Jacob trotted through the woods and snuffed lowly. This was his third patrol in a row and he could think of a hundred other things he could be doing, like taking a nap, or hanging out with Bella, or not be on patrol. He really shouldn't have placed Bella on his list. She was always with that undead boyfriend of hers. The thought of Bella's fucking leech made Jacob's blood boil. How could she just take him back like that? The bloodsucker breaks her heart and she went back to him like nothing ever happened, like he never even left. Man, he would just love to rip his dead, arrogant head off. He was the reason this vampire, Victoria, wanted to have Bella for dinner. The redheaded vampire bitch wasn't going to get passed them again. And now that there was a strange wolf roaming their land, Sam had everyone on high alert. Jacob and the rest of the pack had caught the scent but had only seen the wolf through Sam and Embry's heads. It was easy to tell it was a shifter. No wolf in existence looked like that. If it wasn't constantly crossing between there and the treaty line, they would've caught it by now.
Jacob's ears perked up as he caught the sound of approaching footsteps. Finally, some excitement. His claws dug into the earth as he ran, propelling him forward faster. He spotted someone running down a hill up ahead, too fast to be human. Vampire, he was sure of it, he could smell it. He jumped, growling as he reached her at the bottom of a hill and lunged.
Too easy.
Jacob sank his teeth into her side and blood filled his mouth. at first, Jacob assumed he'd bitten into the things stomach, thinking the monster probably just fed, but he realized the body was warm, really warm, and soft; the kill a little too easy. Jacob yelped in shock and released his captive as if she were on fire. Oh, god. He just attacked an innocent girl! She was human. The girl scrambled away and Jacob stared, frozen. The image of what he'd done rattled around his head and Jacob couldn't get his limbs to move. That was, until the girl stopped moving. Jacob shifted and shuddered at the feel of warm blood on his face, neck, and chest. He ran to the girl.
"No, no, no no!" fuck, there was a lot of blood. He could smell that she indeed was not a vampire, but he could smell one on her. Jacob pulled on the cut-offs tied to his leg and gathered the girl into his arms before beginning to run.
"I'm so sorry. Please, please don't die." she was still breathing, but it sounded like any one of them could be her last. The girl suddenly whimpered and her head rolled against his shoulder. "Stay with me, we're almost there."
Jacob didn't think he'd ever run so fast in his life. He ran through the trees until he finally spotted Sam's house in the distance after what felt like both seconds and hours. As soon as he was close enough he screamed.
"SAM! SAM, HELP!"
Sam appeared almost immediately, the rest of the pack and Emily spilling out behind him and Jacob thought he could kiss him. As soon as Sam saw him, covered in blood with an unconscious, bleeding girl in his arms, his eyes widened. "Get her inside, now!" Jacob followed him into the house and onto the couch where he carefully laid her down.
"Holy shit Jake! What the fuck?" Leah exclaimed.
"Not now Leah." Sam snapped. "What happened?" he asked, falling into alpha mode.
"I- I didn't mean to. I swear Sam, I- I just-shit!" Jacob ran his hands over his cropped hair. He was going to hell in a first class seat with his name on it. If she died he'd be a murderer. He would have taken this girl's life. She was beautiful, even in this state, long black hair, soft features, and full lips. Hell, her body was phenomenal, and he'd tear her open like it was nothing. He didn't even know her name.
"Calm down, Jake. What happened?" Sam ripped open the girl's jacket. The white material of her shirt was stained with blood and her side looked totally mauled, he could even see a bit of white among the red. Jacob wasn't worried about the cops; it was clearly an animal's attack but what of the aftermath? He would never be able to live with himself. Sam pressed a towel against her side, trying to staunch the bleeding.
"I was on patrol when I saw her running. She was fast Sam, like, vampire fast, so I attacked. I thought she was one 'cause of the smell, but she's not. I didn't know what to do Sam."
The girl groaned and her eyelids fluttered open. Jacob's breath caught in his throat as he saw the bright green eyes filled with pain he had caused. Sam leaned forward. "Can you hear me? Don't try and move, you're hurt. We need to get you to the hospital."
"No," she gasped, struggling for breath. "No . . . please, my . . . brother . . . Cullen's." her eyes rolled and she coughed, blood rising to her lips. Sam swore and picked her up, heading outside. He headed for his truck and jumped into the back, laying her out carefully. Jacob followed after him. "Hold this here, keep pressure on it." Sam entered the driver's seat and Paul followed, sliding into the passenger seat. Jared and Quil jumped into the back just as Sam began pulling out of the drive. Not only was Sam's truck brand-fucking-new, it was fast, and Jacob prayed the girl hung on just a little while longer.
As they pulled up to the large white house, Jacob jumped out of the truck and picked up the girl as the others gathered around him and Sam walked across the lawn. The girl in Jacobs's arms stirred slightly and he looked down to see her blinking blearily. He looked up and saw the doctor appear on the lawn.
"She told us to come to you." Sam said as Carlisle laid eyes on Jacob and the girl. Before Jacob could blink, Carlisle was in front of him, pulling the girl from his arms and disappeared into the house. Jacob paced anxiously, hoping the girl didn't die.
"Jake?"
He looked up and saw Bella walking down the porch steps, her leech following behind her. Edward glared at him and if he hadn't just attacked and possibly killed someone Jacob would've thought of something clever and insulting to say.
"You attacked her?!"
"Stay the fuck out of my head."
Bella looked at him with wide eyes. "You attacked Anala?"
Anala. Her name was Anala. "It was an accident."
Edward suddenly whirled around just as a large pale blur suddenly exited the house and Jacob suddenly found himself on the ground with a huge snarling vampire above him. Bella screamed. The air trembled as Sam, Paul and Jared shifted and Jacob could feel the familiar fire building, threatening to tear him apart. His limbs shook and he growled.
"Emmett, stop!"
Emmett was suddenly pulled off him and Jacob saw him and Edward twisting and colliding on the grass. Emmett kept trying to get to him but Edward was there, blocking him. Jacob never thought he'd see the day Edward Cullen would willingly stop his brother from trying to kill a werewolf. The blonde, the doctor's wife, and the little one appeared. Edward shoved Emmett back. "Get Emmett out of here!"
Blondie went to him but Emmett growled in warning. He glared at Jacob and Jacob growled through clenched teeth, trying hard not to shift and rip him to shreds. Emmett disappeared back into the house and Edward turned to Sam. "That won't be necessary Sam."
Sam growled lowly and Edward stood rigidly as Bella scurried to his side. "The treaty was not violated. Emmett had every right! Jacob attacked his mate."
Not only had he attacked a human girl, or at least she seemed human (running at vampire speeds wasn't exactly a human thing) but she was a vampire's mate. Fucking great.
