Who You Gonna Call
When Valkyrie opened her eyes, blinded by the morning light, she rolled over and saw an empty bed across from her. When she sat up and looked around, Dean was still at the kitchen table. She rubbed her face and swung her legs out of bed, staring at him, lost for words.
"Please tell me you didn't spend all night there." She said and he looked over at her as if she had snapped him out of a trance.
"No, I got up a couple of hours ago." he said and she was ready to call him a liar, when she noticed he was wearing a different shirt. "I think you were right." He added and she had to let it sink in, being half asleep.
"Holy shit." She said and he shot her a weakened glare. "Say that again?" she asked him and he just ignored her. "You gonna contact Crowley?" she asked and he remained silent, but nodded and rubbed his face, shutting Sam's laptop.
"Yeah." He said as he got up. She watched him closely, as if she expected him to change his mind. But when he looked at her, there was something strange. He was exhausted and desperate… and looking at her for some guidance.
"So how do you do that, exactly?" she asked. He sighed and approached her, sitting on her bed next to her.
"Summon him." he said and stayed silent. She knew he didn't want to do this, but was because he was tired.
"You don't have to do this." She said, but when he met her eyes again, that look remained.
"What else do we have?" he asked in response. "Castiel might not be able to help like I had hoped." He added and she instinctively placed her hand on his.
They got everything they needed and went out to the middle of nowhere, at a crossroads, to summon Crowley. It was something that sent a chill down both their spines, but it had to be done. When Dean had set up the ritual and set fire to the contents of the bowl, Valkyrie froze and left only her eyes to move.
For a few long seconds, everything was silent and eerie.
"Hello, darlings." Said that familiar voice with that slightly mixture of British and Scottish accent. As they both turned around to glance behind them, Crowley flashed them a creepy smile. "Fancy seeing you again." he said mockingly.
"Don't be a jerk." Dean warned and Crowley arched an eyebrow at him.
"Me? You summon me and tell me to not be something that I'm not?" he asked and Valkyrie felt a little confused. When the demon glanced at her, his smile turned seductive and another chill ran down her spine.
"Eyes here, demon." Dean said and Crowley returned his gaze to Dean, only he now glared.
"Careful, Winchester." The demon warned and Valkyrie knew she had to be the one to play peacemaker or this would go horribly wrong.
"The reason why we summoned you is because we'd like to know if you can do something that an angel can't." she said and when he looked at her, he flashed her that smile again.
"Darling, everything I do is what an angel cannot." He said and the look in his eyes made her shudder. He wasn't really referring to what she was talking about, so she had to specify.
"Can you find the Archangel Sariel?" she asked him and he titled his head at her and that smile remained.
"What would you want with that old sod?" he asked her with a slight grin on his lips. "What could he do for you that I can't?" he asked and his grin widened. It made Valkyrie shiver and Dean quickly walked over to her, putting his hand in her lower back.
"Get my brothers out of Lucifer's cage." He replied and Crowley's grin slowly faded and was replaced with confusion.
"Are you insane?" Crowley asked and glanced from Dean to Valkyrie and back. "Even if you succeed, do you have any idea in what shape they'll be?" he asked and looked at Dean fiercely. "There won't be enough therapy in the world for those two." He concluded.
"We just need you to find Sariel." Dean said.
Silence fell on them and it weighted heavily. Crowley watched Dean, as if the longer he stared, the sooner Dean would buckle and beg for help. When that didn't happen, Crowley sighed and rolled his eyes.
Valkyrie expected for Crowley to ask what he gets out of this, but he didn't. It surprised her.
"You realize me summoning an Archangel is wrong." He said and Dean just narrowed his eyes on the demon. "It goes against my nature." He said looking a little offended, knowing that Dean didn't give a shit. "It's going to cost you, Winchester." He added with a cold look in his eyes and vanished.
Despite their slight feeling of worry, especially about the cost, they knew this had to be done. What else could they have done?
"So you'll do it." Dean said and Crowley chuckled.
"No." he said and Valkyrie tilted her head in confusion.
"You said –" Dean began, cut Crowley cut him off as he rose his hand up.
"You know how I work, hunter." Crowley said with a dark grin and Dean balled up his hands into fists. "Do we got a deal?" he asked and Dean grunted. Valkyrie glanced from Dean to Crowley, wondering how Dean as going to take care of this.
"What is it that you want?" Dean asked and Crowley only grinned in a sinister fashion, which creeped out Valkyrie.
"Borrow your friend for an evening." He said and glanced at Valkyrie with a dark smile. It sent chills down her spine. Dean glanced at her; jaw dropped, and narrowed his eyes back at Crowley.
"Not happening." He said sternly and when Crowley met his eyes, that smile didn't falter.
"Good luck on locating Sariel." He said and was about to snap his fingers. At that moment, Dean clenched his jaw and shocked Valkyrie.
"Wait." He said. She looked at him, speechless, until she somehow found her voice.
"Dean." she hissed and grabbed his arm, but he shook her off.
"Just what do you want with Valkyrie?" Dean asked and although she said smacking his arm, he brushed her off and ignored her.
"Just some time to get to know each other." Crowley replied innocently. Valkyrie looked at the demon and her skin crawled. She returned her gaze to Dean and glared.
"Don't you dare." She whispered harshly.
"One hour." Dean said and she smacked him harder. However, him and the demon negotiated like she wasn't even there, which pissed her off.
"An evening." Crowley said and it continued, until Crowley got chewed down to three hours. "Do we have a deal or do you find Sariel with a broken compass and not a hope in Hell." He added. Dean remained silent for some time with his jaw clenched tightly. The fact that he was silent annoyed Valkyrie. He ignored her and dealt with Crowley.
"Deal." He said with contempt in his voice, but it offered no comfort to Valkyrie. He might be annoyed, but she was pissed off. He was willing to let Crowley take her for three hours without knowing what the demon had in mind.
Crowley approached, sealed his deal with a quick kiss, which was the only bit of satisfaction Valkyrie had, and he was gone. Dean wiped his lips and when he glanced at her, she frowned.
"You asshole." She said and there were so many things she wanted to say, but she was so angry that she didn't know where to start. "Passing me onto to Crowley just to get your angel." she added and Dean had that pained look in his eyes. This wasn't easy for him either, but at least he wasn't the one spending three hours with Crowley against their will.
"I'm sorry, but what else do we have?" Dean asked and she turned away from him. Yeah, sure; if she was all that Crowley wanted, what other option did they have? He could have at least asked her if she was alright for this before dealing with Crowley and ignoring her pleas.
"You're gonna have to make this up to me, so start thinking, Winchester." She said and kept her back to him, furious. He remained silent, knowing there was nothing he could say that would please her.
