As a few hours went by, Clara kept quiet as she watched Adrian, Sam and Gwen talk. She tried to ignore Bobby sitting in the other corner shooting Sam death glares. Clara sighed as she went back to the happier picture, Of course a four year old is very easy to get along with but Sam was doing a great job at making her laugh. It made Clara smile and Dean noticed. He hadn't seen her smile like that in a while. It was like all was right with her world.
"You might strain yourself." he nudged her as they sat next to each other in the kitchen.
She took a deep breath as she sat back. "Look at that. It's almost like a Hallmark card." She joked and looked at him with a smile. He didn't seem so happy. "What is it?" She asked quietly as his eyes left hers.
"Nothing." he shook his head and just watched his family laugh. He could feel Clara still looking at him and when he felt her hand on his shoulder he sighed and leaned forward on the table. "It won't be like this for long." He added and she sighed sliding a hand down his back.
"Probably not." She agreed. "So we enjoy it while it lasts." She nodded as he looked back as her taking her hand and squeezing it tight. He knew she didn't want to think about what was going to happen next and he didn't either. He locked his fingers with hers and they both smiled at each other.
They both heard Gwen giggled and they looked over at her. She was standing on the couch behind Sam and playing with his long hair. She was trying her best to braid it and soon Sam reached over his shoulders and grabbed her by the side. She laughed out loud as he tickled her. That alone brought a tear to Clara's eye. How could Sam go from trying to kill her to the sweetest human being in the whole world.
The loud huff Bobby gave off made Dean look to him as he nearly tripped over himself trying to storm out the back door. He rushed past them and slammed the door. Gwen let off a bit of a yelp and looked to her parents.
"Papa?!" She yelled out a bit confused. She looked worried.
Adrian looked to Clara who stood first. "Stay here." She smiled to them as she headed for the door. She heard Dean follow her and he closed the door behind them. Gwen soon went back to laughing once they left. "Bobby?" Clara questioned as they walked around the corner and found Bobby pacing in his garage.
He didn't answer right away until he saw them both standing in front of him. They were confused and he huffed again. "So what now?" He asked crossing his arms. "Sam's back, and now what?"
"Bobby-" Dean started.
"No!" Bobby snapped. "He nearly killed us, not even a day ago."
"Lower your voice." Dean demanded.
"And now everything is just fine? I can barley look at the kid, and he is in there playing with my granddaughter." Bobby looked to Clara all but ignoring Dean. "How are you okay with that?" he asked but Clara had no answer.
"It wasn't Sam." Dean offered and Clara sighed shaking her head.
"Look the point is, he's fine. Now it's just Sam." She tried to sound convincing.
"And now that you have your brother back... You off on the road again?" Bobby exhaled deeply and looked at Dean who didn't have an answer. "Back to normal." He threw out and Dean sighed.
"That doesn't matter right now." Clara answered for Dean. She didn't expect him to know what to do so she tried to help. "What matters is that Sam is fine and things will just work themselves out." She shrugged.
Bobby laughed at her. "He must have hit you too many times." He narrowed his eyes. "I gotta get out of here." Bobby shook his head. "Here. Deal with this or call someone in." He huffed handing Clara a newspaper clipping and a few other print outs.
"Bobby?" She questioned as he walked away. He didn't answer, he just got in his car and took off.
Clara looked down at the papers and shook her head. "Job." She looked to Dean who sighed and rubbed his face. "What do we do?" She asked looking at him.
"What dose it say?" He asked trying to see how bad of a case it was.
"Portland, Oregon. Plane went down. Just the pilot and his girlfriend." She said scanning the paper. "Pilot was burned and 17 miles away from the crash." She sighed. "Girl is still missing." She looked up at Dean who just looked down trying to figure out what to do.
"Alright..." He paused trying to think.
"If we leave with in the hour we can get there by tomorrow morning." She offered. "Enough time to interview the roommate and parents." She shrugged trying to help him figure it out. "I can do some research on the road and see what I can find." She sighed.
"You think we should take it?" He asked a bit put off by her answers.
"Well we can't do nothing." She laughed a bit. "Won't take more than a few days." She shrugged.
"What about Gwen?" He asked.
"Adrian will make sure she is okay." She smiled.
"You trust Sam enough?" Dean was still confused.
"No." She answered him honestly. "But I can't let you go alone." She sighed.
"Alone where?" Sam's voice came from the door as he walked out quickly. Clara and Dean's eyes snapped to him and he smiled. He looked at Clara and saw the papers in her hands. "Case?" He seemed excited. "Where?" He asked.
"Portland." Clara answered.
"Great, when do we leave?" He looked to Dean.
"You just got vertical Sam." Dean shook his head. "Just stay here and rest. I can take this one." He looked to Clara.
"What?" Clara and Sam questioned.
"Look Sam, a few more days of rst couldn't hurt."
"Right." Sam laughed. "Cause that's what you did when you got back form hell." Sam shook his head. "I'm good." He tried to convince his brother.
Dean sighed. "Fine." he nodded.
"Then I'm coming with." Clara nodded as she headed for teh door.
"No." Dean stopped her. "You should stay here." He said and Clara turned around quickly.
"It wasn't an offer." She shook her head and just looked at Dean. He said nothing else as she went back into the house.
It was hard for Gwen to understand why her mother and father were both leaving. They told her they had to leave for a few days and would be back as soon as possible. They told her Adrian and Bobby were going to make sure she was safe, but she was still scared. She cried and Dean couldn't help but pick her up and hold her.
It was off for Sam to watch his brother be so soft and caring. The only Dean he knew was the hunter, not the father. He had to smile at what Dean said to Gwen to make her stop crying.
"Listen to me." Dean sat down on the couch and put Gwen on his lap. She sniffed as tears fell from her eyes. "Remember how brave you were when you fell off the swings?" He asked.
"Yea..." She said rubbing her eyes.
"Well I need you to be brave again. Okay?" He asked and she just pouted and started to cry again.
"What if the bad guys come back." She whispered and stared at him.
"I promise that those bad guys are never going to come back." Dean nodded at his daughter who listened. "Adrian is going to protect you from all those nightmares okay?" He asked and Gwen nodded. "And when it gets too scary do you remember what to do?" he asked.
Clara sighed as she sat next to Dean and watched as Gwen smiled a bit. "Run to a closet and close the door?" She asked.
"Then what?" Clara asked and smiled.
"Close my eyes tightly, cover my ears and scream." She said as she closed her eyes and covered her ears.
"And what do you scream?" Clara and Dean asked and Gwen opened her eyes.
"Castiel help me please..." She whispered to them.
"Good job sweetheart." Clara smiled as she reached forward and hugged Gwen. "Mommy loves you soo much." she squeezed tightly.
"Love you too Mommy." She sighed as she kissed Clara's cheek. "Daddy?" She asked as Dean took her from Clara. She stood and walked over to Adrian and told him to take care of her.
"What is it baby?" Dean asked as Gwen placed her little hands on his cheeks and smiled.
"Be careful." She smiled. "Make sure the bad guys don't hurt you and Mommy." She sighed and the hugged Dean tightly.
"Never." Dean smiled as he hugged her.
