Over the next 2 years, I was trained by the best soldiers in the City of Light. I was now stronger, had more stamina and I was blessed my Aether and Hermera so I had powers over light and day. For 2 years, I had the same routine, I would wake up and get ready, and then I would go practice for 3 hours with my commanders. Then after lunch, I would go to the throne room and meet up with Aether and practice with my powers. After that, I would have dinner then learn the history of the City of Light with Hermera. Even though I dearly missed my family, I couldn't say that I hated my stay in the heavens. They were very kind people and she always honest. They even made me blue food on occasions. On my last week on the City of Light, I was jumping with anticipation. Only one week left until I could go back to my family, friends and Artemis.
I was training with one of my commanders, who liked to call me Light Bulb. He said that he calls me that because I was blessed my Aether and Hermera and that I was a smart ass. Soon, I get a message from Aether. He wanted me to immediately to go to the throne room. I gave my commander a small smile and started to walk towards the throne room.
Once I was there, I bowed to them and stood in front of them. Hermera gave me a warm smile while Aether had a straight face. But I have been living with them for 2 years; I could tell when he was proud. It was shown in his eyes.
"You summoned me?" I ask. I was curious. They never called me during my practice sessions unless it was really important.
"Yes. You have done remarkably well over the last 2 years. We wouldn't have asked for a better soldier to defeat the giants the god of darkness. Now it is almost time for you to leave so we have decided to give you a gift. You are like a son to us and you will be the first person to get a gift like this," Aether said.
With that, he sent a blinding light straight to me. I didn't hurt. It was warm and it made me smile. After a few moments, I started feeling pressure against my back. Once the light diminished, I craned my neck and saw bright, white wings branching out of my back. My jaw dropped.
"Oh my gods. This is so cool. Thank you!" I exclaimed as I have my new wings a small flap.
"For the next week, you will train fighting in the air. It may be hard for the first few hours but I am sure that you will get the hang of it. Your old commander will not be training you anymore. No one else has wings like that except for me and Hermera so there is no one that can train you but us. Now off you go. You have to break in the new wings," he said as Hermera beamed at me.
As soon as I walked out of the throne room, I took off running into the training room. Once I got there, I jumped into the air and unfurled my wings. I gave them strong flaps and tried flying. At first I slowly rose up, and then I almost had a heart attack when I plummeted about 20 feet but I regained my balance.
After a couple hours, I had got the hang of flying. Although, I wouldn't do any fancy tricks yet.
It was accelerating, to feel the rush of air go by your face and the thrill as you soar above the world.
Aether's POV
I slowly walked to the training room with a small smile dancing on my lips. Percy has been like a son to me for the past 2 years. We have gotten extremely close and I knew, the moment that I had blessed him with wings, that he would spend the rest of his time mastering flying. Once I got there, I stood hidden behind the training room walls as Percy soared into the sky. He was a remarkable fast learner and I knew in no time, he would be able to fight with speed and grace in the air. After an hour of watching my apprentice practice with his new wings, I walked back to my room to talk to my wife.
I walked into a magnificent white room with a cream fluffy couch. I gazed across the room and spotted my wife sitting in a small white loveseat, watching the humans down on earth in a ball of light. Me and Hermera had the power to look at other things that weren't near us. It was kind of like an Iris except we used the light in the air instead of the water. I walked up to my wife and sat down next to her. She was staring at the scene in front of her. Artemis and her hunters were in the middle of a full out battle. They were protecting their campgrounds as thousands of monsters surrounded them. They were greatly outnumbered but they still fought on. Almost all of them were injured and I saw one of them lying on the ground, dead.
Hermera looked up to me with sadness in her eyes. She knew that we would have to send Percy back to earth immediately. Neither of us wanted to let our new son go off but we knew if had to happen. He would hate himself if anything happened to Artemis. He still truly loved her. Even though she didn't know that he was still alive, he still watched over her as much as he can. The only reason he isn't there right now, is that he is busy training himself for the new threat.
With sadness wrapped around me like a strait jacket, I went to go get Percy so we can send him back to earth to save the one he loves.
