First of all I was just like to say how SORRY I am for not updating this for forever and a year.

I am a terrible person and I don't deserve my lovely reviewers.

Also, I was trying to work out what the shipping name for this would be (that is GreedxRoss) and all I could think of was Gross which was not a thing so I just made it Mareed haha.

I don't remember if they ever actually meet in the anime or anything since its been ages since I've watched it, but there's nothing wrong with canon divergence anyway so yeah.

I don't own FMA.

This is dedicated to Echo717

I hope it was worth the wait!

Mareed Romance: Caffè Di Amore

"Hey there babe," Maria turned at the flirtatious greeting with an unimpressed expression already set firmly on her face; behind her was a man, leaning casually against the wall with an arrogant smile on his face; dark hair and tall, there was a strange tattoo on his hand, some kind of winged creature in a circle, around a formation of triangles.

Maria only gave it a moment's notice, "can I help you," she required, voice stiff. The man smiled, "well, you could tell me your name for starters, I'm Greed," Maria eyes the man warily; she had no intention of giving out her name to strangers, especially suspicious characters such as this one, "my name is Eleanor Wright," she told him. He raised an eyebrow and opened his mouth – presumably to say something else flirtatious – when she heard someone running towards them, "Maria!"

She turned towards the sound of her name being called instinctively, groaning slightly when she heard the man – Greed, what a strange name – chuckle behind her, "well, Miss Wright, is it a habit to give out false names to people?" Marie felt irritation arise inside of her, she was on a job! The only reason she was here was because both she and Denny had been sent to this café. Someone had been murdered nearby and it was suspected to be a victim of a recent serial killer. They had been sent to the café to see if anyone had seen anything, Maria certainly hadn't been looking to be hit on.

She shot the smirking man an annoyed look before walking away, choosing to simply not answer him, "Did you find anything out Sergeant Brosh?"

Maria didn't know why she returned to that café. She hadn't tried any of its food, nor had she been able to take the time to simply sit down and truly observe the place, she couldn't even remember the name of it. But a month later, she found herself walking through its doors, having recognised it. She noticed that it was called 'Café di Amore' and she wondered what it translated into.

She walked up to the counter, "hi there, what can I get you?" Maria at the girl's question, glancing up at the recipe list, "oh, uh," she hurriedly tried to pick out something that looked appealing when someone spoke behind her in a vaguely familiar voice, "I'd recommend the coffee this place was named after," the girl behind the counter glanced at Maria in question and the soldier hurriedly nodded, you could hardly go wrong with coffee, "well that'll be-" the girl was cut off as a hand slapped down on the counter. Maria turned to see the man she had met on her last visit standing there with a flirtatious smile on his face, "make that two darling, don't worry, I'll pay," Maria began to protest but he cut her off, "I insist."

Once the two received their cups they found a booth and sat down together; Maria uncomfortably looked out the window, not at all pleased with her current situation and wishing that she had simply not come to the café again in the first place.

"So Miss Wright," the man – his name was Greed, Maria remembered – began, the smile on his face never wavering, "didn't think I'd see you back here," Maria frowned at the mocking tone he used when he spoke her fake name. "May I get to know why you were here last time? It didn't look like you had come for pleasure," instantly Maria's internal alarm went off, "for work," she told him evasively, unwilling to depart any real information to the man. The serial killer that the military had been searching for hadn't been found yet, it was making everyone uneasy, that month he or she had killed another three people – a child and two women. There was no pattern to their victims, but it was easy to recognise their kills. They had a unique tendency to completely hack up the victim's body and simply leave the pieces hanging in an unrecognisable mess. Maria had witnessed one of the crime scenes and she didn't want to talk about it.

Unaware of her inner turmoil, Greed nodded thoughtfully, "so, you're part of the military, huh?" his smile widened, "I like a girl in uniform," that was when Maria snapped. She stood quickly, "I'm very sorry to leave so suddenly," she spoke stiffly, trying to hold back the resentment in her tone, he had no way of knowing of the murders, but the way he continued to flirt with her, despite how clearly unwanted it was, was simply too much, "thank you very much for the coffee," she turned to leave, ignoring Greed who was calling out to her, "hey! You didn't even drink any of it!" she didn't answer, "let's talk again sometime!" she clenched her fist but kept walking.

'Guys like that are so annoying!'

She returned to the café three weeks after, she told herself it was simply because she hadn't actually tried any of the café's meals or drinks (having stormed off last time before getting so much of a sip of her coffee) she walked in and looked around curiously before catching herself. Resolutely lining up and looking forward, not letting her eyes wander again.

"Hello, what can I get you~" Maria hesitated at the offer, having a flashback to her last visit, she could practically feel the man's presence behind her, 'I'd recommend the coffee that this place was named after' soft and seductive, the memory of those words had been ringing through her mind ever since that day. Pushing her thoughts back with a slight blush Maria blurted out quickly, "I'll take the Caffè di Amore," the girl smiled brightly and entered the order.

Once Maria had paid the girl gave her a knowing smile, "do you know what caffè di amore means miss?" she asked, a mischievous look twinkling in her eye. Maria frowned and shook her head slightly, the girl leaned in and told her, "well, caffè means coffee in another language, somewhat obvious I suppose," Maria nodded, that made sense, "and the 'di amore' bit?"

"Well that means 'of love'," Maria froze, "what?" another worker ran to the front and handed the girl Maria's order which she then pushed across the counter towards the brunette, "caffè di amore means the coffee of love and of course, the name of this place 'Café di Amore' means Café of Love," she grinned, "you know, you and that man from the other week made a really cute couple," that was when Maria recognised her, she had been the one to serve her during her last visit. She wanted to protest the girl's words, but realising that would make her seem even more suspicious she merely took her drink and thanked the worker, hurriedly finding a table to sit at.

She took a sip from the coffee and exclaimed softly at the surprisingly delicious taste, warmth spread through her quickly and she eagerly took another sip. As Maria sat enjoying her drink, she found her gaze wandering once more, looking to see if she could spot that man anywhere. He was annoying, flirtatious, nosy and greedy, not to mention he didn't know how to take no for an answer, but despite all of that, he had been on Maria's mind for a while now, she hadn't been able to get him out of her head.

She still wasn't entirely sure how she felt about that.

She finished the rest of her drink in silence and solitude, when she finished she stood, putting her cup in the bin and casting a quick, final glance around the room. She ignored the disappointment as she realised she wouldn't be seeing him today.

Shaking all thoughts from her head Maria tightened her grip on her bag; they still hadn't managed to catch that serial killer. It was becoming quite a problem to be honest.

She didn't have time for a guy like that. Not right now.

She left the café quickly.

Maria returned only three days after.

Greed wasn't there.

Maria returned to Caffè Di Amore one more time; it was nearly six months after her last visit, only a week after they had finally caught the serial killer. Or rather, killers. It turned out there had been two people at work, brothers. It certainly explained how the serial killer had managed to kill two people at almost the same time, in completely different places.

Maria ordered her drink and sat down at a table to drink it, she didn't even bother to pretend she wasn't looking out for Greed. Seeing that he wasn't around she wondered why she hadn't been able to catch him, chalking it up to bad luck she took another sip of her coffee. She drank as slowly as she could, having made a decision before returning to the store. She wanted to give him as much time to come as possible, at the very least, she had been wanting to apologise for how hostile she had acted towards him, she supposed it was due to stress because of the killings, but that didn't excuse her attitude.

In the end, Greed still didn't come.

Maria had finished her drink, there was no longer any reason to stay; with a sigh she stood and left the store.

She wouldn't be coming back again.

Whoever that man had been, whatever his story had been… it seemed like she would never find out. She tightened her grip on her bag, 'well, I doubt he would have ever let me find out anyway, I'm pretty sure he had only been randomly flirting'.

Greed was bored.

He had been captured by Envy some time ago and sealed in some place he didn't know, unable to get out, Greed had found himself with nothing to do. His idle mind wandered and he remembered the young woman he had met at a certain café. She had been rather good-looking, but seemed honest and hardworking, Greed had rather liked her. He remembered how she stormed away in their last conversation, how he had called after her and he sighed, leaning back with a small smile, "sorry Miss Wright," he whispered softly.

"Guess we won't be talking again."

Haha wow this was bad.

I started writing it, stopped, then came back a week later to finish and I completely forgot where I was originally going with the darned thing.

Anyway, yeah, I was going to say something else but I don't remember.

Also, I'm uploading all of the requests now as an apology for the long wait.
