Chapter 20

"It wasn't even that important! How the hell was I supposed to know that you'd want me to stop your meeting?" Tony followed an outraged Pepper through the hallways of the tower, trying to explain why he hadn't called to let her know what had been going on.

"Tony, I appreciate that you pretend to think my meetings are important, I really do, but yes I wanted you to call me!" Pepper snapped back, then noticed Natasha coming down the hall with a smirk from the loud arguing.

"These people are a bad influence on you," Pepper put a hand to her forehead.

"And I'm a bad influence on them, glad we figured that one out," Tony continued, "I still wouldn't have sent an unscheduled jet just to fly you back here a day early," Tony mumbled.

"What was that?" Pepper glared.

"Nothing, love you, bye," Tony flew around Natasha and back to the main room, where many intrigued eyes turned in his direction.

"Told you!" Clint sang happily, taking a gulp from the water in his hand.

"Don't speak," Tony warned, grabbing a beer. He put it back and exchanged it for a water when Pepper came marching in.

"No more don't tell Peppers, I am fully capable of knowing whatever it is that you people do here!" she then continued to slam her office's door and begin working on her bag full of digital paper work.

"If she comes out, run," Tony fled to his workshop where he began work on a new suit design that he had left on his holographic computer, along with the hulk buster armor, but seeing as that one had been finished, he would need to start something new.

He worked until the bright afternoon light sank into the horizon and became dark through the bullet proof windows.

Finally the suit began to look like it would when it was completed, and Tony took a moment to make sure it didn't look lopsided or anything, finding a rogue piece of metal gripping to the armor's left leg.

He grabbed his pliers and took it off, noticing that it wasn't any kind of metal he ever used for his suits. Confused, he researched the strange metal on the holographic computer using the scanners, but when he did, all that would come up is a No Results, try again later tab.

"Jarvis, run a search on all known metals, find this one," Tony instructed.

"Sir, this metal has never been documented on the internet or in any SHIELD databases," Jarvis told him.

"Has anyone been in the building besides us since we left to see Staine?" Tony questioned, eyeing the strange metal.

"No one sir," Jarvis informed.

"Whose been in the workshop?" Tony asked, grabbing the metal, and rubbing it between his fingers.

"Just you, Miss Romanoff, Agent Barton, Captain Rogers, Doctor Banner, and Thor," Jarvis told him, running through the list of all six avengers.

"Who left this here?" Tony inquired.

"No record of the metal ever entering the building," Jarvis' voice began to sound worried.

"No record..." Tony repeated, wondering how on earth somebody not only got into the tower, but they got in and let something that would have never been allowed in.

"Jarvis, tell Bruce to come down here," Tony said, then to make sure that Banner actually remembered to come, he added, "Say it's urgent or something," Tony waved his hand towards the door in exclamation.

"With pleasure, sir," Jarvis said, his voice disappearing as he no doubt informed Banner to come to the workshop immediately.

So, I was originally planning to end the story after twenty chapters, but seeing as I've had another idea as to continue this, the story will go on until somewhere around 30-40 chapters.

I hope that's okay with you guys, let me know if you dislike/like anything about the chapters so far, like, do you like the lengths? Should they be much longer? Much shorter? Let me know!
