Chapter 21

Santana's P.O.V

"It's okay, my family is just like yours but crazier and louder," I said laughing.

"They're not that bad, trust me," I told Rachel as we walked into my Abuelas house. Bachata was blasting through the while entire house and the living room was turned into the dance floor. Kit and Tate were probably somewhere pigging out on the food.

"Can we go somewhere quiet," Rachel yelled over the music. I shook my head yes and took her to the backyard, where most of the old Lopez's stayed playing cards or dominoes. It was the quietest place compared to the inside of the house.

"Isnt your grandmother afraid of noise complaints?" Rachel asked as we sat on the last two empty lawn chairs.

"Nahh, most of the neighbors are here enjoying themselves anyways," I said intertwining our fingers together. Rachel smiled at the small gesture. This feels so right.

"What was your dream about that scared you?" Rachel asked of quietness. I slipped my hand out of hers and turned away.

"San.." She warned, "You're shutting me out again."

"It's stupid," I said, "I made a big thing out of nothing."

"Baby, Do you trust me?" She asked. I looked away again. She gently grabbed my face so I was looking her in her eyes.

"Do you trust me?" She said slowly.

"Yes," I confessed.

"Then what are you scared of?" She asked.

"You." I said looking her directly in her eyes. She looked shocked but overall hurt.

"I'm scared that you'll get bored of me or tired of my problems. Or you'll get tired of me being weak and scared all the time. You won't be able to find a way to love me because I'm ...broken," I finished. A single tear rolled down Rachel's cheek.

"Santana, I could never get tired of you. You see yourself as someone that's broken, I see myself as someone that wants to make you whole again," Rachel said. I kissed her and not one of those cliché fanfiction writer type kisses where our "tongues battled for dominance", not that type of kiss. I kissed her like my life depended on it. Like if this was the last time I was ever going to see her. It was like this kiss was telling her how I felt, telling her "I love you."

"Hey Santana, Abuela wants to meet your girlfriend," My cousin, Marco said. Thanks for ruining a perfect moment Marco. I got up from the lawn chair.

"Hi, I am Marco and you must be Rachel," Marco said shaking Rachel's hand.

"Hi Marco, it's finally great to meet someone from Santana's family other than her father," She said frowning.

"You finally get to me the good side of the family then," Marco said smiling. I flinched at the comment. I guess Rachel noticed.

"It was nice meeting you Marco. Come on baby lets go meet your grandmother," Rachek said grabbing my hand and escorting me inside.

"I really don't like Marco. His Mario Lopez looking ass," I said angrily. The house was a little bit mor quieter than before.

"He seems nice," She said smiling as we searched for my abuela. I looked back to see Marco checking out Rachel's butt.

"That fucker is checking you out," I said angrily. I started walking towards Marco but Rachel pulled me back.

"You look so hot when you get angry and posessive over me," She wispered in my ear. Shit. This girl is really going to be the death of me.

"Santana, ¿dónde has estado?" Abuela asked.

"I've been mingling. Uhm.. Abuela this is Rachel, my girlfriend," I said introducing each other.

"It's nice to meet you, Ms. Lopez," Rachel said shaking her hand.

"Please call me Gloria," Abuela said smiling. I smiled at the small gesture.

"Has comido?" My abuela asked Rachel.

"Abuela, Rachel doesn't understand spanish," I explained.

"Well she better learn because she's a Lopez now," She said laughing. I shook my head.

"Ay díos, she asked if you've eaten yet?" I said to Rachel.

"No, but from what I heard you cook very well," Rachel said. Why does everyone insist on making abuela's ego bigger?

"I do my research and I found out that you're vegan, so I cooked something special for you. It's in the microwave," Abuela said before walking outside. Rachel and I looked at her surprised.

"Your family is amazing," Rachel said as we walked to the massive kitchen.

"This all my mom's side of the family that's why," I said as I started to fix myself a plate of food. Rachel grabbed her "specialty order" food from the microwave.

"What about your fathers side?" She asked.

"They're old school. Homosexuality is the worst sin of them all. My dads brother came out as gay when he was 25 and my dad, his other brother, my dad's dad tried to beat the gay out of him," I said sadly, "He was my favorite uncle too."

"He died?" Rachel gasped.

"No, he was cut off and "shunned" from the family," I explained further. I walked back outside with Rachel trailing behind me and we sat at one of the picnic tables to eat.

"That's sad," Rachel said. I shrugged my shoulders.

"I hardly see my dad's family cause they all live in Maine but whenever I do I have to act like "the perfect straight daughter"" I said.

"Hey Rach," Marco said sitting down next to her.

"Marco you're like 12, she's 16, so you better gets to steping because she don't want you," I said angrily.

"I'm 15, San," He argued.

"Yeah, 15 in the seventh grade. You're dismissed," I said as I continued eating. Marco got up and left.

"Santana, that was mean," Rachel said eating.

"He deserved it," I said stuffing my mouth.

"Santana!" I turned around to see my mom with her hands on her hips smiling. I practically jumped out of my seat and ran over to her.

"I haven't seen you in like a week and a half. Where have you been?" I asked hugging her.

"Escaping your father. I've been staying at my sister's house, Anita," She said, "I know for a fact you havent been home. Where have you been staying?"

"Rachel's house," I said.

"Is that her over there?" She said motioning over to Rachel. I shook my head yes and guided her over to where Rachel and I are sitting.

"Rachel this is my mom, Maribel Lopez. Mom this is Rachel," I said.

"It's a pleasured to meet you Mrs. Lopez," Rachel said.

"How formal, please call me Maribel, I insist," My mom said. Rachel smiled.

"Alright I'll see you guys around need to mingle," My mom said laughing.

"I see where you get your laid-back attitude from," Rachel said.

"Bouncing back from a deep depression does that to you," I said.

"Are you staying with me tonight? Rachel asked going back to eating.

"If it's alright with your dads," I said.

"They absolutely adore you," Rachel said smiling.

"Speaking about your dads, where are they?" I said.

"Probably dancing somewhere or trying to speak spanish," Rachel said chuckling. Damn, I love you. Rachel started choking.

"Shit Rae, are you okay?" I exclaimed patting her lightly on the back.

"You love me?"

Shit, I did I say that outloud?

"Yes, you did," Rachel said.

"I'm sorry. I'm not sorry I said it, I'm just sorry about the timing," I said fast as hell, "I doubt you're ready to say those sacred words because we've been dating for like a week but I've felt this way for over a year and yeah." Rachel smiled.

"I might not be able to say those words now but I know how I feel about you and I know that at some point I will say those words to you and mean it with all my heart," Rachel said. I shook my head in understanding.

"You full?" Rachel shook her head yes.

"Awesome, I wanna take you somewhere," I said grabbing her hand and escorting her to my car.
