Crimson Lace
Chapter Twenty
A softy sigh passed through Lux's lips as she moved to sit on the couch in the living room of Jax's home. She was finally checked out of the hospital, away from the prying doctors and the questionable looks of the nurses. She knew what they were thinking, but didn't care any more. She was home, with her old man. Jax shut the door behind him as he carried her bags through the door and setting them down in the front entry way.
"You need anything, babe?" Jax asked as he walked towards her. Her eyes were already closed as she shook her head.
He knew she was exhausted. The meds the doctors have her on wipe her out almost instantly. Jax smirked towards her as he moved to press a soft kiss to her forehead.
"You should've moved to the bed," He spoke softly. Lux let out a soft groan, not moving an inch from the couch.
Jax shook his head before moving to pick her up, his arm under her knees and the other under her shoulders as she rested against him. Lux's hand rested lazily against his chest as he carried her back towards the bedroom, tucking her in before closing the bedroom door behind him. He sighed heavily as he walked around the house, cleaning up what he could.
Jax was too used to staying at Lux's he wasn't able to keep up with his own home. Just as he slightly straightened out the living room, a hard knock sounded from the front. Jax paused for a second and stood in the silence to make sure the knock didn't wake his love in the back. After a heartbeat he stepped towards the door and sighed when he saw Opie and Tig standing on the other side. The two walked towards the kitchen after stepping into the home.
"You find anything?" Jax sighed as he followed behind them.
"Still nothing. We've gone over the tape hundreds of times," Opie sighed "We've been over everything, who ever the fuck did this was smart and some how went unseen."
Jax growled before moving his hand through his hair, "This shit has gone on for too long."
"Been sniffing around and trying to see if a drifter or something made it into town," Tig sighed softly "Nothing. You talk to your girl yet?"
Jax shook his head "She's been doped up most the time, Doctors got her on some strong shit. I don't think she's gonna be able to give us much right now."
"We'll keep looking, Jax." Opie sighed softly "Just wanted to give you a heads up about what's going on,"
"I appreciate it," Jax turned towards Opie, "Can you ask Jade to stop by every once and a while to check on Lux? Whenever I'm not here?"
"Yeah, she's eager to see her. Been driving me up a wall with all her questions and prodding."
After a quick goodbye, Jax let the men out before locking the front door and heading towards the bedroom. He smiled as he saw Lux laying on her side and hugging tightly to his pillow. He stripped off his vest and kicked off his shoes before walking around to the other side of the bed and getting in beside her. It was like she already knew he was there. Almost instantly the pillow was let go, and she moved closer to Jax and held to him tightly as she slept. His arms wrapped around her frame and kissed the top of her head.
"I won't ever let any one touch you again," He whispered softly "I promise,"
"Jax if you don't stop hovering, I'm going to lose my fucking mind," Lux moaned from the kitchen table. Since the morning she woke, Jax has waited on her hand and foot, which normally she'd love, but now it was driving her crazy.
"Doctor said I had to keep a close eye on you, that's all that I'm doing baby"
"And then some. I love you, but please for the love of all that is mighty, give a girl some breathing room." She sighed softly and smiled towards him slightly.
Jax walked over and took the seat across from her and passed her her pain pills along with a fresh new mug of coffee. She smiled towards him before taking both the bottle and the coffee.
"Do I have to? I just woke up and I don't like how they make me feel. I don't wanna go back to sleep," She spoke softly "I will later. I'm not in too much pain."
Jax stared towards her "Babe, you have to. I'm not rushing you to that hospital again because you can't follow orders."
She pouts towards him, "Please I promise to take it easy."
Jax stared towards her for a while before sighing, nodding his head and caving. She smiled towards him and pushed the bottle away before taking a sip of her coffee. The couple sat in silence for a while, before Jax spoke softly.
"I, uh, I need to ask you a few things," Jax whispered
"Like?" Lux stared back towards him, his green eyes staring back towards him.
"What happened." He paused. Jax watched as her body went rigid and her eyes downcast towards her lap.
"All I remember is walking towards the car and feeling a pop at the base of my skull. Like someone smashed something against it." She picked at the bandages that were wrapped around her wrists and hand. "I was flipped onto my back but everything was fuzzy, my eyes couldn't concentrate on anything. I was conscious for a while before everything went black."
"You have any idea who did this?" Jax reached over and grabbed her hand to stop her from picking. "Something you didn't tell the cops?"
Lux hesitated for a moment. "The only person I have beef with is my old manager at the strip club I worked in last, back in St. Louis. I left with a duffle bag full of cash. It was mine, but he liked to think it was his. But I didn't have friends back then and was living out of my truck. There's no way he would've known I was here."
Jax nodded his head "What was his name."
"Micheal. Micheal Petwiha." Lux sighed softly "He's a Native that runs a strip joint, moving from Oklahoma after getting kicked off the reservation. If you're going to go and look for him, he shouldn't be too hard to find,"
AN: Sorry that it's so short and it's been so long. With school and work, not finding a lot of time to write. I'm on spring break so hopefully I can update again before I go back.
