CHAPTER 22

MAI'S POV

The car ride was very quiet, it was still pretty awkward since the encounter with Michiru and Keiko. Mai's music was blasting and everyone was staring at her. Mai began to feel uncomfortable…

"Will you guys stop staring at me" Mai lowered her music and took her headphones off.

"Well weren't you friends with those girls before?" Monk questioned

"Yea I was hence the was" Mai looked down at her jeans and her hands turned into fists.

"When Naru was here you were talking to them just fine" John looked at Mai

"Yea I'm supposing you guys want to know"Mai chuckled

"Yea I want to know" Masako looked at Mai with eyes of worry

FLASHBACK

"Hey Mai don't been so glum, there are lots of guys out there for you" Michiru said and laughed

"You guys wouldn't understand you guys only talk about like and guys, I'm talking about love guys" Mai cried harder, Mai got up and was about to walk out the door, when Keiko grabbed her arm

"Come on Mai stop being a drama queen and let's get your mind of him" Keiko giggled

"Really?" Mai stared at her with anger "What kind of friends are you, you guys are suppose to be comforting me not letting me feel worse" Mai felt the air thicken around her, she saw her friends start to float

"YOU FREAK!" they screamed, Mai calmed down and everything dropped

"I'm so sorry" Mai dropped to her knees

"Just stay away from us you freak" Michiru grabbed Keiko and they both left the room with Mai in the darkness.

END OF FLASHBACK

"So that's what happened I believe about 2 days after everything fell apart" Mai's fist tightened and she turned her head to the window. Everyone stared at her

"Mai if only we were the—"Ayako was interrupted

"DON'T try saying that, it wouldn't make a difference anyway what's in the past is in the past" Mai turned to them a smiled

"Mai why don't you start relaying on us" Monk sat up straight

"Na I rather not at least not yet" Mai looked back at her knees

"So you don't trust me" Naru stop looking at his file and turned to Mai "your own boyfriend" Naru smirked as Mai turned red

"BOYFRIEND!" everyone yelled except Lin who focused on his driving

"Yup since yesterday" Naru urned back to his file as they bickered

"So you finally made a move huh Noll?" Gene teased

"Gene if you would like to stay alive I suggest you shut up" Naru growled

"Mai keep you boyfriend on a leash" Gene fake whimpered

"Hey it's not my problem if he wants to kill you, plus maybe I wanna kill you too" Mai smiled evilly and Naru chuckled

"Lord please protect me" Gene hid behind John

"Naru were here" Lin said. Everyone had gotten out of the van. There in front stood dark gloomy building with broken windows and people sobbing, and screaming. Mai felt a chill run up her spine 'This isn't right' Mai thought.

"Man this like the Urado case" Monk shivered. Mai stared at a window and saw a woman with black eyes and blood pouring out of her mouth. "Hello Mai you there" Monk knocked on her head with that Mai had gotten out of her daze and flipped Monk over…..again

"Mai will you please, please stop flipping me over" Monk yelled, Mai winced and shrugged and walked up to the fence.

Help me

Mai turned around and just saw the gang talking near the van, Mai opened the gate and walked thru she saw the same woman. But this time there was a little girl with her and she was smiling at Mai evilly.

Run

The girl whispered, Mai started backing up but she felt someone push her down. Mai had hit her head really hard

"Mai!" Naru screamed, Mai got up and held her head, she started swaying back and forth.

You are going to die The girl smiled once more bugs started to crawl out of her eyes and blood started to pour out of her ears

" Mai!" Gene yelled but it was too late Mai fell unconscious

TIMESKIP

NARU POV

Naru stared at Mai with worry. 'Mai why do you get yourself into trouble' Naru thought. Naru grabbed her hand it's been hours since the encounter. But she wouldn't move,

"You shouldn't worry" Mai mumbled, Mai slowly got up and smiled

"Yea well you shouldn't get yourself into trouble" Naru scolded

"Yea but you love me" Mai teased, Naru wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest

"Yes, yes I do. Now Mai you are mine and mine only I want you near me at all times on this case" Naru looked it Mai's eyes

"You got it my idiot scientist" Mai kissed him, 'Her lips fit as though they were meant to' Naru thought

"That's sweet of you to think" Mai smirked

"Hey you stay out of my mind" Naru tickled her

"I love you, you know that" Mai hugged him

"Yes and I love you too" Naru kissed her once more

"Hey guy—"Yasu froze Mai and Naru separated "Oh was I interrupted something" Yasu smirked both Naru and Mai were red

"What do you want Yasu" Mai growled

"Well I had to tell big boss some information on the asylum" Yasu smiled

"Alright I'll go now" Naru unwrapped his arms from Mai and got up "Oh and Mai stay in this room and stay safe" Mai turned red once more and Naru smirked

MAI'S POV

"Soooo boring" Mai said aloud

The lights went out Mai got out of the bed and went the door…

Mai closed her eyes and opened the door, it was a hall with lights flickering, and at the end of the hall was… a piano?

"What in the world?" Mai stood straight, but then Mai had gotten a feeling a feeling to just play her heart out. Mai started to walk but didn't seem to notice the eyes watching her

That's right this way

Mai touched the keys and started to play it felt nice. She played the song faster and faster then she just stopped completely.

"What am I doing?" Mai got up quickly and back away from the bench and turned around and started to run

YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE!

Mai felt pain in her back she turned to see what it was. A knife was buried into her back, she slowly took it out but cringed in the process, blood dripped onto the floor. She tried to heal herself but the wound was too big. Another knife hit her back Mai fell to her knees. A pool of blood surrounded her knees

DIE!

Mai's vision had gotten blurry, she had heard footsteps.

"MAI! Stay awake" Naru pleaded he picked her up and started to run back to base

"I'm sorry" Mai mumbled

"It's fine you'll be fine just keep talking to me" Naru pleaded once more

"I've should have listened to you I'm such an idiot why can't I just liste-"Mai closed her eyes

"Mai come on stay awake were almost there" Naru shook her "Mai!" Naru started to run faster, He knows she's gotten hurt but not this bad, Mai was knocking on death's door
