Chapter 20: Pet show!
For the first time in a very long time, there isn't anything eventful in Hetalia. Everyone seems to be at peace except for a few squabbles here and there. Even I got bored. Ruby herself sooner or later got bored with her ball of yarn and was lazing around like me. Italy noticed that one day when I was lying on the couch on my back and asked " Hey Kristina? What's wrong?"
" I'm bored…" I said.
" Maybe you can read or paint like you usually do." Italy said.
" I have no idea what to read or paint. I just don't feel like doing any of those things." I said. Italy slightly panicked and said " But, but, you always doing something."
" Malaysians are naturally lazy and looks like my laziness finally came out." I said. Ruby meowed and pawed at my feet, trying to get me to play with her. I just felt too lazy.
" Well, I wouldn't blame you, everyone seems bored since there isn't much exciting things going on now. Hey… how about you do something!" Italy said.
" Like what?" I asked.
" I don't know… some kind of event? Something that will make everyone wake up and do something." Italy said.
" Like an event just for countries?" I asked.
" Yeah! Something like that. But not now because it's now time for my siesta…" Italy said as he left the room yawning. I looked at Ruby who looked up at me. " So what should I do Ruby? It's not a bad idea but what kind of event?"
Then Ruby jumped down of the sofa and started playing with her ball of yarn. I laughed and said " Oh you are so cute Ruby. Too bad I don't know how to train you. If I could imagine what tricks you can do. Well, I had no chance of training my own dog before other than toilet training…" Then it clicked.
" That's it Ruby! I should do a pet show!" I exclaimed. Ruby looked up at me as I got up and searched for Italy.
…
Soon, the news got out that I was hosting a pet show. I had so much to do now. Italy said he could have a tent set up on the day itself and the details of the timing and date were set already by me. Now all I had to do was get there prizes, seating, plan the event and scoring and one thing which will be hard to find, judges. I would be one of the judges of course but I need to find at least two more. I had a few people in mind so I decided to visit the first person that's on my list, or at least the only person on my list.
" Oh, hello Kristina." Hungary said as she opened the door of Austria's house.
" Hey Hungary, thanks for the pizza again." I said as I entered the house.
" No problem! The pizza was pretty good. What's up?" Hungary asked as she closed the door.
" You know I'm hosting a pet show right? I was thinking maybe you want to be one of the judges. I can't do it alone." I said.
" Why not! I would love too!" Hungary said.
" Yes! One person down, one more to go!" I said.
" What do you mean?" Hungary asked.
" People to judge, now I have to think of one more person who should be a judge. You were easy, but anyone else… I have no idea." I said.
" Well, what kind of person are you search for?" Hungary asked.
" A guy with a guy's perspective, that way there will be no favouritism." I said.
" How about Austria, he's good at judging." Hungary asked.
" I don't think he's into animals and his standards are way too high." I said.
" Um… Germany?" Hungary asked.
" Not interested. He used animals as bait once." I said. Hungary got shocked and said " Bait?!"
" Don't ask. But he likes dogs. I heard he's entering the contest. I asked Spain but Spain says he's entering his pet turtle Shell into the show. Romano doesn't bother and Italy… will just give everyone high marks." I said. " I seriously don't know who can be the third judge."
" How about Poland?" Hungary asked.
" Entering the contest as I heard." I said.
" Hm… How about one of the baltic countries?" Hungary asked. I thought for awhile and said " Maybe… maybe. But I need someone with a strong guy's point of view."
" America?" Hungary.
" Worse judge ever." I said.
" Britain?" Hungary asked.
" Hm… I'm not so sure…" I said.
" You are right, it's hard to find judges. Or maybe you are just picky!" Hungary said. I rolled my eyes. " Hey… I know this person isn't a guy but how about Vietnam? She has a guy's point of view."
I thought hard for awhile. Yes Vietnam is a tomboy… but does she like animals? She is the best person for the description, and no one she hates is entering the contest… " Okay, let's go ask her!"
" Just you or me too?" Hungary asked.
" You too, it'll be great to meet Vietnam again!" I said as I grabbed her wrist, opened the door and pulled her out.
…
" So you want me to be a judge for your pet show? Why me?" Vietnam asked. We were inside her living room when I told her my offer.
" Because you are the only girl we know with a guy's point of view." Hungary said, I quickly nudged her to keep her quiet but Vietnam already heard it.
" Why can't you ask one of the guys?" Vietnam asked.
" They ether have a twisted point of view, hate animals, is joining the show or is just really bad at judging." I said. " Seriously, I thought of every guy I know. From America to Canada to Greece to Thailand. The best ones are entering the contest." I said.
" Well, I don't have a problem with animals so I'm in!" Vietnam said. I hissed " Yes!" And hi-fived her. Then Hungary asked " So… what now?"
" Time for me to plan the point system and events. Plus prizes and a few other things…" I said.
" Hey, who's entering the contest?" Vietnam asked.
" So far as I heard: Germany, Japan, Spain, Canada and Iceland. I don't know about the rest." I said.
" Thailand said he's going to bring Toto." Vietnam said. " That's what he told me."
" Well, I heard the egoist is joining too." Hungary said.
" Prussia?! He has a pet?" I asked.
" Yeah, don't you remember his little bird?" Hungary asked. Oh, right.
" Okay, let's help you plan this. I mean it's not fair since we are the judges too, to let you do all the work." Vietnam said.
" Thanks guys, I can really use the help." I said and then the three of us started working on the points system. While we were finally planning the events, Vietnam looked up from her work and said " Hey… are we all good friends now?"
" Of course!" I said.
" What? Did you think we aren't" Hungary asked.
" No, it's not that. I mean… I was thinking a name for our group of friends. I mean, Prussia has a name for his huge circle of friends and so does Britain. Why not we come up with our own?" Vietnam said.
" Good idea! What should it be?" Hungary asked.
"… Tough Girl Trio? Sorry, just a suggestion. It doesn't sound that good." I said.
" Not that good? It's perfect! We'll be scaring the guys away!" Hungary exclaimed.
" It's good!" Vietnam said. " Tough Girl Trio it is, or TGT for short."
I smiled, and then we continued planning and now I have to get the materials we need for the courses. I felt so happy, we were acting as if we knew each other since young. I am really going to miss these girls when I leave… if I can.
…
I was extremely nervous when the day came. I wore a checkered red and white long-sleeved shirt with black jeans and black sneakers. The countries were already coming in to take their seats for the pet show. In the poster it said to sign up on the day itself but no one has yet. Well it just started but I'm extremely nervous!
" Calm down Kristina, you'll be fine!" Hungary said.
" Ve~ You'll do great!" Italy said who was beside me and patting my back. I had chosen Italy to keep track of the scores since he has done so much for me.
" I'm just nervous okay. This is the first time I actually conducted something on my own!" I said.
" It's okay, we're here for you." Vietnam said.
" But what if I stumble or something?" I asked.
" You won't, otherwise I would have brought my bamboo sword along to knock you to your senses." Vietnam said. I smiled, okay, I can do this. I walked to the registration counter and waited for the first person to sign up. To no surprise, it was Spain.
" Hey Spain, signing any animal up?" I asked as Spain came to me. He was holding Shell in his hand.
" Yup, Shell's going up!" Spain said. Oh shoot, there is a racing course.
" Um… okay. You know there is a racing course right?" I asked.
" It's okay, already prepared!" Spain said.
" Alright, sign up here!" I said as I gave him a paper and the form to put his name and animal. Spain signed him up.
Prussia and France weren't far behind Spain. Of course, Bad Touch Trio. What did I expect from Spain. But there was a shy girl reading a thick novel behind France. Another country? Then Prussia went forward, slammed his hand on the table and said " The awesome me is joining the contest! I know I will win!"
" Who's the animal?" I asked. Then Gilbird popped behind him, flying. " My awesome bird of course."
" Alright, sign up!" I said, passing him the pen which Spain finished using.
" Hey… how much?" Prussia asked in a low voice.
" It's free to sign up." I said.
" No, I mean how much to win?" Prussia asked. What the… bribery? Does he take me as a money loving person? Stupid. Then a frying pan hit Prussia's head and Prussia yelled in pain, then he turned around to See Hungary behind him, angry.
" I can here that!" Hungary exclaimed " No bribery!"
" That's for her to decide!" Prussia exclaimed.
" You think I'm stupid enough to go for bribery?" I asked.
" Well… why do you care?" Prussia exclaimed at Hungary.
" Because I am one of the judges!" Hungary said.
" The what? Judges?" Prussia exclaimed.
" Ohnono~ That's nice. Who's the other one other than Kristina?" France asked.
" That would be me." Vietnam said coming forward.
" Wow, there are a lot of tough girls here." Spain mentioned.
" That's why Vietnam, Kristina and I are now known as the Tough Girl Trio! TGT for short." Hungary announced.
The BBT looked at each other. The shy girl looked up, she could be around 15 or 16. I knew what they were thinking, they are so screwed. I then looked at France and asked " Are you entering the contest too?"
" Of course! I brought Pierre along!" France said as a white dove appeared behind him. Then he snatched the pen from Prussia and signed up.
" Who's she?" I asked, pointing to the girl behind France. The girl wasn't very tall, she was half a head shorter than me. He has long greyish-brown waist-long hair plaited into one long braid and behind her metallic glasses were bright blue eyes. She also has a loose thick ribbon in her hair. She wore a light pink long sleeved, white wide collared flowing dress with six buttons on the front.
" Oh, you haven't met Monaco yet? Monaco, this is Kristina, Kristina, Monaco." France introduced.
" Hello Monaco!" I said cheerfully.
" You are the girl I have heard about. You like to read right?" Monaco asked. I nodded. Then the turned to France and said " I told you reading isn't bad."
" But it makes you unsociable! Come on, stop reading those books for a moment." France said as he tried to grab her novel. Monaco easily stepped aside and France fell to the ground. Then Pierre started to fly in a circle around France's head. Wow, maybe Pierre can try to win by being a special effect. France stood up and Monaco said " I know you well France, I can tell where you move next."
" Hey… how did you know?" Prussia asked.
" Reading helps you to pay more attention to things, scenery and people." Monaco said.
" So that's why Kristina knows where I'll try to disturb her and always somehow counter it." Prussia said. I thought that was obvious.
" Alright, where do we go now?" France asked.
" Just follow me, you have to sit aside first since you guys are the participants." Vietnam said and she walked off. The BBT followed her, careful of their steps in case Vietnam decides to beat them up. Monaco then went to the bleachers to sit down and read.
" H-Hello Kristina." A soft voice said and I looked up to see Canada and Kumajiro.
" Oh! Hello Canada. Let me guess you are signing Kumajiro up." I asked.
" Yes I am." Canada said.
" Who?" Kumajiro asked.
Canada turned depressed again and said " I'm Canada…"
" It's okay, Kumajiro will learn your name sooner or later. Here, sign up!" I said as I gave him the pen. Then he signed up and went to where the BBT waited for their turn to go on stage.
Then I saw Germany enter the tent, with three of his dogs: A German Shepard named Berlitz, a Doberman named Blackie and a golden retriever named Aster. I immediately got alerted and exclaimed to Germany " Germany! Only one pet can enter okay?"
" What? Only one? Great, now I have to choose…" Germany said as he looked down at his three dogs, which are begging him to choose it. Then I saw Japan come in and I knew he would have thought the same. " You too Japan."
" Oh, sorry… Alright Pochi, you will go up. Can you take care of him while I fetch my other pets home?" Japan asked as I saw Snow and Japeneko appear behind him.
" Okay, come on Pochi!" I said and Pochi ran to me. Pochi seems really friendly to me. Then he sat beside me and waited. Then Germany came to me with his golden retriever and said " I'm entering Aster for the contest, but can you look after him while I take Berlitz and Blackie back?"
" Sure! But I think you might want to sign up Aster first." I said. So Germany signed Aster up while Aster played with Pochi, then, he sent his other two dogs back home. So did Japan with his cats. I asked Hungary to take care of them while I wait. Then the rest of allies and the Nordics came. Iceland and Finland went to me with their pets. Iceland had brought Mr Puffin while Finland brought along a cute dog. It is was like a curled up snowball with short floppy ears, cute eyes and a tail.
" Aw! What a cute puppy!" I exclaimed as I stood up to touch the little puppy Finland held. The puppy the licked my hand which was ticklish.
" Hey! So I'm not cute!" Mr Puffin asked as he flew to me and peck my head once.
" I didn't say that, you are cute too." I said, but he pecked me again and said " Don't call me cute!"
" You sound like a hypocrite." Iceland said.
" So let me guess, you are signing Mr Puffin up." I said.
" Yes, and Finland is signing Hanatamago up." Iceland told me. I look at the little dog, aw! So cute.
" It's actually Sweden's and mine but I'm the one usually taking care of her so I'm entering her under my name." Finland said. Then I passed him the pen and said " Well, sign up!"
Iceland and Finland sign their pets up while Denmark, Norway and Sweden find places to sit. Iceland and Finland had to wait at the side like the rest. Denmark seemed to be annoying Norway again until Norway pulled his tie again. I laughed, is there a dull moment between the Nordics? Then Germany came back, took Aster and sat at the side. Prussia took the chance to annoy his younger brother.
Then Poland came along with the Blatic states and announced " I'm signing Summer up!"
" Um Hungary… is the riding course big enough for the pony?" I asked. Hungary shrugged. Then I asked " How small is Summer?"
" Just a kid." Poland mentioned, " She is pretty small."
" Okay, sign her up!" I said as I passed Poland a pen. But then he took out a pen of his own and signed it with that instead. Okay… I guess he just wants to use his own pen.
" Hey, are any of you three signing any animals up?" Poland asked the Baltics.
" I don't have any pets." Latvia said " Although I would like to have one."
" Same." Estonia said " Except I don't want a pet."
" Hey Lithuania, what happened to that little brown dog you had?" Poland asked.
" It died…" Lithuania said. Poor Lithuania. Then Poland stood at the side with his small brown pony Summer, with most of the other competitors staring at him and his pony.
Then I saw Belgium and Netherlands come in, Netherlands held a bunny in his hands and went to me. I think you all know I was never close with Netherlands since all he worries about is money but I didn't expect for him to bring a pet.
" So you are entering your rabbit in the show?" I asked. Netherlands nodded, then he said " Belgium thought it was a good idea to let her enter. Although I think it just wastes time."
" Well you have to do something in your life, sign up!" I said, Netherlands did. I noticed that the bunny has a pink heart-shape patch on it's back. Nice. Then Netherlands came to sit aside like the others. Not many people signed up afterwards but a lot of countries did come. Japan finally came back and took Pochi to sit at the side. I wonder if Thailand is coming. I get to meet some of the countries again like Liechtenstein and her brother, Austria, Seychelles and many more. Soon, I saw Thailand come with Toto.
" So there you are! I knew you would come!" I said as Thailand came over.
" Nice to see you too Kristina! I'm signing Toto up." Thailand said.
" Alright, sign up!" I said passing him the pen. The bleachers is nearly full and it's almost time. I think I'll close the entrance form.
" Hey Thailand! Wait up!" A feminine voice said. I looked behind Thailand to see an asian girl about 16 years old run up to Thailand. She has black hair down to her chest which is plaited into a long braid and hazel eyes. She also wore a huge clip ribbon in her hair. She was wearing a red baju kurung shirt with long black pants. She also has fair skin. She then picked Toto up and said " Why did you run ahead! You know I could easily be lost in this crowd!"
" Lost? They why did you leave us behind?" Another feminine filipino voice said. Another girl around 16 came toward us. She has long dark brown wavy hair down to her waist and dark eyes. She also has tanned skin and looks very innocent. She wore a white blouse with a long checkered skirt. She panted as she reached the other girl and grabbed her shoulder.
" You guys were just too slow." The girl with the ribbon answered. " Singapore! Malaysia! Hurry up!"
" Sorry Indonesia, I had to rush to sign Toto up, we did come late." Thailand said, scratching the back of his head. Wait, did I hear Thailand properly? The girl holding Toto is… Indonesia? Then who is the girl next to her? And did I hear Malaysia and Singapore?
" Who are they?" I asked Thailand. Thailand then looked at me, took Toto from Indonesia and said " So you haven't met them yet? Oh, this is Indonesia and the other girl is Philippines. Singapore and Malaysia should be here soon but… I can't see them."
" Oh, who are you?" Indonesia asked. Before I could answer, a small boy around 12 years old ran toward Indonesia and complained " Indonesia! Please don't leave me like that next time ah? I'm just a small country la!" That's a lot of singlish, Singlish is a deformed language of enlist which mixes english with a few malay or hokkien words. Ah and La are just accents.
The boy was pretty short, around 1.4 metres. He has dark purplish-black hair with bright black eyes. He wore a loose white singlet with black shorts and jeans. He seems very causal to me. He also has fair skin. Philippines then asked " Where's Malaysia?"
" Malaysia ah… oops. I left her behind." the boy said as he looked behind him. Philippines sighed " Oh course. You're Singapore, you always make the mistakes people do."
" Hey, is Toto in the pet show?" Singapore asked Thailand. Thailand smiled and said " Yes he is."
" I guess this boy is Singapore right?" I asked. Thailand nodded. The boy looked at me and asked " Are you…"
" Singapore! How dare you leave me behind!" A malaysian accent yelled. My heart skipped a beat. I looked up and saw a girl about 16 years old stomped towards Singapore angrily. She has slightly tanned skin and bright brown eyes. She also has slightly wavy shoulder length hair with a hibiscus in her hair. She wore a plain white shirt with white knee length shorts. " Don't you go running off again!"
" Malaysia! I'm independent now! I can take care of myself!" Singapore complained.
" Just because your country is like a safe heaven doesn't mean other places are." Malaysia said.
" Oh let him be Singapore, you know he won't listen to you." Indonesia snorted.
" He's my little brother! I care for his safety!" Malaysia said.
" He still isn't a child. It's not like your his mother." Indonesia said. Malaysia seemed to get angry. Then Philippines got between them and said " Stop it you two! We don't want to make a scene!"
" I think someone else is already doing it." I said as I saw Britain argue with France, again.
" Fine… anyway, excuse me, do you know where Kristina is?" Malaysia asked me. I was dumbfound. Malaysia… is right in front of me. The one who can take me home…
" I-I'm Kristina…" I said. Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore went silent. So was Malaysia. Thailand, not understanding the tension said " Yup, it's her! The girl I told you about!"
We were still silent when Toto decided to break it by giving a trumpet sound. Then Thailand said " Well, I better go to the side now. See you later!" Then Thailand left us silent. Indonesia was the first to speak up " So, you're Kristina. Nice to meet you. Sorry about Malaysia there, she tends to get angry quick. Especially at me since now we are still decided who Borneo belong to."
" You two are still onto that? Sigh… I thought it was over." Philippines said. Then Singapore spoke loudly " You're the Malaysian girl everyone keeps talking about! I'm Singapore! Nice to meet you! You can come to my place anytime! I heard you used to study in my land! That's-" Singapore would have go on if it wasn't for Indonesia.
" Quiet Singapore! Damn, how loud are you?" Indonesia said.
Then Malaysia spoke " Kristina, great to see you! I've been wanting to meet you ever since I heard about you!"
" Really, same here!" I said.
" I have good news. I came to this pet show because not only did I want to see the show but I also want to meet you. Before I've been so busy and trying to heal my arm." Then she showed me a long scar down her right forearm. I gasped, that… was new? My thought came to Japan but I quickly ignored it and asked " So what's the news?"
" I found your home!" Malaysia exclaimed. I squealed in joy and started jumping around. Home! She found my home! Oh my gosh!
" Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!" I exclaimed as I went to hug Malaysia. She laughed and said " Okay, you can let go of me now."
I let go of her and said " Thank you soo much! I can't believe it!"
" You have no idea who long she looked for that house. I had to fight for her about the addresses in Borneo until I finally let her see." Indonesia said.
Then Vietnam ran towards us and said " Kris, it's about to start. Hey Indonesia! Malaysia! Philippines! Singapore! Great to see you guys! I can't believe how long it has been! I guess you guys are fine now."
" Yup, well, except for Philippines. We're helping her out as much as we can." Malaysia said as she put her arm around Philippines. Philippines nodded and sighed.
" You guys better try to find seats because there isn't much left." Vietnam said. Then Malaysia turned to me and said " So I'll see you afterwards okay?"
" Sure!" I said and the four countries went off. Then Vietnam told me " Go and do it!" I walked to the centre of the tent and grabbed a microphone while Hungary and Vietnam took their seats. Italy stood aside, next to the score board.
" Good Afternoon everyone!" I said in my loud voice. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me. " My name is Kristina! Welcome to the countries pet show! Each country with their pet have to complete four tasks, each giving them points! 30 points from each game so that means 120 points in total! The one with the most points win! The events are grooming, talents, racing and intelligence! The judges are me, Hungary and Vietnam. The one keeping tracks of the scores is Italy. Now, let's meet our contestants!"
Then I stood aside and read from the sign up list. " First, is Spain with his pet turtle, Shell!"
Spain got up from his seat and went to the centre of the tent. Then he raised Shell up high, who immediately hid back in it's shell. Looks like Shell is pretty shy. I saw some countries stand up, trying to see Shell. Then Spain went out and I called out the next name " Next is… Prussia with his pet bird Gil… bird!"
" You forgot the awesome part!" Prussia said as he went out with Gilbrid flying behind him.
" Not saying it!" I said, some people in the audience laughed, I could see Hungary laughing at Prussia too. Gilbird flew around Prussia head so it makes him look like he's dizzy. People started to laugh again. Prussia ignored it and said " The awesome Prussia is going to win this!"
" Dude… it's just a pet show." I said as Prussia went out. Then I said " Next is France with his pet dove Pierre!"
France went out in his style, with Pierre flying behind him. France blew a kiss to the crowd while Pierre flew towards the audience, above their head and back again. Impressive entrance. Then the two went away. I looked at my list again and said " Next is Canada with his cute talking polar bear Kumajiro!"
Canada and Kumajiro walked to the centre of the tent. Well, Kumajiro is being carried by Canada and Canada nervously walked to the centre of the tent. Kumajiro then got down and looked at the audience, standing on this four paws. Some of the audience couldn't help but aw at his cuteness. " H-hello, I'm C-Canada."
" Who?" Kumajiro asked. Poor Canada…
" I'm Canada…" Canada said before he picked up Kumajiro again and walked out. Then I announced " Next is Germany with his golden retriever Aster!"
Germany and Aster walked to the centre of the stage with his army like manner, which I got to admit was good. Germany waved while Aster hung his tongue out. Then they went out of the stage. " Next is Japan with his pet dog Pochi!" Pochi ran ahead and Japan called out " Wait Pochi!"
There were some laughs in the crowd but I also saw a commotion. Indonesia had stood up and seems to be struggling with Philippines and Singapore, who were trying to pull her back. They look really worried. Huh, that's weird. Then Pochi came back to Japan and Japan saw Indonesia struggling. He held his breath. Malaysia looked at Japan and narrowed her eyes. I shook myself awake and said as Japan and Pochi went off stage " Next is Iceland with his pet penguin, Mr Puffin!"
" I am not his pet!" Mr Puffin said as he flew quickly to the center of the stage. Iceland walked in after him and Mr Puffin yelled at the audience " Don't call me cute!"
" I'm sorry about that, Mr Puffin! Wait!" Iceland said as Mr Puffin flew way. I laughed slightly and then said " Next is Finland with his snowy white dog Hanatamago!"
Finland walked along with his small dog and nearly everyone could resist saying aw to the cute little dog. Finland waved to the rest of the Nordics and then walked off.
" Next is Netherlands with his white rabbit… Moondrop!" I said. Netherlands put Moondrop down and Moondrop jumped to the centre of the tent. I saw Indonesia stand again but Philippines pulled her down quickly. Belgium waved to Netherlands. Netherland just look at Belgium and waved back before both Moondrop and Netherlands went off stage.
" Next we have Poland with his small pony, Summer!" I said as Summer trotted to the centre of the stage and Poland… strutted beside him. He waved to the crowd and announced " I am so totally going to win." Then as Summer and Poland walk out, I said " Well let's see. Finally, we have Thailand and his cute small elephant, Toto!"
Thailand and Toto walked to the centre of the tent, then Toto seemed to spray a tiny fountain of water stored in his trunk, everyone clapped. " Wow, looks like we've got some competition here!" I said as Thailand and Toto walked out. Poland and Prussia glared at each other in the sidelines and then at Thailand.
" Okay, first off, we have the grooming event! Owners have to dress up their pets to impress the judges and they are given ten minutes to do it. Then it up to the pets to model themselves and points will be given. Each judge will rate the pet from zero to ten which will contribute to the marks. On your mark, get set…"
" Wait, what?" Spain said.
" GO!" I exclaimed and the owners quickly try to find things to model their pet. Netherlands didn't seem to care and went along with it. " Guys, costumes for animals are there." I said pointing to the direction of a clothes rack."
" You could have told us earlier!" Prussia exclaimed as they went towards the right direction this time.
" Sorry! I forgot. Remember, I said impress! It doesn't have to be cute!" I said, then I went to my place and sit down between Hungary and Vietnam.
" You did well Kris!" Hungary said " Nice job."
" To be honest, I was shivering the whole time…" I said as I took in deep breaths.
" It's okay, now it's just time for us to judge until the race. How is Spain's turtle going to do that? It's going to take forever." Vietnam said.
" He says he has a plan but I'm not sure what." I said. " We'll just have to see."
Ten minutes later, I stood up and said " Okay everyone! Time's up! Hands off your pets! The judging will begin now! We will be going by the order before. First comes Spain's turtle Shell!"
" Um Kristina… how long will that take?" Hungary asked. I stayed quiet. But then Spain went out carrying shell, put him down and ran off. I guess it won't take very long. Shell's shell seem to shine a lot. Looks like it took Spain a lot of effort to do that in ten minutes. Vietnam snorted and said " It's just shiny, what's so special?"
Then sunshine hit Shell's shell and a few lights were reflected off the shell. Wow! That is amazing! The crowds cheered, we looked at each other, write the number on our scoreboards and showed it to the crowd. I had written a 9, Hungary a 10 and Vietnam a 7. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 26
Then I spoke in the mike " Great job Spain, um… can you get Shell now?" Spain ran forward, picked Shell up and brought him aside.
" Next is Prussia's bird, Gilbird!" I exclaimed. Then the small yellow bird flew in clumsily, with the huge blue three pointed hat on it's head, it was just his size but… it's still too big. It also has a small red sash on it, good thing it fits. When the bird landed on the center, the hat became lopsided. Hungary then said " Is Prussia trying to make the bird look like him?"
" Seems like it." Vietnam said.
" Still, it's pretty cute! Except the costume's too big." I said. then we wrote down our marks. I put in an 8, Hungary a 4 and Vietnam a 6. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 18.
" What? Why did my Gilbrid get a 18!" Prussia shouted at the sidelines. Gilbrid panicked and flew to Prussia and pecked him on the head. Prussia stumbled a bit and Gilbird flew around Prussia's head, as if he was dizzy.
" Well… that shut him up. Next is France's bird, Pierre! I expect good things from him since his country is a fashionable country." I said. Then the white bird flew in with a handsome suit and a daisy on it's chest. Impressive. I put in an 8, Hungary put in a 9 while Vietnam put in a 6. We look at Vietnam and she said " The daisy was too much." Italy put on the score board: 23
"You should work harder Prussia~" France said. Prussia got annoyed.
" Next, it's Canada's bear, Kumajiro!" I said and Kumajiro walked to the centre of the tent on his four paws and it down. He looked very cute with the red bow on his near and maple left shirt. Simple, yet nice. We wrote down our marks. Vietnam a 7, Hungary an 8 and for me, a 9. Italy wrote on the score board: 24
" Nice one Canada!" I said " Now we have Germany's dog, Aster!"
Aster came out bold and proud in his army suit. It was of a free colour and had an army cap on his right ear. Vietnam then exclaimed " Oh yeah! Finally something not sissy!"
" The ones before were fine." Hungary said " But this is cool."
We wrote our marks. Vietnam put a ten, I put a ten, Hungary put a ten. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 30. " A perfect score! Great job Germany!"
" What! Why do I have the lowest mark!" Prussia exclaimed.
" Because your bird was wearing a size way too big?" I mentioned " Now it is Japan's dog, Pochi!"
Pochi ran to the centre of the tent and looked around. Pochi was wearing a tiny samurai suit with a toy sword attached to it. Pochi hung it hung out, making it look very cute. We nodded and showed our marks. I gave a 9, Hungary gave another 9 and Vietnam gave a 7. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 25.
" Good job Japan! Now it's Iceland's penguin, Mr Puffin!" I said. Then Mr Puffin flew out. He didn't have much of a difference, He only wore his red bow tie and a black jacket which didn't look too comfortable on him. We looked at each other, wrote down the marks and showed it to the audience. Vietnam gave a 0, I gave a 5 and Hungary gave a 3. Italy wrote on the score board: 8.
" Oh yeah! I'm no longer last!" Prussia cheered.
" I've done horribly." Iceland said. Then Mr Puffin flew back to Iceland and peck his head exclaiming " It's your fault!"
" It was barely anything…" Vietnam muttered. I blinked and then said through the mike " Next it's Finland's dog, Hanatamago!" Hanatamago walked forward quickly, she wore a small santa jacket and a christmas cap. Most of the audience awed at it's cuteness. We wrote our marks: Vietnam wrote a 7, Hungary an 8 and for me a 10. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 25.
As Hanatamago walked out of the stage, I announced " Next will be Netherland's rabbit Moondrop!" Moondrop hopped to the centre of the stage with… nothing. We looked at Netherlands and he said " I had to take an important call. It was something about financial so I couldn't ignore it."
Vietnam and Hungary immediately wrote their points and showed. I was slower but I managed to give my points. Vietnam: 0, Hungary: 0, Me: 1, out of sympathy for the rabbit trying to put an effort. Italy wrote on the scoreboard the measly 1.
" Wow, I don't think anyone could get a lower score than Norway's…" France said.
As Moondrop hopped to her owner, I said " Okay, now it is time for Poland's pony, Summer!"
Summer strutted in like a warrior, yet her footsteps are dedicate. Her looks were more impressive. Her white mane had flowers and ribbons in her hair and her hooves were supper shiny. She also wore a headdress with lots of flowers and sequences. The coat was shiny and had a nice comfortable blanket on it, completing the final touch. Hungary, me and even Vietnam gave a 9 at the same time. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 27.
After Summer strutted off, I announced " Finally, we have Thailand's elephant, Toto!" Toto trumpet his arrival and walked in. Toto had a rug on his back like Summer's except it was more of a Thailand's design. It also had a headdress with bells and bead like chain. Toto's face had plenty of paint, I thought Toto came out of a temple or something. Vietnam gave an 8, Hungary a 9 and I gave a 7. Italy wrote on the score board: 24
After Toto left, I announced " Alright, I hope you all like these costumes! Currently, Germany is taking the lead with a perfect score of 30 points, Poland isn't far behind with 27 points! The other countries are not far behind. Norway and Netherlands are lacking in points but that doesn't mean it's over yet! They may catch up in the next event: Talent! First will be Spain and Shell!"
Spain carried Shell to the centre of the room and put him down. I wonder how Spain is going to do this. Shell got into his shell and then Spain spun the shell around fast, we were all observing the shell carefully when suddenly one of the legs pop out and hit the floor. The shell was raised up and was still spinning. Cool! Break dancing! Then another leg came out to support and soon, the next to legs. When the spinning stopped, one leg supported the shell while the other three were in the air. Shell's head popped out and looked at us. We all knew the score. Vietnam: 10, Hungary, 10, me: 10. Italy wrote on the board: 30.
" A perfect score! Well done Spain!" I exclaimed. " Next will be Prussia and Gilbird!"
Prussia and Gilbird went to the center of the stage. Then Gilbird flew to our tabled, took a small stick and started tap dancing in front of us. I was pretty impressed at first then I realised the dancing was pretty clumsy. We looked at each other and gave our points: Viet: 4, Hungary: 6, Me: 7. Then Gilbird stopped his dancing because he realised it isn't working. Then he flew to Prussia and continuously pecked hi head.
" Ow! Ow! Ow! Gilbird! Stop that!" Prussia exclaimed. When Gilbird finally did, Prussia was wobbling. Then Gilbird started to fly around his head. Then Prussia put his hand on our table and said " Stupid bird…"
We looked at each other again and put in our points again: Viet: 7, Hungary: 10 and me: 8. Italy wrote on the score board: 25.
" Oh yeah! We're going up!" Prussia cheered.
" Thank your bird, that was hilarious!" Hungary exclaimed, but Prussia ignored her and walked away proudly. Then I announced " Next is France and Pierre!" France and Pierre walked to the centre of the stage and Pierre started to chirp a tune. It sounds beautiful. But… Vietnam slept the moment she heard it. After it was done, we wrote our marks: Viet: 3, Hungary: 9, Me: 8. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 20.
" What! That was a beautiful tune!" France exclaimed.
" I hate classical music!" Vietnam exclaimed.
" Hey!" Hungary exclaimed offended.
" Calm down you guys. Let's move on to the next contestant." I said as France left with Pierre. " That would be Canada and Kumajiro!" Canada and Kumajiro went to the centre and Canada said " Do your thing."
" Who are you?" Kumajiro asked.
" I'm Canada…" Canda reminded.
" But, what is my thing?" Kumajiro said.
" You mean… I didn't teach you any tricks?" Canada asked.
" Well… I learnt one by myself…" Kumajiro said.
" Alright, do it." Canada said with a smile. Kumajiro walked away and came back with a huge beach ball and some plates. Kumajiro stood on the ball and balanced himself. Then he told Canada to put the plates on his head and hands. Canada, worriedly, do so. Kumajiro stumbled a bit but stayed. Then he lifted up his leg and Canada put the last plate on the remaining foot. Kumajiro was in perfect balance. We clapped and put in our marks: Viet: 10, Me: 9, Hungary: 10. Italy wrote on the score board: 29.
" Wow, they are good…" I heard Poland said. " Never mind Summer, we can do this!"
As Canada and Kumajiro leave (who have gotten down from his position of course), I announced " Next is Germany and Aster! He has to get a good score if he wants to maintain his position…"
Aster faced Germany and Germany commanded " Alright, position 1!" Aster went on his hind legs and stood straight, no even moving. " Turn around." Aster did so, hopping. " Position 2!" Aster went on his front paws with his hind legs in the air and turned around.
" Down, flip!" Germany commanded. Aster got on his four legs and then jumped in the air, making two flips before landing perfectly on his four feet. Wow, that is cool!
" Position 3!" Germany yelled. Aster moaned a bit but then did it. Aster was doing a human bridge. We all clapped but I could see the dog was in pain. Finally, Germany said " Down." And Aster collapsed. Germany knelt down to pat Aster and give him a treat. We gave our marks: Vietnam: 10, Hungary: 8, Me: 9. Italy wrote on the score board: 27.
" Looks like Germany is maintaining his lead!" I said as Germany and Aster left. " Next is Japan and Pochi!" Japan andPochi went out, with Japan carrying a small radio. Then Japan put the radio on the ground and played the music. Some japanese festival music played and Pochi stood on his hind legs and dance.
" Wow, you thought Pochi that?" I asked.
" No he naturlly does it every time he hears festival music." Japan explained. Wow, I guess this dog really likes festivals. When the song finished, Pochi got on it's four legs panting. Japan went to Pochi and stroked it's head. We gave our points: Viet: 9, Hungary: 10, Me: 10. Italy wrote on the score board: 29. Then as Japan and Pochi left, I announced " Looks like Japan is catching up! Let's see how Iceland and Mr Puffin catches up. They seem to need to get a perfect score to catch up!"
Norway and Mr Puffin went to the centre and Mr Puffin said " Leave this to me." Mr Puffin took my microphone and flew back. Then he started to sing " I will survive" from Rio two, including the acting and the really high part. We were all surprised when Mr Puffin finished. Vietname gave a 7, Hungary a 7 and I gave a 8. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 22. Why is it low? Because Mr Puffin's voice cracked once during his singing.
" It's okay, at least we caught up." Iceland said.
" Easy for you to say!" Mr Puffin said as they both walked out. Then I announced " Next is Finland and Hanatamago!" Finland and Hanatamago went on stage and Hanatamago looked at Finland. Hanatamago ran back and Finland took out three rings big enough to fit Hanatamago. Finland threw one at Hanatamago and Hanatamago went through it and started to use it as a hula-hoop. Finland threw another directly above Hamatamago and Hanatamago started twirling two! Next is the third which Hanatamago managed to to spin too! Wow!
We all gave our marks: Vietnam: 9, Hungary: 8 and me: 9. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 27. Hanatamago stopped hula-hooping and ran to Finland. Finland smiled as Hanatamago jumped in his arms " You did good."
" Next up," I announced " Will be Netherlands and Moondrop!" Netherlands and Moondrop come out and did nothing. We were silent for awhile, us watching them until Vietnam spoke up " Aren't you going to do anything?"
" I was too busy to teach Moondrop tricks." Netherlands said. Hungary and Vietnam immediately put a zero while I put a 1 for pity to the rabbit. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 1. Then Netherland and Moondroped walked out. Then I said " Next is Poland and Summer!"
Poland was riding Summer to the center of the tent and then they started trotting on the spot with some pop music in the background. I forgot what that trotting event was called but it was pretty good. We gave our marks, Vietnam: 6, Hungary: 8, Me: 7. Italy wrote on the score board: 21.
" Finally, we have Thailand and Toto!" I said when Poland and Summer left. Toto trumpeted as he walked out on his stumpy legs and Thailand came in with a canvas on a wooden stand and some paints. Thailand put the things down and set them up while Toto grabbed a brush with his truck. Thailand held the wooden board for paints while Toto dipped his brush into it. Then Toto started to paint. It was interesting watching Toto paint. But Vietnam fell asleep in the middle of it. I guess she has seen this before.
When Toto was finished, I nudged Vietnam awake and Thailand showed us the picture. It was a picture of Toto himself. We all clapped and gave our marks. Viet: 7, Hungary: 9, Me: 10. Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 26.
As Thailand and Toto leave, Hungary and Vietnam got up to set the next event, racing. I stood up and announced as they did their work " Well that was all very good talents demonstrated by our animals! So far Germany is still taking the lead but Spain is VERY close behind. Japan isn't very far too, followed by Canada and Finland! Netherlands will have to get a lot of points just to keep up with everyone. Norway is gaining points slowly. Now for the next event, Racing!"
" As you can see, Hungary and Vietnam has set the course in front of you." I said then I pointed to the tunnel first " First the animal has to go through the Tunnel! Um… can anyone get a bigger one for Summer? Next they have to go up the ramp, we still need a bigger ramp. Next they will have to jump over three hurdles and finally cross zig-zag cones. The fastes animal to cross the finish line will get thirty points! The second will get 28, the third 26 and so on. Let's start the race! I wonder how Shell or Summer will do it. We'll see because Shell is going first!"
" Wait! I need to get some things!" Spain said and he ran out of the tent. We were all silent, we didn't know what to do. When we thought Spain wasn't coming back, Spain came back with small ramps, books and the remaining courses Summer needs for her race. He put the ramps near the hurdles, in front of them and the books at the corners between the hurdles and ramp, the ramp and hurdles, the hurdles and cones and finally a wall along the cones. We all watched him with curiosity.
Then Spain took Shell and went to the start of the racetrack. Then Spain asked his turtle " Ready?" Shell hid inside it's shell. Then Spain threw Shell unto the course. Shell's shell easily went through the tunnel and hit the book, making it turn another way to the ramp. Then Shell went up and down the ramp and hit the other book to turn around. When Shell slid on the mini ramp, he flew over all three hurdles! Then came the most difficult part, the cones.
Shell hit every book along the cones, zig-zagging through the cones, but it was slowing down. When Shell was just about to cross the finishing line, the shell itself stopped. Spain panicked and quickly exclaimed " Shell! Crawl! Crawl!"
Shell got out of its shell and started to crawl. Shell was just right in front of the finishing line but it took 10 seconds for Shell to cross the finishing line. I stopped the stopwatch I've been holding and said " 1 minute and 10 seconds! Not bad for a turtle." Then I wrote the timing down on a piece of paper under Shell's name. Spain picked Shell up and said " Well, at least you did it!"
" Next is Gilbird's turn!" I said before Vietnam tapped my shoulder and asked " What Spain did wan't against the rules?"
" I checked and apparently we didn't say anything about throwing the animal or adding things to the course." Hungary told Vietnam. Then I said the rest of what I had to say " Remember, go through the course! Not over it! The time to beat is 1 minute and 10 seconds! Ready… go!"
Gilbrid, who was the the start of the race track, started to fly. Prussia cheered Gilbird on as Gilbird flew through the tunnel and near the floor on the ramp as part of the rules. If you defy the rules, no timing will be given and hence, last. Gilbird flew over the hurdles easily and managed to swoop past the cones as easily. I stopped the time as Gilbird flew past me an announced " 30 seconds! Good one Gilbird! Shell is immediately kicked out of the perfect score! The time to beat now is 30 seconds!"
Pierre was next and when I screamed go, Pierre flew has fast as he could. He could easily go through the tunnel and ramp but through the hurdles his feet hit one of the hurdles, oh no… 5 second penalty. Pierre was slower at the cones. Then I exclaimed as Pierre crossed me " 35 seconds! But with that hurdle hit that will be 40 seconds! Looks like Prussia may win but let's see what Canada's bear has to say about that!"
Kumajiro got into a running position and after I recorded the marks I yelled " Go!" Kumajiro quickly ran through the tunnel and ramp but when it came to the hurdles, he had to stop, walk back and leap over. It took about 7 to 10 seconds for each hurdle but at the last one, Kumajiro tripped over the hurdle. Then he quickly ran through the cones, trying not to hit any of them. I stopped the time and read " 59 seconds. Are you okay Kumajiro?"
" I'm fine…" Kumajiro said.
When Kumajiro walked to the side, Aster got to position. Then I said " I wonder if Aster will beat Prussia's bird? Ready… go!" Aster ran off, easily going through every single course! But he wasn't as flexible as Prussia's bird, but he was fast. When Aster passed me, I read the timing " 29 seconds! Aster beat Gilbird by a second! Germany maintains his first place, so far. Next up will be Pochi!"
Pochi excitedly ran to the starting line. When I yelled go, Pochi ran as fast as he can, but he ran under the hurdles. I'm starting to think that the hurdles are actually the hardest in te course. But Pochi made it swiftly to the finishing line. I read the timing " 25 seconds! That's amazing! But takes to Pochi running under the hurdles, a penalty of 15 seconds are added. So that means 40 seconds. Just to think Pochi may have beaten Aster." Then Japan went to pick Pochi up and said " Oh Pochi… you were suppose to jump over the hurdles…"
Next was Mr Puffin, he managed to go through the course nearly as easily as Aster and Gilbrid had. But the timing was " 31 seconds! Oh my gosh! Two more seconds Mr Puffin! Good job!"
" Darn! Just that two seconds!" Mr Puffin mumbled as he flew to Iceland. Next was Hanatamago's turn. When I exclaimed " Go!" Hanatamago went through the course easily, but since Hanatamago was so small, he had trouble with the hurdles. But Hanatamago managed to complete the course in 45 seconds.
Moondrop's turn was the most surprising. " Ready… go!" And Moondrop ran off. She quickly ran through the tunnel, ramp, easily hopped over the hurdles and swiftly wen through the cones. When I stopped the stopwatch, My eyes widen when I saw the timing " 15 seconds! OMG! Moondrop beat Aster!"
Netherlands smiled, picked Moondrop up and patted her head. " Rabbits are naturally fast." Netherlands told me. Wow, looks like Netherlands can catch up if he wins the next event too.
Hungary and Vietnam had to reset the next course because Summer was going through the course next. Summer didn't have much luck. She went clumsily through the tunnel, but managed to go up the ramp and over the hurdles easily. The cones were a bit of a problem, she had hit one of them. She crossed thee finishing line with " Hm… 49 seconds! But thanks to that cone, that means 54 seconds. Looks like Summer didn't do as well for this course."
Finally, it's Toto's turn. Toto could easily go through all the courses except the hurdles which Toto had no choice but to ran through them. " Well, Toto did a good job of 31 seconds but missing all three hurdles, that will be 46 seconds. Nice try Toto!" Then I gave Hungary the marks to calculate which she then gave Italy to write. Then I announced the marks.
" Alright! Despite Netherland's surprising win in the dancing course, he is still last and needs to desperately catch up! Germany is still leading, followed by Japan, Finland, Prussia, Spain and Thailand. I can already see a battle for at least second or third but who knows, maybe someone might beat Germany in the last round, Intelligence!"
" In the Intelligence round, the will be six items on the ground: two circles, two triangles and two squares. The animal is suppose to sort it into the correct box. The circles go to the blue box, red for the squares and yellow for the triangles. For Shell, as we found out, we will make a water course for him, take goodness the boxes and items are waterproof!" I said. Hungary and Vietnam quickly filled a baby pool with water and added in the items. The boxes height were slightly higher than the waterlevel so that Shell can put in the waterproof shapes inside.
Spain put Shell into the box and I told the crowd " There will also be a bonus of five points for the fastest time, but it is the right shapes in the right box that counts, start!" Shel; quickly swam to the circles and put them in the blue box. But then Shell put two triangles and a square in the yellow box and the remaining in the red box.
" 35 seconds." Vietnam told me. I nodded and counted the marks. " Well, he only got one wrong so… 25 points so far!" Italy wrote on the scoreboard: 25.
Then Hungary and Vietnam put the shapes and boxes out of the pool and I got rid of the pool. I didn't throw away the water because Shell seemed to enjoy himself so I let him stay. It was Gilbird's turn and when I said go, Gilbrid took the shapes from it's beak and put them into the boxes. It didn't seem to know what to do because it put all the shapes in the same box.
" No! It's…" Prussia was about to warn Gilbrid when Hungary said " Don't tell him or 0 points!"
" 27 seconds." Vietnam said. " Gilbrid only got two right." Italy wrote on the score board: 10.
" And I was doing so well…" Prussia said in a depressed mood.
" Well, you did get the fastest time so far. But it really depends on the intelligence." I said. " Next is Pierre!"
Pierre seemed to be smart. Pierre did his sorting neatly and at the right places, but Pierre took his own sweet time. " 30 seconds." Vietnam told me.
" Well, it is all correct so that means 30 points!" I said. Italy added the score to the scoreboard.
" Well, you did get the fastest but you got it right!" France said to Pierre as the dove flew to him.
Next it was Kumajiro. Even thought the shapes were slightly covered in saliva but Hungary didn't mind, well, she did mind a bit but not much. Kumajiro used his paws to sort the shapes out, almost like a human. Then when Kumajiro finished, I saw he got all the shapes correct.
" 15 seconds." Vietnam said.
" Good job Kumajiro." Canada said as he picked Kumajiro up.
" Who are you?" Kumajiro asked Canada.
" I'm Canada…" Canada said.
Aster was next and Aster seemed to be as fast as Kumajiro. But in the ends when saw the shapes, Aster sorted the circle wrongly. That means 25 points. Vietnam recorded as 17 seconds, looks like Aster is slowing down a bit. But by the looks of it, Germany might win, even the one next highest to Germany, which is Japan. Speaking of Japan, Pochi was next, he took his own sweet time but matched all of them correctly. That means 30 points. Pochi wasn't fast enough.
The moment it was Mr Puffin's turn to do the challenge, Mr puffin complained " I'm not a low life! This is easy!" Mr Puffin completed it in 20 seconds, the new time to beat.
" Good job Mr Puffin." Iceland said.
" You could be at least a little more entuisatic." Mr Puffin grumbled ad he flew away.
It was Hanatamago next. She had to jump to put the shapes in. At the last one, she literally jumped into the box with a loud thump! " Hanatamago! Are you okay?" A cheerful bark came from the box, she's okay. But she got two of the shapes in the wrong box. She wasn't fast enough ether.
Netherland's Moondrop went next and wow, she was fast. She hopped in and out of the boxes, putting the right shape in the right box. The timing? " 15 seconds…" Vietnam read. " Damn rabbits are fast!"
" That's what I told you." Netherlands said as he picked Moondrop out of the yellow box.
Next was Summer's turn. She did pick it all up fast but in 16 seconds. One less second and she could have at least even up with Moondrop. She would need it because… only three were correct. " You so need to work on your intelligence." Poland said to Summer. Summer dropped her head. Poland can be a little mean sometimes.
Finally, it was Toto's turn. Toto took his sweet time and organised all the shapes correctly. That means 30 points. Thailand said " Toto likes to relax after the race." Well, at least he got the good marks. After Italy put in Thailands marks, he calculated all the points with help from Hungary. It was pretty intense for the players because it seemed like Japan could even up with Germany, but no such luck. I got the results, went to the centre of the tent and said the results.
" Alright! It is now the end of the pet show. Here are all the results we've been waiting for. I'll start from the last, that will be Netherlands with 67 points! Not bad for someone who started badly. Next will be Poland with 75 points! Looks like Prussia and Iceland pushed Poland back with 79 points and 84 points repectively! Finland comes next with 90 points followed by Spain with 91 points! We are now down to the final five…"
The audience to be at the edge of the seats to hear the results, especially the allies and the animal lovers.
" Fifth place goes to… France and his pet bird Pierre with 93 points! Well done!" I exclaimed. France then started to make fun of Spain and Prussia, especially Prussia who was one of the last. Prussia and France ended up fighting after that.
" Next… in fourth place… is Canada and Kumajiro with 95 points!" I exclaimed. Canada and Kumajiro looked up, surprised and Canda asked " We got fourth?"
" Yay! I am an awesome bear!" Kumajiro cheered.
" Now… in third place… goes to Thailand and Toto with 96 points!" I exclaimed " They will getting the third place prize!" I exclaimed. Thailand smiled while Toto trumpeted in happiness. Thailand and Toto hi-fived, or shall I say truck five?
" Now, the only competitors I haven't mention is Germany and Japan. So I will say the winner. First place… of the country pet show… goes to… GERMANY AND ASTER WITH 110 Points!" I exclaimed. Germany whispered to himself " Yes!" which is not soft enough and Aster barked in happiness. " Followed by Japan and Pochi with 90 points!"
" Wow, that's really good Pochi." Japan said to Pochi. Pochi barked and hung his tongue out.
" Come on you three, you deserve the prizes!" I said. Thailand, Toto, Japan, Pochi, Germany and Aster went to the centre of the tent while Hungary and Vietnam came with the prizes. There were six ribbons: two yellow, two red and two blue( which is obviously first place). I gave the ribbons to the respective countries and then Italy came forth with a camera and said " Say Pasta!" But before we could do anything, Italy already took the picture. I laughed.
" Congradulations to the winners of the pet show!" I said and the audience cheered. " Thank you for coming to this pet show, home you have a safe journey home!" Then I switched off the mike and heaved a sigh of relief. That wasn't easy, running a pet show. I walked aside as the audience got up and went out of the tent. Then I heard a voice behind me " Kristina!"
I turned around to see Singapore running towards me, followed by Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines. " That was an awesome show!"
" Thanks." I said, smiling.
" Yeah, I wish I had brought my tiger." Malaysia said.
" I don't think bringing Stripes is a good idea…" Indonesia said.
" For the final time! He is gentle!" Malaysia exclaimed at Indonesia.
" Whatever." Indonesia said. Malaysia sighed and asked me " Hey, do you want to hang out with us after this? It would be fun."
" Yeah sure." I said, then I saw the Axis behind them walked towards us, with Japan at the back who seemed reluctant to follow. Pochi and Aster followed too. They came along with Hungary and Vietnam. " Hey Hungary, Viet, Italy, Germany and Japan!"
The girls and Singapore seemed to freeze at Japan's name. They turned around the see them coming. Then something weird happened. Malaysia's face seemed to boil with anger but tries to hide it. Indonesia glares at Japan as she turned to face the countries walking to us. Philippines and Singapore hide behind the two, gripping unit their sleeves. I could hear Philippines whisper to Indonesia " Clam down Indonesia… calm down…"
" Congratulations on getting first Germany!" I said went they came to us. " And congrats on getting second Japan!"
" Thank you." Germany said.
" Arigato, It is great to get a prize." Japan said
" Ve~ you guys did great!" Italy said. Vietnam went silent, she was looking at Malaysia. Hungary seemed to notice the asian girls and Singapore's stress and stayed quiet too.
" Oh, who are these pretty girls~" Italy asked.
" They are my siblings. Inodnesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore." Vietnam introduced.
" Ve~ I'm Italy, why so shy? That's Germany and the shorter one is Japan!" Italy introduced.
" We know Japan…" Indonesia said.
" Oh right, well he told us about Malaysia only since Kristina is from there-" Italy said before he interrupted by Malaysia. " Wait, Kristina's friends with Japan?"
" Oh course! Why wouldn't she?" Italy asked. Malaysia's face then became even more enraged. Germany now noticed this too. Japan tried to look away. Suddenly, Indonesia couldn't contain her anger anymore. She took out a wooden sword from her back (which she probably hid in her clothes) and started to charge towards Japan. Pochi howled loudly to warn Japan, Japan stepped back.
At the same time, Vietnam called me " Catch!" I looked behind and quickly caught my wooden sword and ran in front of Japan. Oh no. Indonesia's sword and mine clashed together, making a huge ' chack' sound. We pressed our sword together. We strike swords again and Indonesia keep trying to make blows at Japan while I blocked them. Japan seemed to be guilty and tried to find his sword. But he hadn't brought it with him
" Why are you siding with him?! Why are you this tyrant's friend?!" Indonesia asked as we fought.
" Why are you attacking him!" I exclaimed.
" He caused us trouble don't you know!" Indonesia exclaimed. " Let me finish him!"
" Indonesia! Calm down!" Philippines panicked. Singapore just hid behind Malaysia, gripping her arm tight. Malaysia couldn't believe what she was seeing. Germany and Hungary were paralysed on the spot. Italy was even more afraid.
" How can you be his… friend?!" Indonesia exclaimed.
" Because he is! Why does that bother you so much?" I asked a we clashed our swords again and pressed them against each other.
" Why? Because-" Indonesia was quickly pulled back by Vietnam, her arms under Indonesia's. Indonesia struggled to get free but Vietnam tried to keep her in place. " How could you?!" I calmed down a little and relaxed my position.
" B-but Japan's a nice guy? What are you talking about?" Italy asked.
" Japan? What is going on?" Germany asked Japan who had stepped back in wary. Japan stood up straight and never said anything. Indonesia calmed down slightly and said " I-" Malaysia already took action. She took Indonesia's sword and charged for Japan, Japan didn't notice it until I got in front of him and started fighting Malaysia. She was surprised and then her face filled with anger and exclaimed " Why?!"
We started fighting again, with me moving backward and Japan trying to move back too. He knows if he runs, Malaysia will definitely go after him. " Why are attacking him?"
" Because he's a tyrant! He's evil!" Malaysia exclaimed " How can you?"
" A tryant? Evil? but he's one of the nicest person I know!" I said.
" Then you definitely don't know Japan." Malaysia said as she attacked again. " He attacked me! He attacked all of us!"
" Japan doesn't have the heart to attack anyone! He's shy and kind! No way would he do that!" I exclaimed, but I was starting to doubt myself… the japanese occupation…
" He did! Don't you know? What he did?" Malaysia asked.
" What are you taking about?" I asked. Malaysia was about to try and hit me when she heard my reply. She relaxed her position and the look at me with surprise. Indonesia had stopped struggling but Viet still held her. Hungary, Germany and Italy looked at the two of us, confused. " You… don't know?"
I relaxed my position, still keeping my guard up and said " Know what?"
" Italy? Germany? Do you two know?" Malaysia asked, turning to the clueless countries. Other countries who had seem peaceful around us suddenly turned their attention to us. China ran forward and stopped to look at Japan, then the south east asian girls and Singapore. The allies weren't far behind. " Hungary?"
" What is it?" Germany said. Malaysia then dropped her sword unto the floor and said " Japan… you really think you could hide this?"
" I said many times, I am sorry. I beg for forgiveness." Japan said as he stood tall and bowed to Malaysia. Malaysia glared at Japan and said " How? After you ruthlessly attacked us during world war two? Do you think I can just forget it? Singapore was traumatised!"
" I am very sorry…" Japan said.
" Sorry isn't enough. Kristina, it's time you should know. All of you." Malaysia said.
" What… did Japan do?" I asked. Malaysia looked at me and said " Did you have any idea of this?"
" A bit, but not what it was." I said. Malaysia was silent at first but then told her tale.
" Soon after the beginning of world war two, Japan attacked Philippines, taking over America's rule. I was shocked to hear about it especially when Japan was a quiet person and not the type to attack. He and Philippines were always on good terms, well they were then. Philippines immediately failed. She was stripped off from her resources, everything was taken from her! She became a slave! I was about to warn Indonesia but it was too late. Indonesia had… trust him… to defeat Netherlands. Netherlands had been using her for money and she was practically a slave. But when Netherlands lost Philippines… Japan made her a slave again. It was horrible when I went there, all the people were tortured by the Japanese soliders. I was next."
" I begged Britain for help and his soliders tried the best they could…but they were as easily defeated as Netherlands was. I was there, during the invasion. Japan himself was there too. We fought on, he had broke some of my bones and twisted my foot. He even gave me this scar…" Malaysia stopped and showed us the long scar on her arm. " Eventually, we lost and Britain went back to protect his own country. Singapore was more easily taken. Two japanese soliders beat Singapore down right in front of my eyes, it was unbearable. I begged Japan to stop but… he just ignored me. He made us all miserable. I was glad Japan was bombed. It gave us freedom… and soon, our independence." Malaysia told her tale. Everyone was quiet. Vietnam had released Indonesia and Indonesia did and said nothing.
" Do you know how hard it is to see my people die for no reason everyday? How those soliders tortured us. Everything from us was taking, everything! I had to give in to their demands even though I was injured. I kept begging to see Japan but they will just beat me up. I met up with Indonesia and Philippines who were in the same state as me. Indonesia had it worse. Most of her women became whores because of it, whores! We had no will, everyone in my country was killed off if they disobey, some for no reason! Especially the chinese. I couldn't stand it." Malaysia said, her eyes nearly into tears. I gasped, was it really that bad. Singapore showed me his leg and I saw a few stitches which were still visible. Philippines was breathing heavily in fear and Indonesia just growled.
I looked at Japan, which what everyone was doing, his face was extremely guilty, his hands became a fist.
" I didn't mean to! My boss ordered me to! We countries have to obey our bosses! I couldn't bear to but the soliders sees it as an opportunity! I had no will to do it! I had to! Otherwise who knows what might happen. I never told you about Malaysia or any one of them because I was afraid you will hate me!" Japan defended. " I-"
" Japan." I said as I stared at him. Japan's eyes looks desperate, trying to cover his act. But it was revealed. My breathing was fast and my eyes started to sting. " I know." My voice trembled.
Japan eyes grew wide, everyone seemed to stare at me. " Japan… I know. I know. I know before Malaysia told me. I know you attacked Malaysia. I know you attacked all four of them."
Japan was silent and asked " H-how…"
" I just do. I wasn't sure. But I didn't expect it to be… like this…" I said. There was a brief silence before Japan looked at the ground. There were so many emotions on this face. I could hear China say " Aru…" Britain and America looked away, they knew too. All this time yet they kept it a secret.
" Japan?" Italy asked. Then Germany stepped forwards and said " I… have something to confess to."
" Germany?" I asked. Germany held his breath and his fist tightened. " It's about the Nazis right?"
Germany looked at me in shock and said " How did you know?!"
" I wasn't sure ether whether it was true or not. Germany, why? Six million jews, killed." I asked turning to him. Italy looked at Germany and said " Germany?…"
" I had to put the blame on someone. It was the only way to cheer the people's spirits. Hitler forced me to." Germany said. I pressed my lips shut. Italy was confused and asked " Why did you guys do these things?!"
" Because… they want to fulfil their own tasks." Indonesia said.
I couldn't stand it anymore. My friends… did this. Especially Japan, I know he did something but did he have to be so ruthless. It… hurt me. Inside. To know he did this to Malaysia, to know it was him who did it. My vision became blurry and I quickly ran out of the tent.
" Kristina!" Italy yelled after me. But I didn't turn back. I ran all the way to Italy's house past Romano, Spain and Shell who looked at me as I ran, past Ruby who looked at me with confusion. I ran into my room and slammed the door. I jumped onto my bed and squashed my face against the pillow. I knew this would happen but never this bad.
Japan… how could you? This is not you. This isn't you. Why did you keep it a secret from me? You could have helped me… Why?
No one bother to come to my room. But I could hear Spain's, Romano's and Italy's voices outside. I could hear Ruby scraping on the door to let me in. They were worried, about me. I didn't come out for dinner that night. I know Japan didn't do it on his will, but it was hard to take in on what he's done. Germany too, but not that much. Japan was mainly on my mind. I know Japan didn't mean it. I know why Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore has to be angry. I know why Japan wants to keep it a secret from me.
But for now, I just want to be alone.
Hey, didn't expect that right? Kristina really cares about Japan and knows roughly this will come. I know it ended sadly but I think they will find a way to make up. Remember, only four chapters left so quickly vote! Italy or Japan? Stay tuned!
