn't the king of me, I'm afraid. I don't give a fuck what he thinks he can do to me when we get back."
"Just remember, don't hurt him."
"I wouldn't hurt him; he wants to murder me though."
"Maybe once he has seen his sister he will be a lot calmer."
"Maybe. Keith doesn't want to murder me, but boy is he mad."
I looked at my phone and the messages from Dad, Emmett and everyone else were now a lot calmer, but Lottie's were getting worse from Jacob. Although Dad did message to say he was disappointed, Mom spoke to him and he sent a message to Lottie saying he shouldn't have said those things. She received a lovely one from Esme, simply saying; I will always care, no matter what. Which I thought was nice. "Are you scared?"
"A little, I knew from the beginning it wasn't a good idea. I know that but I don't want everyone to up and leave me either," she chewed her lip.
"Are you worried about that?"
"I think Jacob will try to ban you from seeing me, I am worried that the others will not want anything to do with me."
"Jacob can try but it isn't going to happen. And you are right before, you do technically know too much and Keith would never leave you."
"But the imprinting thing works both ways, he will leave if I ask him but I would do the same if he asked me, almost like a compulsion. I can't explain it."
"I don't think anyone can really. Now I am going to bring something up that you are not going to like," Lottie eyed me carefully. "You are not good with abandonment, are you?"
Lottie shook her head. "Dad dying was out with my control. But Mum could have been there and yes she just left me to get on with it. Yeah, it scares me that Keith could leave, or want me to leave him along for some space. And you. Gemma and your family. I don't know what I'd do if it were all stripped away."
"We haven't made the situation any better though."
"No. I thought about it on the plane and I do feel really guilty, but I am not going to be ordered around, that's not me. I am not going to be dictated to either. I would have gone regardless. I know I dragged you with me and I am so glad you are here. It would be awfully lonely without my partner in crime," she leaned into me, resting her head on my shoulder. She was now feeling guilty, that she knee jerked to Keith's order and admission but she would never admit it to anyone else. But I also thought that my family would not want her to leave, they would keep her at a distance if need be for a while but never leave, but I don't think she would see it that way.
I felt the shield lift from my head and Lottie was asleep; I pried the phone from her hands, picking her up and carrying her to the bedroom. James had already turned down the sheets in both rooms so I tucked her in. She looked so young when she was sleeping, as if she hadn't been blighted with any thoughts.
I turned the light off and closed the door. I picked up my phone and sent Jacob a text; 'I'm ok, I know you are mad but stop being awful to Lottie. You have some explaining to do to. Go and see your sister and I will see you Sunday. I love you xxx'
The message was read straightaway and I could see he was typing back on his iphone. I'm allowed to be mad, I'm less mad at you but I am super mad at your friend, it is irresponsible and reckless and we have been going out of our minds. You are there now, go and do what you want. Stay safe. I will always love you but I'm still pissed.'
I noticed there was no 'x' at the end. I sighed, turning off my phone, climbing into bed.
