Chapter 19: Misplaced
PRINCE-TROY RESIDENCE, SANTA MONICA CALIFORNIA
November 5. 15:00 EDT.
Frankie was in her room doing her english assignment when there was a knock on her door.
"Come in!" Frankie said. The door opened and her mother entered. "Hi mom!" she greeted cheerfully.
Donna smiled at her daughter, "Hello, Frankie! Doing homework?" she asked.
Frankie nodded, "Yup! I was studying for the math exam earlier but now I'm doing my english assignment."
"How is the studying going?"
"It's going well actually. Robin's tutoring sessions have made it easier to understand math."
Donna raised her eyebrows slightly, "That's good to hear. That boy must be very good at tutoring. Are you two close?"
Frankie could feel her cheeks heat up and she thanked the Gods that she wasn't blushing. "W-we've known each other since we were nine. So yes, we're close friends, why?"
Donna crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned against the wall and shrugged, "I'm just curious because of the way he looks at you when you're not noticing." she said with a small yet knowing smile.
Frankie blushed, "I-I-I had no idea. I only see Robin as a childhood friend and a team member, that's all! I swear!"
Donna laughed, "Relax Frankie, I was just playing with you." Frankie playfully glared at her, "Speaking of the team members, have you been to the cave lately?"
"No not really, I have been busy with psychic training with J'onn, swim practice and school-"
"I think you should visit your friends Frankie, It would be good for you to get out of the house and socialize with people."
"Mom-"
"Please Francesca, I understand that after what happened it can be hard to face them again but trust me If they truly are your friends then they'll forgive you and move on."
Frankie looked down and hesitated for a while before she looked into her mother's blue eyes and nodded, "Ok mom, I'll go." Donna smiled at the her daughter before she walked out, leaving Frankie to change clothes.
MOUNT JUSTICE
November 5. 19:45 EDT
Frankie looked through a box with food as M'gann brought out equipment and groceries from the bioship. "I'm glad to see you back here, old friend." Kaldur said as he and Robin approached her. Frankie looked up quickly, her bangs falling in front of her face.
"We sure have missed you around here." Robin said, grinning.
She smiled before she re-adjusted her bun, "I've missed you guys too. It's nice to get out of the house. My mom convinced me to visit you guys."
The three of them opened a crate, "How's swim practice? Elliot told us that the finals are soon." Robin said.
"It's tough, not as tough as psychic training with J'onn but I'll manage. Hopefully I get better score than last time." Frankie said.
"Hey, third place is not bad at all!" Robin said.
"Yes, you are being too hard on yourself." Kaldur said in agreement.
"Yeah, you're right. I'll do better next time." Frankie said with a small smile.
"I hope the training with J'onn goes well." Kaldur said.
"Oh yeah it does. I've almost regained full control of my powers. I should be back soon enough."
Frankie glanced over at Troia who was talking to Batman and Zatara before she looked over to Zatanna, who was talking to Elliot and Artemis. "Glad to see Zatanna here. I hope she'll join the team soon, we need more girls in this sea of hormones." she joked.
Robin raised an eyebrow and smirked and Kaldur looked at her in amusement.
"I hope that Zatara will allow Zatanna join the team." Kaldur said. Suddenly all the adults in the room disappeared before their very eyes.
"Dad!" Zatanna shouted.
"Troia!" Frankie shouted.
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA
November 5. 20:30 EDT.
Wonder Girl flew over the city, looking for children. She heard someone sob, she looked down and saw little girl, sitting on a bench, crying her eyes out. Wonder Girl landed in front of her and approached the little girl.
"Hey sweetie, please don't cry." Wonder Girl said softly. The little girl looked up and sniffed, she looked about seven years old. The girl had red hair, blue eyes and was wearing a green hoodie and a black skirt. "What's your name?" Wonder Girl asked.
"My name is Elena." The little girl said, "Do you know where my mommy is?"
Wonder Girl shook her head, "No, I'm sorry but If you come with me then I promise that your mommy will come by soon, ok?" Elenal wiped her tears and nodded. Wonder Girl picked her up and flew not high of the ground and flew towards the Santa Monica High school, picking up two more kids on the way.
Once she arrived at the High school she handed over the kids to the oldest ones. "They were the last ones." She said. The teenagers thanked her before she headed out.
She was about to fly away when someone called her, Wonder Girl turned around and saw Elena, she walked over to her and crouched down to her level.
"Will I see you again soon?" Elena asked, her big blue eyes were shining with hope and admiration.
Wonder Girl smiled and ruffled her hair, "One day Elena, I promise." Elena gave her a gleeful look before she ran back into the building, making Wonder Girl giggle.
"Wonder Girl, come in?" Aqualad's voice came over the com.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"We need you to return to the Cave. Zatanna is ready to try the locator spell. "
"Acknowledged. I'm on my way." Wonder Girl flew to the nearest Zeta Tube.

November 5. 23:00 EDT
Recognized Wonder Girl, B02
Wonder Girl walked into the Cave where the rest of the team was waiting for her, she stood next to Superboy and saw Black Eagle trying his best to encourage Zatanna.
Zatanna looked unsure of herself, "Zatanna." Wonder Girl spoke up, Zatanna and the rest of the team looked at her. "You have to be calm, stay focusedand most importantly concentrate. We know that you can do it." she said reassuringly.
Zatanna nodded before she walked up to the holo-map and casted the spell. A red dot appears on the globe. "Coordinates locked. Roanoke Island. You did it." Robin said.
Black Eagle hugged Zatanna, "We knew you could do it." He said.
"T-thanks." She stuttered and blushed. Wonder Girl couldn't help but to smile slightly at the two.
Suddenly they heard lightning and they saw a boy who looked about 10, he had black hair, blue eyes and was wearing a red hoodie. "It worked!" He shouted.
The boy turned around to face them and the team walk over to him. "Where did you come from? Who are you?" Aqualad asked.
"Quick! Read my mind!" The boy told Miss Martian. Her eyes glow green for a moment, "He's Captain Marvel!" She exclaimed.
Wonder Girl looked at the martian weirdly before she also read his mind, she gasped. "Miss Martian is right, it is him!" she said in shock.
"Yeah right, and I'm Speedy Gonzales. Look, just because he thinks he's Cap-"
"Gee, Wally. Do I really have to bring you nachos and pineapple juice to get on your good side?" The boy asked.
Black Eagle snorted, "Oh. It's him alright."
Captain Marvel explained everything to them, that there are two dimensions, one for kids and one for adults. Slight relief came over Wonder Girl when she heard that, she was extremely worried that she would never see her aunt or mother again. Captain Marvel travels between the dimensions and the team were able to team up with the adults and form a plan to stop whoever is behind this.
Robin, Black Eagle and Artemis were the first to attack Klarion. Robin threw birdarangs, Black Eagle threw ninja stars and Artemis shot arrows but Klarion blocked the weapons with a shield.
"That's the best you can do?" He asked. He sent a blast at them and they flew back.
Then Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl and Superboy charged at Klarion from different angles but Klarion blocked attacks with a bigger shield which sent them back.
Zatanna casted a spell but Klarion blocked it, "Baby magic." He said before he scoffed. He said a spell which sent Zatanna flying. Superboy saw her, ran and caught her.
Wonder Girl flew towards the witch boy and punched the shield with all her strength, "Stupid Amazon brat." He said before he shot lightning at her but she blocked with her bracelets.
"Is that all you got Witch Boy?" Wonder Girl taunted. "Man, you're pathetic!"
Klarion glared at the Amazon before he sent her flying backwards and she crashed into a tree and landed next to Zatanna. Wonder Girl sat up with a groan and Zatanna helped her up, she gave the magician a thankful smile.
Wonder Girl saw Klarion's freaky familiar, she took out her dagger from her boot and aimed at the cat before she threw it but the cat dodged it, making Wonder Girl growl in frustration.
"Ah, so you have teamed up with the grown ups? Teamwork is so overrated." Klarion said. He shoots electricity at them, Wonder Girl stood in front of Zatanna and blocked the electricity with her bracelets.
She saw it hit Artemis and Robin, making them gasp. Zatanna and Wonder Girl ran to their side. "Artemis, Robin." Zatanna said.
Wonder Girl checked on them for a moment before she spoke up, "They will be alright."
Zatanna nodded before she casted a spell, "Temleh fo etaf wohs flesruoy." and the helmet of Fate appeared behind them.
Suddenly Black Eagle crashed into a tree and got knocked out. "Elliot." Zatanna whispered.
"I'll handle this, Zatanna. He needs you, go!" Wonder Girl commanded.
Zatanna looked at her for a moment before she stood up and ran over to Black Eagle. Wonder Girl turned around and saw the Helmet of Fate with a doubtful look on her face. She looked at the unconscious Robin and Artemis.
Wonder Girl kissed Robin's cheek "I'm sorry." She whispered before she stood up and walked over to the Helmet.
"It's the g-"
"Don't shout Billy. I've linked you telepatchically to the others." Miss Martian told him.
"That's so cool- I mean. It's the gem! At the center of the pentagram. Destroy it and we win!" Billy toldthem.
"That's all I needed to know." Wonder Girl said and picked the helmet up.
"Wonder Girl!" Aqualad shouted.
"Stop!" Kid Flash shouted.
Wonder Girl hesitated, she knew the consequences but she had to do it, "May the Gods help us!" she said before she put on the helmet. Once she put on the helmet, her eyes went wide and she was transported somewhere else.
"Where am I?" Wonder Girl asked.
"You're in the Helmet of Fate, Francesca." A voice said.
Wonder Girl turned around and saw Kent Nelson. "Kent Nelson." she said.
"You have just made a huge mistake, my dear." He told her.
Frankie shook her head, "No, it's not a mistake. I'm fully aware of the consequences." she said.
"The Amazon speaks the truth, Kent. This girl does not possess any magical abilities, she has the mind and body fit for it. She will make an ideal host" Nabu said.
"She's only a child, Nabu." Kent argued.
"Yes, a powerful child with the beliefs in the mystical arts and great strength. Nabu said.
Wonder Girl knew what she had to do, "Great Nabu, Lord of Fate. I'd be honored to be your host, please, do what you must. I give myself up to you, to protect the others." Wonder Girl said.
"Yes, child. The true battle begins and Fate will strive." Nabu spoke up. Wonder Girl looked at Kent Nelson before she watched the battle unfold.
Aqualad and Kid Flash watched in pure horror as Wonder Girl became Dr. Fate.
"Klarion!" Nabu said, bits of Wonder Girl's voice could be heard.
"This ends now."
"Billy, tell Zatara and Troia." Miss Martian said.
He nodded, "SHAZAM!" He shouted. Dr. Fate engages in battle with Klarion.
"Wonder Girl did what?!" Troia exclaimed in horror. "Francesca, what have you done." She thought.
"But, she has no mystical powers! Go back, right now! Get the helmet off! And-" Zatara said.
"No, the sooner we end this, the sooner we can help Wonder Girl. Keep the bad guys distracted, I have an idea." Captain Marvel told them.
Klarion throws energy balls at Dr. Fate, but she dodges and aimed an energy beam at Klarion's shield. , Miss Martian and Aqualad all attack the shield. disappears for a moment, showing Wonder Girl, before going back to .
"Ha! There, you see!" Klarion said. becomes Wonder Girl again before going back.
"With the two worlds divided, the helmet splits you! You're not all here,Nabu! And you're losing hold on that poor, soon to be dead girl! She gave herself up for nothing!" Klarion said with a laugh.
"No Witch Boy, Fate decrees her sacrifice will not be in vain." Dr Fate said, throwing a energy ball at Klarion's shield.
The shield breaks and put Klarion in a ankh symbol. "Now Kid!" Aqualad commanded.
Kid Flash flashes by and grabs the gem and throws it up, "Doc, catch!" He shouted.
Captain Marvel came from the ground and threw the gem up to Zatara. "Zatara, catch!" He shouted.
Zatara and Dr. Fate said the spell and the worlds became one.
The adult sorcerers collapsed on the ground, "They sure don't make evil immortal sorcerers like they used to. Oh well." Klarion said, he snapped his fingers and the ankh symbol disappeared.
He stood up and dusted the dirt off his arms. "Fun how it lasted. Teekle." He called out. His saber tooth cat shrinks into her house cat form and they disappeared.
"Aren't you gonna stop him?" Kid Flash asked.
"To what end? Klarion is chaos personified. He cannot be contained." Dr. Fate replied.
"Did we win?" Robin asked.
"At a cost." Aqualad replied bitterly.
Robin's eyes went wide in horror when he saw Wonder Girl as , "No." He whispered. Dr. Fate however gave him a cold stare, as she did to everyone else.
"Fate!" Zatara shouted. Dr. Fate's cold expression still remained. "Great Nabu," Zatara corrected. "Release the girl." He pleaded.
After a moment of silence, "No." said. The team and the leaguers were shocked. " Witness the havoc rotten these hours. The world needs Dr. Fate and the Amazon gave herself up willingly and though this girl has no mystical powers, she is powerful and possesses great strength. Fate will lead her to greatness in the mystical arts and her beliefs in the mystical arts only strengths her as a host makes her the perfect candidate."
"You can't do that!" Black Eagle and Zatanna shouted.
"She's my niece!" Troia shouted.
"Let her go!" Superboy shouted.
"She has her own life to live!" Robin shouted.
"Kent would never allow you-"
"Kent Nelson did object. So I released his spirit to the after life. He is gone." Dr. Fate said. Kid Flash's eyes went wide.
"Take me instead." Zatara said.
"Dad?" Zatanna asked. But he ignored her.
"I do have mystical abilities, and they are at their peak. Although my body is not physically stronger than hers, my body is better to handle the restrain of your powers." Zatara said.
"All true. But if I remove the helmet, what guarantee I, you will dawn it?" Fate asked.
"My word." Zatara said.
Dr. Fate flies down and she takes off the helmet, revealing Wonder Girl.
She opened her eyes and saw the team, Batman, Troia, Captain Marvel and Zatara.
"Wonder Girl!" Troia said.
"Troia!" Wonder Girl said before she ran into her arms. The Amazons let go of each other as Zatara walked up to them, that's when she realized what was going to happen and her eyes were filled with unshed tears as she stared wide eyed at Zatara.
"I-I'm so sorry." Wonder Girl whispered.
Zatara placed a hand on her shoulder, "You did what was right. Now, I must do the same." He said as she handed over the helmet. Wonder Girl started to sob as Zatara walked over to Zatanna and hugged her.
"Remember I love you." He told her and kissed her forehead, he turned to the others. "Take care of my girl."
"You have my word." Batman and Troia said simultaneously.
"No, dad! It's my fault! I made the helmet appear! Dad!" Zatanna begged, as Zatara put on the helmet and became Dr. Fate.
"Leave this to fate." Nabu said and he took sorcerers away. Zatanna falls to her knees, Artemis, Kid Flash and Black Eagle kneeled beside her. Zatanna looked shocked and sad. Wonder Girl felt horrible and guilty as she cried silently in Troia's arms when she heard Zatanna cry in Black Eagle's arms.
MOUNT JUSTICE
November 6. 03:00 EDT.
When the team arrived back at the Cave. Wonder Woman, Black Canary and Martian Manhunter were waiting in the mission room. Miss Martian, Wonder Girl and Black Eagle ran to the mission room and hugged their mentors.
After the reunion with her aunt and being lectured by her aunt and mother of what she did. Wonder Girl went to the locker rooms to change into her civilian clothes. Once she was done and was about to walk out when she saw Zatanna sitting on the floor and stared at the wall sadly. The guilt came back to Frankie before she walked up to Zatanna and sat next to her.
"I'm so sorry. I feel horrible for what had happened, this is all my fault. " Frankie whispered. Zatanna looked at her with red puffy eyes.
"It wasn't your fault, Frankie." she said. "It was mine, if I didn't made the helmet appear, none of this would've happened."
Frankie hugged her, "If I hadn't put on the helmet then none of this would've happened."
"Like I said it's my fault not yours, ok?" Zatanna said.
The two were quiet for a while before Frankie spoke up, "What are you gonna do now?"
"I don't know. Batman offered a place in his home but I declined."
"Stay with me then" Frankie said.
"Frankie, I can't do that. I would be a burden for you and your mom."
"No, you wouldn't! Firstly I live with my aunt and not my mother." Zatanna looked at her in confusion. "I'll explain later. Secondly, this is the least I could do after what I have done. We have two more rooms, one next to mine.
Thirdly, I can talk to Wonder Woman and Batman right now, if you come with me. What do you say?" Frankie said as she stood up and held up her hand for Zatanna to take. Zatanna stared at Frankie's hand for a moment before she grabbed it and Frankie pulled her up and the girls ran to the mission room.
PRINCE-TROY RESIDENCE, SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA
November 7. 9:15 EDT.
Frankie and Artemis placed last of Zatanna's boxes on the floor in her new room. "If you need anything, don't be hesitant to ask us." Frankie said, referring to her and Diana.
"Thanks, I could… use a little alone time. Okay?" Zatanna asked.
"Of course." Artemis said. Frankie, Artemis, M'gann, Robin and Elliot walked out.
Frankie was in the kitchen, taking out lemonade from the refrigerator by the time the others had walked downstairs. Frankie looked sad as she sat down along with the others.
"It was sweet of you to let Zatanna live with you." M'gann said.
"I'm more surprised that you were able to convince Batman and Wonder Woman." Artemis said.
"Thanks to Zatanna, we're were able to convince them and it's the least I could do after all that have happened."
Robin put hand over hers and gave her a comforting squeeze, "Hey, hey, she doesn't blame you and it wasn't your fault."
"No one does, Chica." Elliot said. Artemis and M'gann nodded in agreement.
Frankie knew that they mean well but because of her, Zatanna had lost her father and she knows that Zatanna doesn't blame her but Frankie blames herself.
