Draco stared up at his childhood home through the woods on the west side of the manor. Death Eaters were roaming the grounds, wands out and at the ready. Obviously the Dark Lord hadn't found another place for his main hide out, and he honestly wasn't surprised. He bet his father enjoyed the attention.
Thunder boomed lightly above him, and Draco looked up. The sky was cloudy, but with one look out into the horizon, Draco could make out the smallest bit of sunlight. The darkness was purposely surrounding the manor. With a sigh, he wondered when it had become so different.
He quickly dove behind a tree when he saw two death eaters passing by him by about ten feet, catching some of what they were saying.
"I have to go back inside. Orders to feed the Malfoy bitch."
Draco felt anger build up inside him at hearing the way they were talking about his mother.
The other death eater laughed. "Bloody traitor. Don't know why the dark lord is waiting so long to off her."
"Isn't it obvious? He's trying to lure the Malfoy boy here. It's why he told Lucius to write him that letter, telling him about his mother." The man spat. "Doesn't matter though. The boy won't come. If we can't find him then who's to say an owl will?"
Draco closed his eyes, lowering his head in shame. He should have known.
"Sucks for the boy though. Won't even know his mother is going to be viciously murdered."
There was a sudden POP and Draco looked up to see a few men approaching the main gate of the manor. He narrowed his eyes, shocked to see they were carrying a girl with them. She looked to be about his age, light blonde hair sticking out against the darkness, she seemed strikingly familiar, and yet he couldn't place where he'd seen her.
The two death eaters that had been standing by Draco raced to help the men carrying the girl, and Draco knew this was his one and only chance to get inside undetected. He sprinted for the manor, keeping low to the ground, his wand out.
He reached the house in seconds, throwing his back against the nearest wall. Horror struck him thought when he saw the men were now dragging the girl towards his direction. He panicked, pushing the door open and immediately running into the shadows, wand held tightly in his hand. He found r was breathing heavy, and quickly held his breath as the front door slammed open a few feet from him, Draco pushing himself even further against the wall, hoping his blonde hair wasn't visible in the darkness.
"The Dark Lord wants the girl in the library." One of the death eaters ordered.
All five of the men now carrying her towards a set of stairs towards the left side of the entrance way.
Draco watched, waiting for them to disappear completely before sprinting as fast as he could towards the dungeons. If his mother was anywhere, it'd be there. He shut the door behind him gently, creeping through the hall, careful not to make any sounds. His eyes wavered between each cell, desperate to find her.
"Mum?" He whispered.
"Hey!"
Draco's eyes shot up to see a death eater coming right for him, wand raised.
Draco was faster though, and flicked his wand at the man. "Pertrificus totalis!"
The man froze, body bind and locked, and soon fell to the ground.
Draco ran for him, grabbing his wand from his frozen hand and snapping it in half. He would stop voldemorts army in anyway he could while he was here.
"Draco?" A soft voice came from the far end of the dungeons, and he recognized it as clear as day. His head shot up, eyes wide.
"Draco, is that you?"
"Mum?" Draco was at her side in seconds, and she looked awful. Her hair was a mess, trashed and full of dirt. Her skin was pale, and she looked like she hadn't been fed properly in weeks, the pallor in her skin nearly translucent along with the slight hint of bone. "Mum, you look terrible. I'm getting out out of here." Draco pointed his wand at the lock, ready to break it open with his bare hands if he had to.
"No, Draco. You can't." She had her hand on the lock, shaking her head at her son. "You shouldn't have come here."
"I couldn't just leave you. Dad's not doing anything to help you."
Narcissa sighed. "Your father sent you that letter purposely, Draco. To get you to come here so he could hand you over to the dark lord in exchange for me. You're father isn't happy with you. I'm bait. If you let me out, they're going to know you were here."
"But... I can't leave you here, mum." Draco shook his head at her. "We can escape in time. I know we can. There aren't a lot of death eaters outside. We can escape."
Narcissa shook her head. "Draco... it's all a ruse. Don't you see? Once you open this lock, they'll know you're here. And they'll come and get you. The dark lord wants you dead."
"Isabella's pregnant." Draco said suddenly, staring at his mother with hopeful eyes. Maybe her knowing that would cause her to change her mind, to want to fight.
"Oh, sweetheart." Narcissa stared at him with sad eyes.
"Please, mum. I need you to come. To help me. I don't know what I'm doing." She grabbed onto her hand that was still holding the lock. "Let go. Let me try."
Narcissa shook her head. "You're a parent now, Draco. Your baby needs to come first. You need to forget about me and go home to Isabella and help her." Draco shook his head, and slowly, Narcissa brought her hand up to the side of Draco's face. "I love you. You're a good person, son. So much more then your father ever was."
Draco could feel tears coming to his eyes. Before Isabella, his other was the only one who truly loved him. How was he supposed to just give up and let her go? To just leave and pretend he wasn't leaving her to die?
"Mum-"
"There are bigger, more important things that are about to happen. You need to stay strong for them." She leaned forward and kissed him on the forehead. "War is upon us, Draco. Go back to wherever it is your hiding and stay there. Stay far away from London. It's the only way you'll survive. Harry potter and his friends are destroying Horcruxes. Parts of The Dark Lord's soul. Before long, you'll be able to come back. Live the life you were meant to."
A bang come from the floor above them, making both Draco and Narcissa jump. "You have to leave. Before they find you."
Narcissa have her son a small shove. "Go." She urged.
Draco ran at the cage, wrapping his arms around his mother, the bars still keeping them separated. "I love you. You'll be okay. I promise."
Narcissa gave him a small smile, her eyes fading in their once bright light, deep down she knew she wouldn't be. And deep down, Draco knew it too. He was leaving her to die. It would haunt him for the rest of his life.
He pulled away from her, heading for the stairs. He stopped once more to stare back at his mother, who was staring right back at him, tears running down her cheeks. She knew as well as he did that this would be the last time they would ever see each other.
It broke both their hearts. But Draco... his heart was filled with anger. He'd have to have a little chat with his father.
The door to the library shut, and Lucius Malfoy let you a deep sigh. He walked over to his desk that sat by one of the large, bay windows, and collapsed into his chair. He ran a hand through his long, blonde hair, placing his wand on the desk and reaching into a drawer, grabbing out a quill. When he looked back up at his desk though, he was surprised to see his wand lift from the wood and fly into a corner of the room. It landed in the hands of someone who was just as pale as himself, and when the person stepped from the darkness, Lucius would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised.
"Draco..." He said softly, getting to his feet.
"What's the matter father? You looked stressed." Draco snapped. "Is throwing mum in prison too much of a strain on you?"
Lucius narrowed his eyes at his son, completely ignoring his comments. "I see you finally got my letter. Tell me, where have you been hiding that it took so long?"
Draco laughed. "You asked like I'd actually tell you."
"Then tell me this, what is your reasoning behind coming up here? Your mother is in the dungeons. Farthest cell to the left."
"I know where she is. I've already been down there." Draco took a couple steps closer to his father. "She told me you only owled me to set a trap, to get me to come so you could snatch me up and send me to the dark lord. Guess you didn't expect me to be so sneaky, huh?"
Lucius gave a small smirk to try and hide his anger, but his eyes shot daggers at Draco. "Actually, it was more along the lines of you just took too damn long."
"Well sorry to spoil your plans." Draco spat. "The real reason I came up here and why I'm not halfway home by now is mainly because I wanted to rub my happiness in your face. You failed, father. In more ways then you can count. You failed to get me on your side. You failed to persuade me to willingly join the dark lords ranks. You failed when it came to drive me away from Isabella. And you especially failed at finding out where I'm hiding. But... I guess I really should be thanking you. Because if it weren't for you trying to pry us apart, we probably wouldn't be as close as we are today. We probably wouldn't be married." Draco watched Lucius' eyes of darken as the words left his mouth. "And we definitely wouldn't have a child on the way."
"You what?!" Lucius took a few more steps towards Draco, forcing the young wizard to lift his wand, pointing it directly at his own fathers chest.
"You are ruining everything!" Lucius spat through gritted teeth.
Draco took a step towards him, digging his wand even further into Lucius' chest, knowing his father wouldn't dare try anything without his wand in his hand. He was a coward in that sense.
"We've all made our decisions." Draco was rather calm for the situation. "You decided to throw your wife in a prison cell and follow a lunatic. I, on the other hand, decided to run away with the woman I love, to escape you and all your beliefs, and start a family. One that you won't force on me like you tried to do when I was still in school."
Lucius' face fell slightly, and Draco wasn't sure why, but he wanted to ask his father something, and he knew now would be the best time to get an answer from him. "Mum said there's a war coming. How would she know that?"
Lucius stared at Draco, his eyes going for the wand digging into his chest before looking back up at his son. "Before she was thrown in the prison, she was part of a meeting where that was discussed. Potter and his... friends broke into the ministry of magic a couple months back. The dark lord believes they're on the run with nowhere to go. Any day now... we'll have them."
There was a sudden scream that came from another part of the house, and it made Draco jump slightly, not expecting it. It was a scream of terror and pain, a scream Draco knew all too well.
He looked down at the ground before his eyes met his fathers again, smirking. "You won't catch them you know. Not with Granger on their side. She's too smart for you."
This seemed to piss Lucius off almost as much as telling him about his marriage did. And Draco knew it was because he was standing up for a muggle born instead of his own flesh and blood. The thought and knowing how angry it made Lucius only made his smirk grow.
"We'll catch them. We have our ways."
"And what way is that?"
Lucius smirked. "You'll find out eventually." He said dangerously, his voice a whisper.
Draco stared up at his father, now seeing the rage in his iris'. He took a couple steps back from Lucius, grabbing his fathers wand from his pocket where he had stuffed it and holding it at both ends. He knew he over stayed his welcome, and had to leave before it was too late, but he couldn't take any chances. He stared at his father, smirking, before slowly starting to bend the wood.
"Don't-!" But Lucius' cry was too ate. He was interrupted by a SNAP as Draco broke his wand in two separate pieces, a wisp evaporating into the air where the wood had been split. Draco threw them at his father as he walked past him, now heading for the big bay window, ready to fly off into the sky.
He froze however, as another scream echoed through the home. He realized then that it was probably the girl he had seen being dragged in here. A girl who looked so familiar. Slowly, he turned back around to face his father. "The screaming." He said simply. "I saw the girl wing brought in. I know her, don't I?"
Lucius looked up from the broken pieces of wood in his hands that were part of his once, 'whole' wand, glaring back at his son again. After a couple seconds of just the two staring at each other, Lucius nodded his head. "Her name is Luna Lovegood." Draco's eyes traveled past his father and to the door, but he didn't move, just stared at it, wishing he had the guts to go in there and save her. But like his mother said. He had a family of his own he had to think of now.
"What son? Not going to storm in a save her like all of your heroic new friends?" Lucius had a smirk on his lips.
Draco looked back over at him, knowing his father was just trying to get a ride out of him.
Without another word, Draco transformed into his Animagus, spreading his wings and blasting through the bay window, heading west. Heading home.
Draco shook his head, feeling tears coming to his eyes as the memory swept so vividly into his thoughts; the scent of damp floors in the dungeons swirling around, he could swear he was still there.
"She wouldn't let me save her. She said the Death Eaters had stopped looking for us, that if I took her they would start again." He sniffled, looking down at the ground like he had from the second he walked out of this room to begin with. "I didn't have a choice."
"She's still back in the manor?" Her voice was shaky. "You left her there?"
Mind now racing with thoughts on how to get her out of that godforsaken place; having experienced torture and the cruel taste of the dungeons first hand; she knew all too well what Narcissa was going through. "She doesn't deserve to be put to death. Dexter can get her out. We can have Dominic or George send for-"
"Izzy... we can't." Draco said sadly, shaking his head. "The place was crawling with death eaters when I went. It would be suicide for anybody to go in there and try and save her." A tear fell and hit the sheets. "She's my mother and I want her to live, I want her to be okay but she was right. If I took her we'd be in danger again."
Isabella stood up shaking her head. "No." She spoke with determination. "That woman has done more for me than anyone ever did. I'm not going to let her be put on death row, let alone die because of us! Screw Danger! I cannot, will not, live with myself knowing I was the cause of her death."
"Please, Izzy, calm down." Draco took her hand in his, his mind no longer on the fact that he should be keeping his distance from her. "I felt the same way you're acting right now. But... I spoke to my father as well. He may believe that I'll come back and try and save her. He'll be on the look out now."
"I will not calm down!" Isabella pulled back her hand, fists shaking with anger. Her eyes becoming black like Dominic's were a little while ago. "Let him try!" She growled, uttering a sound that was more animal than human.
Draco stared at her, not really sure what to say. He never knew she felt such a strong connection towards his mother.
"Izzy, please, if you keep yelling, Toretto and Weasley are going to come up here thinking I'm attacking you again." He sighed, before continuing. "And speaking of me attacking you, what do you think is going to happen if we go over there? My father will use me to hurt you or better yet capture you and hold you hostage. He thinks your still pregnant Izzy. And he's not happy about it."
"I never said We." She corrected, feeling herself beginning to phase. She was breathing loudly, clenching her hands inward, as they began to turn black. Isabella went towards the wall, leaning her forehead upon it and shutting her eyes tight. That was when she let out an inhumane shriek.
"I-Izzy?" Draco got to his feet, nervously watching her. It was then that he regretted giving her his wand. "Izzy, please, just calm down." He said nervously still, taking a couple steps toward the door.
Dominic burst into the room, catching sight of his sister in the corner of the room, like a volcano ready to erupt.
"Oh no. Not again." Dominic said, running over to her and stealing the wand out from under her and throwing it across the room. Wrapping his arms around Isabella and holding onto her tightly.
"Calm down Aria! This is not the place to do this!" He yelled.
She morphed into her wolf form and went ballistic. Barking and growling like a wild animal.
"Don't stand there! Get out! Or you'll be killed!"
The siblings were both animals, clawing and pawing at each-other fiercely. Isabella nipping at Dominic's neck and flesh and he was keeping her in check, or at least trying to, deflecting her attacks. The two were now a large tumbling ball of fur, and it was hard to determine who was who and where each Toretto was. The roars, howls and growls, were deafening, causing one's ears to buzz.
Draco stood in the hallway, eyes wide as he stared at George who had hobbled into the room. "We have to do something!" He yelled through all the commotion. "They're going to kill each other!"
"Do you think you have a better chance to separate them?" George shook his head, "Trust me, you'll sooner lose an arm and a leg. I mean look at them." and pointed to the siblings; that were literally locked onto one another. "You think you've seen Izzy mad before, then you obviously have never seen her like this."
"These walls. Are they sound proof?" Draco asked, looking at the walls and then back at Izzy and Dom. "Can the muggles hear anything going on in here?" He had an idea, a way to stop them, but he wasn't going to risk their safety for it.
George carefully bent down and grabbed a chair, quickly putting it in front of him and using it as a shield. "Should be. Why?"
"I made her this pissed off, so I'm going to stop her." He took a couple steps back from the door, making room to run inside the room and transform right away.
"You should probably stand back." Draco said before sprinting into the room, morphing into a dragon and letting out a loud roar, over powering the wolf and lion. As gently yet as strongly as he could; Draco stuck his head between the two siblings, and gave Izzy a shove away from Dom, bending his neck down in front of him and looking at Izzy daringly. "Stop it, Isabella!"
Isabella howled loudly in protest, baring her teeth, turning her attention to Draco now, looking ready to kill. Her nails dug into the floor slightly as she went for Dom a second time, ignoring the Dragon's heeded warning and order, ramming into Draco's neck and maneuvering around him. Dominic hunched his shoulders, ready to protect himself if necessary. They didn't look injured, just on the offensive.
Draco gave her a shove with his tail as she made an attempt to run around him. Her back side slammed into a wall and Draco quickly turned to face her, still protecting Dom. She yelped, lying on the ground for a few seconds as Draco made his way over to her.
"I know you're mad." He said, lowering his head to her level and speaking calmly, trying to calm her down. "It's okay. You're allowed to be mad. But you have to stop. You're going to hurt someone."
Shaking her head and ruffling her fur, the siblings glared at one another, panting hard, and looking exhausted. Isabella looked a lot more tired than Dom did, as he sat on his haunches and watched her, breathing heavily, but not saying a word. She snorted and averted her gaze to that of the wall beside her and away from everyone.
Draco noticed her calm down, took note of her sudden saddened expression and with a small sigh and all the hope in the world that she wouldn't tear him to pieces, he transformed back. He stared at her for a few seconds before slowly walking towards her, his hand extended, wanting to comfort her.
She heard him approaching and instead left the room, shoving Dom in the side and walking out.
George watched her leave and furrowing his brow, decided to follow her, Roxy proceeded to do the same.
"Do you want me to take you home?" George asked, in a light and soft tone. "I could take you to our spot remember? When we were kids?"
Draco had followed after them standing a few feet away and crossing his arms over his chest. He trusted Izzy around George, but that didn't mean he trusted George around her. He still hated the bloke.
"I don't want her going anywhere without me. She's hurt, mentally and physically, and I believe my father could be looking for her." He wasn't sure if that last part was true, but it gave him another excuse.
George whipped around, now realizing he had been eavesdropped on. "For Merlin's sake Malfoy. Let the girl breathe will you. You're suffocating her." He exasperated.
Isabella left the two boys to bicker before going with Roxy into the sitting room. What she saw inside shocked her, and her eyes gleamed.
"And besides you don't even know where we're going, who says your father is going to be looking for her there? At the-" He was about to open his mouth again when the sound of music being played stopped him, and he smiled. "I see she's found the piano."
Draco took a couple steps towards George, wanting to go and speak with Izzy, or at the very least just be in the same room as her. He knew how much playing the instrument made her happy, so he wouldn't interrupt her. He stopped when he was only about a foot from George, looking him up and down.
"You're right, I don't know where you would be going. And seeing as I'm her husband, I should know, don't you think?" He paused for a few seconds. "I find it very inappropriate for my wife's ex-boyfriend to be trying to get her to go with him to a place where they have memories together. I have no problem with you two being friends, but let me make this clear Weasley. If you so much as even try and persuade Isabella that I'm not right for her, I will transform into a dragon and burn you to death."
"Are you listening to yourself right now?" George lowered his voice, "I'm not trying to persuade her to leave you, you dolt! Besides even if I tried, I know she'd pick you." He sighed, continuing to hear Izzy play from the other end of the room, "To the victor go the spoils, right?"
"I'm just warning you." Draco said, looking him up and down one more time before following his ears towards the piano. When he found it, he stepped into the door frame of the room. He leaned against it, crossing his arms over his chest and staring at Izzy. She had her back to him, and even seemed to be swaying slightly as she played. And Draco couldn't help but smile.
Isabella was too caught up in her own world to pay him any mind. She stopped for a moment, after her fingers had warmed up and then moved on to a more complicated piece. Hands crossing over one another and fingers scrambling all around the piano in a harmonious and symbolic relationship. She uttered a laugh, a small one, unable to hide the smile on her face as all her problems seemed to melt away into her finger tips and emerge as a song, leaving her body.
Draco's smile grew as he heard her laugh, and he pushed himself off the doorframe and started walking towards her. Without a word to her, he took a seat at the bench next to her, staring down at the keys as she pressed them, creating the beautiful sound that was currently gracing his ears.
She slammed her hands on the keys in fright, jumping, and turned to her right, spooked. "Don't do that." She said, after realizing it was Draco who had sat beside her.
"Sorry." Draco mumbled, now looking down at her. "I didn't want to interrupt you." He gave her a small smile, hoping she would be able to forgive him for everything he had done that night.
"Well you were going to kill me with that heart attack you gave me just now."
Silence came around, rearing its ugly head yet again.
"Maybe I should just go then." Draco stood up from the bench, not knowing what else to say to his wife who was obviously not in the mood to talk to him. "Sorry I scared you." He said, starting to head for the doorway.
Draco closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair and letting out a sigh. This wasn't supposed to be like this. They had always fought, but they made up just as quickly. This felt different, almost unforgiving. And Draco briefly wondered if he had really messed things up between the two of them. He made his way into the kitchen, wanting, no... needing a cup of tea to calm him down.
Roxy laid her paws on the keys, hitting a few sour notes and then smiling up at Izzy, as she sat on the bench, wagging her tail.
"You want me to play some more?" She said, giving her a little scratch near her neck. Roxy gave a soft bark and rested her head on her master's lap; licked her lips, closing her eyes. Izzy smiled again, and continued to play.
"Only because you asked me to." She explained, eyes feeling heavy, but awake all at once. Her head coming closer and closer to the keys as the time passed, and playing starting to slow. The dog seemed to have the right idea. As quickly as the music began, minutes later; after a couple straggling notes, it stopped. And the two were fast asleep, Isabella's head hitting the piano keys, in a d flat tone.
Draco had finished making his tea and wanting to lie down and get some rest, he grabbed it in his hand and left for one of the bedrooms. When he passed by the room with the piano, he froze; spotting Izzy laying in what looked like an extremely uncomfortable position. He sighed, walking into the room and straight to his wife. He placed his tea cup down on top of the piano and then bent down and ran a hand through the fur on top of Roxy's head, giving the dog a small smile before standing up properly. He stared at Izzy for a few seconds before grabbing her up off the bench gently and carrying her from the room bridal style, and up the stairs.
Roxy followed, dashing up ahead of them and bringing back two sticks in her mouths, and holding them out for Draco to take, as she sat by the entrance to the room Isabella was in initially.
Draco smiled at Roxy, walking over to her and entering the room she was now sitting by. He gently placed Izzy down on the bed, pulling the covers up and over her body.
"I love you." He said quietly before placing a kiss on her cheek.
He turned to face their dog, kneeling down in front of her and taking the two sticks, their wands, from her mouth.
"Good girl." He said, patting her on the top of the head. He placed Izzy's wand on the bedside table and then shoved his own in his pocket before walking back towards the door.
"Stay here with mummy, Roxy." Draco said before walking from the room and heading for another spare room.
As Draco left the room, Roxy jumped on the bed, right beside Isabella. Turning in a circle a few times before finally laying down and keeping her head to the doorway, watching for any and everyone that would walk past.
He wanted to sleep with Izzy more then anything, hold her close, but he was still exhausted, and didn't want to chance having another dream with his father barking orders at him.
Dominic carefully peeked in and caught sight of her sleeping; Roxy stared at the door eying Dominic with caution. It was obvious she still didn't trust him, seeing as she gave him a short and low growl.
"Alright. Alright. I'm leaving." He closed the door behind him and went looking for Draco.
Draco walked into one of the spare bedrooms, spotting an owl siting on the bedframe. It was then he remembered he was supposed to owl Alonso and let him know that he found Izzy. He approached the desk, finding a quill and a piece of parchment. He dipped the quill in an ink well and quickly scribbled a letter.
Al,
I found her. She's safe. We won't be returning home and for the purpose of keeping not only us safe, but you as well, I can't tell you where we're going. Take care of Griffin and make sure he doesn't run away from you anymore. And while I still don't think you deserve to be in her life, thank you for caring for her when I wasn't there.
D.M.
Draco folded the note up after reading over it again, satisfied with the safety of what he had enclosed. He tied it to the leg of the owl and gave him a quick pet on the beak before opening up the window and letting him fly off, staring of into the night sky until he disappeared
A quite knock was placed upon the door, "Malfoy. It's Dom. Can I come in?"
Draco turned to face the door, raising an eyebrow in curiousity. "Yeah, sure." He said, walking over to the door and opening it for him.
Dominic walked inside and closed it behind him, tucking his hands in his pockets and leaning against the wall. "Have you got enough supplies to make the trip to Romania?"
Draco shook his head. "No, we should be fine. We didn't have much anyway. I packed everything away before I came here." He said as he took a seat on the edge of the bed, crossing his arms over his chest and staring at Dom.
Dominic nodded looking across the room and then back to Draco, "We'll be leaving in the morning." He shifted his weight around his two feet briefly, "Thanks. For this afternoon."
Draco nodded, now looking at the ground. "I'm sorry. For what I did to Izzy. It's eating me alive that I did that to her. You have no idea." He sighed, shaking his head. "I just don't want you to think I'm anything like my father. I love your sister. I would never hurt her."
"So you say." Dominic said under his breath.
"Enough of this. I could listen to you explain yourself all day, but in the end, actions speak louder than words. I'm not going to repeat myself a dozen times Malfoy. I'll say this one last time. You hurt her again and I won't take sympathy on you, even if you are her husband. It'll be straight to Azkaban for you; I'll make certain of it." He warned.
Draco licked his lips nervously. He knew that that might not be possible, that he had no control over his dreams. "I understand what you're saying, I really do. And I get that you hate me. That I can understand more then anything, but I just need you to understand that I can't control it. I wish I could... but I can't."
"Explain." Dom demanded, crossing his arms, and looking like an overprotective father. "Just how can't you control this?"
"I told you." Draco said, sitting forward more on the bed. "My father, he caught me and Izzy, hated the way I had turned out. Blames Izzy for it. He brainwashed me, made me into the person he always wanted me to be. He made me think that I needed to kill her, and I almost did. But something happened and I remembered who I was and I got us out of there. But sometimes, and it's rare, I see my father in my dreams. And it's... so real. It's like he is control of my mind, I have no will over my body. He forces hatred into my heart for her and that my one objective at that moment is to kill her. When I wake, its the only thing I want to do."
The older Toretto was silent, taking this all in, without so much as another word, he nodded and walked to the door. "Be ready in the morning." Was all he said, before departing.
Draco stared at the now empty door, not knowing what to make of his conversation with Dom. He shook his head, pulling his wand out of his pocket and locking the door before pulling the sheets off the bed and laying down in it. He threw the covers back over him and closed his eyes, letting out a sigh and hoping against everything that his father didn't come to him in his dreams again.
Morning came again, and the ruckus around the halls was creating a lot of noise. It was still quite early that morning, around 5 or 6, sun just beginning to rise slowly, letting just slivers of light hit the buildings behind them and allowing them just enough light to see.
"Are we really going to ride them all the way there?"
"Yeah, seeing as neither you, nor I, can fly; figured that was the easiest way. You'll be riding your own."
Isabella's face brightened, and she squealed with delight.
Draco groaned, rubbing his eyes as he sat up in bed, waking from the commotion going on around the house. He threw his legs over the side, stretching, before standing up and starting to make his way towards the voices that he knew belonged to Izzy and Dom. He reached the kitchen before stopping in the doorway, staring at brother and sister and waiting for someone to notice that he was standing there as well, still feeling out of place among the group.
Dominic cleared his throat, "Morning."
Isabella stared at her brother with curiosity, before slowly turning around and catching sight of Draco watching them.
"Hi." She said, going back to her conversation with Dom.
"So when are we leaving? I'm excited to see Charlie again."
"As soon as Malfoy woke up." He added in quickly, throwing a nod in Draco's direction.
Draco stared at the back of Izzy's head, lowering his own slightly at how distant she was treating him. "I just have to grab the bag from my room." Draco said softly.
Dominic nodded and watched Draco and his sudden change in attitude. "Get your stuff too Izzy, not to mention your dog." He smiled, "We need to transfigure her into an object again to make her easier to carry."
"Wait, you're going to transfigure Roxy?" Draco asked, perking his head up. "Can't we just carry her as she is?"
Dom shook his head, "She'll scare our friends, and it's not a very good idea to have them all spooked if they're going to help us get there."
"S-She's a dog." Draco stuttered, confused. "Are the people helping us to get to Romania seriously afraid of a dog?"
Dominic chuckled, "You'll see soon enough." His grin was very mischievous, "This will be fun." He whispered, turned around.
Izzy returned a few moments later with Roxy, who was very happy to see her master and jumped on Draco, giving him a hug.
Draco smiled at Roxy, bending down and wrapping his arms around her, patting her on top of the head and letting her kiss him on the face.
"Alright, calm down, girl." Draco said, standing up and turning to Dom. "I just need to grab the one bag."
Izzy and Dom waited by the kitchen for Draco to return. "What's Draco going to do when he finds out that we're riding Hippogriffs to your place? Not to mention that we have to go to the burrow to get them." She said in a hushed tone.
"He's going to freak out. And I'll be watching the show commence." Dominic sneered.
Izzy gave him a hard slap to his arm.
"Wow that really hurt Aria." He drawled, rolling his eyes, "Did the feather you just threw on my arm come from a canary?"
Draco walked into the room at that moment, throwing his bag over his shoulder. "Alright, I'm ready." he said, patting his leg and watching as Roxy came running over to him, jumping up on him and licking his face again.
Dominic's smiled grew even wider at the fact that Draco had just come back into the room.
"Will you at least control yourself?" She warned, grabbing onto Dom's arm.
"We're going to have to apparate to the place where our friends are." Isabella explained, "Then we'll go and leave for Romania from there."
"Alright." Draco glanced down at Roxy who was now sitting down staring up at him, her tongue sticking out. "Do we really have to transfigure her?"
"And how exactly is she going to hold onto you? She doesn't have hands; Roxy will slip right off."
The brother, looked over to the dog and shook his head, "Not right now. As soon as we meet our friends, she will. She's fine for now." He sighed, "But we have to hurry, we're losing daylight."
Isabella nodded and called Roxy over to her, grabbing her collar.
Draco walked over to Izzy, looking at her face to face for the first time in what felt like forever before putting his hand on her shoulder.
"Let's go then." Draco said, glancing at Izzy one more time, hoping she would just look back at him.
She breathed deep and stared straight ahead as Dom within seconds disapparated. Their bodies feeling like they were in some type of suspended animation. They couldn't breathe, think, or see. Everything was black and quick. It wasn't long before they landed in a small field.
At a distance, you could see what seemed like a decapitated old house, looking ready to collapse at the slightest gust of wind.
Draco looked around when they had landed, slightly confused at first as to where they were until he saw the building. He had never seen the building before, but he had heard his father talk about it with disgust on many of an occasion. "Is that the burrow?" He asked, addressing his question to Dom.
"Yeah, but how did you-Never mind. I don't want to know."
Dominic started moving to a secluded part of the field, "We're not going there. Follow me." A familiar screeching sound came about through the vegetation to where they were headed.
"Please don't freak out." She mumbled to herself, looking over her shoulder for second.
Draco froze when they made it through a clearing, his eyes going wide and mouth falling open. He was silent for a few seconds.
"This is a joke right?" He asked, on the verge of having a freak out. "Please tell me this is a joke."
Dominic crossed his arms and smirked, taking note of his sister already going to the creatures.
"How did you think we were getting there? On pink fluffy ponies?"
Isabella walked to the band of Hippogriffs. There were two of them, one looking more wild than the other, and naturally Izzy went straight for the one that of course, looked dangerous. It reared before her and shrieked, pawing at the ground as it touched dirt again. This brought back memories of her third year; when Draco was sent to the wing for a so-called Hippogriff attack. She bowed before the animal, trying to be as polite as possible.
The hippogriff snorted, its breath coming misting in the morning air. The two stood off against each other, Izzy looked up at the Hippogriff taking note of it bowing in front of her, and smiled, going towards it, and stroking its beak as it purred.
Dominic's voice shot up behind him. "Well, go on. It's your turn Malfoy. You aren't afraid are you?"
"Of course I'm bloody afraid!" Draco admitted, staring at the hippogriff in fright. "One of those things tried to kill me three years ago. There is NO way I'm going to ride on top of one. I'll just transform, fly on my own. Then I can carry Roxy and we don't have to worry about transforming her."
The wilder of the beasts, knelt down and Isabella climbed onto its back; standing up on its four legs again, and coming in the direction of the boys. Dominic was unphazed and merely bowed, before it.
"This is Chess. He's the brute of the bunch. His buddy over there is Grim."
"It's not so bad Draco. He's very gentle." Isabella insisted, stroking its neck. It snorted again staring Draco down, and looking angry. "Bow if you know what's good for you. You're making him angry."
Draco stared at the beast with fright, hands clenched at his sides, shaking. He opened his mouth to say something, and wanted to bow, but found himself frozen at the sight of the animal coming towards him.
"I... I'm really not comfortable with this." He said as he watched the animal only get closer and closer to him.
"Draco, bow!" Isabella exclaimed, as the animal's claws were pawing at the ground, bringing up dirt. Little jumps were made by the Chess as he was looking ready to rear again; its claws going straight for Draco. She saw Draco wasn't making a move towards the beast and looked to Dom helplessly.
"Do something!"
Dom quickly walked towards Draco, shoving him out of the way and bowing to the hippogriff, hoping he didn't notice the change in who was standing before him. He didn't bother to look at the Slytherin who was now lying down in the dirt from being pushed over. What he thought would have been rather humorous, turned more serious when he realized just how frightened Draco was of the animal.
Chess reared, trotting in place before Dom. Moving swiftly around the area, now galloping around and emitting whinny's.
Isabella held onto its neck, maneuvering him to where she wanted him to go; walking him out in the hopes of tiring and calming him down.
Dom saw that she had the animal in control and went to where he had knocked Draco over.
"Why didn't you bow? Don't you know they're incredibly proud? The slightest rude gesture will set one off." He sighed, stretching his arm out to Draco.
Draco took it, allowing Dom to help him up. "I-I froze. I can't be near these things. They scare the bloody hell out of me." He glanced over at the one that Izzy was riding. "I'm not as brave as you two. I can't just face my fears head on."
"Ari. Bring Chess over here!"
Isabella nodded and started to bring him right over to where Dominic and Draco were, but making sure to keep the Hippogriff's focus on the area around them; instead of her husband.
As Dominic gave Izzy a nod, he asked, "Are you sure you can fly there?"
Draco didn't take his eyes of the hippogriff as he answered Dom. "Positive. If I flew to Canada I think I can manage Romania." He took a step back as the hippogriff only got closer to him. "I'll stay behind a little. You know, so I don't spook them."
Isabella pulled back on the Hippogriff's neck just a smidgen, "Chess. Aspetta." and he stopped. "Bravo Ragazzo." She patted his head and he purred again.
"Ready to go?"
"Just a sec Ari." Her brother went to the other Hippogriff, and jumped on its back, leading the horselike creature to Draco.
"Probably better anyway. Seeing as the Hippogriff Aria's riding is mine, and he only responds to commands in Italian. Makes him a lot harder for someone to steal." He pointed to the sky, and gave the animal a light kick in the side, and it started to gallop covering ground quickly before shooting up into the air and into flight.
Izzy turned over her shoulder, "Be careful."
She gave Draco a light smile and kicked Chess as well, "Andiamo!" She yelled and the Hippogriff followed Grim into the skies.
Roxy, who had been shielded behind a tree with a spell for her own safety, whined as her mum took off without her. She barked, hoping to grab Draco's attention, so they wouldn't forget about her.
Draco had smiled slightly back at Izzy when she had done the same to him, not able to help himself, but quickly turned his attention to Roxy when he heard her bark. He got down on his knees and rubbed her ears in his hands.
"We're not leaving you behind. Just don't freak out, alright?" He gave her a kiss on the top of the head, taking a couple steps back and then transforming. He stood up on his two back legs, grabbing Roxy as gently as he could and pressing her up against his chest. He spread his wings wide and then pushed up off the ground, soaring into the air after Isabella and Dom.
"Let me just say that you're a lot bigger than I thought you'd be." Roxy hollered over the wind as it swept into the sides of her face, blowing her fur. "I mean I've seen Izzy phase before, but-this is surreal. But then again I've come to accept the fact that everything in my life is out of the ordinary."
Draco looked down at his dog in curiousity, raising an eyebrow at her. "Y-You know about us being animals already?" Draco stampered. He laughed despite his confusion, shaking his head. "I'm amazed by how much happened in the one day I was gone."
"Well-" Roxy paused, "-It's kind of a long story. I have known for a while now." She licked her lips, staring at the strange winged horses with beaks soaring in front of her. "When I was a puppy, remember how I used to howl and whine at night, and then suddenly stopped out of nowhere?"
Draco laughed again. "Izzy." He mumbled under his breath. "I can't believe I never thought of that." He lowered his head to look at Roxy again. "It's going to be weird to think of you as a pet after talking to you like this, you know."
"Think of me as a friend." Roxy said thoughtfully, "And for the record; you always seemed so tired all the time, so Izzy thought it was the only way to stop me from waking you up. Why did you think I never once woke up on your side of the bed, and Izzy would sometimes end up sleeping downstairs in the guest room with me?"
Draco sighed. Thinking of the way Izzy cared about him so much, about the way she had tried to make things better for him only made him feel worse about attacking her all the time. And only reminded him of how she wouldn't even look him in the eye anymore. "It never occurred to me that that was what she would be doing." Draco said, his mood now more somber.
"Isabella did this for you. It was all for you." She sighed, "She missed you a lot you know. The entire time during those few days you were gone; She wouldn't stop talking about you to Charlotte. And then when-" Roxy's voice was softer now, "-When it happened. She. She changed. All she did was cry and hurt herself. Griffin and I hid her knife from her as best we could, but she always ended up finding it."
"We're going to try and help her, make it so she won't hurt herself anymore." He sighed. "I just don't know how. And...and then I'm not helping either with the whole... you know."
"Night Terrors? Yeah. She warned me about those too." Roxy have Draco a small smile, "We're going to help her overcome this. I know we will. Give her time. She'll heal eventually."
Draco smiled back at her. "Thanks, Roxy." He let out a sigh.
"She calls my episodes night terrors?" He asked, looking back up at the hippogriffs that were flying ahead of them.
"Well they're not nightmares." Roxy shrugged.
"I don't like those things." She stated, shaking her head at the beasts. "They seem dangerous and unstable. What if she falls off?"
"I don't either. One attacked me a couple years back when Izzy and I were in school. But she won't fall off. If she does, I'll grab her before she hits the ground." Draco paused. "Wish she would have just rode on my back. But as much as the hate the guy, Weasley was right. I can't suffocate her."
"At least the Weasel isn't here. Can you imagine what it would have been like for him to come too? I swear he reminds me of that mangy dog that stayed while Isabella's other family was at the house. Can't stand the mutt. Not to mention that so called Dad of hers. If you can even call him a father."
Draco laughed. He couldn't help it. Roxy was just like him in every way. "Griffin's not that bad when you get used to him. I will admit that he did get on my nerves at first when he came here. But you should thank him, you know. If it wasn't for him I never would have bought you. And you wouldn't be the only dog with opportunity to talk to their owners face to face." Draco laughed slightly, but then stopped at remembering Alonso. "As for Alonso, he's not her father. And he never will be."
