"I must inform you that a certain item has been stolen from your Warehouse. I have placed it in the rather large hands of a certain Lana Kane. I'm sure Leena will know her. So long and thanks for all the fish."
James
Krieger looked puzzled as he read the note aloud to Mrs. Frederic, Leena, and Jane. "I thought she was dead..." Leena said softly, holding back tears.
"Why? What is it?" Jane asked.
"My last name isn't Bergen. It's Kane."
"So you and this Lana are –"
"Cousins, yes. The universe Krieger came from is called 'Archer'. Lots of weird stuff happens there. Not like here, over there it's backstabbing and drama, whereas here it's just the usual magical warehouse of craziness."
"I like the sound of that..." Krieger commented. Mrs. Frederic cut him short. "Tell anyone else about this place, and I will have no choice but to kill you. Continue, Leena."
"One day, a bunch of hipsters in Portland, Oregon decided that they wanted to be 'first' at something. That's what they do, they claim they're the first to discover or invent something that has already been created. Anyway, they decided to do something actually original. They wanted to build a portal to a universe that they themselves had created."
"And something went awry?"
"Yes. They found that they had to sacrifice themselves to build the portal. And that's what they did. Later, my cousin Lana Kane was leading an animal rights campaign in Portland. They were at the Burnside Bridge, where the portal was. The police came, and she tripped, fell, and disappeared into thin air..." Leena broke down, sobbing.
"And now it seems James MacPherson has escaped from his prison, and has located this portal. And he's hidden an artifact in it."
"We can't tell Artie, though. He'd feel responsible and want to stop him himself."
"Agreed. We must check the inventory. Leena got on the computer. "Oh, no..."
"What?"
"Mjolnir. Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. It has been taken from the Warehouse."
