Chapter 20

He smiled. "Perfect. Are you two ready to begin?"

He sat down at the table, motioning Sophia to do the same. While she was walking, she only looked at the floor. It wasn't until she sat down that she finally looked up at the people who had made her feel welcome once upon a time. She tried to convey every emotion she was feeling with her eyes, but mostly remorse. Esme pointedly ignored her, squeezing Carlisle's hand for him to do the same. He understood and did as she asked, but couldn't help but notice Sophia's dejected, defeated look as she hung her head.

Instead of focusing on that, Carlisle focused on Xavier's words, asking, "Ready for what?"

Xavier grinned cruelly, steepling his hands. "Why, the game of course."

Carlisle exchanged a glance with Esme. "What game...?"

Xavier rolled his eyes. "Right. Basically, you have to bet on an extremely important item for you children."

Esme smiled. "Well... that shouldn't be too difficult. We have plenty of important items to us."

Xavier smiled as well, with an evil glint to his eyes. "We'll see."

Taylor POV

"So Violet... does anyone else have a certain... power that we don't know about?" I asked, playing with Nessie's hair.

She looked like she was about to crash at any moment. When I told her about calling Jake, she almost freaked out. It took Jasper to calm her down, and even then, she wasn't very calm. She's exhausted from worrying too much. We both are. Both Seth and him had to be extremely freaked. I hoped they didn't do any stupid.

Violet rolled her eyes. "You're so smart. But... yes. There are. Me, for instance. I don't just read dreams. I manipulate them. For instance, all those dreams you had of us, Taylor, my doing. And Alice, we're also the reason you couldn't see any of us coming."

Alice gasped. "But... I don't dream!"

She pursed her lips. "No, you don't, but you have thoughts. Harry messed with your mind. You had the visions, but you couldn't see them. They should come rushing at you once Harry takes you out from his control."

Edward glared. "You aren't mates."

My eyes shot to him. "What the crap?"

"They're twins, like Alec and Jane. Which is why they never seemed too..."

"Matey?" I suggested. "Makes sense. But that still doesn't explain why you were so interested in my Jacob."

Violet made a noise of disgust. "As if! That was my darling brother's work."

"He just made me think you were into Jake. But... why? I mean, it's not like it made any sort of sense. That was stupid."

Violet smirked. "But it made you mad. So mad, in fact, that you didn't even notice us plotting against you."

I growled then, startling Nessie. "Sorry, Ness." I turned back to Violet. "You fucking... urgh! I can't believe I fell for that!"

She laughed. "Yes, well, I guess you're not always right, now are you?"

"Shut up, Violet," Chantal scoffed. "Quit acting like you're so mighty. If it hadn't been for Alex, none of your stupid plan would have come true."

All eyes snapped to her. "What do you mean?" I asked.

"Alex was supposed to gain your trust, try to break the ties between you, Jacob, and your family. Of course, that didn't work, but it did make you kind of mad at your family."

I glared at Violet. "You were trying to make me feel like I was all alone and could trust no one but Alex. Too bad it didn't work, huh?"

Nessie sat up. "I don't think you understand just powerful we all are together. You can't do anything to break our ties to each other. We're family, first and foremost. Always."

Harry spoke up. "We still have you all here, with your hands tied behind your backs, figuratively speaking. There's nothing you can do. You're hopeless."

Emmett guffawed. "We could get out at any time we wanted to. We're just humoring you."

Jasper laughed too. "Luis' power can't be that bad. Besides, I doubt he could get more than one of us down at once."

"Would you like to try?" Violet asked.

Jasper stood up. "Fine."

"Jasper..." Alice said warningly. "I don't think this a good idea."

"Listen to Alice, Jazz. It's not fun. I've seen the effect it has. Please," Luis begged him.

Jasper growled. "First, you don't have a right to say her name. And darling, I'll be fine."

Violet smiled evilly. "Fine then. Good luck." Then she glared at Luis. "If you don't send him down, say goodbye to you precious mate. Understood?"

Luis growled, but looked defeated. "I'm sorry, Jasper."

It all happened really fast.

Jasper just grabbed the bars and was suddenly on the floor. The way he was vibrating and convulsing made him look as if he was having a seizure.

"Stop!" I screamed along with Alice.

"Luis, please!" she begged.

Suddenly, Jasper stopped vibrating, but was still fidgeting.

"He's fine," Luis said as my family surrounded him. "Just still in shock. He'll come out of it."

Alice lifted his head into her lap when he finally opened his eyes. He tried to sit up, but quickly slumped back down.

"That hurt like a motherfucker," Jasper said when he could finally talk.

I gave a watery laugh. That was when I realized there were tears streaming down my face. Nessie's too.

"I've never heard you cuss, Uncle Jazz," she said with an equally watery smile, giving him a hug.

He winced.

"How can it hurt?" Edward asked. "Even Jane's power doesn't hurt once she stops."

"It just... it feels like a newborn vampire hugging me with all their strength."

I glanced at Edward, who smiled at Bella, who looked down. I'm sure they were remembering that first day she woke up as a vampire and hugged him tightly.

"That's normal," Luis said, now standing at the bars. "My power... it's me basically striking you with lightning."

"Which is why it could kill a human," Edward said. "It's a shock to the heart. At vampire strength, which is Luis' power, it could stop the heart. But vampires don't have beating hearts."

"Yeah," he agreed. "It just gives them a jolt. But it's still extremely powerful and makes them a weak for a little bit."

"I guess you won't be trying to escape anymore, will you?" Harry said smugly.

"Luis is the ultimate weapon," Violet smirked. "Xavier's kept him tight under wraps. The Volturi don't even know about him."

Bella looked up. "Because if they did, they might just wipe out your whole family just for him. Interesting. And what if, when you send us over to them, we decide to tell the Volturi of Luis, hm? Aro would be able to see it in our minds. I'm sure he would be a bit... miffed that you kept from him such a talent. Looks like your plan has backfired just a bit. So fuck you."

"Bella, make sure you keep your shield up now at all times," I told her as Jasper sat up.

Violet growled. "Even more reason Bella should be the first to go."

Worth the 2 month wait? I hope you think so. :) Anyway, I realized just how much I missed this story after going back and reading through it. So... here I am, on the weekend, procrastinating on my homework.
