On to the story.
Sakura's POV
I force myself to focus on only work until I am faced with lunch and my own thoughts. Even then I didn't eat as I pondered over the reality of this situation and then some. I could quit without a second thought but with Aya having just made friends and settling in fully into life how could I just do that? It'd be no different than accepting the offer, with the exception that one provides income and the other means hunting for jobs and even worse? Both mean Sasuke will freak.
I toss my uneaten food and pause as I spot Konan and Ayato in the window of the ice cream shop. Ayato has the most serene expression as he picks his favorite and waits, how will he react to having to up and leave? Gah! I thump my head against the glass and sigh as I look back to Ayato to find him staring at me "Mama!"
He runs outside and hugs me "What brings you here?" I smile and kneel to hug him "I was on my lunch break and I spotted you and wanted to say hi." He looks me in the eyes "You don't look so good. Is something wrong?" I run my hand through his hair and look him over before weighing my options. I sigh and hold his hands "What would you think if I told you we were . . . moving?"
He tilts his head and makes a face the grins "We're moving in with Sasuke! Right? Am I right?" cold pain shoots through my heart as I shake my head and try calming him down. "That's not it but, I-well actuall-" Konan hurries outside "I swear I never let him run off like this, but I saw you and I thought it'd be okay." I stand up and shake my head "I know what you mean. He likes running of when he sees Sasuke or Naruto." She offers him his ice cream and he thanks her. He makes his way between us as we converse "Is it lunch time for you?" I nod a check the time "I actually am now late for work." I laugh and sigh "I better go. Aya be good for me okay?"
He nods and puckers his ice cream coated lips at me so I kiss him and wave goodbye to them when Aya stops me again "Mama! What about moving?" I look at him and for a moment and I fight for an answer "I'll tell you when I get home." He accepts this answer and takes Konan's hand as they leave. I watch as they get into her car before I back track to the office.
I make my way inside of the building and toward the elevator with a few other workers.
I let my mind wander while we wait for it to descend and I start to think about the bills on the counter and the lists of schools with their tuition costs. I hear a ding and realize the elevator doors close and am the only person standing there. I press the button and this time focus on the numbers till the doors open and I board it.
I wander into the new secretary area on our floor and take a seat at my desk. I feel the girl's eyeing me as I clock in and stare blankly at the screen riddled with documents I need to go through. I open my cellphone and open the app for my bank account and check out the balances as I calculate off on scratch paper what I have to keep us a flat till I find a new job.
I sigh defeated as I run my hand through my hair. 'Though November is ending which gives me about 5 months till the new school year starts and Kindergarten isn't mandatory so I can hold off till he has to go to 1st grade and honestly it isn't like he really needs it since he's already being tutored by Konan. The phone rings and I pick it up. "You've reached the Uchiha corporation, this is Sakura speaking, how may I help you?" "How's the decision process going?" Madara asks and I tense up. "No need to be tense I was just making sure you didn't run away." I grit my teeth. "Sorry to be frank Sir but, I highly doubt an Uchiha can make me run away based on a threat alone, just ask Sasuke and Mikoto." I glance at the girls who were dutifully working in on and minding there own business though Itachi mustn't be in since that one desk is empty.
"Did you send Itachi away as well?" I ask and the elder chuckles "Lucky coincidence." I look at the paper on my desk "If I accept the transfer what will the job entail?" He's amused, I can just feel it. "The company out there has a man in my position who greatly needs the help of one such as yourself, Slayer of the Secretary Slayer." I lower my head "How long would I be out there?" He makes a 'hmm' sound and that irritates me. "To be decided." I knew it and boy was getting on my last nerve. "Indefinitely is the word I believe you're avoiding." His hearty chuckle did nothing for the mood I was falling into. "You are the clever one Miss Haruno."
I stand up and exhale "I'm coming up." I hang up and walk past the other two and an elevator opens up and Naruto and Suigetsu exit. "Hey Pinky." "Hi Sakura!" I turn and hit the necessary button and nod to them both.
Hinata's POV
I watch Sakura hang up the phone and head to the elevator. Karin and I exchange a look once again at the shared thought of concern for her. "What do you think happened in the meeting she had?" Karin asks and I shrug. "My guess is a good as yours but, she's been out of it since then." We both look at the men walking in with confused faces. "What's up with her?" They ask in unison before pointing at one another "Jinx!" "Double Jinx!" "Triple Jinx!" Karin clears her throat and they go silent. "All I know is she was called in by the big boss this morning and hasn't been the same since."
I nod in agreement as they both look upward and frown. "There isn't much we can do about it but, despite my worry we have work to do." I grab some files and hold them out to my beloved fiancé. I still can't believe that I am going to be marrying this man. "You need to go over these and you have three calls to make." Naruto takes the files and smiles at me "Thank you my love." and like that I am as red as Karin's hair.
I give one last look at Sakura's desk before returning to my own work. Can't pay for a wedding with no money.
Sakura's POV
The cold leather beneath me doesn't faze me like it normally would, perhaps it's cause I feel cold all the way down to my core. We remain in silence just watching the other with that soft tick of the clock resonating around us. He leans forward and straightens his name plate before resting his forearms on his desk. "Have you come to a decision?" I roll my shoulders and nod. "Yes, I have." He smirks and leans back. "So when will you be ready to leave?" I flick imaginary lint off my skirt as I cross my legs and rest my hands on my knee.
"I'll need till the end of this week." he frowns. "I can't permit a week." I frown this time around. "How long can you permit?" He makes that "Hmm" again "Till the end of the work day. I need you to understand I'm running a business and we're very busy." I sigh as I look toward the large tinted windows. "I can pull an all nighter if I must but, I have a son at home, so, I guess I'll have to do double time." He raises a brow. "To do what?" my half lidded gaze falls back on him. "When will my replacement be here?" He holds up a file. "Tomorrow. I hand picked her myself."
I nod and stand. "Then I'll be out of your hair by the end of the day. I look at my watch "I've got four and a half hours." I head to the door and open it. "I'm so glad we can see eye to eye on this little situation." His words like a gun at the back of my head. "Indeed." I say in my own gun to the chest way as I exit and take the steps the three flights down to my own desk with a flashing phone on my desk.
I enter Sasuke's Office and find the files I need in the cabinets then I hop on his computer and sign on, he gave me his password in case of emergencies. I open docs and transfer files to an usb he had in his desk and with ease I close everything out and shut down the computer and exit the office with all the information in hand. I drop it on my desk and take my seat. I pick up the phone and hop right on with my mission.
"Thank you for you're continued support and have an amazing day." I hang up the phone and pencil in the appointment and turn to the computer to access the docs before me. All the projects currently underway and yet to be approved lay before me and I pencil in more days on the schedule I am to type and send to Sasuke by the end of the day.
Sasuke . . . . I should tell him. I have to. If I do hell just get back on the plan and come back. I'll tell him when he gets back to avoid him raising hell on a business trip.
I print some of the docs and erase the ones on the usb and quickly return the usb to his desk. I place the printed docs into manila envelops and put them in my bag as I work on the physical files in front of me. "Would you like something to drink?" Hinata asks starling me and I smile "Oh yes, please." she smiles and goes to the small break room. I look at the time and bite my lip. A hour to go.
I thank Hinata for the coffee and get back to putting things in order for Sasuke. I place meetings, reminders to call people, and schedule time for lunches with the guys. I find my coffee bitter and comforting as I hurry to complete these things and have time left over to find a box to put my things in. I watch Hinata and Naruto leave for the night 20 minutes before Karin and Suigetsu and both times we exchange goodbyes. I wait till they're gone completely as I get a box and start packing up my desk.
Tired yet accomplished I clock out and give one final look around the office and it was like a cheesy movie scene as I remember everything that happened here.
The awkward elevator ride with the very man I am now dating, the office meet and greet with Itachi and Madara. I really hated Sasuke and his grumpy disapproval in the beginning but, I'll keep it as a fond memory of this place. I'll cherish all the memories made within the time I worked here. I really did enjoy the ride on the office Monkey train.
Shaking my head I walk to Sasuke's office door and press my palm against it, "Don't be to hard on the new girl." I exhale and step back. The sound of the elevator opening draws my attention and I walk to my desk and wait. Madara rounds the corner and stares down at me "Ready?" I nod and grab something off my desk and press it against his chest "It was nice knowing you." I grab my bag and the box and walk past him. "What's this?" I ignore him and enter the elevator hitting the first button. "Miss Haruno?!" I look back over my shoulder and smile at him as he just gets to the elevators closing doors.
"My resignation letter."
The doors close and I feel the adrenaline rushing through me like a fire. I feel the knot in my stomach release and I lean against the wall. "I can't believe I just quit." my whole body is racked in shutters and I have to do breathing exercises till it stops. The elevator stops and I stand up straight, head held high, and I walk out and through those door for the last time.
A.N.: It's late over here and I am tired with work weighing over me in about 7 hours I shall try to get some Zzzzz before reality drags me back into its claws. As always feel free to give your opinion if you do so wish. Goodnight and rock on! Till the sun disappears and the moon returns my Goblins and Ghouls.
