Danny:
Danny picked up another piece of chocolate dipped strawberry off the table and took a whiff of it. It smelled delicious with the tangy scent and the chocolate to compliment it was just enriching in both texture and fragrance. As he brought it to his mouth, a metal hand smacked him across the face and he opened his eyes to the destroyed ceiling. With a groan he sat up and tried to remember what happened.
"You know, a simple 'wake up' would have sufficed." He said, figuring Ty was the one that was waking him.
"Shut up… and get off your ass." Ty demanded, laying down beside him.
Danny got off his back or attempted to but something heavy on his arm was pinning him down. Before he could get up, he looked over and saw that there was a chunk of metal lying on his arm. It was pretty big, and it had him pinned to the concrete floor. He attempted to slide his arm out from under it but there wa no give with to the sheet.
"Shit, look like you're gonna have to move this." Danny said, gesturing to the sheet.
Ty grunted and got up holding his side in pain. He moved over to the metal and grabbed it with one arm, the other still held his left side. His arm tensed and the metal groaned audibly as Ty lifted it up just enough so that Danny could slide his arm out from under it. Yanking his arm out, Ty let it go and a few drops of blood fell off his side.
"Damn, did you get hit?" Danny asked, getting up and rubbing his wrist.
"Kinda, in a way. we landed on some wreckage after point blank firing on that colossus."
"Want some medigel or a bandaid? Wait, did you just say we?"
He walked past Danny and over to Garrus, taking the Turian by the collar. "No, if we calm down then the pain will kick in big time. And are we?"
He walked over near his buddy and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, relax, one problem at a time. If you're injured then you are gonna need something to fix you up. Garrus and Kaidan look alright minus some bumps and bruises." Danny said, going over and taking Kaidan by the shoulders to drag him to the wall by the exit.
Ty managed to get Garrus over to the wall before dropping to his knees and clutching his side. "Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Why are all the heroes in videogames and movies always just walking this off. It hurts so much."
"I don't know, maybe you're just a bitch."
"Hah, please. If we were a bitch then we'd have given up back on Noveria. We need medigel and we don't know which of them has it."
"Just check their omni-tools, it should have some way of activating unity, right? One of them has to have it." He said, getting over to the wall and placed Kaidan next to Garrus.
Ty nodded and scooted over to Garrus and placed his hand on his chest. There was a pause and Danny didn't really know what was going on. Then a blue tear opened up on Garrus's chest and Ty's arm went in up to the elbow. He looked back at Danny then at the tear he had made in Garrus.
The two of them stared at it and Ty just shook his head and got really still before pulling it out. "Alright, he doesn't have it."
"Wait, what the hell was that though? You just like drilled your hand into his chest!"
The injured User looked at his hand and then at Garrus. All he gave was a simple shrug before moving to Kaidan. "If we had to guess, we'd say that it's probably us connecting with it's code."
"That's… wait, code? Like, you're connecting with his file or something?" Danny asked, putting his hand to his chin in thought. "Before when you manipulated that secretary it only took a small bump and she did whatever you wanted. Why did you have to connect to Garrus's file?"
"Maybe, he because he actually has a file to go through. The secretary was just a doorman that has one dialog with Shepard and then just stands there. Garrus and Kaidan have to have code for actual movement, animations for various poses, and an AI to be able to react but there is something else to them too… We think everything might be getting smarter."
"So like, learning or what? Wait…" Danny thought some more and managed to catch the trail that Ty was leading him down. "So, in an AI sense, they are getting more adaptive and their changing both in their actions and personalities. Like since we are an added element, they can't just act the way they normally do thus the need to adjust to us. This means though, we are also going to have a direct effect on them in different situations and based on what they've learned we could possibly change events to come so that we can no longer predict the motion of the story… Oh my god, we can save Mass Effect from the bullshit ending!"
Ty pulled his hand away from Kaidan's chest and looked over at Danny with his head cocked. "Are you high? That'd take too much work and that would take more than just extra processing power… Though, it might be possible. We mean, looking at the rendering and object locations of the world around us. This is more advanced than a stupid 360 or even a monster PC would be capable of rendering and processing."
"So, the AIs would have to be getting extra processing power from somewhere to make all this realistic?"
Ty guestured down to his wound. "Yeah, we mean, this was not possible in the base game let alone a ceiling crumbling like that and a colossus falling down here outside of a prerendered cutscene which there are none. Alright, we have a theory that we can probably look into later. We think, we are not on my xbox at all. Something has us in a shared network of computers all syphoning of one core of each processor to do the calculations for this. The scale though, would need to be world wide and then centralized, possibly a server."
"That… That'd be kinda… Crazy. Like something that would just… who would have the skill to do that."
Ty said something under his breath and put his hand on Kaidan's chest. It went in like before on Garrus, lighting up his omni-tool. There was the familiar sound of medigel being administered. They both took in a sharp inhale of breath and Kaidan looked around worried.
"Wait, what happened? You two don't look…" He looked down and around. "Where is the colossus?"
"Well, it's kinda one hell of a story. Lets begin with you getting your ass knocked out!" Danny said, giving nudge on Kaidan's shoulder as he prepared for a wild story.
Shepard:
John drove the Mako down the skyway dodging the Geth where he could and letting the cannon and turret take care of them where he couldn't. "How are we doing back there?"
"Better than I feared, worse than I hoped!" Liara said, holding onto the side of the Mako for dear life.
Wrex just continued laughing holding onto one of the safety handles and watching Liara. "You're gonna have to get used to this if you want to travel through warzones."
"I'm sorry but I'm an archeologist! The worst I had to worry about was the weather or the wildlife!"
Shepard turned his head back around to watch the road while he drove. He came to a door that opened upon getting near it, granting them entry. There was the sense that there might have been a trap so he took it slow and checked corners as they drove through. Just as he got close to the ramps to the next level a voice came over the radio.
"We've got movement... Some kind of vehicle. Not one of the Geth."
"Sounds like they've spotted us. They must be close." Liara pointed out.
Wrex just sneered at the comment. "Forget them, we need to deal with the Geth."
"Let's get out and see who's here. We may need to help them as well." John said, hitting the breaks and getting out of the mako.
The three of them found another ramp leading down into a larger room bellow. As they got close, John noticed two guards at the entrance and off near the center was a woman and a man talking about something important. Though, he couldn't make out what it was but he figured that this was his chance to help them. They got up to the guards before they were stopped by the man.
"That's close enough, stop right there!"
"Relax Jeong, they are obviously not Geth." The woman said, not frightened of them at all.
"Get back Juliana." The man now dubbed Jeong commanded.
"I'm commander Shepard and-" Shepard's words were cut short as a sniper shot clipped Jeong's head.
He ran into the room and turned around around, quaked by the assault and saw the whole reason he was on this planet. Saren was standing at the entrance, both guards by the door were still at their posts as if nothing happened. A chill shot down his spine as the ease by which Saren walked in and nobody, not even Juliana was panicking about the attack. They were all at a loss like they were never instructed how to react to their lives being about to end.
"Liara! Wrex! Use your biotics, hit him with-" Shepard stopped talking as multiple Geth stormed down the ramp and targeted the two with pinpoint accuracy.
John drew his pistol and tried to shoot Saren but the rogue spectre was suddenly in front of him and pulled the gun away, before turning it on Shepard. The two stood there and he stepped back, more Geth flooded the room and surrounded them. Two destroyers stepped up and forced John to his knees.
There was an awkward silence between them as Saren stood with gun trained. "So, you're the latest incarnation that Ty created?"
"What?" John asked but his question was ignored.
"I have neither the time nor want to explain what's going on to you. However, my patience is thin and I'm planning to cut the fat." He collapsed the pistol and threw it to the side before pulling out an osd stick from his pocket. "There are probably many things you don't understand… John, was it? You have so many names I don't really see the need in keeping track of them but I digress. You more than likely don't understand what I'm going to do because it will seem to hinder me and help you but I am not here to give options."
"If you're here to kill me then get it over with. I don't plan to listen to you gloat." John said, glaring at Saren as a deadman would.
"I'm not here to add another spectre to my body count, yet." His flanges flared. "No, I'm here because what you're about to do is an honest waste of time and I need some information."
"Please, I'll never tell you anything. Do your worst, I've gone through hell before."
"Oh, I don't plan to give you that option." He held his hand out and a metal plate was set in it by one of his many Geth. Saren closed his eyes and a ripple ran through him. His eyes then opened and they flared green.
He stepped up to Shepard after that and looked at him nodding a bit and looking like he was going to say something. John started to tense and figured he'd dodge out of the way as Saren went for the kill shot but his hand moved too fast. Before he could react, Saren's hand grabbed John by the temples and there was a flash. He then let go and John's head pulled forward as his eyes readjusted.
"Alright, I have what I needed. Prepare the ship, we need to be ready for them on Virmire." Saren said, some of his Geth starting to clear out. "Thank you, Shepard. It's good to know that Ty doesn't even have control of his powers. It'll make it easier to crush you all."
He dropped the osd in front of John and walked around him, taking his weapons. "What the hell did you just do?"
"I found a way to borrow some of the… User's power to look in your mind. Shame you can't remember what I do, maybe you could have held a candle to me." He walked out from behind John, now in possession of the weapons and placed on his back.
"What? Borrow his power?" John reached up and grabbed his head as what felt like a brain freeze was setting in.
"He left a prize behind on Noveria. One that I've chosen to exploit and use." He turned back around and signaled another Geth. "Hurry to the colony now Shepard. The locals are already starting to lose their minds. Oh, and don't worry about the exogeni building." There was a loud explosion that shook the room. "I've removed it. Everything you'd find there is on the osd as I said before. I figured I do you a favor since you have done one for me."
As the rest of the Geth started to clear out, they began shooting the rest of the remaining people in the head. Dropping them completely unaware of what was going on. There was a cold sweat forming on John's brow as everything kept growing weirder and he just couldn't comprehend what was happening.
"Why are you doing this!? Why leave me alive!? Why not just end it here!?" He demanded, bringing a twisted smile to Saren's face.
"Because Shepard, this is a game! As it's villain, I'm expected to also be a showman. I must bring this story to a climactic end to satisfy. Even I cannot escape some of the bonds placed upon me." He then turned around to John and his jaw set. "Oh, and one more thing. Tell Ty, I remember everything. I remember Marcus, Darius, Harold and all the others. I don't intend for the story to repeat anymore. It's time he lost."
