Chapter 19:
RPOV
To say I was disappointed about how my date with Dimitri ended would be an understatement, I was beyond frustrated! Finally I convince him to go out with me and we had such an amazing time and I really wanted him to kiss me but Lissa just had to choose that precise moment to make her appearance.
Suddenly my cellphone made a buzz sound indicating I had an incoming call; since I couldn't see this was a special phone witch announced what was happening, so if I got a text it would read it out loud (of course, now I carried headphones everywhere because I was not very keen on letting everyone else hear my text messages.)
"Hello?"
"Hey Rose. It's Dimitri."
"Hi Comrade!"
"I was wondering if maybe you would like to go out tonight."
"Sure things, where to?"
"I would love to take you out dancing if you are up for it."
This was exactly why I loved to be with Dimitri, he didn't treat me like an invalid.
"Sure, I'll make Lissa cover for us…"
"If you don't mind Rose, I would like to pick you up from your home."
"What?!" – I must have heard wrong, Dimitri couldn't possibly want to pick me up where my PARENTS would surely see us.
"Why there?"
"Because I don't want to have to hide the fact that we like each other. I want to just go to your house and be able to see you without having you to lie to your parents about where you are and with whom."
"Are you sure you want that?"
"Yes Roza, but if you don't then I understand." I didn't miss the tone of disappointment in his voice; he surely thought that I was ashamed of telling my parents that we were seeing each other.
"No Dimitri it's not that I am ashamed of what we have or anything, it's just… well my parents are really overprotective, more so since I became blind and I don't want them to freak out and not allow me to see you anymore."
DPOV
What Rose was saying made a lot of sense, especially considering that her father knew me already; but I didn't want us dating to be a secret, something we had to hide from others.
"But you are right; I don't want us to have to be a secret." Rose said from the other end of the line. It was amazing how sometimes we appeared to be so in sync with each other that we knew what the other was thinking.
"It's a date then."-I smiled before hanging up.
Third person POV
After Lissa dropped Rose off at her house Rose prepared herself to convince her parents that dating Dimitri was not that big of a deal. Except that for her it was; the way she made her feel was something she had never felt before with anyone, not even Adrian and she was not going to let her parents stop them from dating if they so intended.
"Mom? Dad? You home yet?"
"in the kitchen Rose." Her mother's voice answered.
Making her way to the kitchen she greeted her mother but noticed that her father wasn't there.
"hey mom, where's dad?"
"oh, he had to leave the city within short notice for some business appointment."
"ohh." Rose said ; it wasn't really a surprise for Rose that her father had just gone off to another city because of business, he had always traveled a lot and Rose was used to having him miss important stuff at school and with her family. One good thing about her accident though was that he had promised to be more time with both her and her mother in the future; so far though he wasn't keeping his promise.
'At least this makes it easier to convince my mom about the idea of me and Dimitri' Rose thought.
"Umm mom, I'm going out today." Rose started uncertain about how to approach the subject.
"You are hanging out with Lissa? Why don't you just invite her over then? I could cook dinner..."
"Thanks mom but no, I'm not going t with Lissa, I-I have a date."
"a date? With a boy?" Janine quickly realized how absurd her question sounded and quickly said. "with whom?" she asked and Rose said in a single breath:
"I'mgoingoutonadatewithDimitri."
"Oh, as a friends 'going out' or as something else?
Her mother didn't seem mad or judgmental, just curious, which encouraged Rose to continue.
"um as two people that like each other going out. Mom he has being really good to me and I really like him and he is just amazing if you gave him a chance you would see that..."
"Okay."
"What?"
"I said it was okay that you went out with him Rose." As she saw Rose's puzzled face she continued: "I've realized that me and your father have been very protective of you but you are almost an adult and we need to let you do your own choices which doesn't mean we won't always try to show you the right way but in the end it's your life and you should be able to make your own decisions."
Not in a million years would Rose have thought she would hear that from her mother but there really was just one thing to say.
"Thank you mom."
Rose's mom smiled and told her:
"well what are you waiting for? Go get ready."
She went upstairs and got dressed, even though she wasn't able to see her clothes anymore her father had gotten her a device which thanks to some technological thing that Rose didn0t really understand was able to tell her the color of each piece of clothes as well as it's material. (saw this once on extreme makeover, pretty cool gadget actually). So thanks to it she was ready to go and dressed accordingly with a short sleeved white dress and brown leggings with ankle boots.
"Okay I'm ready," Rose said climbing down the stairs, it was getting easier for her to get around the ore time it passed.
Dimitri was sitting on the living room with Janine and after a few pleasantries they were off to their date.
Dimitri had wanted to go with Rose out dancing but he had never been into clubs much, for him they were too noisy and too crowded so they went to more reserved place where they could dance and would still be able to talk without having to scream to be heard over the music and besides he figured that this environment wouldn't overwhelm Rose.
After they picked out a table and settled down conversation flowed easily, it was amazing how the two of them had so much in common as to never run out of a topic of conversation, they felt at ease with each other.
RPOV
After dinner was over Dimitri asked me if I wanted to dance. There was a soft song playing on the background and Dimitri had told me that there was a dance space in the middle of the room so off we went.
Dimitri wrapped his arms around my waist and I put mine around his neck and we swayed to the music.
"thank you for this Dimitri."
"I0m glad you are having a good time.
I smiled to him and laid my face on his shoulder as we continued to move to the music.
After the slow song was over a faster song came up and the rhythm of merengue engulfed them.
"I love this song!" – I exclaimed as I started dancing to the beat of the music. In middle school we had had to do a Spanish project and I had been fascinated by Latin America music ever since.
Surprisingly Dimitri seemed to be familiar with the music albeit a little shy at dancing.
"Just loosen up Comrade." I said as we continued to dance together.
Suddenly I felt Dimitri stiffen and I Knew something was up.
"Um Comrade what's going on?" - I asked but a voice beat him to answer.
"Rose?"- and the odor of cloves hit me though less than last time.
"Adrian what are you doing here?"
"I came here to see you. Can I talk to you in private for a moment?"
"Adrian…"
"Please."
"Fine. Dimitri could you give us a minute please?"
"Sure." – even though his voice was calm I could feel how tense he was about leaving me alone with Adrian.
"Rose what are you doing with that guy?"
"That is not of your business."
"It is when my girlfriend is dating him,"
"Ex-girlfriend Adrian."
"Come on," - he said while graving my arm. – "I said I was sorry. What else do you want?"
"I want you to let go, Adrian we are over okay? I'm sorry but I don't feel that way about you anymore."
That's when I realized that the hold on my arm was becoming painful.
"Adrian let go of my arm. You're hurting me."
"No Rose you gotta listen to me." I grabbed his arm to make him let go of mine but his grasp was pretty hard.
"She said to let her go." - Came the sudden voice of Dimitri which I hadn't realized had come back.
"Look dude this is between me and her…"
"No, the minute you tried to hurt her it became my business now leave before I make you."
"Rose…"
"I want you to leave. I'm tired of this Adrian, I don't like you anymore that way and I hate this person you've become." – I hated to tell that to Adrian because before all this drama had happened he had been like my best friend, someone I could always count on; of course that was when he could stay sober and wasn't such a dick.
"You know what Rose? Fine, I won't bother you anymore." – I thought that he was going to leave then but apparently he wasn't finished.- "I was there. I was always there for you Rose, when you needed me I was there. And when two years ago you were at your worst.."
"Shut up." – I told him, not wanting to remember what he was taking about. I didn't need Dimitri o know.
"No, I won't, when you needed me I was with you and I can't believe after everything you would just forget about us so quickly."
"Adrian, leave. Now." – Dimitri said and if his voice tone was any indicator he was just about to punch Adrian if he didn't leave just this second.
"Fine, good luck then, I hope you are very happy." – and with that, Adrian left.
We left to the car in silence and it wasn't until he started the car did Dimitri asked what I already knew he would.
"Rose what was he taking about?"
"It doesn't matter." - I murmured really not wanting to tell him.
He must have realized that I wasn't about to open up about it so he stopped asking. For now at least.
I'm alive! Okay, so sorry for being MIA all this time, I'm a senior now and with college applications, homework papers and stuff my life has been horribly occupied. I hope that you are still reading this story, I know this chapter is not one of the best, but I really need it in order to get to the main plot of the story, and I will (and this time I really hope I can make good on it) update more frequently. I do tell you that I AM NOT abandoning the story. So I hope you don't either.
As always thanks for reading! Please leave a review, no flares, though I take constructive criticism I don't like people insulting mine or any stories, if you don't like it, don't read it.
