The power of imagination ch 21

Chapter 21: deeper into the dark.

When Jamie and Raven came through the portal, supporting an injured Jena between them the Guardians didn't waste anytime rushing her to the infirmary.

"What happened?" North questioned the two as they laid Jena on a bed.

"Pitch came out of no where and shot her with an arrow." Raven said.

"She's hurt bad," Bunny said, placing a paw against her forehead, "she's already got a fever mate."

"What do we do North?" Tooth asked. All eyes turned to the Guardian of wonder.

"I don't know." He said dejectedly, tears forming in the corners of his eyes.

"I could help." Eve said, coming in with Amor, "I used to be a healer before I was turned into a fearling." Jack was about to say something when Jamie placed a hand on his shoulder.

"What could it hurt?" He asked through a heart broken smile. Eve nodded and began her work.

"I'll need you to hold her down for this part." She told them. Everyone helped to hold Jena as Eve pulled the arrow out. Jena screamed in pain and thrashed for a moment before going so still that if the Guardians couldn't see her breathing slightly they would have thought she was dead. Eve kept working, placing her hands around the wound she let her new spiritual instincts take over. Her hands started to glow and as they did the wound closed and healed over, leaving only a scar. The Guardians waited for Jena to wake up, but after several minutes they began to worry.

"Why isn't she waking up?" Jack whispered to Eve.

"Sometimes it takes a while to restore energy after a wound like that." She whispered back.

"How long?"

"Hard to say, it could take a short time or it could take a year. The best thing to do is let her rest." Eve answered sadly, taking hold of Amor's hand. Everyone filed out of the room. Everyone, except Jamie that is. He stood next to Jena's bed and gently took her hand. She felt cold, almost lifeless, but she twitched when he'd touched her so at least she was still alive.

"Jena, can you hear me?" He whispered, she didn't react, "If you can, I wanted to let you know that I love you and I'm sorry for everything that's happened to you. I'm sorry that I couldn't stop Pitch's arrow…" his voice broke as he choked back tears, "and I'm sorry I didn't tell you I loved you sooner."

Jena was as still as a statue. A yeti came in and patted Jamie sympathetically on the shoulder.

"Thanks Phil." Jamie smiled half-heartedly at the yeti. Phil said something in Yeti that Jamie couldn't understand, and motioned to the door.

"Lead the way." Jamie said, but quickly turned back to Jena and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"I love you." He whispered before following Phil out the door.

Raven had a funny feeling. Not a funny feeling as in something fun funny but something funny as in something was wrong. But she couldn't name it. She sat on one of the rafters above where the Guardians where waking up the children. She watched them as she gently stroked her pet raven, Night.

"You ok?" Amora asked, flying up behind her.

"I'm not sure." Raven said.

"I know how your feeling, it's like there's something wrong with all the happiness going on right now." Amora sat down next to Raven.

"Yeah." Raven nodded. The two friends sat in silence as they watched the spirits and mortals below them. Raven noticed a lone nightmare suddenly race up from one child and as it passed Raven removed its fear, turning it into dreamsand once more. Raven felt the fear course through her before everything around her seemed to darken momentarily.

"Raven, are you feeling alright?" Amora asked.

"Actually I'm feeling better now." Raven smiled, hiding the malicious glint in her eye.

Out in the globe room everyone was helping to wake the children. The process went something like this, when someone managed to wake up a child they quickly told them that this was a dream, they would be given hot chocolate (unless they asked for something else), and calmed down by one of the Guardians or yetis and entertained by the actually helping elves until they where teleported back to their proper home.

"Scorpio, Jack, could you help me with this one?" Joy called as she woke up Sophie. Sophie blinked her eyes open slowly, Sabrina purring at her side as she looked at the two figures above her.

"Where am I?" She asked.

"The North Pole, dear. I'm Joy North and this is Jack Frost and Scorpio." Joy said, offering her a cup of hot chocolate.

"Thank you, where's Scorpio?" Sophie asked. Jamie was sad that Sophie couldn't see him but Jack was about to change that.

"He's right here, he's got shaggy brown hair, gold eyes and is a bit shorter than me." Jack described. Sophie blinked as he came into view.

"Scorpio? That's a cool name." She said, taking a sip of her hot chocolate.

"Thanks, the Man in the Moon gave it to me. I had another name once, do you want to know what it is?" He asked, kneeling down so they where eye level with each other.

"Yeah!" Sophie said, there was something familiar about this boy but she couldn't tell what.

"My other name is Jamie Bennett." He told her calmly.

At first Sophie just blinked in disbelief, then she finally asked him "Jamie? Is it really you?"

"Yeah Soph, it's me." He said smiling at her. Tears fell down both of their faces as the siblings embraced in a long heartfelt hug.

"Jamie! I've missed you so much! Mom and Dad miss you too and… and… and… I wish you didn't leave!" Sophie sobbed into Jamie's shoulder.

"It's ok, I'm here now. Sh, don't cry." He smoothed her hair. He rocked her back and forth until she stopped crying.

"I've missed you so much." Sophie sighed as she sat back.

"I've missed you too." Jamie told her.

"Why haven't you come to visit then?" Sophie pouted.

"I've been a little busy." Jamie said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Doing what?" She asked curiously. So Jamie told Sophie what had happened since he had become a spirit. At the end Sophie wanted to go see Jena, and Jamie obliged. When Sophie saw Jena lying as still as a statue she thought she was dead.

"Why won't she wake up?" Sophie whispered to Jamie.

"I don't know." Jamie said, turning away to look out the window. Sophie walked over and stood next to Jena.

"Jena, it's Sophie, when are you going to wake up?" Sophie whispered to her. A crash from outside drew the siblings attention to the door.

"Stay here." Jamie ordered before stepping out into the hall. Sophie moved to follow after him but something caught her wrist. She looked down and saw Jena holding her hand. She still looked asleep but then how had she known where Sophie's arm was?

"Jena?" Sophie turned back to her.

"S-t-a-y…" Jena's voice was weak and halting, hardly more than a whisper, but Sophie heard her.

"Are you awake now?" Sophie asked excitedly.

"A l-little." It was like trying to talk took all of her energy. Shouting and running in the hall made the little blonde look back at the door. She untangled Jena's loose grip from her hand, she walked over to the door, opened it a crack and looked out at the battle going on outside. She saw a girl with blackish-purple hair sending a wave of nightmares at the Guardians and other spirits. Quickly shutting the door Sophie raced back to the bed.

"Jena! You need to wake up, The Guardians need you." She said, shaking Jena's shoulders. Jena's eyes opened for a moment before closing again.

"Can't… to… tired." Jena didn't say anything else after that.

"Raven! Stop this!" North shouted as the girl sent yet another wave of nightmares at them. She ignored him and with a crazed cackle broke through the windows behind her, allowing the gusting northern wind to cause more chaos. Once all the nightmares where finished off and the Yetis had miraculously repaired the windows, the spirits gathered in a group.

"What happened?" Jack asked the question that was on everyone's mind.

"I don't know." North said, shaking his head, "I just don't know.

Pitch was wandering cluelessly through his own palace when the Piper found him. Piper was fading, his task he had been summoned by Pitch was done and now he was returning to his book.

"Pitch, what's the matter with you?" He asked, his voice echoing around the hall. Pitch looked at him with a dazed expression, not answering. Piper shrugged before walking away, stopping as Raven flew through the room.

"Pitch," she said, giving him a bone crushing hug. As they touched some of the fear from her transferred back to Pitch, allowing the fearlings to take control once more.

"Raven?" Pitch said, a bit surprised to see her hugging him.

"You where right, I am feared and now I'll embrace the fear." She smiled up at him, her eyes where closer to his grey gold now instead of pure gold.

"Do you still feel fear?" He asked her.

"A little." she admitted.

"Then let put one of your fears to rest." Pitch said as he stroked her hair and kissed her gently on her forehead.

"I like you too." He whispered in her ear.

"Jamie! Jena woke up!" Sophie said as she ran to her brother when he came to check on her.

"She's awake!" He exclaimed as he looked over at Jena.

"She woke up for a minute, but she's asleep now." Sophie explained. Jamie walked over to Jena and moved some of her hair out of her face.

"Jamie?" Sophie asked, as Bunny came up behind her and picked her up.

"Let's leave those two alone for a moment." He said as he carried Sophie out to the globe room. When Jamie was gone he allowed himself to let a few tears fall from his eyes.

"I'll find a way to wake you up. I promise. I love you." He whispered as he leaned down and gave her a kiss. Jena seemed to move for a moment, gently returning his kiss. Surprised Jamie stood up, looking at her. Her mouth moved and Jamie could barely hear the words she said.

"I love you too."
