"Oh, I thought you were Alex" Kara stuttered taking a step closer to Lena. Her heart skipped a beat to see her girlfriend standing in front of her. She still couldn't get over how absolutely beautiful Lena was, even in a baggy sweater and jeans, with her hair loosely up in bun. But did her heart skip a beat for Mon-El too?
"I gathered as much" Lena said coldly. "What do you need to tell me?"
Kara walked up to Lena and uncrossed her arms, reaching for her hands. "I need to tell you about Mon-El" she said softly, as she ran her thumbs over Lena's palms, not daring to look up at Lena.
Lena pulled her hands away from Kara and reached up to cup her face. She looked gently into Kara's eyes. "Maggie and Eliza filled me in on who he is" she said softly, "and I know you. I know this is something you are going to have to work through. I know you feel guilty and that won't change until you a have a chance to think things through."
"How come you know me so well?" Kara said sadly with her big puppy dog eyes, knowing this wasn't going to be an easy process.
"Because I love you" Lena said, leaning in and kissing Kara gently on the lips. "And because I love you, I'm going to give you a chance to figure all of this out" she said, letting go of Kara's face and turning to walk out the door.
"Don't leave me" Kara said, quickly reaching out to grab Lena's arm.
"Oh, I'm not going anywhere" laughed Lena, "I'm going to fight for you. You are the love of my life. You are my world and if that guy thinks he can swoop in and take you away from me, he has a lot coming" Lena said with a mischievous smile before turning and letting the door slide shut behind her.
Alex and Maggie were standing around the corner when they saw Lena walk determinedly past them.
"Hey, everything okay?" Alex called after Lena.
"Yup" Lena called back at them, not stopping. Alex and Maggie looked at each other before chasing after Lena. They made it just in time to see Lena storm into the conference room. They quickly followed in after her.
"So you are Mon-El not Mike" she said sternly.
"Yes, nice to see you again Lena" Mon-El said standing up from his chair.
"Oh, you can still call me Ms. Luthor" she said with a smile. "I just wanted to give you a heads up that I am madly in love with Kara and no one will ever stop me from loving her. Of course, she might realize she doesn't feel the same way about me, but I'm not letting go of her without her knowing how important she is to me." Lena said firmly, taking a few steps closer to Mon-El. "So if you think you can swoop back down here and sweep her off her feet, you have another thing coming." And with that Lena turned and walked out the door without even given Mon-El a chance to respond.
"Kara is with her?" Mon-El asked, sitting back down in his seat, looking somewhat defeated.
"Yup" Alex smiled broadly before turning and following Lena, knowing full well that Mon-El was shaking in his boots.
"Welcome back" laughed Maggie, following Alex.
It took two days, but Mon-El was eventually given permission to leave the DEO with strict rules in place. He happily obliged to the terms of his dismissal because he had more important things to do than waste his time sitting in the DEO conference room, the most important thing being getting Kara back. Lena, on the other hand, had been giving Kara some space. She knew Kara had a lot rolling around in that mind of hers and if Kara was meant to be with Lena, then that is who Kara would choose in the end. She didn't want to pressure her or make her feel uncomfortable at all. Of course, Lena was dying inside. She kept herself busy by catching up on work she had missed while in Midvale, but inside she was a mess. She loved Kara and the thought of someone taking her away, just made her feel sick.
Once released, Mon-El immediately made his way over to Catco. He nervously approached Kara's office, with a bouquet of flowers in hand.
He gently knocked on the door, his heart thumbing as he awaited Kara to lift up her head from the papers at her desk. She was so beautiful. How he spent this long away from her, he just couldn't explain.
Kara looked up to see Mon-El standing there, looking dapper and carrying a small bouquet of wild flowers. She smiled at him and gestured for him to enter.
"These are for you" he said, handing her the flowers.
"You really shouldn't have" Kara said, "but thank you anyways. They smell lovely." She put the flowers in an empty vase she had on her filing cabinet and motioned for Mon-El to take a seat. "What brings you to Catco? Looking for another internship?" Kara joked, trying to ease the tension in the room.
"Nope, no, not at all. I'm here to see you. I thought you might want to grab some lunch" he smiled at Kara.
"Um…well…" Kara scanned the papers on her desk. "I suppose a quick break wouldn't hurt anyone" she said standing up from her desk.
"Awesome!" Mon-El exclaimed, jumping up from his seat.
"There is this new pizza place that opened up last month. You are going to love it!" laughed Kara, grabbing her purse and walking out of her office and straight into Lena. "Oh, gosh sorry" Kara laughed, hanging onto Lena just a little bit longer than she would for anyone else.
"Heading out?" Lena asked, looking at Kara's purse. "Thought you might want to grab some lunch." Lena smiled at her.
"Oh, we're just going out for lunch. I thought I would show Mon-El that pizza place on 5th." Kara said gesturing to Mon-El standing a few feet behind her. "Want to come with us?"
"Oh, no, no. It's okay. Go and enjoy your lunch. I should probably finish off some paperwork anyways" Lena said, giving a Mon-El a quick wave before turning and heading back towards her office.
"Just give me one second" Kara whispered to Mon-El before running after Lena.
"Hey, Lena, wait!" Kara said catching up to her. "You can come with us, it is really okay."
"No, I'm sure you guys have a lot of catching up to do and I really do have a lot of work to do" Lena smiled.
Kara couldn't help but feel a little hurt. Lena had never really said no to hanging out since they officially began dating, and rarely even before then. "Okay, um…dinner?" Kara asked somewhat hesitantly.
"Of course" Lena smiled, placing a gentle hand on Kara's bicep. She leant in and gave Kara quick kiss on the cheek. "I'll pick you up at 8" she said softly before turning and walking back to her office.
Kara's heart fluttered as she watched Lena walk away. There was just something about that woman. She was on cloud nine as she turned and walked back to Mon-El. "Okay, let's go get some pizza" she said, walking right past Mon-El with a little skip in her step.
Mon-El turned to look in the direction Lena walked and then back towards Kara. He could tell this was going to be a bigger battle than he imagined, but there was no way he was going to lose Kara again.
Meanwhile, in her office, Lena was scouring over papers. It was amazing how much work could pile up with only a few days away.
"Hey, have you seen Kara?" James asked walking into Lena's office.
"Yeah, she's gone out for lunch with Mon-El" Lena informed, not bothering to look up from her work.
"Okay, thanks" James said, turning to leave, but then choosing to come closer to Lena's desk instead. "And you are okay with that?" he asked gingerly.
"Hell no" Lena said with a smile, finally looking up from her work. "To think of Kara hanging around that guy, laughing at his jokes and reminiscing over old times, gets my blood boiling" Lena said in her most professional voice.
"But you still let her go?" James asked, perplexed by the whole situation.
"Of course. I love Kara. I don't own Kara" Lena said with a smile.
"But aren't you worried about… you know… what if… you know" continued James.
"Well, Mr. Olsen, if this is supposed to be your pep talk, it is atrocious. But to answer your question, I am completely terrified. I am always surprised that a sweet woman like Kara would have ever wanted to be with me, a Luthor. But she is. And well, if loving someone else will make her happy, then I won't stop her." Lena said confidently.
"So that's that then. You are just going to let her do her thing?" James asked.
"Of course" Lena smiled, looking back down at her work.
Suddenly there came a knock at the office door. A slightly scared assistant stood there, leaning in slightly. "Excuse me, Ms. Luthor, the donuts have arrived."
"Oh thank you. You can have them put directly into Ms. Danvers' office" Lena said with a nod.
"Just letting her do her thing, eh?" laughed James as he watched boxes of donuts being wheeled over to Kara's office.
"Well, just because she is doing her thing, doesn't mean I have to stop doing my thing" Lena laughed.
Later that night, Lena stood in front of Kara's door. She was suddenly very nervous about knocking. She hadn't seen Kara since she had left for lunch and wasn't sure how it went with Mon-El or how Kara enjoyed her donut surprise.
She was just about to knock, when the door swung open and she was practically knocked over by a departing Mon-El.
"Good evening, Ms. Luthor" Mon-El smiled as he squeezed by Lena and continued walking down the hall.
"Good evening" she replied with a nod, trying her best to hide her surprise that he would be at Kara's apartment in the first place.
