"Not bad for a beginner."
Kagome opens her eyes and finds herself once more in the white room. Her past self stands before her (we'll call her Gome).
"I got my ass handed to me."
Gome chuckled.
"It was your first time with the weapon," she explains. "You may have my knowledge of how to wield it, but your body still needs to be conditioned on how to move with it."
"Makes sense," Kagome grumbles.
"Don't be so hard on yourself," encourages Gome. "Not only did you hold your own against that albino freak, but you also made that Impa chick eat her words."
"Who's Impa?"
"The woman from the Earth Temple that insulted you and Link."
Kagome's eyes narrowed.
"Oh, her."
Kagome sighs.
"What's wrong," asks Gome.
"Why did my sister ignore me whenever we met up?"
A knowing smile spreads across Gome's face.
"Well," she says. "I won't tell you outright, but I will give you a hint."
"What?"
"Wake up."
~* End Dreamscape *~
With a small groan, Kagome's eyes opened slowly.
Looking around in confusion, she soon realizes that she is back in her room at the Academy.
She figures something is different when she feels a weight across her waist and warm air on the back of her neck.
Moving her eyes downward, she finds a lightly tanned arm resting across her waist. The hand belonging to the arm is holding her own, their fingers intertwined. Turning her head back as carefully as she can, she looks behind to see Link's sleeping face. Lying on top of the blankets covering her form, he spoons her body in a protective manner. With a tired smile, Kagome snuggles further into his embrace and gives his hand a small squeeze as she once more falls asleep.
~* One Sleepy Time Later *~
As Kagome awoke once more, she noticed that the weight of Link's arm was no longer present. Looking behind her, she saw the spot where he was resting was now empty. A quick glance around the room showed that he was not in there, but the door was open a bit. Lifting her sore body from the bed, she put on a loose dress and went out into the hall. Looking up and down the hallway for any sign of life, she heard voices coming from her father's office. Taking a step forward, she is halted as the door opens.
Not noticing her, Link steps out and closes the door behind him. Lifting his head up, blue eyes clash with cerulean. It took him only a few strides to cross the hall to reach her.
"What are you doing up? How are you feeling? Does it hurt anywhere? How's your head?"
Placing a small hand over his mouth, Kagome smiles up at him.
"I'm up because I was looking for you. I'm feeling fine. I'm not hurting, just a little sore and I have a slight headache."
Narrowing his eyes at her, he licks the hand covering his mouth.
"Ew!"
Not paying her any attention, he lifts her up and takes her back to her room.
"Hey! Put me down!"
Placing her back in bed, Link covers her up and sits down beside her.
She pouts up at him.
"I don't want to be in bed."
Link hands her a glass of water.
"I know you don't," he says. "But Ghirahim hit you pretty hard, and that wall didn't help."
"How long have I been out?"
"Three days."
Kagome chokes on the water she had been drinking.
"What?!"
Link nods his head.
"And you missed some pretty interesting stuff."
"Like what?"
Link situates himself as he recounts his adventure.
"Well," he said. "After I got us back here, I had Karane come and take a look at you."
Kagome nodded.
"After she said you would be alright, I asked her to sit with you until I got back."
"From where?"
"Patience," he playfully scolded.
She stuck her tongue out at him.
"While you were fighting Ghirahim, Impa told me that the old woman we met would be able to help us, so I went to her. And guess who followed me down."
Kagome narrows her eyes.
"Who?"
"Groose."
"Groose?!"
"Yep."
"Why?"
"He noticed that I was coming and going so often, he figured if he followed me the next time I left I would lead him to Zelda."
"Seriously?"
Nodding, Link starts to laugh.
"You should have seen how he reacted when he noticed where we were."
Kagome smiles at Link's laughter.
"So then," he says. "After I explain things to him, he tells me that he's taking over."
"No he didn't!"
Link nods.
"He did," he confirms. "Then he went to the old woman and I guess tried to tell her the same thing."
"You guess?"
"Yeah, he moves pretty fast when he wants to. I got in there as she was shooting him down."
"Bet that made him happy."
"Oh, he got pissed when she told him that I was the one destined to save her."
"Ouch."
"Yeah. Then he goes running out the front door."
"So brave."
Link agrees.
"After he leaves, the old woman shows me how to play the harp Zelda gave me at the Temple of Time. The song she taught me opened a second Gate of Time."
"A second one?"
He nods before continuing.
"Which, in order to open, I must face 'many challenges and hardships'."
Kagome snorts.
"Sounds fun."
Link nods, his expression growing somber.
"After the closed gate showed up, the ground started to shake."
Kagome sits up to listen.
"Do you remember that seal we found when we first landed?"
"Yes."
"It broke."
She gasps.
"The vision we had of a giant monster? That was what was sealed."
Her eyes widen.
"I was able to re-seal it," he assures her. "But not completely."
"It can get break free again."
"It will," he corrects. "She told me I have to strengthen my sword by finding some sacred flames."
"Yay, more traveling."
He scoffs.
"She also said the clues to finding the flames are in the Ballad of the Goddess."
"The song used in the Wing Ceremony?"
He nods.
"I was just asking your dad about it. He said that a Light Tower is mentioned, and that it's referring to the lighthouse near the bazaar."
"What do we do?"
He sighs.
"I don't know. Another part of the lyrics said something about 'showing two whirling sails the way to the tower'."
"Any idea what it means?"
"Not a clue."
The two are silent as they think.
'Two whirling sails…" mutters Kagome.
"Do you think the song is talking about the two windmills?"
Link looks at her in surprise.
"I didn't even think about those!"
She gives him a look.
She moves to get up when Link stops her.
"What are you doing?"
"Getting up so we can go to the windmills."
He pulls the covers back over her.
"You are still recovering," he says. "I will see about the windmills while you rest for just a bit longer."
"But…"
"The lighthouse is only going to show the way. I promise I will not go searching for the flames without you."
She hesitantly agrees.
"Alright," she says. "But you better come get me when you know where to go!"
Giving her a smile, Link walks out the door.
"Might as well take a nap," she grumbles.
She soon falls asleep.
