Babbit glanced warily over at Xeria as she selected her character for the video game. They were playing Dragonball Z: Super Butoden, and Xeria had won thirteen times in a row that day.
Once Babbit had lost again, she set the control pad down and turned to the pile of papers on the table, ignoring Xeria's gloating smirk.
"What are all these fanfics doing here?" Babbit asked, shuffling through pages and pages of fanfics while looking for the script for this match.
"Sore wa himitsu desu" Xeria chirped, but her expression had changed. She seemed uneasy about Babbit seeing the fanfics that were on the table.
"The Expanded but not yet Revised Story of Yami and Aya" She asked, reading the title of one of the fanfics and glancing over at Xeria.
"Hey! That's my fanfic!" Aries' voice came from the sky.
"Then why is it here?" Babbit asked with a raised eyebrow.
"..... I set them there so that you guys could read them and tell me what you think (even though this story doesn't exist yet)" Aries answered slowly.
"I wanna read it when it's done!" Arcanum's voice chimed.
"Okay!" Aries said proudly. "Anyways, let's get this match underway!"
"Hold it, hold it." Babbit said. "I've been stuck here in this desert with a Mazoku for over a year. Don't you think there's been enough?"
"Of course not, there are still millions of matches waiting to happen!" Aries replied. "But you're right. Since this is number 20, it deserves something special."
There was a long moment of silence as Sailor Aries tried to think of something special she could do for this match. A large, mysterious-looking box appeared beside the announcers table. It was wrapped in blue and pink polka-dotted wrapping paper, tied shut with a neon green ribbon.
"You two can open that after the match is done." Aries announced.
"What is it?" Arcanum asked.
"Sore wa himitsu desu" Aries said.
"Well said," Xeria nodded approvingly.
At that moment, people appeared in the stands. On one side, there were many people, most of whom were wearing high school uniforms. On the other side, the people were dressed in typical fantasy style clothing.
"Will the contestants please enter the ring?" Babbit spoke in to the microphone.
From one side, a high school boy with bright orange hair entered. He was wearing a black school uniform and glaring around the ring.
"I may not be able to beat that rat, but I can take anyone who comes out!" He declared.
From the other side, a creature that looked similar to a striped cat with a foot of hair emerging from his head entered the ring.
"You've got to be joking." Kyo said disappointedly.
Xeria and Babbit pulled out their question cards as they descended upon the arena.
"So, Vampire King Duzell" Xeria said conversationally as she approached the kywal (cat-like creature). "According to this, you're looking for the reincarnation of your long-time enemy, King Phelios."
"That's correct." He replied, looking up at her.
"What do you intend to do when you find him?" Xeria asked.
"I will drain his blood, tear his body limb from limb and laugh while his soul writhes, condemned for eternity to a lake of fire." He replied vengefully.
"How delightful" Xeria exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "Good luck."
Meanwhile, Babbit had reached the other contestant.
"Kyo Sohma. This says that you are cursed by the vengeful spirit of the zodiac cat, and that you have never been able to defeat your rival Yuki, the zodiac rat." Babbit read. "How do you think this match will help you come closer to defeating Yuki?"
"Because I'll beat this guy up so badly the Yuki will be afraid of me!" Kyo said, laughing evilly.
"Oh, there's a note on this card that says the match is to be equally matched, species-wise." Babbit observed. "What does that mean?"
"This!" Xeria appeared behind Babbit and shoved her on top of Kyo. There was a "POP!" noise and a lot of orange smoke. When the smoke cleared, they could see the Kyo had transformed in to an orange cat, sitting in a pile of clothing that he had been wearing before.
Babbit stood back up and glared at Xeria.
"It means that if one contestant is feline, the other must be too. And if one contestant is human, the other must be as well." Xeria smirked. "You did ask what it meant."
The two girls left the ring, going back to the announcer's table.
"Kyo Sohma vs. Vampire King Duzell, match start!" Xeria announced, ringing the bell.
Immediately, Kyo leapt through the air at Duzell. Duzell leapt to one side, allowing Kyo to miss as he turned around and launched an attack on the orange cat. Kyo took a grazing swipe from Duzell's claws as he jumped back, only to spring in to the air again and swipe at Duzell.
The match went on this way for a while, until there was another mysterious "POP!" noise and Kyo became a human again.
"EEEEEEEK!" Babbit and Xeria shrieked. "PUT YOUR CLOTHES BACK ON!"
Kyo immediately ran for the pile of black clothes that had been left on the edge of the arena as Duzell murmured a spell and turned in to a human as well.
After a 20 minute break to get clothed
Kyo launched another attack at Duzell, but even as a human, Duzell was still faster then him. Duzell simply dodged out of the way while Kyo's momentum carried him out of the ring.
"Kyo-kun" A girl climbed out of the stands and ran out to Kyo.
"AUGH! KAGURA!" He shrieked, and ran back in the ring to hide behind Duzell.
"Kyo-kun, why won't you..." Kagura said, a dark shadow coming over her face. "ACCEPT MY LOVE?!" She ripped a chunk of rock out of the arena and hurled it at Kyo.
"Illegal attack!" Xeria declared, appearing beside the rock, which had stopped moving and was not just hovering. "You, Kagura Sohma, are not one of the contestants and are therefore sent home for doing damage to our arena."
At that, Kagura promptly disappeared.
"Where did you send her?" Babbit asked, entering the ring.
"Somewhere near her universe." Xeria answered smugly.
"So even though Kyo lost the match, he will have peace of mind for a while in his own universe." Babbit summarized as the Fruits Basket characters disappeared.
"Congratulations to Duzell!" Xeria said gleefully. "I really hope you'll find the reincarnation of Phelios soon. Really!"
"Uh.... Thanks...." Duzell said slowly, and then the Vampire Game characters disappeared as well.
"Now, what's in this box?" Babbit asked musingly, approaching the box beside the announcers table.
"Let's find out!" Xeria grabbed the neon green ribbon and ripped it off the box. The bow disappeared, leaving in its place a brand new Sega Genesis and plenty of new video games.
"That's to keep you entertained for the next 20 matches." Aries said happily.
Therefore, Xeria and Babbit enjoyed their new toy.
