Chapter 17
Phone Call
After Hazel's and Sophie's mom came to pick them up the next day in the late afternoon Toby and I relaxed a bit and just hung out together. Things had been quite peaceful since school started. Toby and I watched some YouTube Videos on our T.V. The time was around six o-clock and we were watching CaptianSparklez do some stuff in Minecraft. That was when the phone rang.
Toby got up to go answer it. He stayed quiet for a few moments and then said "Let me ask her. I'll call you back." He hung up the phone and then walked over to me. "Ant that was Benny of the Fine Bros. They want you on Kids React." Toby said. My mouth dropped open. The Fine Bros where my second favorite YouTubers in the world and now there was a chance I could work with them. "I want you to think long and hard about this Ant. It could be for a long time. A lot of times when you turn 14 you get to go on Teen's react and then if you make a YouTube account you could go on YouTubers react."
I nod I knew what he meant. He was saying that if I did this that I may not have time for my friends as often. "I really want to do it Toby." I said. "I know you do Ant but just think about it for a while." Toby smiles. I smile as well and say "I will." That night I think a lot about what Toby told me and about how I may not get to spend as much time with my friends.
It was a hard choice but I wanted to do it. The next morning I wake up and lay in bed for a few moments. It was a Sunday. I get myself up and I get myself ready for the day. I heard Toby in the kitchen making breakfast. It smelled like bacon and eggs. I walked out to the kitchen and saw Toby cooking.
"Morning Ant." He said. "Morning." I said my voice still groggy from sleep. I get a glass and get myself some orange juice. I sip it and put the glass on the table. "I've been thinking Toby." I said my voice less groggy now. "I want to do it. I want to be on Kids React." Toby keeps cooking and doesn't say anything for a minute. "It's your choice Ant." Toby said. "I know." I said back.
"Okay" Toby said. "You can do it." I smile and hug him. "Thank you Toby. You're the best dad ever." At that he turns around and gives me a tight hug. "And you're the best daughter ever." He smiled and kissed me on the cheek. "I wish I had known you better." I said. "I mean before my parents died." Toby nods and says "Me to Ant." He then lets me go and turns around to tend to his now slightly overdone bacon.
After breakfast Toby calls Olga and she comes over. We tell her of the phone call we got and she congratulates us. Once she finds out that I will be doing it she hugs me. "That's great Ant. You'll do awesome." I hug her back. "Thanks Olga." Then the rest of the day was peaceful. We hung out with Olga and we seemed to the normal person who might have been looking on at our situation like a normal family.
A family. That thought is what keep me going at the orphanage. Having a family and now I had one. I knew it wouldn't be too long before I started calling Toby dad. That night I curled up under my covers thinking one thought "He is my dad. Toby Tuner is my new dad."
