A/N- This is a short chapter but it shows one of the scenes from the end of series 5. I hope this is a good explanation of why Arthur's death is announced.
Chapter 21 – The King is Dead
Gwen woke and found herself lying on her bed, propped up with pillows, Gaius was sitting next to her.
"What happened?" she asked, she tried to sit up but felt light headed.
"You fainted, Gwen," Gaius said, "But you'll be fine you just need some rest."
She tried to sit up again more slowly this time and the faintness passed. She doesn't remember passing out and wondered why she would do such a thing.
"But I never faint..." the news of Arthur's death came back to her and eyes filled with tears, "He's dead Gaius... and Merlin..." she broke down and sobbed uncontrollably, no longer able to hide her grief. Gaius comforted her as best he could but his heart was broken he too loved Arthur and Merlin was like a son to him, he still can't believe they are gone.
"What will we do without them?" she asked, Gaius didn't know so he kept quiet. There was a knock at the door, Gwen dried her eyes and composed herself as best she could.
"Enter," she said. Leon opened the door but did not enter the room. Gaius stood and walked towards him.
"She is fine Leon," Gaius said, "Just overcome with grief and tiredness." Leon nodded and walked further into the room.
"My lady, your coronation is at noon, if you are feeling well enough."
Gwen smiled at him, "I will be fine, we must carry on for the sake of the people," she said and sighed.
"I will leave you to prepare, my lady," Leon said turning to leave as Rose, Gwen's maidservant, entered the room with a bowl of hot water.
"I have to return to the infirmary, my Lady but send word if you need me," Gaius said as he turned and left with Leon.
Gwen sat on the throne, she felt like she was miles away. As Leon announced Arthur's death, she struggled with her tears. She knew she must be strong but she felt so empty without Arthur and she had lost her best friend as well.
Don't forget to leave feedback I want to hear from you even if you didn't like it.
