I finally finished this chapter. I took a lot to figure it out, but I did it! Yesh!
Anyways, I would like to say I don't own Beyblade and silverstarr owns Athena.
Enjoy!
Kai stared out the car window, fighting with himself inside. His anger grew as the trees went by. His fists tightened on the steering wheel as his thoughts became more hectic. He suddenly slammed on the brakes, halting in the middle of the deserted road. He reached for his phone, but stopped.
'Would it be a good idea to tell them now?' He questioned himself.
He took in a deep breath, but continued to grab his phone and dialed Tala's number. It rang twice before he heard a click and heavy pants.
"What do you want?" Came Tala's voice.
"We need to talk." Kai spoke quickly.
"What about? I'm busy right now." Tala turned to Athena who currently was trying to catch her breath from the run.
"The BBA has one of them." He emphasized the last word.
There was a pause.
"Where are you?"
"I'm on my way back to the house. Be outside in 10 minutes."
"Should I tell Bryan and Spencer?" He turned his head, forbidding Athena to hear.
"No," he said all too fast. "This is something we need to talk about first."
"I'll see you in ten minutes then." Tala hung up the phone and turned back to Athena. "We'll have to finish this tomorrow. I have to run into town with Kai."
Athena wiped her forehead with the back of her hand. "What for?"
He shook his head. "Nothing important. Just a few groceries."
Athena cocked her eyebrow. "We went shopping two days ago."
Tala hesitated, almost forgetting about her built in lie detector. "We'll be back by dinner."
"Don't be late. It's my turn to cook tonight." She turned away from him, still suspicious, but willing to let it slide.
Tala breathed out in relief and walked around the house to wait for Kai.
Tala thumbed at his door handle as Kai drove, leaving them in silence. For several minutes it remained quite before Kai pulled off to the side of the road, turning off the car.
"We already know that Boris was going to come back." Kai started. "It was deciding when he would that has been the problem."
Tala nodded, listening.
"The BBA was able to capture one of the men, David."
Kai watched as Tala scowled.
"And?" Tala said through gritted teeth.
"Mr. Dickenson had me speak with him." Kai tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "Boris paid them to kidnap her."
Kai paused. Tala stared at the younger teen.
"He paid them to rape her."
Tala's anger grew within him, but he kept his anger contained as he began to think.
"Why would Boris want that? How could he pay someone to rape her?" Kai vented.
"Kai, calm down. There's nothing we can do about it now." Tala said.
"But we can find them and make them pay for it."
Tai sat on her windowsill, watching Athena practice with Bryan. Athena had improved over the last while, but still had much to do. Her balance was still off and her attacks always too slow. Tai pressed her forehead to the glass, her fever letting up for a moment. She groaned and went back to bed, hoping by morning she would feel better. She sighed as she started to think of Tala. She frowned when she recalled her confession, but quickly brushed it away as her head fell to her pillows. She breathed out and attempted to let sleep take her away.
The phone rang.
Tai groaned and threw a pillow over her ears to muffle the sharp tone it let out. It rang three more times before it stopped. She yawned and went back to relaxing. A dream took over her mind the moment she slipped to the darkness.
The dream opened up to a desert on the edge of a receding forest. The wind blew, picking up the dust. Tai covered her eyes as the sand tapped against her face. The breeze was hot against her skin even as the sun fell behind the sand dunes. Many tan tents were pitched next to large excavation site that had been the focus for the last two months. She pondered for a minute, feeling the pull towards the site. She shook it off as she made her way to where her tent normally stood. Beside it was one, she hadn't expected to see.
"What's her tent still doing here?" Tai spoke out loud.
She began walking towards the mysterious tent and stopped when she heard shouting from inside.
"You don't get it? Do you, Sam?" Tyler's voice.
"No! You don't get it! I've waited for you and you fall for another girl. And not just any other girl, you fell for Tai!" A female voice came.
"Sam?" Tai questioned.
Tai threw open the cloth door and the scenery changed. It was raining in the middle of a quiet street.
"No!" A scream echoed off the buildings. No one was around to hear.
'That's my voice,' Tai thought.
Tai quickly turned, recognizing the scene. She frantically scanned the area, begging to herself that it wouldn't be what she thought it would be.
"You have to get Salemite out of here," the female's voice came again.
Tears pricked at Tai's eyes as she finally laid eyes on the thing she didn't want to see. Tai's dream self lay crouched over a beautiful girl lying on the ground. Her short red hair stood out the most against her paled skin.
Tai could feel tears flow freely down her face. "No…"
"I can't leave you here! We can get you help!" Tai's dream self screamed. She held onto the girl's hand, blood falling from the girl's arm. "Somebody! Help!"
"You have to, Tai. If they get you now, everything we have fought for will be lost. You must run." The girl's voice was slowly becoming softer with every breath. "I don't have much longer. Please. Go."
"Sam! I can't do this without you!" Tai cried over the wounded girl's body.
"Tai..." Sam said, catching Tai's eyes. "Remember all that I have taught you. Remember what we stand for. You, me, Salemite, and Amythrius. You must guard the four great bit-beasts. They will be needed in the very near future. You and I both know this."
Tai's dream self began to audibly sob. "I can't let you go…"
"Do me a favor, will you?" Sam's eyes closed. "Tell Tyler I will always love him. No matter what has happened in the past."
Sam's hand fell from Tai's grip.
"Sam!"
Tai awoke from the vivid nightmare, her grasp firmly holding her pillow. She blinked several times, trying to push back the tears. She finally wiped at her eyes and noticed someone sitting on the bed next to her.
"Athena?" Tai asked.
Athena's head jerked up. She turned to Tai and grabbed her in a hug.
"I'm so sorry, Tai."
Tai patted the girl's back.
"What's wrong, Athena?" Tai asked after the girl pulled back.
"I got your test results back," Athena whispered.
"How bad is it? I'm going to die, aren't I?" Tai became frantic.
Athena shook her head.
"Then what is it?"
"It's a normal symptom. I originally brushed off the possibility, thinking it to be impossible after the beating you had taken and all the blood you had lost."
"Athena?" Tai's voice shook.
"You're pregnant. 14 weeks." Athena muttered.
Tai felt the sentence hit her like a ton of bricks. She felt weaker than before and at a loss of breath.
"I'm so sorry, Tai!" Athena sprinted from the room, no longer able to look at Tai.
Athena tumbled down the stairs and into the hallway to her bedroom. Before she could open the door, she rammed into Kai.
"What's the rush?" Kai asked, holding the girl by her arms.
Athena shook her head. Kai raised an eye brow.
"What's going-?" His sentence stopped as he noticed blue hair running past the hall.
"Tai!" Kai shouted.
He attempted to chase her, but stopped short. He turned to Athena who shrunk under his glare.
Tai sat next to the river. Her chest was tight and her breaths came in pants.
'I'm pregnant?'
Athena's words still rung in her ears, making her feel faint. Tears brimmed in her eyes, but refused to fall. A lump caught in her throat, threatening to choke her.
"No!" She shouted.
Her voice bounced off the rapids and echoed against the rocks. Her vision blurred from the lack of oxygen as she tried to breathe.
"It can't be true."
Silence took hold of her as she slowly moved her hand to her stomach. After all this time, she hadn't even thought of her periods. And when in the hospital, they had given her a pill. Could they have been too late?
'It could be any of theirs. Bryan's? Spencer's?'
Her hand shook as it found her lower stomach.
'Tala's…"
The salty tears began to over flow, the dam broken.
"Not like this!" She growled.
She grabbed the nearest rock to her and chucked it into the river. The splash hit her like icy needles.
'What if it's one of them who…'
Her eyes widened and she screamed.
"I won't carry such an abomination!"
Tai stood up, determined with anger. She yanked her blade from her pocket and clicked Salemite into place. Her finger rested on the rip cord.
"But if it is Bryan's, Spencer's, or Tala's… Then I would be murdering…"
The tears blinded her.
"Why?" She yelled. "Why does it have to be me?"
Tai collapsed. She fell to the misshaped bank and sobbed.
"Miss Tai," Salemite's voice echoed over her.
Tai caught her breath long enough to stare at the blade.
"This baby is a gift. Even if it had been conceived in hate, you have the power to bring wonderful life into this world. Do you really want to take away that opportunity from a child?" Salemite reasoned.
"I couldn't live my life if I had to stare into the face of any of the men who raped me."
Tai could feel bile rise in her throat making her vomit. Her short energy supply began to fade. She forced herself to sit, ignoring the dizziness that currently surrounded her head.
"Salemite?" She asked, wiping her mouth.
"Yes, Miss Tai?" The beast replied.
"How can I tell them?"
He was quiet, unsure how to answer.
"I-I can't make any decisions about this baby unless they know."
Silence filled the air. The streams of tears on Tai's face began to dry as she started to calm down. The tightness in her chest remained, but the lump had disappeared. Her heart thudded at her rib cage as she ran scenarios of her they would react through her mind.
"What about Athena?"
"Salemite?"
Tai began to sway.
"Tell them where I am." She said before darkness took her over once again.
The room was quite. Athena sat in front of the four boys, each staring at her. She took a deep breath as she gathered the right words to say. After Tai had run from the house, Kai demanded that Athena explain. She gathered all the boys and said she tell them all at once.
"Come on, Athena. We don't have all day!" Kai growled, impatiently tapping his fingers with his arms crossed.
Athena sighed. "You guys aren't going to like this, but here it goes."
She held her breath before releasing it quickly, "Tai's pregnant."
"What?!" Bryan shouted.
He stood up clenching his entire body in anger.
Kai's jaw dropped. "There's no way…"
"You lie!" Spencer argued.
Tala's eyes widened as his breath locked up within him.
"I'm sorry to say, but the blood doesn't lie," Athena managed to choke out.
"After all that she has been through… she's pregnant too?" Bryan growled.
"I don't believe you!" Spencer yelled, charging Athena.
Kai quickly went to intercept, grabbing his arm.
"She's just the messenger. Don't hurt her," Kai commanded.
"Tai could be pregnant with any of our children!" Spencer yanked his arm away.
"Or one of theirs..." Bryan jumped in.
They all became quite. The realization hitting them hard like a semi truck had run them over.
"I'll kill every single one of those bastards!" Spencer fumed.
Athena went to stand, but a flash of light emitted from her pocket. She blinked, pausing for a moment before grabbing the object in her pocket.
"Amythrius?" Athena curiously stared at her blade.
The blade became wrapped in a white envelope of light. The teenagers in the room immediately halted their fury long enough to notice a forming beast before them.
"Amythrius?" Kai questioned.
The beast bowed.
"There is no time for questions. Tai has fainted in the forest!" She said.
Tala was the first to move.
"Where?"
Kai stepped forward anxiously.
Amythrius began to glow and an image formed in their minds. Kai was already running g for the door, knowing exactly where to go. The others were behind him, but they weren't what he was concerned about at the moment.
As he run, a memory came to him.
"Tai, stop!" Kai screamed.
Tai was standing on a railing above a fast flowing river. Tears streaked her bruised cheek.
"No! I can't take this anymore! I'm not strong enough! I can't take the beatings, Kai!"
"Tai, please!"
He never thought he'd have to beg, yet there he was, nearly on his knees, begging for his sister's life.
"I know it's hard, Tai. But killing yourself won't be any better!" Kai tried to reason.
Tai's head jerked to look him in the eyes.
"And waiting around to die is any better?" Tai argued.
Kai took an uneasy step forward.
"Things will get better, Tai! I will make this promise to you!"
"How can you make a promise like that?" Her voice shook.
"Because I will do everything in my power to make sure it does!"
Tai closed her eyes as more tears began to fall. Kai took this moment to leap forward and pulled her away from the railing. Tai immediately fell into his arms, gripping at his shirt as she sobbed. Kai placed his hand on her head in comfort.
"It'll be okay, Tai."
A patch of blue hair caught his eyes, only making him speed up. He spotted his twin and slid to her side, falling to his knees.
"Tai…"
Kai pulled her into his arms and cradled her. He rested his head against hers.
"I couldn't keep my promise to you," his voice barely a whisper. "I'm sorry."
He heard the other's approach and turned his head to them.
"She's okay," he stated.
Tala, Bryan, and Spencer stared at the twins, still in shock.
"What are we going to do?" Bryan asked everyone.
Tai had long since woken up after the incident near the river. She refused to speak or eat. Athena managed to convince her to take a few prenatals, but afterwards she returned to her silence.
Spencer, Bryan, Kai, and Tala crowded around the dinner table. None spoke, but the same thoughts crossed their minds.
'Whose is it?'
'Are we going to keep it?'
'Will Tai be okay?'
All this and more. Kai sat back and covered his eyes with his forearm.
"I don't even know where to start." He mumbled.
Bryan shook his head. "What are we going to do?"
"Do any of you even know how to change a diaper?" Tala asked behind closed eyes.
"Good question, Tala. Do you?" Bryan snapped at him.
Tala opened his eyes and glared at Bryan.
Silence fell on them again.
"We are doomed," Spencer sighed. "How are we even supposed to help Tai? She won't be pregnant for long if she keeps this up."
"That would be for the better," Kai said.
The other three stared at him in disbelief.
"What the hell are you thinking, Kai?" Bryan shouted.
"Keep it down! We don't need Tai down here because you can't keep your voice down." Kai said in a firm voice.
"Why would you wish that on her?" Spencer said. "I know she went through hell, but that's still a baby. A living human being."
Kai lowered his arm and folded it with the other. "I didn't go the BBA to fix your reports. One of the gang members was there for interrogation."
"They have one in custody?" Bryan stood up.
"Sit down," Kai started. "We can't lay a finger on him."
"Why not?" Bryan barked.
"He has information about Boris."
The other three stared at the blue haired teen.
"How would that low life gang member have information about Boris?!" Bryan demanded.
Kai took a long breath.
"Boris hired them to find Tai. They were to bring her back to Russia. Once they had her, Boris offered to pay them more to rape her. We just happened to come in as puppets for their own profit."
Spencer shook his head in disapproval. Tala's lips pressed together firmly. Bryan slumped into his chair.
"Why would Boris want that?" Bryan asked.
Kai shook his head. "I don't know. They pulled me from the room before he told me."
Silence.
Tala sat forward. "This still doesn't change the fact that she is pregnant."
"She shouldn't have it." Kai stated.
"You're pathetic, Kai. This isn't just our decision. Tai does have a say in this," Tala frowned.
"If she's not eating that seems like a clear decision, if you ask me," Kai growled.
The tension began to rise as the exchanged glares. Bryan watched the silent feud before standing up again.
"That baby could be any one of ours. There's no way of knowing who's it is until it is born. And I will not let what could possibly be my child die because I couldn't make up my mind." Bryan blurted out.
He turned on heel and left the room.
"Does he really think he can motivate her that easily?" Spencer mumbled.
Kai hmphed before standing up. He reached for the coffee pot and began to brew a new pot.
"No, but…" Tala started.
Spencer turned to Tala.
"Maybe we don't have to."
"And what do you suggest, oh great team leader?" Kai remarked
Bryan took a deep breath before knocking on Tai's door. His grip tightened on the bottled water in his hands and the crackers rustled as he waited. After several moments, he reached for the handle.
"Tai? You in there?" He asked carefully.
The door creaked open and a pale hand wrapped around the frame. Bryan pulled back as light crept onto Tai's face. He forced a smile and held up the crackers.
"I brought something to help."
Tai's face disappeared and the door opened up more. Cautiously, he pushed the door open. He watched her move to her bed and lay down. He swallowed his stomach and stepped towards her, sitting behind her on the bed.
"How are you feeling?" He managed to ask.
She said nothing.
"Are you hungry? Athena said crackers would help the throwing up." He lifted the sleeve of crackers.
Still nothing.
Bryan sighed and shook his head.
"We're worried about you, Tai. You haven't been out of your room in days. This isn't healthy. You know that."
"I've been sleeping." She said softly.
Bryan perked up.
"Well then, you should be all rested up. You should come down stairs and..."
"I don't want to," she interrupted.
Bryan frowned. "Well at least eat a few crackers and drink some water. You'll shrivel up if you don't."
Bryan went to leave in defeat, but before he did, Tai grabbed his arm.
"Don't leave," she said.
Bryan let a small smile sit on his lips before he sat back down.
"I still don't feel like eating." She admitted.
"Athena said that eating small things like crackers or bread will help with that," Bryan informed.
"And my fever hasn't changed."
Bryan placed his hand on her forehead. She pushed into his hand, enjoying the cold.
"Do you want me to get you another cold rag?"
"I'd like that very much," she said.
Bryan stood again and held the bottle to her. "I'll only get you a rag if you promise to eat."
She turned her head away. "Then never mind."
Bryan rolled his eyes. "You are as stubborn as your brother."
Tai rolled away from him and curled up with one of her pillows. He shook his head.
"I'll be back up in a bit. Try to eat."
Bryan left the room and Tai sat up, staring at the door he had shut behind him. She continued to stare before her eyes rested on the crackers.
How many of you were expecting that? Truthfully? How many? Now what are they going to do? Will they ever catch up to Boris and his gang? What about Voltaire? And what are they going to do now that there is a baby on the way?
Tell me what you think please! It'll motivate me to tell you the answers to all these questions!
