Ch 21: Lock her up

After Ana and Christian arrived back into Seattle, they went to the hospital to check in to see how Jose was doing. Ana was told by her brother, that he wasn't out of the woods yet, but he was responding to treatment. Ross had ran into the runaway couple at the hospital and told them they should turn themselves in before the police found them. Christian though went to look for Ruth instead.

Ana went to the station and had a run in with Grace. Ana let her mother in law know that she wasn't going to get away with setting her up for the murder of Ben. Ana blasted Grace saying that this was all her fault and blamed her for Christian shooting Jose. Christian showed up at the station worried about his wife turning herself in and saw his mother. Grace tried to make peace with him, but he turned his back on her. She left the station but told Christian she was always there for him.

The DA wanted David to arrest the couple saying they had no proof of Grace's guilt, but, Christian let her know that there was phone records to prove his mother and Ruth had communication between them. She asked him to get them for her as Ana wanted to know if that would make a difference in their case. The DA gave the couple forty-eight hours and then Ana would be taken into custody again.

Later, Ana had went on the hunt for Ruth while Christian went to his mother's to see if he could get any information out of her. Meanwhile Ana had another run in with her biological mother, Carla. She wanted to help Ana, but Ana rebuffed her. Rick told carla to leave his sister alone and Christian showed up at Towers as well.

The two talked about Carla and he asked Ana if she wanted a relationship with her but she told him no, as she had too much on her plate already. The two went back to the hospital after Ana had called earlier to check in on Jose. She was told by a nurse he was in good spirits and now talking.

Once they showed up at the hospital, Ana overheard Jose wanting to call her so that way she could make amends with Kate. Jose insisted that they talk and get things worked out. Ana thought Jose put Kate up to it and thought she didn't want to work things out. Eventually the two made up, Ana wanted to go back into Jose's room and find out what they guys were up to as kate needed a drink of water and get herself together after their emotional reunion.

Kate had spied on the TV in the waiting room that Ruth had been arrested for leaving her son home alone while she went to work. She went into the room letting the duo know, as they left on the search for Ruth at the station.

"Oh no, I think we're too late! I don't see her," Ana told Christian as they walked all over looking for her.

Christian walked over to a police man who was doing paperwork at his desk. "Hello, we're looking for Ruth Lockhart, we heard she was brought in for questioning," Christian stated.

"Yes, she was here and now she's gone," he told Christian.

"Ugh!" Ana signed out. "Damn it! Why does this keep happening to us? We get so close and them bam she disappeared from us again."

"She won't get far, wait right here," Christian told his wife.

"Christian...wait….I…." but he left the room. He went to look for Frank thinking maybe he could help them. But Ana had another idea. She spied another young looking cop and decided to use her charm on him.

"Hello, I'm Melissa Keely and I'm a reporter from the WSPR and I'd like to ask you a few questions about Ruth Lockhart. Another reporter was told earlier than someone had bailed her out, but she didn't get the name of the person. Could you do me a favor and find out who?" she asked, batting her eyelashes to him. "I'd really appreciate it," she told him, playing with the buttons on his uniform.

"Not a problem, let me just check the paperwork," he replied back. He wrote a name down and handed it to Ana.

"Thank you," she told him as she looked at the name. Whoa, she wasn't expecting that at all. He looked concerned.

"Is anything wrong?" he asked her smiling at her.

"No, it's good. Thank you for your help, I really do appreciate it," she replied, smiling back.

"Listen, I get off duty soon, could we maybe grab a cup of coffee later?" he asked Ana out.

"Ummm…" she was about to reply, when Christian came up behind her. "Ana?" he asked, as she turned towards her husband, as Christian spied the young cop looking back at his wife like she was a piece of meat.

"Excuse me, I thought you said your name was Melissa?" the young cop asked.

Christian saw the look on the young cops face as his smile wavered. He glared back at the young cop saying, "This is my wife. Do you mind?"

"Hmmm, looks like I been had," he mumbled, walking away.

"What the hell was that about?" Christian growled out at his wife. "Was he coming on to you?"

"Yeah a little bit, but to his defense, I kind of came on to him, only to get information," she said really fast.

"Oh?" he asked, as he calmed himself a bit. "Did you find out where Ruth was?"

"Not exactly. But, I did find out who bailed her out," she replied to him.

"Who?"

"Rebecca Lewis," she told him smiling, then they left to head to the Lewis home.

Rebecca had bailed Ruth out of jail when she learned of Ruth's predicament. She felt sorry for the woman who was determined to make a life for herself and her son. In fact Ruth was hiding out at Rebecca's home hoping she could get her son back as soon as possible. They arrived at the Lewis's hoping to convince her to tell the truth.

"Hey you two!" Rebecca answered the door to Ana and Christian, who barged in. They walked in further and saw Ruth.

"Ruth!" Christian said out loud. "Just the person we've been looking for. Your coming with me," he told her.

"You stay away from me!" Ruth shouted back in anger as she was sacred. She hid behind Paul not wanting to see the Greys.

"Take it easy Christian…" Paul stated to him.

"I don't know what you think you're doing barging in my home like this," Rebecca started saying, "maybe you should explain what you're doing here."

Christian angrily glared back at Rebecca saying, "Why don't you explain why your hiding this woman who lied on the witness stand against Ana?"

"What are you talking about?" she asked Christian.

"This woman...was paid off by my mother to nail my wife for Ben's murder," he yelled to her. "She was the one who gave false testimony on the witness in Ana's trial."

Rebecca looked back at Ruth. "Is that true?"

"Yes I was a witness on a trial, I gave my testimony to the police," Ruth answered.

"Oh come on! You lied just admit!" Christian yelled.

"Will you please calm down?" Paul asked Christian.

"No! I won't calm down. This woman…" Christian started yelling again.

"Honey," Ana began trying to get her husband to calm down. "Please calm down...let me do this okay?" she asked as he nodded to her. Ana turned to Paul and Rebecca. "Look, Rebecca, I know that your only trying to help Ruth with her son, but, she did give false testimony telling them I was at the scene of the crime when I wasn't. I have been to hell and back because of this. I have less than twenty four hours to make sure she comes forward and recants her testimony or I will get the death penalty. That's how serious this is."

Rebecca nodded her head. "I understand. But, can I please ask you both to give me time to talk to her. I will have her go to the DA office in the morning, first thing. Please, just let me talk with her," she told them both.

"Fine," Christian stated. "Just make sure she makes it tomorrow for sure."

"I will," she told them. Ana and Christian left the Lewis home.

Rebecca went to Ruth. "Can I talk to your for a moment?" she asked Ruth as they sat down on the couch. "I know your scared for your son. I know what it's like to be away from your child. But, if what Ana is saying is true, then you have to do the right thing."

"I ...I...can't," Ruth mumbled. "You don't understand."

"Do you believe in God? Because I do. I know that we get into rather precarious situations sometimes, but, he always gets us through. I don't think it was a mistake that you and I came across each other. Please, if you can help Ana...I've known her all her life. She's a great person and could never kill someone in cold blood. If you could help her, I beg of you to do so," Rebecca pleaded to her.

"You don't understand...they will get my son. The mob...they will kill him and me…" she started saying.

"No, they won't be able to come near you. You have me now and I'm pretty tight with Frank. They could help you. You just have to go to the DA and tell them what you truly know. Will you do that for me?"

Ruth looked back at Rebecca. "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry!" she began crying. Rebecca continued to sooth Ruth as held her the woman in her arms. She knew Ruth would do the right thing.

The next day, Ana and Christian arrived at the police station. Ruth still hadn't spoken to the DA and they were getting nervous. Ross showed up as he talked with the couple. He let them know he just got off the phone with the Doris and said that if Ruth doesn't show up they have no choice but to lock Ana up.

"Ross, you don't understand. I can't go back there. You have to help me," Ana pleaded with her lawyer.

"I'm doing everything I can Ana, you have to believe me," he told her.

David and Frank came into the room where they were in. "It's time," David said to them.

"Please Frank, I...we...need more time."

"We can't Ana. I'm sorry," he told the couple.

"Can you please give us a moment?" Christian asked them. They all left the room leaving the couple.

Ana turned to her husband saying, "I can't go back in there, Christian"

"Honey, it's not going to be for long, I promise," he told her.

She pulled away from her husband as the tears started stinging her eyes. "This can't be happening...it just can't be happening…"

He went to his wife as he pulled her into his arms. "Ana, what is going on? Talk to me. That's how this works right?"

She looked him in the eyes. "I think I might be pregnant."

He looked back into her blue eyes. "Really? Why didn't you tell me earlier."

"I don't know. I'm not sure as I haven't taken a test, but I'm a few days late. It could be the stress of all of this too."

"Okay. Well, once this whole thing is over we will test okay. Just take a few deep breaths sweetie. I promise you, I will get you out of here."

The two of them hugged each other as David opened the door. They took Ana into custody again and into a holding cell. Ana leaned onto the cool bars as she thought about the possibility that she could be pregnant.

Christian and I waited so long to have a family. I can't be locked up again. This baby deserves so much more than that.

Soon Christian was at the station. He had gotten a call from Frank for to come to the station. While he was sitting in the chair he thought about what Ana had told him.

I couldn't believe that Ana may be pregnant. We waited so long to finally have a family. Please God, allow that to happen, so we can be free to have a family that we wanted.

Frank broke him out of his thoughts. "Christian, I need you to come with me please." He got up and followed Frank. He began to open the doors for Christian as he led him to Ana's holding cell. "Go get your wife. She's free," he told him.

"What? Really?" Christian asked him again. Frank told him that Ruth finally went to the DA and recanted her statement against Ana. He went inside the cell as he went to her.

Ana was asleep when Christian went to her kiss her on the lips, waking her up.

"Hey, baby," he told her.

"Hi. What are you doing here?" she asked barely awake.

"Your free baby. Your finally free!" he told her giving her another kiss. "Come, let's get out of here," he told her.

The two of them walked out of the holding cell together as she couldn't believe it. Ana was finally vindicated of Ben's murder. Once they walked out of the station they headed towards the Grey estate. Christian had another surprise for Ana.

"Why are we going to the Grey estate?"

"Well, baby, it's finally happened! That's why," he told her.

Mia was already at their mother's home. She was there as Christian asked for her to be there when it all went down. It turned out that Grace had planned to leave the country and never come back. Only she wasn't going to make it.

"Mother, you can't do this!" Mia told her mother.

"I can and will. No one is going to keep me from leaving," Grace told Mia as she headed towards the door. Only Christian arrived.

"Your not going anywhere Grace. I've canceled your helicopter, you won't be needing it. Ruth Lockhart just made her statement to the police," he told her.

Grace looked back at her son saying, "Your bluffing. Your bluffing just like Vanessa."

"Honey," Christian called for Ana as she appeared beside her husband.

"Hello Grace. I waited a very long time for this moment. I just couldn't wait to say what I'd like to say to you, only there isn't anything I could say that would make this moment even better. It's over for you." Ana told her.

"Your out of our lives for good," Christian told his mother.

"So you see mother," Mia started saying. "The police know everything."

Grace turned to her daughter. "Do they baby? Do they really? Do they know I was only trying to protect you?"

"Saved it Grace!" Ethan came from behind the door and went to Mia to comfort her. "Don't listen to her Mia. She's only trying to save herself." He rubbed her shoulders, trying to sooth her.

"You know I would never do anything to harm you Mia. You were there, you know what happened." Grace told her daughter in as much of a motherly tone she could manage. "The only thing I'm guilty of is loving my family and trying to protect you."

Christian had enough from his mother. "Save it mother! We all know what you did. You set up Ana to take the fall for you. Don't bother trying to manipulate yourself out of this, it won't work," his voice was harsh.

"Really, Christian? How can you sit in judgement on me? I did what I had to do to keep this family afloat. You walked away so I had to step in. I was ready for you share this with with me, to take over, but no, you turned your back on your own family all because of her," Grace told her son. He stared back at his mother as she ranted.

Ana saw the look in her husband's eyes, he was starting to believe what Grace was telling him, she knew she had to do something. Ana got in front of her husband, as she looked him in the eyes.

"Honey," she said, trying to get his attention. He still looked back at Grace. "Christian, please look at me," Ana said to him gently. He finally broke his stare long enough to break the spell his mother had him in as he looked into his wifes blue eyes. "Don't let her do this to you. You deserve better than this."

Frank came walking in with David. "Mrs. Grey, you're under arrest," Frank began telling Grace as he handcuffed her. He continued saying her rights to her. She kept looking back at her son, hoping he would say it was all a mistake. But he didn't. David took a hold of Grace's arm as he led her out of the house into the squad car.

Ana took Christian into her arms as she comforted her husband. She couldn't imagine what he was feeling right now. No one would have wanted this for their parent. But Grace did so many horrible things that it was unavoidable.

Christian held his wife in his arms, thankful he could finally do that again. He hated all of this, he wished for the first time in his life that they could be a normal family. But no, it was really happening. They were taking Grace to jail.

"This is really happening," he whispered in her ear. "That's my mother being taken to jail and I don't feel a thing."

An hour later, Christian, Ana, Mia and Ethan were still in the Grey mansion. Christian had gotten a phone call from Frank. He told all of them they were still in the process of booking Grace.

"Still?" Ana asked him.

"Honey, you and I both know how long that could take. Just sit tight and it will all be done soon."

"What will happen next?" Mia asked her brother.

"Hopefully they'll lock her up and throw away the key. Its over Mia. She can't hurt us anymore."

"I wouldn't be so sure of that," Ana mumbled.

"What?" Christian asked. "Why do you say that?"

"Because...I'm just concerned. The judge still has to overturn my conviction. What if Grace was able to get to him?"

Christian grabbed his wife and held onto her. "Baby, you have to think positive. Grace will be going to prison for a very long time."

Ana sighed to her husband as she pulled away from him. "I know...it's just that we've waited so long for this to happen and for it to happen just like that…"

"It's not just like that. Ana, we've been through hell and back. Ruth did what we needed her to do. She gave her testimony telling them that Grace bribed her…"

"And my mother gave her testimony…" Ethan chimed in.

"Me as well," Mia told Ana.

"Baby, you have to think good thoughts. Grace will never hurt either of us again, okay?" he asked her, pulling Ana into his arms again. He looked down at her, his hand on her neck as he held it in place. "I promise you, she will never hurt you again. I love you."

She looked back into her husband's eyes, "I love you too. So much," she whispered back. They shared a gentle kiss.

Ethan and Mia looked at each other. He gave her a wink as well. The two recently got back together again after everything that had happened. But she wanted to take it slow. She wanted to enjoy being in love. Ethan confessed his love to her when she was in the psych ward.

"I can't wait to go back to school and finish our house…" Ana told Christian.

"You will and we will. After this we can and will continue the rest of our lives together." He was holding her again and then whispered in her ear, "and perhaps it will be the three of us," as he kissed her ear. Ana giggled with the thought of maybe being pregnant.

"You're absolutely right. We have so much to look forward to." Ana told him.

Christian were looking back at his sister. "Are you okay, Mia?"

"I will be once this whole thing is done. We still need to call grandmother and let her know what is going on." Mia stated.

Their grandmother Elizabeth had went to stay with family members in California while this trial took place. They thought it would be better if she stayed away.

"That's true. She can't continue living here in this house by herself. Are you planning to stay here?"

"Are you kidding me?" Mia asked. "I hate this house!"

"I second that," Ethan chimed in as well as Ana, "Yeah, I'll agree with them."

"So once mother is convicted what shall we do with this house?" Christian asked them.

"Burn it with everything in it," Mia suggested. "Especially that hideous painting on the mantle. I have always hated that thing," she pointed out.

Ana and Ethan got it down as Mia went over and started kicking at it. She was able to break through and tore it down. Then she continued taking pictures down from the mantle and breaking each frame.

"Did that feel good?" Christian asked.

"It did, it's your turn now. Go ahead, break something," Mia suggested to her brother.

Christian looked to the right of himself at the drinking tray. "I have always hated this thing right here. Grace would fix herself a drink and toast to a victory, she caused on someone else's misery." He grabbed the bottles and began breaking them one by one.

"That felt amazing. Honey, you should try. Go ahead, break something, you've earned it." He told Ana looking at her.

Ana loved the idea however; she wanted to do something even better. "Well, to be honest, I've always thought this house was way too dark and creepy."

"Mother liked it that way," Mia said to her sister in law.

"True but she isn't here anymore. I've always wanted to let the light in…" she went to the window that was covered in drapes. Ana pulled them back to bring in the sunlight. Mia helped her. "That's so much better!"

Christian was watching his wife, sister and Ethan as they pulled the curtains back to their old life. Ana looked back at her husband as she breathed a big sigh of relief.

"Is that better?" he asked her.

"Much," she told him.

Christian just beamed with happiness as he looked at the three of them. His wife, sister and his sister Mia's boyfriend. They were going to be a family.

"Wow! I'm so proud of you all," Christian stated to them. Ethan had both girls in front of him as he had his hand on their shoulders. "Look at us, we're finally a family we can be proud of. I just wanted to you all to know, how very much I love you guys." They asked him to come over as they had a group hug.

"So, have we decided what we're going to do with this place?" Ana asked them later.

Christian looked back at his wife. They had been spending the time packing away things they wanted to take.

"I had an idea. How about we donate it? I'm sure there is a charity out there that could use a place like this," he told Ana.

"You know...I like the sound of that," Ana answered as Mia chimed is as well.

"Me too. Do you have any ideas?" Mia asked Ana.

"I do actually. The hospital where my brother works, they have a charity they always sponsor, it's called 'Coping Together'. They help children in between foster care and foster homes."

Christian smiled at that idea. "I love that idea. Mia what do you think?"

"Yes. That's perfect," she told him.

"Okay, that's settled then." Christian stated. "You guys ready to go?"

They all nodded to him as each of them grabbed some boxes. Christian was the last one as he grabbed a box and before leaving the living room where they had done business, he looked at the desk where his mother did her dirty dealings.

"So long mother," he stated. He left out of the house, turning the lights off to their dark world and into the light.
