Christmas Drabbles: Stars
"Maman! Maman! Look at the floating lights!" Victoire shouted joyfully as she stood on her tippie toes at the window, craning her neck to see the stars better. Shell Cottage was far away from lots of civilization, meaning that there was less light pollution, and the stars were beautiful. They always were, but tonight they shone brighter than before. It had snowed that evening, so the skies were clear, there was fresh powder on the ground and the air shone with cold brilliance.
Suddenly, as the little girl watched the sky, a single star fell.
"Maman!" She yelled. But before her mum could come and see, another one fell. And another and another.
"It's a shooting star, Victoire," Fleur said as she came outside, her daughter sitting on the front steps. "We're watching a meteor shower. Make a wish, my love, and don't tell anyone or it won't come true."
Victoire nodded happily and closed her eyes, tight, wishing for the magic of a shooting star.
