A/N, this chapter will be mostly unplanned. It may not be that great because of this. I was not quite sure how to do the Sea of Monsters and it will be incredibly short. It will mainly be a filler chapter. I hope you like it though.
Chapter 21
?'s POV
I woke up.
I slowly got up out of my bed careful not to awake anybody. I looked around at my siblings. I sighed. If only Lord Kronos had come to them as well, then we might be able to go together.
I walked to the door, already dressed. I slowly opened the door. I ran out. I kept as low as possible trying to be as quite as possible. There was a creak from behind me. I sprung round and no-one was here. I was on edge at the moment. MR D's friend was here. He had the respect of Mr D, Chiron, and Artemis whenever she turned up. No-one knew who he actually was. Whenever Chiron was asked he always replied with my best student.
This made me incredibly wary as to his ability.
I continued on up the path towards the hill. I suddenly veered off into the side of the path. I bent over and reached down under a rock. I picked up the syringe and the vial. I smirked to myself. I straightened up and jogged back to the path. I was on the home straight. I would have completed Lord Kronos' orders soon and would be by his side as I watched the camp burn.
I was remorseful, yes at the loss of my brothers and sisters. I knew that their sacrifice would be worth it in the war.
I got to the massive Pine tree that overlooked the hill. I rested my hand on it. I had heard of the demigods that had taken their last stand here. Everyone in their camp was told of the day that the gods 'took pity' on the brave demigods who fought to hold the camp.
I sighed again. I bent down to grab the vial. I put the syringe in the vial when I felt something come through the air behind my head.
Then nothing.
Persus' POV
I had watched the stupid demigod. I had watched him since he left his room. I watched him go up the hill. I wanted to see what he was doing and if he was to meet someone. I followed him and when I saw what he was doing knocked him out. I would leave him for Chiron to sentence. It was a decision for the camp to decide.
It was a bit fortunate that I had been up in the first place. I would most likely have woken up anyway, but would have got there too late to save the tree. I was awake as for the first time in many years the hunters had led a story around the campfire. It had been Zoe telling it about what really happened in Troy. Athena had done a great job in telling it how I wanted it. With me not there, however the gods and hunters know what really happened. I suspect that the Amazons know as well. Although only the hunters and other immortals in the camp knew it was me that they talked about, I did get uncomfortable about some of the stories.
The marvelling about what it would be like in such a war was quite painful to watch. Only Dionysus, Chiron and Artemis knew that I hated remembering the war. Zoe can only look at it with fond memories however as it led to the formation of the hunt.
The question that hit me the hardest was after the story had finished a Ares kid asked, "What happened to Achilles then." Artemis saw me visibly flinch and said,
"It is a story for another day."
I was half reminiscing about a simpler time half having horror memories about the war. Back then it did not affect me much at all. Now however it does.
Line break
I woke up next morning. It was the first time in a while I had stayed this long at the camp.
I was not going to be doing much today. This meant I had taken it upon myself to fight Ares in the arena. I did this every time I was here for an extended period. For one it gave both of us sparring practise. Secondly it gave Ares an excuse to visit his kids.
I knew that he would already be waiting for me. He always was in these situations. I walked into the arena to see him fighting some Automatons. I watched for a while and then decided that the bronze robots were outmatched.
As Ares swung at the head of one I blocked the sword. Ares smirked knowing it was me before he even looked. He clicked his fingers and they disappeared. He then pulled back and we started to circle each other. He feinted to my chest and I remained in my position not moving. He came in with an overhead strike. I sidestepped out the way and slashed at his midsection.
The fight continued for about another hour before I realised that we had an audience. I risked a quick glance and saw the hunters and Artemis sitting in the stands watching. I smirked at that. I knew what they wanted. They might get it this time as well. She would not be able to give an excuse. I glanced at Zoe and she nodded.
I sprung forward and stepped inside Ares' guard. He punched at my face and I brushed it to one side with one hand while I elbowed him in the nose. His head snapped back and I kneed him in the stomach. He doubled over and I put my sword to his neck. There was a stunned silence from the hunters. Ares nodded and I sheathed my sword. As he rose he smiles at me.
"Well fought Perseus, that finishing move was good. Painfully so." He said.
I smiled and just nodded. He then flashed out most likely to his cabin.
I waved to Zoe and she waved back. She then turned to Artemis and said something to her. I knew what it would most likely be. She and or Phoebe asked every time that we were in the same place for too long. So far Artemis had always managed to come up with an excuse.
Judging by Artemis' scowl she knew that she was trapped as well. I heard the hunters start to talk excitedly. It was silenced by what Artemis said next. I jogged over to them.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"We were just talking about you two having a duel." Phoebe said with a smirk. "Milady has conceded to fight after breakfast."
I stared at Artemis as if she was mad. She unfortunately did not realise what I was so annoyed about. I just shook my head. The Hunters would most likely spread the fact that we were going to fight over breakfast. We would be lucky to not have a full stadium. I would not be surprised if some gods did not turn up. It did not happen often that Artemis would publically fight someone who could potentially beat her.
It took less than fifteen minutes for all the seats to fill up. Everyone in the camp was there. Apollo was also there as was Ares. He had managed to stay with his kids over breakfast with the excuse he was with me.
At the other end of the stadium was Artemis, she had brought her lightweight armour and had two hunting knives. She was surrounded by Athena and her best hunters. I was by myself.
I looked around the stadium. The campers had never seen me fight so most were curious as to how good I was. They had of course seen Artemis in capture the flag so by the looks of it the odds were in her favour. The betting was of course run by the Hermes cabin.
Athena stepped into the middle. My eyes widened, this was going to be a proper match. All I wanted was a spar but I guess you take what you can get.
I drew riptide and pointed it to Zoe. She smiled when she saw it. I considered activating my shield but thought better of it. I brought out another sword. It was the sword of Achilles. I started to swing them in arcs.
This gained looks from the crowd but little else.
Finally Artemis was ready. She stepped into the middle and Athena checked both of us and then said, "This will be no powers. First one down or to submit will lose." She then flashed out of the arena and to beside where her cabin sat.
I looked at Artemis to see if she would make the first move. She was just staring back at me.
I glanced at Dionysus and got the reaction I wanted. She burst forward and gave a swift jab at my stomach. I hit her knife out of the way with one sword and kicked her in the chest. She sidestepped right into the arc of my second sword. She jumped back. She was just too slow. There was some golden icor running down her arm from her shoulder.
She ran forward in anger and I met her charge. My larger weight pushed her back. We fell to the floor and rolled. She landed on top of me and tried to pin me. I just put all of my strength into a push up and she flew off. I was jabbing my sword at her in a second.
She pulled back trying to get a break but my swords longer blades gave her no room to counter attack with.
She growled in frustration and continued to back up. She then blasted me with energy and I flew back into the far wall. She pinned me to the ground and I said, "No powers remember." She just shook her head.
"I am a goddess; I can do as I please." She then started to twist my arm round waiting for my submission. I smiled and burst into flames. She immediately jumped away and I was up in a flash. My flames doused I concentrated on my steps and the ground beneath her feet shook. She fell to the ground and I put my sword to her throat. "I win."
There was a shocked silence from around the arena. I then got up and put out my hand for Artemis. Almost everyone in the crowd winced as the thought I would get it. I smirked as she took it. I pulled her up and whispered, "I think we broke them." She smirked at that and flashed over to the hunters.
What no one in the crowd knew was that we spared on a regular basis. This was just another session to us.
I just started to walk over to Dionysus and Ares who were chatting. They were two of the only people who were not staring at me.
The look that the hunters were giving me was what annoyed me the most. They were looking at me as if I had just stolen their teddy.
I looked around and waved to Apollo. He just glared at me. This prompted me to wave more profusely until he was forced to acknowledge me by Hermes who was sitting there trying not to laugh.
A/N this was a good chapter to do. I enjoyed having the fights even though I acknowledge that I am not very good at writing them. It was a very long chapter despite the very short sea of monsters reference. I did not enjoy the book as much as the rest of the series. This was why I cut it out, I also found it unnecessary to my final plot. However the titans curse is next and for obvious reasons it will be much longer than this.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
This is HCS signing out.
