"Hurry!" I yelled. "Go!"

No time to spare, I jumped off the carriage although I lost my balance just a little. Bursting in through the door, a clatter of bowls circled round and round on the floor.

"Aerith?! What the hell are you doing?" Claire scolded.

Not paying attention, I turned to the television. Lani was sitting on the floor, watching the box. On the screen were bursts of images, blurry and unable to see what it was. As soon as I looked at the screen, it went black.

"Lani? Lani?!" I exclaimed, crouching next to the little girl and holding her cheeks. "Lani. Lani, sweetie? Lani!"

"She's fine, Aerith!" Claire folded her arms.

She suddenly blinked and whispered, "Aerith?"

"Yes." I sighed of relief. "Yes, it's me. Aerith."

"When did you get home?" She asked.

I looked up to Sebastian, "Sebastian. Please get a doctor to come examine Lani."

"As you wish." Sebastian nodded, heading towards the home phone.

"What happened? Is this a case?" Claire asked.

I nodded, "Yeah. Killer televisions."

"This world…" Claire pinched the bridge of her nose.

I chuckled lightly, "So, I saw Charlie?"

"He's alive?!" Claire gasped.

I face palmed, "Really?"

"Well, yes! He's bound to be in his late fifties, no?"

"Just like you." I laughed.

"Again with the old lady jokes." Claire sighed but smiled.

"The doctor will be here soon." Sebastian entered the room.

"Thank you. Keep an eye on Lani while I check out the television."

"Be careful." Claire warned before stepping aside for me to have access to the killer box.

Approaching it ever so cautiously, I noticed a small hole, no bigger than a dime, in the top rim of the television. Dark and looking plastic, I eyed it and raising an eyebrow.

"There was a hand."

Three pairs of eyes turned to the little girl. "Yeah, there was one. I remember."

"Lani, this isn't time for jokes." Claire scolded. "Lani, I-"

"No! Don't say anything!" I exclaimed and came close to Lani, holding her small baby-like hands. "What did it look like?"

"…Freaky…and it was…glowing…"

"How did it appear?" Sebastian asked.

"A thing came on the television and it asked me to switch the channel. I switched the knob and…that's all I remember." Lani pointed to me. "Then you suddenly appeared in front of me and we are here!"

"I don't want you near that thing ever again! I swear, I fall for one invention…" Claire held her forehead.

"Can I take it? I want Charlie to see something." I said, creeping near the television again. I turned my head and mouthed out words to Claire. "Get out of here. Trust me."

Sebastian looked at me funny but still went with the flow.

Claire blinked once. Meaning she understood what I said. "Be my guest." Claire scooped up Lani and took her down the hallway. "Lani, let's get you prepared for the doctor."

"Sebastian, pass me something. Like a hammer or a crowbar or something." I whispered.

Without a word, a hammer was in my hand and I snarled at the hole. "Do not ever come near her again." Using the hammer's end, I bashed into the television, creating a severe crack in the hole. A faint buzz hummed and died down within seconds.

"I knew it." I smirked.

"It was recording, wasn't it?" Sebastian asked.

"Yeah. That's why I interrupted Claire and told her to leave when my face wasn't looking at the hole." Rising up, I told Sebastian, "Let's take it back to Charlie. Hopefully, we'll tell him the good news."

The demon held the television with ease, carrying it to the carriage.

"We'll be back, Claire!" I exclaimed and left after hearing 'okay'.

Climbing inside the coach, it took off, going back to the crazy inventor's place. I folded my arms, trying my hardest to focus on the television.

"It's dead, Aerith."

"Shut up."

"I wonder what the connection is between Lani and our culprit."

"Simple. There is none."

"Huh?"

I smiled like a fool, "It's obviously that the suspect was trying to tell us something. Like, back off or I'll do that again. In addition, in the family of the Mazens, we have no connections to the Heaps. I didn't even know they existed."

Sebastian nodded, "I suppose you are right."

"We're here." I pointed out, looking at the crappy place. "Let's go."

Jumping off, Sebastian followed, carrying more of Charlie's 'found' television.

"Ah, you're back early." Charlie held the door for the both of us, tossing a broken pair of glasses over his shoulders.

"She's fine. Her and there was a little girl named Lani there. Both are gonna be okay."

"Good." He huffed. "Now, while you were out, I managed to inspect it but nothing new. Everything is fried."

"Then mind looking at this one?" I pointed to the box Sebastian was carrying.

"What's the difference between this one and the heap of junk in the back?"

"One, everything here is junk."

"Ain't got no shame, honey." He smirked. "Second?"

"This one was recording the incident."

His eyes widen, "Oh, dear. Come on."

Following Charlie, the two of us returned to his room of computers. In front of us was a destroyed television, wires sparking and looking like a black hole.

"'Inspecting?'" I asked.

"That's right. See, there's that noggin workin'." He cackled, asking Sebastian to set down the television.

"Aye." I let out a puff of breath, holding my forehead.

"Now, let's see here…" He smashed the television instantly with a large hammer. The box broke apart, revealing its wire guts. "Here it is." He held up a large camera, the frame and the lens cracked thanks to me. "Who did this?"

"That would be me." I raised my hand. "I could tell it was recording and I had to destroy it."

"Dear, if you'd left it alone, I could analyze it and find its trace."

"Oh." I bit my lip. 'Damn it all!'

"It's fine but I thought it would be easier. As for the television, it's the same as the other one. I'll keep them here in case."

"Thank you."

"Anytime. Anything for the Mazens." He clicked his tongue.

"Right. Sebastian? Let's get back to Claire's house."

"Of course, My Lady." Sebastian nodded.

"Oh!" Charlie exclaimed, clapping his hands. "You reminded me of something."

"That is?" I asked.

"I want some muffins."

Sebastian and I blinked, looking at each other before I asked, "That's it?"

"Well, that…" The old man opened a drawer and handed me a sliver pocketknife. "Give this to Claire."

"Okay." I nodded. "Did it belong to her?"

"That's a story for later. I suggest you hurry and see that girl Lani."

I rose both eyebrows in curiosity but had no complaints. "Let's get going, Sebastian."

The butler took the lead as we approached the twilight-colored sky outside. Climbing inside the carriage and without another word, the cab made a U-shaped turn, turning to go back to my aunt's house. Gazing at the sharp sliver, I couldn't help but to flip the bottom, revealing the blade.

"This was Claire's?" I asked, almost to myself.

"That is what Sir Charlie said." Sebastian replied.

"I doubt it. She would never use this." I laughed. "But…I still wonder…what was Claire's past? What brought her to the person she is today?"

"Who knows?" Sebastian shrugged his shoulders.

"I won't push her but…I can't help but think." I looked out the window. "We're here."

The two of us walked to Claire's cottage, a doctor closing the door and checking his bag to make sure he had everything.

"Dr. Halleus?" I asked.

"Ah, Phantomhive. What a surprise." He smiled. "How's the asthma?"

"Hasn't bothered me."

"Really? In this weather? I would imagine you would be wheezing."

"Nope."

"Huh. Interesting."

"Were you here to check on Lani?"

"Yes, I was. She's going to be just fine." He gave a comforting smile.

"Good." I sighed. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. Now, I must be off; have another appointment."Dr. Halleus walked off, down the street and looking like he was to disappear into the sunset.

Opening the front door, I said my greetings to both girls, one smiling and one faking a smile.

"Hey, Lani. How are you?" I smiled.

"Great!" She giggled.

"And you, Claire?"

Claire gave a small curve. "Alright."

"Oh! I wanna talk to you." I said.

"Sure. Let's go in the kitchen." Claire offered, walking to the next room.

"Sebastian, can you keep Lani busy? Please?"

"As you wish." Sebastian nodded. He frowned as Lani ran around him, laughing with glee. "What do I do? I am not cut out for this."

"Just make her laugh, I suppose. I won't take long, I promise." I said and walked to the kitchen, closing the small white door. "Charlie wanted me to give you this." I showed her the pocketknife that I acquired.

She gasped, covering her mouth with both hands. "He…"

"What?" I asked.

She shook her head, taking the knife and examining it. "So many years…"

"From?"

"Oh, nothing. I'll tell you when you are older."

"Alright." I shrugged my shoulders.

"But I have a question for you." She said sternly.

'Oh, crap. What did I do?' "What is it?"

"Did you purposely bring Dr. Halleus here?"

"What? No! In addition, Sebastian called for him. I didn't."

"You weren't trying to…"

"What?"

"You weren't trying to see what the connection is between me and the doctor?"

"I know that he is my ex-uncle."

Clare cringed.

"But, no. It's your business."

Claire approached me, clutched onto my shoulders and smiled. "You are so much like your mother. With your father's personality, of course."

I chuckled, "So I've been told."

"Alright, go on home. Lani will be fine, I promise."

"Fine." I opened the door back to the family room to see the two at the same place. Little Lani running around and Sebastian watching her closely, not knowing what to do.

I started to snicker. "Come on. Let's get back to the manor."

"Alright." Sebastian nodded.

"Bye-bye!" Lani giggled, dashing into the kitchen when Claire called for her.

Sebastian and I walked back to the carriage, the sky already a division between a creamy orange and dark black.

(Afternoon)

"Hallucination?" I asked.

Sebastian nodded, "Yes. I was looking for an explanation for the 'weird' hand coming out. But it's really the brain that's doing it. When hypnotized, the brain still works but still suffers symptoms. They were just imagining the hand."

"Wow." I blinked. "Nice job, Sebastian."

"Only for you." He smirked.

"Shut up." I held up papers in front of my face to hide my heated cheeks. "Let me know if anyone calls about the case."

"As you wish." Sebastian left the room.

"We've got another call." Sebastian walked into the office.

"What?! Already?" I exclaimed, getting up from the chair.

"I have them on hold."

"Alright." I rushed down the steps and to the phone lying on the table. "Hello?"

A woman's sobbing answered. "I-Is this A-Aerith?"

"Yes. Ease your crying. What happened?"

"He-He was watching the television and-and he…his brain melted…"

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Molly Fieldson." She sniffed.

'Where have I heard that name Fieldson?' "Who is dead? Your husband?"

Molly whimpered, "Y-Yes. His name is Eugene Littlegreen."

"Where do you live?"

"On the corner of Farn and Iris."

"Okay, Molly. Listen to me. I will send the cops to your house so they can inspect the body. Tell them that I require the television and send it to a man named Charlie. Everything will be alright."

"Thank you, miss." Molly cried and hung up.

Placing the receiver down, I raised it next to my ear and dialed the police.

"This is Officer Hensley."

"Hensley!" I exclaimed.

"Phantomhive? How can I be of service?"

"Listen. You need to go to a house on the corner Farn and Iris."

"Another brain meltdown?"

"Precisely." I nodded, even though I knew he couldn't see me.

"Alright. On my way."

"Save the television too! And…get me more information on Mrs. Fieldson and Mr. Littlegreen."

"I promise." Click.

Hanging up, I walked back upstairs, stretching my arms.

"Well?" Sebastian asked, appearing out of nowhere.

"I found out something interesting." I replied. "It seems the next victim was a man named Eugene Littlegreen. His wife is Molly Fieldson."

Sebastian rose an eyebrow and finally smirked, "You don't think?"

"It's the only thing. I believe Thomas Fieldson is our guy." I folded my arms. "But, when I say that, my gut says it's not true."

"Why's that?" Sebastian asked.

"I don't know. He was really upset when he heard his friend was dead. Well, first get some more information about the Fieldsons."

"Whatever you want."

"Then, let's get going."

(House)

"God, it's like crap." One cop commented, cleaning up the crusty, dried brain. I tried my hardest not to laugh but to be serious. "Anything, Hensley?"

"She won't tell us anything. Either make a risky accusation or wait until she's ready to speak."

"We don't have time for that!" I exclaimed. My lightbulb went off and I grinned evilly.

"I don't like that face." Hensley shuddered.

"Sebastian, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"No." He shook his head.

"Come on. Joke."

He suddenly widened his eyes and smirked.

"I'll give you a call once we're ready to take Thomas Fieldson in for questioning." I said to Hensley. Turning to Sebastian, I said, "Let's get going."

(Undertaker's Parlor)

"BWAHAHA~!" The Undertaker cackled, banging against his desk and tears falling from his unseen eyes. "THAT'S THE BEST ONE YET, BUTLER!"

"I don't even want to know what you said." I face palmed as Sebastian smiled innocently.

It took a couple minutes for Undertaker to finally calm down, take deep breaths before speaking. "Now, you wanted to know about the Fieldsons, correct~?"

"Yes." I answered.

"Well, perhaps revenge runs in the family."

"Revenge?"

"Yes. You see, that man that died is Thomas Fieldson's stepfather."

"His stepfather?" I asked.

"Mmm-hmm~. The woman is Thomas's mother. Real mother."

"Then, the lady at the original house?"

"Oh, that's Thomas's babysitter, Libby. She's not important. And realize who's out of the picture?"

"The real father."

"Hehehe~. Danny Fieldson. Best hurry along!" Undertaker giggled.

"Wait, how do you know them?" I asked curiously.

"Hahaha~! Their grandmother recently passed on and I had the honor of cleaning her up. That's how I know them."

"Lovely." I sighed. "Excuse us for interrupting, Undertaker. We'll be off."

"Anytime~! You and the butler are hilarious! Mostly, your butler!"

Sebastian closed the door. All the streets of London could her loud but yet muffled laughter.

"Why did I think of coming here? Well, get Hensley on the line." I ordered Sebastian. "Tell him to bring Thomas Fieldson in for questioning. We are going to see what he's not telling us."

(Police Station)

"So, tell us, why is your dad 'away'?" I asked.

Thomas was across from me, his hands fidgeting on the desk and squirming in his chair. Sebastian was watching us closely from behind a glass wall along with Hensley.

"Oh! Um, some business ta' do! Yeah." He scrunched up his nose.

"Oh? What kind?" I narrowed my eyes.

"Work! It's not ya business!" Thomas frowned.

"It is to the authorities." I said coolly. "How long has your father been out? At least tell me that much."

Thomas gulped, "December 15."

I nodded. "Okay." My orbs met Sebastian.

'How am I going to crack this kid?' I asked Sebastian.

'You have to be serious and firm, Aerith. Use a weakness of his.'

'Like what?! I'm not really good at cracking people.'

'Use his dead friend and then talk about his father.'

'You have gone to a level that is beyond a devil.'

I could hear him laugh in my mind. 'I am simply one hell of a butler.'

I turned back to Thomas. 'Here goes.' I thought.

"Thomas, tell me what you see here?" I took out an ugly yellow colored folder and holding up a large photo. The picture of his friend Jack Heaps, dead and covered in his own brain slime.

Thomas's eyes deceived the picture, almost trying not to throw up.

"Disgusting, yes." I commented. "But, who is it?"

"Tha'….tha' Jack Heaps." He said with a lump in his throat.

"Right. And your friend died because of…who again?"

Thomas stayed silent.

"Your father, correct?"

Silence.

"Did he or not?" I said sternly.

Thomas looked away.

"Thomas, I'm going to say this one more time. This man, your best friend died because of your father, right?!" I was practically yelling at him.

"That's impossible!" Thomas yelled.

"But, it's correct, isn't it?!"

The poor boy looked like he wanted to cry. "Stop!"

"Tell me!"

"I wan' a law'er!"

'Crap!' I cringed slightly and kept my mouth shut. Keeping the picture in front of him, I exited the questioning room. "See what you do to me?!" I exclaimed at Sebastian.

"Humans are so difficult. I didn't think he would act like this." Sebastian sighed.

"Now what, Phantomhive?" Hensley asked.

I looked at Thomas, at the verge of tears and his lips quivering. "I have an idea."

"Oh?" Sebastian tilted his head in curiosity.

"Hensley, wait five minutes then let him go."

"And your accusation?" Hensley asked.

"It's right. Just watch." I said.

(Five minutes later)

Sebastian and I observed Thomas reaching for a telephone, dialing a number.

"I wanna listen in to that conversation." I whispered to Hensley.

The cop nodded, fidgeting with a machine and handed me the receiver. I could hear two male voices.

"Sonny's Taxi Service, how may I help you?"

"I need a ride. I'm stuck here." Thomas answered.

"I see sir, where are you?"

"At the police station."

"So you're at London' Police Station?"

"Yes." Thomas said.

"Be right there."

Click. I handed the phone back to Hensley and gave a nod to Sebastian.

"Let's go. Hensley, can we borrow your car? And we need backup."

"What for? Don't you think he would know you're following him?" Hensley asked.

"He's sixteen." I said.

"So are you."

"That doesn't mean let your guard down."

"…Fair enough."

(Car)

"Who knew you knew how to drive?" I smiled, leaning back against the passenger seat.

"Almost like driving a carriage." Sebastian smirked.

"Lovely way for putting it."

Silence.

"Hey, Sebastian?"

"Hmm?"

"Is everything okay?"

"Of course."

"No. I mean, like with you?"

He looked at me with concern. "Why are you asking?"

"I don't know. You've been acting…odd."

"Would you believe me if I said yes?"

"Probably not." I smiled.

"I am fine." He gave a small smirk.

"What?"

"Nothing." He kissed my cheek and my cheeks became heated.

"Look! There he is!" I pointed to a yellow car, heading down a dark alley. "It's always a dark alley."

Sebastian stopped the car, turning off the headlights. "Let's go."

Creeping quietly, both of us followed Thomas as he got out of the car. I waved to the three police cars behind us, a signal to wait until further noticed. Thomas entered a gate, making sure no one was following him. Sebastian swiftly handed me my gun and I hurried to load it quietly.

"Okay." I said in a hushed tone, cocking the gun ready.

Sebastian nodded, both of us entering an abandoned building. Inside, the floors were dirty and the walls were full of wires, colored blue, red, green, and yellow.

"Dad?" Thomas's voice echoed throughout the building.

"Thomas?" A man's voice said.

"Stay here." I ordered Sebastian.

He suddenly kissed me and whispered, "Be careful."

Trying to focus, I crawled to a room, getting a glimpse at Thomas and his father.

"Dad! I-"

"No! They are after me, not you! Go!"

Without protest, Thomas dashed off past me, noticing me nor my weapon.

'Sebastian, Thomas is heading your direction. Stop him and I'll get his father.'

'Of course, Aerith.'

I stood up straight and held up my gun. However, no one was in my sight. 'Where did he go?'

I walked up to the different screens on the counter with the wires tangled like a jungle. Several of them were televisions, ready to be built.

'He builds the televisions and then implants them in the victim's houses.' I thought.

One screen was like a mirror, taking my every move. Like a camera, but moving. A revolver was put next to my head as I stared into the screen. My eyes looked at the gun and gulped.

"Come away…slowly." Mr. Fieldson said.

I turned in his direction, away from the screen and had the guts to look in his dark green eyes.

"So…yer here take me, huh?" His gruff voice gave me chills.

"I…uh." I stammered.

"Damn. I thought after I would hurt that girl, you would leave the case be. I saw your threat. Right there." He pointed to the screen I was looking at a few moments ago.

"Good." I spat.

He tensed his grip on the gun. "Don't push me, girl! I will pull it! But you know…I'm sick of this world…"

Without removing the gun to my head, he turned on one of the televisions. A little icon came on the screen, asking to change the channel.

"Mr. Fieldson, please step away from the television." I said.

"No. I'm going to see my creation. Don't stop me!" The man yelled, switching the knob.

Fast blurs on images came on the screen, moving at rapid pace. I couldn't tell what the picture was for it was moving too fast. My eyes looked away but kept them at Mr. Fieldson.

"Stop-" I approached Mr. Fieldson but he tightened his grip.

His eyes wouldn't blink, watching the screen closely. The screen went blank and-

BANG!

As if on call, Sebastian and Thomas ran in. The two men looked at Danny Fieldson, dead with the gun he threatened me with.

"You sho' him?!" Thomas yelled.

"No, I didn't!" I panicked. "He was watching the thing and-" Thomas ran out, not letting me finish. "After him!"

Sebastian and I dashed after the fleeing boy, heading towards the entrance. In the cold night air, we watched Thomas fall on the ground.

"Hands up!" Hensley yelled. "Get on your knees, boy."

Thomas did what he was said, Hensley picking him up roughly and handcuffing him. "You're coming with us."

"Ahem." I coughed on purposely and motioned Hensley to come closer to me. He leaned and I whispered to him about the dead body inside. He nodded, leading Thomas into his police car. Other officers ran inside to inspect the building.

"Well done, Phantomhive." Hensley commented as he closed the door to his car. "I commend you."

"Not easy but thank you." I grinned, panting slightly from the running. "I'll stay here until everything is done."

"If that's what you want." Hensley said and walked inside the building.

I sat on the front hood of the car, sighing of relief.

"I have a question." Sebastian said.

"Hmm?" I hummed.

"Why did Mr. Thomas keep it a secret? He knew, didn't he?"

I nodded, "He did."

"Why?"

Silence.

"Why? …Because it's his father."

Sebastian closed his eyes and gave a small smile. His eyes lit up in those demon silts, giving me chills. "Humans will kick each other down just to be king or queen. Yet they look forward for the sun at the top of the hill." He gave a laugh. "This is why I find humans so interesting."

I didn't say anything, only avoiding his glowing eyes and looked up to the sky. "This is what we are, Sebastian. I am one too. Society has gone downwards since the beginning of time. It's only when someone stops it."

(Several days later)

Headlines about our case spread faster than wildfire, everyone knowing the truth. All because of one man's revenge, it would end in disaster. Even cost your life.

"It's New Year's Eve!" I heard Anna in the hallway.

"I know! I can't it's been a year already!" Lillian replied.

"Hello, ladies." I greeted them.

"Oh!" Both of them seemed startled and bowed. "Hello!"

"Relax." I smiled. "I was just going to ask if you have seen Sebastian anywhere."

"Not since this morning, Milady." Anna frowned.

"Didn't he say he was going to be out for a while?" Lillian asked.

"Wasn't that tomorrow?" Anna asked.

"It's fine, haha. I was just wondering. I wonder what's happening…"

(Sebastian's POV)

"Let's get this meeting to order." I said.

"My, my, butler. What's going on? I was sure that you were gone the day Ciel Phantomhive died." Lau smirked. "Isn't that right, Ran-Mao?" The silent woman on the fifty year old man's lap gave a quiet nod.

I coughed, "Yes, well. On that subject-"

"On what subject, Bassie~? The day you and I get married~?" Grell winked.

"No." I rolled my eyes. "On behalf of the Phantomhives, I-"

"I want nothing to do with this." William sternly said, fixing his glasses.

"Yeah, butler!" Ronald folded his arms.

"Stop it!" Scar huffed.

"Everyone, please!" I coughed. "Now, about the Phantomhives…I'm afraid to say that there's been a fraud in the family.

"What?!" Everyone exclaimed.

"Yes, you see, Aerith Phantomhive is not the real heir to the family."

"But, the will said it, no?" Grell asked.

"Correct. However, when I checked it again, it was no longer her name."

"Why did you check it?" Scar asked.

I stayed silent. "More of the matter is that we must overthrow the fake and bring the real one."

"But…I can't do that to Little Red!" Grell frowned.

"It doesn't make sense." Ronald commented.

"Yes, quite. It seems that riches took her mind and betrayed her into the woman we know today." Lau said wise-like.

Silence.

"So, who's the girl?" Lau asked stupidly.

"You don't even know?!" Everyone yelled at Lau.

"Moral of the meeting, who's going to help with overthrowing Aerith Phantomhive and bringing the real heir?" I asked.

Silence thickened the air and pressure. Sure enough, everyone nodded.

"No one speaks of this to anyone. Not even Aerith or her aunt. That is all."

The reapers and Chinese people rose up, stretching and thankful of the meeting to be over. I turned away from them, heading back to the manor. I could feel my eyes turn into a devilish pink color with thin silts. I smiled coldly.

'The plan is working. Now, to rid of her…'
