Chapter 21
Raphael was thrilled in a strange and foreboding way. Everything was beginning to pull together and the things that were needed for his plan had begun to fall into place and that meant that he could start. The push that he needed had finally arrived and he could start preparing for War. He was going to help his brothers and sisters no matter what it took; he couldn't let them continue to suffer even if they didn't know they were themselves.
OoO
"What can we do about it?" Castiel asked looking to Balthazar in confusion. He now knew that what Balthazar had brought up had been true. Everywhere he went he found himself remembering things that he'd never considered before; these things meant that something was being kept from them and he had to get to the bottom of it.
"I don't know but we have to do something right?" Balthazar muttered sitting down by the tree at which he had begun to remember things at. He remembered meeting Castiel there and seeing him there, so broken after the sandy-haired archangel had left. No one could remember him, only that he had deserted them but they were so wrong.
Castiel knew everything now and he told Balthazar all about what had happened with Gabriel because he knew him better than anyone else and with every word Balthazar could see how it was upsetting Castiel to think that he had forgotten him.
"I agree. Michael can't get away with this. Everything he has done is wrong and he has hurt so many people that don't even remember it," Castiel said the passion rising from within him. He knew that his loyalty would be questioned by anyone he tried to tell but the truth was that Castiel was loyal to his family, so loyal that he would fight against one all powerful member of his 'family' to ensure the safety of the rest. He was going to fight for them no matter what they said because they meant everything to him.
"We can't tell anyone else though," Balthazar said, uprooted worry and fear staining his words, "They wouldn't understand; we have to do this ourselves."
"We have to tell someone. Michael has too many followers for us to even make a dent in the ranks alone. We are a part of them," Castiel pushed looking at Balthazar. He admired his friend's determination and courage but sometimes he was a little reckless. That may be why they made a good team. He was reckless and Castiel was controlled; they played off each other's strengths to make themselves stronger.
"We are the best part, Cassie, and you know it. We know all of our garrison's formations and we are the centre of them all. Without them they are left exposed," Balthazar said gripping his shoulders. Castiel wasn't always confident and Balthazar knew that and had made it his personal mission to build him up so he realised that he could do whatever he wanted.
"Yes, but we can't face the rest of heaven. I'm sorry Balthazar but it isn't possible," Castiel said removing his hands from his shoulders and thinking of what they could possibly do when a voice that hadn't been heard for centuries interrupted them.
"Castiel is right, you can't face them alone," Raphael muttered as he leant on the other side of the tree with a serious face on them, "Neither can you tell the others. Quite a predicament we find ourselves in."
The two young men span to look at their older brother who leant casually on the tree. He looked older than he was with tired, worried eyes and a stance that at first seemed casual but with further inspection looked tired. They didn't know what to do as they looked at the second oldest sibling.
"Don't worry; I'm on your side with this. Brother got out of hand as soon as father left and while he didn't mean for it to everything when to his head and he made reckless decisions. Everyone suffered because of them," Raphael explained pushing off the tree with his shoulder and walking towards the two with his arms folded across his chest.
"I don't understand. How did we not know anything that has happened? How could we forget Gabriel; Lucifer being banished; everything? What happened to us?" Castiel asked moving his gaze from his Balthazar to his brother. He had to have answers because all the questions whirring in his head were eating his mind alive and he didn't have space to think rationally.
One single word, a name, was used to answer all the questions and that name meant nothing to any angel but a select few that Raphael unfortunately found himself a part of.
She was research scientist some may say who experimented to be able to manipulate any angels mind in a few simple steps. She was present the first time that the angels were brainwashed. She observed and used all the young angels as test subjects. Raphael had managed to detach himself from it all so much that neither she nor Michael felt it necessary to perform anything on him but that meant that he was constantly haunted by the screams of his family as Michael beat things from their memory.
She was a monster and as such was kept away from the majority of heaven and her existence was a secret kept by only the highest angels.
"Naomi," Raphael said with years of hate and distaste laced in his voice and every letter of the most hated name, "She took Michael's orders and did so much more. Everything has been changed within all angels except Michael, herself and I. All her horrific deeds were covered up and she got away with every single one of them until now."
Balthazar looked at Castiel's terrified face. He was remembering things that were designed to have been thrown to the very back of his mind; away from all the battle plans. However, the wall was slowly crumbling and things that he never wanted to relieve were seeping through to the forefront of his mind and it was overwhelming.
He couldn't believe that Michael could have done any of that to them. It was horrific and had damaged each and every one of them; changing their personalities; their thoughts and feelings. It was atrocious and Castiel couldn't believe that a brother he had once so admired had done any of it.
"We can't let her have the pleasure of seeing us brainwashed into what she believed," Castiel said through gritted teeth, "We have to tell everyone what happened and set everyone free."
Balthazar looked to his brother. He'd never seen him this passionate about anything and it made him smile. Castiel was a good soldier and he had always been one to follow orders diligently and accurately to the word but seeing his eyes light with such fire made Balthazar smile. Castiel had always been focused but this look in his eyes was different. He could see that Castiel knew for once something he was about to do was going to make a big difference; it was going to help someone.
Balthazar smiled and looked from Castiel to Raphael, "How do we do this then?"
