"NEW ORDER"
"GARFUNKEL'S"
(Witch and Wizard: Chapters 60 to 65)
Byron
An N.O Citizens Patrol stopped us from crossing them when they were asking for our IDs, to know if we were on the wanted list (which the Allgoods were on). Good thing Whit uses his new skill, which is the ability move quickly and fastly. He knocked down their faces and temples until they fell unconsciously on the ground. They try to fight fair but he was too quick for them to handle. We then quickly escaped safely to the next town.
After walking for a few kilometers, Sasha leads us to another town, which is where his town stands upon on Freeland. We've finally reach our destination when we see another town far from the horizon. Sasha exclaims "That's that!"
We enter it and see again, another dystopian town but this time, there was less people living in it. Unlike the first two towns we went through, this was the most likely less N.O affected town. I don't how they did it since the occupation of the N.O is near it.
While walking a deserted driveway to their hiding place, we ask questions, I sit on Wisty's shoulder and I smell the bad odor of her curly hair.
"So can we step back in time to a day when Wisty actually takes a bath? Her hair is practically turning into dreadlocks." I complain.
"Get off me, you ingrate." She says as she picks me up and puts me on Feffer's back. "Feffer, you're a kinder soul than me. Meet your new best friend."
The dog barks and wags her tail in delight. She stops suddenly when we stop on front of a huge building that has bullet holes on it. A hanging fluorescent sign that says Garfunkel's
"Here we go! Home sweet rubble-strewn home! This is where a bunch of us are hanging. Kind of mingus, but we've fixed up pretty good." Sasha stops and points at the building.
As we walk to its entrance, he blocks me from entering, bends to his knees and whispers. "Welcome to Garfunkel's" he says with a thrilling and serious voice "home of the legendary Resistance."
"Resistance right here in Liberty Town?" I react suddenly "so this is where the Resistance was hiding…" Sasha stands up, leaves me behind and guides Whit and Wisty as they walk to the entrance.
When I was working in the Elimination Team, one of the greatest threats to the N.O is the Resistance. According to information the authorities and the N.O government gathered, the Resistance is a group of young rebel teens and adults, aging from a range of thirteen to sixty years old. They are hidden somewhere inside the territories of Freeland; specifically between Liberty Town and Southern Provinces. They say that these adults train themselves everyday to make them undefeatable and unstoppable as they fight against the authorities. Authorities say that they have all the basic needs, weapons, ammunition, communication and technology to support their rebel army.
Much information that the government know about the Resistance is kept hidden from the public for security purposes. That's why the media and the people spread rumors about it.
To my surprise as we enter the rotten department store, a lot of children greet us. I never expected to see them because this building should be filled with gruff and tough teens and adults. I leap out of Feffer and struggle out off the crowd. For minutes I run around to every room of the department store; up, down, left, inside and out, but I see no evidence of adults or training equipment or weaponry. I look to the food section and they are almost out of food. After I fail to search for any proof, I walk back to where I came from and think it over.
"I can't get this straight." I ask to myself. "The government said that they were a threat because of the adults, the training and weapons, but why do I see these kids? They may be younger than a ten year-old child! They can't even train in military or even hold heavy guns and bazookas!"
Then, I pass by Whit, having lovey-dovey with Celia Millet privately; having sweet conversations to each other. I like such scenes' especially in movies. To be honest, those two can be a couple but that won't last. He is human and she is a Half-Light; a ghost. Love has no limitations but it won't last forever.
After I passed the love birds, I mind sets back to reality. "But maybe this isn't the Resistance that the N.O was referring to." I reason out. "There might be the same rebel army that the authorities refer to, but with the same name; is that possible? Or maybe, my ears aren't working well when I hear that information. I might've heard 'adults' rather than 'children'. But why is the N.O after these innocent kids and why do they fear them."
As these questions are circulating around my mind, I meet Sasha, Wisty and Feffer on front of a girl, who is typing an eco laptop that is sitting on the table. Thick cable wires support the power of the laptop and the electricity they use is rotten perfume lemons because the smoke smells like it.
I found out that the brown hairy and curly girl was Janine, the week's leader of the Resistance. How did I know? A brass-colored manager sign sits at the other portion of the table and her name tag says Janine.
I listen and watch as the Wisty and Janine are on a tight conversation with each other.
"I guess we'll see for sure during tomorrow's night raid. We're breaking a bunch of kids out of the Overworld Prison." Janine says.
"Sorry, Janine" Wisty replies "We already told Sasha. We're going to look for our parents."
Janine quickly grabs Wisty's arm "You have to help us, Wisty." Janine begins plead. "This is the New Order Reformatory, the same place you were taken after you were kidnapped. In Freeland, we call it the Overworld Prison because it'[s an evil place. You know that kids' lives depend on it, don't you?"
"Look I've been there. I know how bad it is. But you have to understand what comes first for us. We've got to find our parents. Period." Wisty replies with a little pity on her.
Janine is still holding her arm. "You say you do, but you don't know how bad Overworld really is. You have no idea." She looks to Sasha and commands him. "Take them to see Michael Clancy."
We stand walk to Michael's room when Whit appears looking terrible than what I saw him earlier "Who's Michael Clancy?"
"No idea." Wisty raises her voice so she could be heard by Sasha, who is leading the way. "Somebody they want us to see about a prison break." She asks "Who is Michael Clancy?"
"He's right in here." He opens the door to a shadowy and dystopia room and only a mattress is found, lying across the floor.
We enter the room but Sasha stopped me from entering and whispers to me "We need to talk."
"I'm Michael," a soft voice calls from the shadow part of the room. "What do you want with me?"
'Tell them your story," Sasha says outside the door. "Sit down with Michael, and listen. You can sit there on his mattress. There's plenty of room."
"Hello, Michael," Wisty greets.
"Hey, Mike," Whit greets next.
I don't know how their conversation goes with Michael because Sasha enters the room and stops me from getting in. He looks right to left and vise versa, checking that no one is watching. He quickly changes into his serious mode. "Meet me later, at the Toy Section of the Department store. We need to talk."
He quietly and slowly closes the door, leaving me behind the door.
