The Cave
Zatanna lay in her bed, her cheeks were tear stained. She knew deep down that she and Robin had been over for awhile, but part of her had hoped that the affection they shared was still there.
A knock on her door made the magician look up from her pillow. "Who is it?" she called out out wearily.
"It's M'gann, Artemis and Batgirl," replied the soft voice of M'gann.
"Come in.." she mumbled carelessly.
"Heyy..." Batgirl called softly, "how you doin Zee?"
The magician sat up and wiped her face, "Been better."
"I'm sure," M'gann said comfortingly.
"Yeah," huffed Artemis. "It's not every day you see your basically ex- boyfriend kiss his hot alien princess teammate on the roof of-"
Not helping, Artemis, M'gann snapped over the mind link.
Artemis gave Zatanna an apologetic look, "I'm sorry... I'm probably just making stuff worse." She walked over and sat down next to Zatanna. "Wanna talk about what's going on in your head?"
Zatanna sighed, "It's not like we were together still, we hadn't talked for months- and we weren't even really dating, but we had a thing! And he used to say he loved me, and ... it's just. He moved on so fast, y'know? And before we could even talk about us or anything, he's off kissing her, and she's beautiful, and tall, and... and she's an alien princess! I can't compete with that..."
M'gann pulled the girl into a hug, "Oh Zee... you shouldn't have to compete."
"It's his loss anyways," Artemis rested her hand on Zatanna's shoulder, "He is a bird-brain after all." Zee chuckled lightly at the comment.
"He's being stupid," Batgirl added. "Even I can admit that. Classic teenage boy."
"Theres so many more guys out there for you, Zee."
Zatanna smiled, "Thanks guys."
Titan's Tower
Robin stood nervously outside Starfire's bedroom door. She hadn't left her room since the incident.
The boy wonder took a deep breath and knocked gently on the Tamaranean's door.
"Please," came a soft reply, "I do not wish to do 'the talking' right now."
"Star," Robin called through the door, "Please just talk to me." He was met with silence. "Star...?" Nothing. "C'mon Star, open the door. I just want to talk. I just want to explain."
After a second the door slowly slid open, revealing a stoic Starfire.
Robin looked at his feet and scratched the back of his head. "Can I come in?" He asked hopefully. "Just for five minutes?" He added, looking up and flashing her his famous smile.
"Five minutes," Starfire nodded hesitantly.
Robin sat down in the beanie bag chair next to her bed and put his head in his hands. How do I explain myself to her..? he thought.
Starfire stood in front of the boy wonder with her arms crossed, "Are you going to start 'the explaining' now?"
Robin looked up and sighed. "I don't-"
"You do not believe now is a good time for a relationship." Starfire finished, "You have already provided this explanation."
"No! It's not just that Star..."
"Then please... what is it?"
"I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about you, Star. Every mission, I would only be worried about you. If someone took you to get to me? God, Star... I don't know what I'd do." Robin stood up and began to pace. "I need you in my life. I can't put you in danger like that, It'd kill me. And it's not like I don't have feelings for you Star, I do. Of course I do. I just couldn't live with myself I you or anyone else got hurt because of my feelings for you."
Starfire looked down. "I understand your concerns. I do not wish for anyone to be harmed because of our relationship either."
Robin tilted her chin up with his finger, "Kori'ander of Tamaran, you are my best friend, and yes, I have feelings for you. But I would honestly not give up our friendship for the world."
Starfire smiled, her green eyes sparkling. "You are my best friend as well Dick Grayson, and I do not wish to change that, though I have feelings for you as well. We will stay friends, yes?"
Robin smiled, "Best friends."
