Lapis was left alone at the house, again. Steven is with Greg on a road trip and the are out looking for Jasper. Garnet told them that she saw Jasper doing a bad thing to the baby, so, they went out to find her as quick as possible. Peridot didn't want to leave Lapis alone because the baby could come at any moment, but Garnet said that they needed her.
Lapis is passing around the house, she wants to swim, but it is raining outside and she doesn't want to get sick again now that she is pregnant.
"Well, it is raining sweetheart, so, we can't swim today. We are alone here again doing nothing interesting." Lapis sits on the sofa. "You know I am really excited to meet you. Garnet and Peri said that you are going to be here in a week or maximum two. I am wondering if you are gonna be a boy or a girl, but that doesn't matter. I am gonna love you anyway." She places her hand on her swollen abdomen. The kid is moving a lot that day, but she did not worry about it.
Lapis stands up and walks to her room, which is full of baby's stuff. Clothes, a crib, bottles, pacifiers and some toys. She hold a cute cloth, it was red and with yellow stars.
"It is so cute." She says, feeling the baby move a little stronger than the other times. "Do you think that too?"
"Little one, we are gonna eat something. I think that we need some food." She gets out of the room. "That is the thing about being alone, you walk away and come to the same place for a few times."
She walks towards the fridge, but she stops abruptly when she suddenly she feels an excruciating pain in her belly and clutched it protectively. "Not now…" She trembles, leaning to the wall "It's too soon… I can't do it right now…" She feels twinges going through her abdomen again, immobilizing her. "I am not ready."
Lapis sits on the floor with her hand on her swollen belly, she breaths in and out to calm down herself. She is worried about that and she is alone at the house. She needs Peridot, right now.
"Please, Peri, wherever you are, come home now. Please…"
One hour later, the warp pad glows and the gems show up.
"Hey, Lapis. I am home." Peridot shouts.
No answer, but she listens to some breathing coming from the kitchen.
"Lapis?" Peridot calls the gem, who is found sit on the floor.
"P- Peri." She tries to smile, but she feels a contraction, gritting her teeth in the process.
Peridot kneels next to her love and places her hand on Lapis's cheek, understanding the situation. "I am sorry, Lapis. I knew I shouldn't leave you alone. I am sorry. But, now, I am here and everything is going to be okay. Continue breathing in and out like you are doing." Peridot kisses Lapis's cheek.
"Don't make a fuss about it." Lapis says underneath her breath.
Peridot stands up and picks Lapis up in bridal style, as gently as she could to not hurt Lapis and the baby.
The others were listening to Peridot's voice and understood the situation.
Lapis is in labor.
"Guys, it is time." The technician walks upstairs.
"We are ready."
"Take towels and warm water, Amethyst." Pearl tells the quartz, while taking two pairs of gloves from her gem and giving one of them to Garnet.
"I guess the eggshell has already broken. So, she is going to have to push in a few minutes." Peridot places Lapis on Steven's bed. "Are you ready?" She sits next to Lapis's body.
"No." Lapis almost cries when she feels another contraction.
"Lapis, I know you can do it. You are strong. You are my Lapis Lazuli." Peridot kisses Lapis on her forehead.
"Well, I guess that we are ready. Are you, Lapis?" Pearl looks at the gem.
Lapis looks at Peridot one more time and then nods in agreement.
Everybody is worried because it is still soon to the baby to be born and Peridot will not forgive herself if something happens with Lapis or the baby.
"Alright. I am going to say push and you are going to do that." Pearl tells the ocean gem.
Peridot removes her limb hands enhancers. "Here. Take my hand."
Lapis looks at her wife and holds her hand.
"Okay Lapis, now with all your might. You have to push." Peridot places her other hand on Lazuli's hand.
"Okay, it is time." Garnet announces.
"One, two, three and push." Pearl tells her.
Lapis pushes, holding Peridot's hand tightened, almost crushing it.
"You are doing great." Peridot hiding her own pain.
"Again, push."
They tell her and Lapis does it.
"Oh my stars, Peridot! You are not getting near me for the next thousands of years." Lapis yells.
"I know you don't mean that."
"Guys, I have the towels and the warm water…" Amethyst gets upstairs and stops when she sees Lapis's condition. It doesn't take much time to the purple gem faint, almost dropping the water and towels, luckily, Garnet is fast enough to hold everything.
"That is why she was assigned to the water stuff." Garnet tells Pearl.
Minutes later, Lapis is sweating a lot and looks really tired too. She is holding herself together, trying not to poof.
"Alright, it is almost the end, the last push. Now." Pearl tells her.
"I can't!" Lapis shouts. "I can't do this anymore."
"Yes, you can." Peridot looks at her wife. "You are almost there."
Lapis closes her eyes and turns her face away from Peridot.
"Lazuli! Look at me!" Peridot says in a strong voice, making Lapis look at her. "I know you are scared and I know you are tired, but you are almost there. We can all see the baby's head now. Don't you want to meet our child?"
Peridot words were all she needed. She nods with her head and pushes with all her might. Her vision gets blurred for a minute, but she comes back to the world again once she listens to a new sound in her life. A baby crying.
"Oh, it's a girl. She is beautiful." Pearl holds the kid. "Look at her, Garnet. Congratulations you two."
"Let me see her, Pearl." Peridot says and Pearl gives the baby to her.
"Hello, my little girl. Here is your mama. You scared all of us, you know. You were so excited to meet everybody that you could not wait, right?" Peridot holds her daughter's hand.
"Let me see her, Peridot." Lapis says really tired.
Peridot helps Lapis to hold their daughter.
"Hey, little one, here is your mom. I love you. You are so cute." Lapis caresses her daughter's hair. "I see your gem is on your back, just like me." She smiles, while crying.
"She is an emerald." Pearl tells them.
The baby is blond, her skin is turquoise color and her eyes too. Her gem is on her back, just like Lapis, but it is a green emerald.
"Peri, she is blond too."
"Yes." Peridot smiles as well.
"Did you choose a name?" Garnet asks.
"Well, she is an emerald, so, I guess, that is her name." Peridot looks at Lapis, who agrees.
"Our little Emerald."
"Cool name."
"Yes." Pearl agrees.
"Great job, Laz." Peridot kisses Lapis on her lips.
"I am going to clean everything." Pearl looks at Garnet, who also finds an excuse to leave them alone.
"And I am going to pick up Amethyst from the floor."
Lapis plays with her daughter's hair, while Peridot is holding her hand.
"She is perfect." Lapis places her head against her wife's arm.
"Yes, she is."
"Peridot, I wanted to ask this before, but because of someone, I could not." She smiles at the baby, but then gets serious all of a sudden. "Did you find her?"
Lapis looks at the technician and finds fear on Peridot's eyes.
"Peridot?"
"No." Peridot looks away. "We didn't find anything. I am sorry."
"No, Peri." Lapis holds Peridot's hand. "It is not your fault." Lapis says in an soft voice.
"But if she… if she…" Peridot starts, but a finger on her lips interrupts her.
"Shhh, we are going to protect our daughter. Jasper will not touch her and if she tries, this time, I am going to hold her in the bottom of the ocean again and shatter her into pieces." Lapis smiles.
Peridot widens her eyes. "Okay..." She says a little bit scared of her lover. At that instant, they hear a sneeze coming from their daughter and a visor appears on her face, just like Peridot's one.
"Are you feeling cold, my little girl?" Lapis asks, holding her daughter closer to her chest.
"She has my visors. My girl." Peridot almost cryied.
"I bet she has wings too."
"Just need to wait and see. I wonder if she can see without the visors because I can't."
Lapis caresses the baby's cheek.
"What Steven's reaction will be when he finds out that his little "sister" came earlier than we expected."
"I think that he is coming tomorrow, so, we will see soon."
"Yes…" Lapis fights with her eyelids to stay opened and Peridot notices that. "Lapis, let me hold her for you. You are almost asleep."
"You are right." Lapis gives Emerald to Peridot.
"Good dreams, Laz."
"Thanks. Peri, keep an eye on Emerald."
"I promise, I will."
"And if Jasper appears… kill her."
"Okay, I will try..."
Lapis closes her eyes and falls asleep.
"Well, it is only you and me for a while." Peridot tells Emerald, going downstairs to sit on the sofa. Once she is there, her daughter moves a little on her arms and gives her a smile.
"Hey, aren't you the cutest gem that I've ever seen? Don't tell that to your mom." Peridot giggles.
"I won't say that you didn't scared me, Emerald. When I came back from the mission, I did not expect to see your mom in labor. But, thanks the stars, you are okay and your mom too." Peridot touches Emerald's hair. "You know, that hair is the worse. I remember your grandmother complaining that I didn't use to take care of it. Mine was not always triangular. I changed it myself…" Peridot stopps, she doesn't want to remember about her mother. "It doesn't matter. I don't need to remember about her. You know, Yellow Diamond is not a good mother." She looks around, remembering that she did not tell anyone that she is Yellow Diamond's heir. "No one needs to know that. It is not important at all." She looks at her daughter, who is almost sleeping.
"I can sing for you. I don't sing like your mom, but I can try my best. I am gonna say that it is not the better song for a baby to sleep, but it is the only song coming to my mind now. I am sorry, Emerald." She gives her kid a wry smiling.
"June was the lobster shell I dug by hand. A haven that hid me well beneath the sand. The wide windy waves washed in, but I stayed dry. The great breakers broke again, as I nodded off inside. And then, when the empress ran aground. And my eyes turned blue and green, I heard a gorgeous sound. And that's when it became a dream When the sky fell in, when the hurricanes came for me, I could finally crash again. And that's how I became the sea… When the sky fell in, when the hurricanes came for me, I could finally crash again. And that's how I became the sea." Peridot notices that her daughter is finally asleep.
"Well, she is sleeping, so it was not that bad." Peridot hugs her daughter.
While that, just outside the house, an orange gem is looking at Peridot through the window, with a bad smile on her face.
"Well, the brat is here. Sounds good to me."
