Everything Changes
Despite how the race ended, Tyson got the appreciation from the camp he deserved. It was hard to call the Cyclopes who help rebuild a well design Chariot and gave his brother a shield a monster.
That's right. Tyson gave Percy a shield. It turned out the little project Tyson was working on was a wrist watch that turns into a shield when you press the stop button.
After the race, Percy started calling Tyson brother more than he did before the quest, which showed how much Percy had grown attach to the idea of having a cyclops for a brother.
Naruto even noticed that Annabeth was easier on Tyson. She no longer treated Tyson like a monster that could eat them any second.
Naruto never did find out if Percy let Grover remove their empathy link, but Naruto doubt that Percy would let Grover do it. If it wasn't for the Empathy link, Grover would have died and they wouldn't have found the Golden Fleece.
Hopefully now that the Golden Fleece is retrieved, it would be easier for Satyrs to search for Pan. If not—well, at least the Golden Fleece would help satyrs find their way back to camp. Not that many of them had too much trouble finding their way back before.
The night after the race, Tyson paid Naruto a visit and told him the news.
"You're leaving?" Naruto asked.
Tyson nodded. "Daddy offered me a job in the forges of the Cyclopes. I haven't told brother yet.
"Don't worry about it. I'm sure Percy will understand—eventually." Naruto hesitated on the last part as he didn't know how Percy will react.
Tyson gave Naruto a big bear hug. "I want to thank you," Tyson said. "You were the first person to accept me, even when brother was struggling to. I'll always remember you."
Tyson cried a little before letting go. "I'm sorry I can't come with you to see your home."
"It's okay." Naruto responded. "There be other visits. Besides, since you'll get to see Poseidon maybe he can arrange you to come to the Elemental Nations once in a while."
Tyson grinned as he liked the thought.
…
As Naruto thought, Percy took the news hard. But he was still happy for Tyson. The two brothers said their goodbyes before Tyson went into the ocean.
That night Annabeth was on night guard duty at Thalia's tree and left Malcom in charge. But Naruto was sound asleep in his bunk minutes before his uncle called lights out.
That night Naruto dreamt of the leaf village—the trees, the village, the mountain with the faces of the four Hokages, the giant wall that surrounds the village for protection.
Naruto never realized how much he missed the village until Chiron told him he was allowed to go home for a while. This world was okay, and his apartment and the camp were great, but Naruto wasn't raised in New York, and although he had family in Camp Half-Blood, Naruto missed those he left behind in the leaf village.
Naturally, Naruto was the first awake, first to get dress, first to leave the cabin. However, when he made it outside, he found Grover rushing over to him.
"Naruto, thank the gods you're already awake." Grover gasped.
"Grover, I wake up at this time almost every morning. You know that," Naruto reminded him.
"Right!" Grover's ears turned pink. "Come on! We got to wake Percy."
"Wait what's going on?" Naruto asked.
"Something happened on the hill while Annabeth was on guard duty," Grover said.
"What kind of something?"
"I can't explain. You have to see it yourself."
"Okay… listen, you get Percy, I'll check on Annabeth," Naruto said.
Obviously forgetting that he wanted Naruto with him, Grover nodded as Naruto ran toward half blood hill.
Hinata was out of Hermes Cabin, dressed in an orange camp Half-Blood t-shirt and jeans when she noticed Naruto. "N-Naruto, w-what's going on?"
"Something happened at Half-Blood Hill," Naruto said. "I'm going to go check."
"W-wait, Naruto!" Hinata headed back in Hermes Cabin and came back out with her bow and quiver full of arrows. Sadly, Naruto didn't wait as he was already halfway to the hill.
If there's one thing no one can say about Naruto, it's that if he wants to, he can keep running without slowing down. Not even when he's running up Half Blood Hill, which was the biggest hill in camp.
Most demigods started breathing heavily if they ran up half-blood hill without slowing down, but Naruto ran up and down the hill during his morning runs that the need to slow down hardly ever becomes a problem.
Naruto reached the base of Thalia's tree where the Golden Fleece was still hanging on the lowest branch where Naruto placed it. Seeing it there was a relief for Naruto, but something else caught his concern.
Next to it was two girls. One was unconscious and lying on the ground, and the other girl in Greek armor was kneeling next to her.
"Annabeth!" Naruto shouted as he rushed toward them.
The armored girl looked up, revealing to be Annabeth.
"Naruto! The Fleece… It... she… just suddenly there…"
By then the rest of the campers had started showing up. Chiron was the first arrive with Grover and Percy on his back with Hinata right behind him.
"The Fleece healed the tree," Chiron said, his voice ragged. "And the poison was not the only thing it purged."
Naruto knelt down on the other side of the girl to get a good look of her.
The girl had short black hair and freckles across her nose. She was built like a long-distance runner, lithe and strong, and she wore clothes that were somewhere between punk and Goth—a black T-shirt, black tattered jeans, and a leather jacket with buttons from a bunch of bands.
The girl looked about a year older than Naruto, but other than that, Naruto recognized her from the photo Annabeth showed him last summer: Thalia.
It didn't make sense. Thalia should be four years older than Naruto, not a year older. But there was no doubt in Naruto's mind it was her.
"Hinata! We need nectar and Ambrosia!" Naruto responded. "Go get it! Quick!"
"R-Right!" Hinata ran down the hill toward the Big House.
"Percy, help me out here!" Naruto ordered.
Percy got off Chiron and rushed over to help Naruto set Thalia on the tree.
When they did, Thalia took a shaky breath and coughed, as if it was the first breath she took in years (which was true). She opened her eyes, revealing to have electric blue eyes as she stared at Naruto and Percy in confusion. "Who—"
"My name is Naruto Uzumaki. This here is Percy Jackson." Naruto pointed to Percy. "What was the last thing you remember?"
Thalia blinked. "I was fighting the furies and was fatally wounded. I was dying."
"It's okay now," Percy said. "You're not dying."
"Can you tell me your name?" Naruto asked.
Thalia looked at Naruto bewildered. "Of course. I am Thalia," she said. "Daughter of Zeus."
A/N: Sorry readers but this is not the end of the story.
