Hello everyone! Here's another chapter I hope you'll enjoy.
Special thanks to brendawilliamsc for getting me off my butt to write this. In response to your review, I am now totally considering giving Dorian a love interest! Hopefully I'll try to bring them in soon.
Emily sat at her desk, waiting for Maldonado to approve her offer. She had just finished questioning their captive bomber, Jung. Emily knew from her previous experience that this was quite a catch. Members of Schlechtes Leben rarely are caught, let alone alive. That cyanide capsule is their only escape.
"So he said what?" John asked, sitting down with their lunch. Chinese food. What else?
"They're planning a kidnapping covered up by a shooting." Emily sighed.
"Kidnapping who?" Dorian asked.
"Turk Bellard, that wealthy weapons developer. He was a co-owner of the building Schlechtes Leben bombed today." Emily answered, opening up a takeout box.
"And when is this kidnapping happening? And where?" John gently took the box out of Emily's hands. He gave her another box. Emily smirked and ate a bite.
"Jung said there was a mini expo at this fancy gala tonight. Bellard is planned to attend." Emily answered John's questions.
"So we just tell Bellard not to go, right?" Dorian added.
Emily shook her head as she ate more noodles. "That reveals our hand. If Schlechtes Leben doesn't know that we know, then we'll be able to ambush the party and save the town."
"Amazing." John ate his lunch.
"But I asked if Maldonado would let us go undercover." Emily smiled subtly.
"Undercover?" John almost spit out his drink.
"What's wrong with going undercover?" Emily put on a fake horrified face.
John rolled his eyes. "Well… there's always a chance someone breaks your cover." He argued.
"That won't happen." Emily set down her empty takeout box. "Besides. Dorian and I are the ones going under cover."
John swallowed his drink. "Oh."
"Clark." Maldonado called Emily from her office. "You're approved. Go to Rudy's to get set up."
Emily nodded and threw out her trash.
"Let's go." She said.
OoOoO
"Hi, Rudy!" Emily pulled Rudy in for a hug. "Did you hear the news?" She smiled.
"Yes! Yes, of course." Rudy smiled back as he moved around his work stations.
John and Dorian walked in, Dorian especially nervous.
"Alright, so what are you gonna be?" John asked, smirking a little. "Waiters? Valets?" He slapped Dorian on the back.
"Ah! Here are you invitations." Rudy handed over a chip the size of a business card, encoded with the necessary information for Emily and Dorian to get in the party. Emily took it, glanced over it, and handed it over to Dorian.
"Looks like we're guests." Dorian smiled at John.
"Great. How nice." John rolled his eyes.
"Okay. I know it's fancy dress." Rudy turned in a circle until he found what he was looking for. He took a garment bag on a hanger and handed it over to Dorian.
Dorian unzipped it a little to reveal a black tuxedo and a white tie.
"Ooh, white tie." Emily marveled. "Fancy."
"Oh, Emily." Rudy handed over a pair of diamond earrings. "Biometrics is one, tracking is the other."
Emily nodded and switched out her earrings. A beep sounded on Rudy's computer.
"And they're working perfectly." He pressed a few buttons, looking intently at the screen.
"Earth to Rudy." Emily called out to him. "What am I wearing?"
"Oh, I have some dresses in the back room that you can pick from." Rudy answered.
"Alright. I'll be right out." Emily gave John her earrings and went to the back room. She picked out a dress and slipped it on. She zipped herself into it and then looked into the small mirror that was on the wall. She pulled her hair back and began to intricately braid it. Then she looked through the drawers of a dresser in the corner until she found makeup. She put on mascara, eyeshadow, blush, the works. She finished off with a swipe of lipstick. She gave herself a nod of approval. She stepped into beige pumps and picked up a purse on her way out.
She stepped out. "Okay. All done."
"Wow." John stared.
"Is this okay?" She asked, looking down.
"Of course." John nodded.
Emily blushed a little.
Her dress brushed the floor. It was a red sequined gown, hugging her in all the right places. It dipped low in the front and stayed high in the back, and had a slit up her leg, past her knee.
"Where's Dorian?" Emily asked.
"Changing in the bathroom." John answered as Emily approached him.
Emily wrapped her arms around him. "I just really want to stop these bastards." She closed her eyes.
John hugged her back. "I know." He kissed her forehead.
Dorian emerged from the bathroom.
"Ah." Emily let go of Dorian. "There's the man of the hour."
Dorian smiled as he tugged down the suit jacket.
Rudy handed two ID cards to Emily. "Your covers, my dear."
"Thank you, good sir." Emily handed Dorian his, and put hers into her purse, along with the invitation.
"Oh and here is you ring." Rudy handed over a gold band with a large diamond on it.
"I might have to keep this." Emily joked as she slipped it on her finger.
"Now I just have to say a few things." Rudy held up his hands. "We can only communicate with Dorian. Giving Emily a comm is too risky in closed quarters. No weapons either. They scan for metal, but Emily, I think you'll be fine with your prostheses." Rudy paused. "John, you're going to lead a full backup tactical team." Rudy finished. "Any questions?"
They all shook their heads.
"Thank you, Rudy." Emily smiled and waved goodbye.
"Good luck!" Rudy worriedly looked on.
