21- Snow
When Tsuna woke that morning, it was to Byakuran's arm sprawled over his face, the blankets tangled around their bodies and poor Bunbun squished between their bodies. The little brunet pushed Bya-kun's arm away and rubbed his eyes with a hand. He let out a cute little yawn before sitting up and squinting at the bright light streaming through the window.
When his gaze focused, he gasped and crawled over to the window to place his hands on the glass.
The roof was blanketed in a thick covering of white just like all the neighbouring houses. The street and trees and bushes and mailboxes were all in the same state. The snow glowed in the morning sunlight, and muffled the sounds of traffic nearby. It was just like in a story book.
Tsuna's breath fogged the glass, and he wiped it away to continue marvelling at the beauty of snow.
"Tsu-chan..." Tsuna turned his head and giggled at Byakuran grimacing and trying to pull the tangled blanket over his face. "Turn off the light..."
"I can't, Bya-kun, it's the sun."
The white haired child grumbled and gave up on the blanket, turning over instead to sleep face down on the pillow, his unruly hair splayed out messily.
Tsuna grinned cheekily and lifted the window. The snow that built up on the sill toppled as cold cold wind blew into the warm room. Tsuna shivered but continued with his cheeky antics as he crawled over to where Bya-kun was located and jumped on his friend.
The white haired child let out a groan as a weight settled on his back. But the weight blocked out the cold wind so he just went right back to sleep.
Tsuna pouted, trying to shake Bya-kun, to no avail. He then started playing with his friend's bed hair, not that his was any better.
After a while, he got bored. He left Bunbun with the task of getting Bya-kun up. Then he pulled on a warm poofy coat, woollen mittens and beanie, and rubber gum boots before leaping out of the window and sliding down the short roof that ran around the first storey squealing with glee.
He landed safely in the soft snowfall.
Since Bya-kun was too busy sleeping to play, Tsuna decided to head off for Hibari-san's place. Hibari-san should be awake now; he was an early riser despite his low blood pressure.
Tracking little shoe prints in the snow covered footpath, he ran, almost tripping over from time to time. He was heading for the large Japanese style home.
By the time he arrived, his was leaving little puffs of condensed air in front of his face and his chubby cheeks were flushed pink. Too focused on watching where his feet were going in case he tripped again he didn't notice the obstacle in his path until it was too late. He bumbled into a tall pair of legs and squeaked as large hands came down and caught him before he fell.
"Apologies, little one."
Tsuna peered upward to see a man crouched in front of him, smiling serenely. The man wore a long red robe and white cotton pants. Tsuna wondered how he wasn't cold. Though what really caught his eye was the uncanny resemblance the man had to Hibari-san. His eyes, though much more friendly and gentle, was the same shape as the prefect's. His hair was similar, sans the long braided tail that was trailing over one shoulder and into the snow covered floor.
Tsuna blushed as he realised he was staring and did a little bow, ducking his head shyly. "S-sorry for bumping into you."
When he felt a large hand ruffle his locks of hair, he peeked up through his bangs to see the man's gaze drift toward the large heavy gate that led into the Hibari home. The gaze looked almost sad.
"A-are you related to Hibari-san?"
The man looked surprised as he turned back. "Are you talking about Kyoya-kun?" At Tsuna's nod, he nodded his head. "Yes, I'm his mother's cousin. My name is Fon. What is yours, little one?"
"My name is Tsuna." The brunet bowed again. "Pleased to meet you Fon-san."
Fon chuckled into a sleeve and ruffled the brunet's unruly hair. "I didn't know Kyoya-kun had made such an adorable friend."
Tsuna's cooling cheeks flushed again as he squirmed, his mittens clutching at the hem of his parka.
Seeing Fon glance at the gate again, he brought out the courage to ask, "a-aren't you going in?"
Fon looked hesitant, which Tsuna found unusual on a face so similar to the stoic prefect's. "No, I do not think I will be welcomed."
"Why not?" Tsuna asked curiously. "Aren't they your family?"
Fon settled onto the thick pile of snow that had gathered at around the wall that ran around the Hibari house. "They are, but... Kyoya-kun is a smart child."
Tsuna nodded in agreement, also settling on the snow next to the man.
"He understands and disapproves of my recent work. I guess it makes sense since my cousin was deeply involved until she was injured beyond repair. And his father used to work for the Japanese intelligence before he passed away."
Tsuna just blinked up at Fon, wiggling his pink nose, only understanding a bit, but it was enough. Hibari-san's mother, Tomoe-san, was blind, she had a light scar that ran over her closed eyes which was usually obscured by her hair. He had met Hibari-san's father too, the alter was placed in a small alcove in the room that ran off the living room. If there was a job that made other people sad because close people got hurt or worse, Tsuna wouldn't want his Mama or Bya-kun to be involved either. "Why don't you just quit?"
Fon smiled, running a hand through the child's fluffy hair. He really had no idea why he was opening up to a child he had just met, perhaps it was due to the openly honest and pure eyes this particular child had, but if there was one thing he could appreciate, it was the innocent and unbiased opinions children held. "My job is not something someone can quit without consequences, little one." And he certainly could not risk the triads going after his remaining family.
Tsuna pouted. Consequence was a big word that meant something happening because you did something yourself. Like when he and Bya-kun had chosen to tackle Miwako-sensei and got a big scolding for it. It was like a trade. "How about you give your boss something good in exchange for not working anymore?"
Fon laughed softly. "I think that something would have to be so precious that he would drop everything to get it."
Tsuna's brows knotted together as he wondered what that would be.
"Herbivore! Herbivore!"
Both of them looked up and Tsuna went cross eyed as Hibird landed on his nose. "Good morning, Hibird," he greeted cheerfully.
The yellow puff ball hopped into Tsuna's hair, letting him turn his head toward the front again. "Morning! Morning!" The bird cheeped eagerly. "Herbivore, cold! In!"
Fon got the message as Tsuna tried to peer up at the bird on his head. "It is quite cold outside. Why don't you head inside?"
Tsuna squeaked as he was picked up. "Only if Fon-san goes inside as well," he protested with a pout, hoping to convince the man to go in.
Fon pushed open the large heavy doors slightly, enough for a child to fit through. He placed Tsuna down at the door and gently ran his hand through the fluffy locks one more time. "It's best if I don't, little one. Now go and play with Kyoya-kun..." Fon made a strange face at the thought of his young nephew actually playing like a child.
Tsuna pouted, before inspiration hit him. He held up an orange coloured device to the adult.
Fon blinked at it before taking it. It was a small flip phone, orange in colour and with a simple number pad and screen, obviously designed for children. He glanced down at the child. "You want my number...?"
Tsuna smiled and nodded eagerly.
Fon didn't see any harm in giving his personal number to his nephew's friend. "I won't put my name down, is that alright?" He asked as he typed in his number. He put a little red dragon image as his name. The martial artist was slightly surprised, after entering his details that the other stored numbers didn't have names either. A pink 'C' and a marshmallow picture weren't exactly defining, though 'Okaa-san' was self explanatory. He did quirk a smile at the image of tonfa though. Also, none of the numbers were displayed, only X's took their place. The child sure had some security on his phone.
When Tsuna got his phone back, he looked at the little red dragon and grinned before bowing. "Thank you, Fon-san."
When he straightened, Fon-san was gone. Tsuna peered out the door in confusion.
"Tsunayoshi."
He turned back and smiled cheerfully before greeting, "good morning, Hibari-san!"
Hibari had his arms folded, looking as stern as a seven year old could be. "What are you doing?"
Tsuna glanced back through the ajar gate doors before facing the other child with a little grin. "I came to play in the snow with Hibari-san!"
"It is too cold," the other stated nonchalantly. "You should-" He blinked at a sudden flash and glowered when he saw the little orange phone in Tsuna's hands, the brunet peering around it with flushed cheeks. He took out his tonfa, menacing aura growing.
"I'll bite you to death, herbivore."
Tsuna squealed and was chased down the street, all the way back to Byakuran's home.
Later, he sent the photo to Fon-san and convinced Bya-kun to join him on his mission of taking photos of Hibari-san's antics.

I took a photo of Hibari-san today! Then he chased me down the road, trying to 'bite' me. It was so much fun!
Fon sweat dropped and hoped his nephew wouldn't be too rough on his play mate.

We made snowmen with Hibari-san and Testuya-san! Bya-kun and I made a pineapple shaped one which Hibari-san bit to death. Apparently he doesn't like pineapples, do you know why? Then we threw snowballs at each other. Tomoe-san let us stay over because we were all wet when we went inside.
Fon smiled at the image of his nephew scowling and baring his tonfa at the snow-pineapple. There was a white haired child standing protectively in front of it and Kusakabe Tetsuya looked like he was trying to placate the irate child.
He had no idea why his nephew disliked pineapples though.

-Byakuran
The martial artist's eyes softened at the picture of his nephew curled around the smaller boy. He resisted the urge to make it his phone background if only because of security reasons. He did wonder why this Byakuran was using Tsuna's phone though.
