This is not beta'd. All mistakes are mine.

"You think I'm pretty without any make-up on, you think I'm funny when I tell the punchline wrong, I know you get me so I let my walls come down-ow-own." I twirl into my kitchen, blasting the Katy Perry song from the living room speakers. This is the only time I get to listen to it. Quil hates Katy Perry, like hardcore-I-might-throttle-her-if-I-ever-see-her kinda hate. It's not cool. I'm neutral about her, I guess. Sometimes she gets on my nerves, especially when I hear her for the ninth in one road trip, but once I get my space from her, I like her. She's got my kind of spunk.

I grab last night's chicken for the fridge and pop them in the frying pan. I guess I could microwave, but this is more natural. It heats better. At least in my head it does. I peel and cut up a couple of fruits while I'm waiting and blend into a smoothie for two. Quil is obsessed. I think he's going through a phase, like he did with seafood. Blegh.

I, for one, am very glad he's out of that phase. I hated the fact that the entire house smelled like fish for months after. I grab a leg from the pan and leave the rest on another plate for Quil when he comes in. I think he's out swimming. He's missed the water. After moving in the Black Pack, he hadn't been around water enough and was ecstatic when he found a public man-made beach close by. Though he hates the idea, he needs to be in the water so he sucks it up and hangs around there for a while every day.

When I hear a car pull up, I rush to the stereo and turn it to some rock n' roll jam. That should work. He'll never know. I manage to wrap myself in an afghan before he walks in the living room so he has no reason to suspect anything.

"Hey babe." He kisses me lightly before heading to kitchen. "You heated up the chicken?"

"Yeah," I holler. He plops down next to me on the couch a few minute later and I lean into him, a sense of contentment spreading through me.

Home.
