Adam lay on his back, stroking the cat that sat on his chest. It was the black one, Shade.

The sun shone down on the ship, it was late afternoon so it was plenty warm too. Adam could've easily fallen asleep and all the crew was getting slow around him.

Not that he minded, and it didn't seem Gabriel did either.

The familiar sound of a certain pair of boots on the floor boards made him look up.

Michael stood off to the side, Adam slowly smiled at him, only for Michael to look away.

Adam huffed and turned back to the cat, fine then. Michael had been like that this whole week, and Adam was beginning to get fed up.

Balthazar limped out after Michael, dipping his head once to him, before turning to Adam, "well look at the prince lounging about."

"I hope you trip and suck his dick," Gabriel commented, from above them near the helm.

"I don't!"

Balthazar and Gabriel laughed at the horror in Adam's voice, "sorry kid, just messing with you." Balthazar nudged him with his bad leg.

Adam shrugged, "go ahead, everyone else does."

Balthazar chuckled, "I see why you like this one Michael, he's got spirit."

Adam thought he might be blushing slightly, while Michael shifted his weight. There was something awkward about the conversation though.

"Balthazar… I'm sorry about Raphael."

Balthazar turned to look at him, "what?"

Michael raised his head, "if I hadn't let Raphael and Lucifer… go unchecked you wouldn't be injured."

Balthazar shrugged, "so you don't blame me?"

Adam was confused, and apparently, so was Michael, "blame you for what?"

Balthazar stared at him, "umm… you do know I killed Raphael right?"

Michael stared at him, Adam kept his eyes on his face, because Dean had said he'd done it, what did this mean, Michael had a horrified look on his face.

He turned around a sprinted below deck, Adam swallowed.

"I'm going to take that as a no?" Balthazar turned to Adam, "what did he think…"

"He thought Dean killed Raphael." He'd put Shade on the ground and scrambled to his feet, ready to go after Michael.

Balthazar sighed and grabbed his arm, "hold on. I'm glad you're ready to go tearing after my cousin but let me tell you a few things first."

Adam walked past the room that had become his to the room next to it, where Michael stayed. He knocked on the door, so that it swung open.

Michael was sitting on the bed, with his back to Adam, he turned around, not crying but obviously distressed.

Adam stayed in the doorway, "Michael… about what Balthazar said…"

Michael raised his head, "I'll be alright Adam. It's not… it doesn't concern you."

"Yeah it does because it's bothering you. Stop pushing me away Michael."

Michael's brown eyes widened and Adam lowered his voice, he hadn't meant to almost shout the last sentence, "you were there for me when Sam and Dean were dead, just… let me return the favor damn it, if you don't want us to be friends or whatever the hell our relationship is because…" he trailed off, and crossed over to sit next to Michael.

"For the past week you've been acting like we hardly know each other, and you told me if I wanted more from this relationship I knew where you were, and yeah, I do, running away from me," he paused to take a breath, "and I get it, and I'm trying to give you space to grieve, because when I heard Sam and Dean were gone I wouldn't have wanted to start a relationship, but we're… we were friends Michael so don't just walk away from me. I can wait, but please, stop walking away."

Michael sighed and leaned against the wall, "it's not just Lucifer and Raphael. I ran away from home eleven years ago, I had plenty of time to accept not seeing my family again and that several of them could be dead or that I could die. I am in the navy you know," Adam reached over to rest his hand on Michael's wrist.

"But the other part is I'm your bodyguard right now."

Adam offered a flirty smile, "you can guard my body any time."

Michael stared at him for three seconds before he burst out laughing.

Adam joined in, he lowered his head, shoulders shaking, and his cheeks hurt from his grin, but he was simply grateful to have made Michael laugh.

"Thank you, I needed that."

Adam smiled back at him, "any time." The mood fell slowly, and Adam felt it in the long silence, the weight in his chest, and the pain in Michael's eyes.

Michael kicked his boots off, "I'm going to lay down for a while."

"Oh," Adam moved to get up, but Michael held onto his wrist, a light grip, "you can stay."

Michael moved so that he was on his back with his head on his pillow, Adam had to twist around to look him in the eyes.

Michael gestured to the area beside him, Adam narrowed his eyes slightly, before he kicked off his boots as well. He lay down on his side, one arm resting on Michael's chest.

"Do you… do you want to talk about it?"

Michael shook his head and pulled Adam closer, "I just… I need to think. But you being here helps."

Adam rested his chin on the back of his hand, "I'm glad."

Michael ran a hand through Adam's hair, he imagined it now had Michael's slightly disheveled look.

Adam let Michael's hand roam from his hair to his face, to his shoulders and chest, it was almost relaxing.

"I just… why did Dean lie?"

Adam glanced over, "while I was talking to Balthazar he came over. He said that if Balthazar hadn't killed Raphael he would've. Which is Dean speak for he thought your family was already messed up and Balthazar gave him a weird look, and Dean looked guilty about something, so I think Dean blames himself for something."

"Probably Balthazar's limp," Michael murmured, two fingers rubbing circles on the side of Adam's neck.

"You're petting me."

"You'd be a cute cat."

Adam huffed, "should I purr for you?"

Michael raised one eyebrow, Adam smirked, "don't worry, I'll save the scratching for later."

"Oh, you're a bad cat are you?"

Adam rubbed his check against Michael's chest, "purr."

Michael laughed, softly.

"I could groom you."

"Please don't," Michael was smiling again.

Adam settled again, and began to match his breathing to Michael's.

"Why did you get drunk that one night?"

"Because Winchester men turn to alcohol. It is the true way to suppress your feelings."

Michael grinned at that and Adam grinned back.

Sorry, Michael needed to angst and I swear I will try to get something decent out and actually finish this thing. Keyword is try.
