Stiles' dad only took ten minutes before returning to the cruiser, Lydia and Jackson had been collected by their parents and the Sheriff decided to fill in the paper work at the station in the morning rather than go in that night. Sitting in the back with Stiles, Addie barely managed to keep her eye open for the ten minutes it took to reach the Stilinski home.
Addie had been in their house only a few times. Once for Stiles' seventh birthday party, and more recently she'd studied in the living room with Stiles once their friendship had began to develop. She liked their home, it was everything a family home should be in Addie's mind. It looked lived in, it had character. Like the spindle on the banister which had been taped together due to twelve year old Scott and Stiles going down the stairs on their sleighs, or the just visible marking in the frame of the kitchen door, visible proof of how tall Stiles had grown. It was a cozy, family home. A far cry from the house Addie slept in at night, the only lived-in room in her house was her bedroom.
They were kind enough to let her have free reign of their shared bathroom, Addie was in dire need of washing away not only the sweat from her run, but also the dirt and dried in blood that was caked on her legs and in her hair. She didn't take her time, after stripping off her dirtied clothes Addie eased herself into the steaming shower and spent just enough time to wash herself with their musky smelling shower gel. She gently washed out the three scratch marks that traveled across her side, they didn't look too bad which gave Addie hope that they'd heal soon enough. Luckily the EMT had given her an extra bandage.
Stepping out of the shower, smelling distinctly like Stiles, Addie used her forearm to wipe the condensation from the mirror. Her blonde hair was only damp as she tried to keep it from the shower's spray, her eyes were tired as they took in the rest of her body. Yellowing bruises patterned across her ribcage, a few little cuts as well where the gravel had scraped against her bare legs. Nothing was particularly painful, she hadn't needed any pain killers, other than the small lump that had formed where she'd hit her head and the purple bruises that formed around the claw marks. Even those, however, only hurt when she touched them, she'd gotten off incredibly lucky. Especially when she thought to the poor store clerk who hadn't been lucky at all.
Addie's eyes went to the small pile of clothing she'd been handed by Stiles before she'd entered the bathroom. Unfolding them she realized that the clothes, particularly the t-shirt, were so incredibly Stiles. Biting her lip to stop herself from laughing out loud, she let out a small chuckle before toweling herself off and pulling them on. A baggy pair of gray sweat pants, that kept falling down her hips until she pulled the drawstrings as tight as they could go and rolled the waistband down a few turns, and a black, too large t-shirt that pictured a woman on a stripping pole and claimed 'I Support Single Mom's'
Laughing as she left the bathroom, Addie entered Stiles' typically messy room, finding him plucking a pillow from the bed. When he turned back to the door he jumped a foot into the air when he spotted Addie and she chuckled as he placed a hand over his heart. "I can't sleep without my pillow." He explained, holding up the blue pillow in his hand, before taking a better look at Addie, more specifically the t-shirt she wore. His cheeks grew bright red and he groaned in embarrassment, "I just grabbed the shirt, I thought it was plain black."
"Hey, I love it. I would also like to support the single mom's of Beacon Hills." Addie joked, causing him to lighten up. Tucking her legs underneath herself, Addie took a seat on Stiles' bed. There was something about seeing a girl, not just any girl, Addie Weaving, the girl, wearing his clothes and sitting on his bed that caused his heart to falter. So sexy it hurt. He was never going to be able to wear those sweatpants or that embarrassing shirt the same way again.
"How can you look ten times better in my clothes than I do?" He joked, causing Addie to roll her eyes. He hadn't actually meant for her to hear it, but he'd made her laugh so it didn't really matter. Taking a seat at her side Stiles studied her face, "How are you holding up?"
"I guess I'll be fine," Addie spoke quietly her steady gaze on the sheets as she fingered the material.
"Ads." Stiles pressed.
"I will be, I know I will, but... It's just scary y'know," Addie looked up to meet Stiles'. "Someone died. Died, and I was just ten feet away. It could easily of been me. Or what if I'd been there just five minutes earlier, or I didn't talk to Lydia for as long, it could have been me or I maybe I could of even helped him." Addie sniffed, and her Stiles watched as her gray eyes shone with unshed tears.
"You can't think like that Ads, nothing you could of done would have changed anything. That mountain lion was crazed, it was going to go through anything that was in it's way. I'm glad you weren't there any earlier." Stiles told her looking directly into her eyes so that she knew he meant every word. It hurt him to know that Addie was beating herself up like this.
"That's the thing Stiles, it didn't look like a mountain lion." Addie spoke quietly shaking her head, she didn't see as Stiles' jaw tensed and his eyes widened. "It ran right past me, I got a closer look at it and it just didn't look like a mountain lion."
"Wha- What did it look like?" Stiles asked apprehensively.
"It was big, huge, and it's fur was so dark, blacker than anything I've ever seen before." Addie whispered, eyes wide with fear. Addie looked off into the distance, not seeing. Her eyes flutter closed and all she saw was darkness, until a flash of blood red flashed across the back of her eyelids causing her to snap them open. "Red. I saw red."
"Um, Ads." Stiles began, but stopped when he realized he didn't know what to say. He knew he'd have to text Scott and tell him everything, but that could wait until tomorrow, right now he had a distraught, pretty girl sitting on his bed seeking comfort. "You were scared, it was coming straight at you. You're mind probably made it look bigger and scarier than it was."
Addie nodded, it was reasonable that she'd panicked and thought she'd seen something she hadn't. What had she thought it was? Initially she'd thought it was a wolf, but then she remembered last year when she sat with Lydia as she done a biology project. Beacon Hills didn't have the Eco-system for wolves. "Yeah you're right, I was probably just tired." Addie agreed, stifling a yawn.
"Yeah you should probably get some sleep." Stiles nodded as he stood up, his pillow in hand. It was only then Addie noticed that he was already dressed in his pajamas, loose sweats that matched the ones she wore, and a plain blue t-shirt. "My dad's gone to bed, but he'll file the incident report tomorrow morning when he goes to work."
"I really like you're dad. He's always been really good to me, after my mom and then tonight. You're lucky to have such a great dad." Addie mused as she tucked herself under Stiles' blue plaid comforter.
"Yeah I know, he's the best." Stiles nodded as he reached the door. "Do you want me to turn out the light?" Addie nodded. "Goodnight Ads."
Stiles flicked the switch and Addie watched as the door opened and light from the hall trailed in. Biting her bottom lip, Addie couldn't stop herself from whisper-shouting after him, "Stiles?" He turned his head from where he stood in the open doorway, the light from the hall casting a glow around his outline. "Could you, um, stay with me? Until I fall asleep," she asked, grateful that in the dark he couldn't see the blush that crept up her neck and painted across the cheeks. She, however, could see the his eyes blink a few times his throat bod as he swallowed.
"Yeah, sure." his voice was rough when he answered after a long silence. He closed the door behind him and with his long legs it only took him three strides to reach the side of the bed. He looked down at Addie and then the space next to her, contemplating as to whether he should join her underneath the covers or if he should simply lay on top. The choice was made for him however, when Addie pulled back the material and gestured for him to get in. His breath hitched as he slipped in beside the blonde girl, not a single part of their bodies touched, but the tension Stiles felt was electric. The feeling was ten times worse than the night they'd sat in darkness watching that movie with their friends. Never had he ever been so hyper aware of someone's body in his life. For once in his life, he remained completely still. The hyper active boy who was never not moving or twitching, was rendered completely still.
They both lay on their backs facing the ceiling, Stiles shifted his head just ever so slightly to see the girl at his side. Her chest was rising and falling in time with her breathing, perhaps a little too fast to be considered normal. Her hair was sprawled out on his pillow and he knew that when he went to bed tomorrow, all he'd be smelling is apricots. Addie shifted slightly so that her eyes went straight to his, normally he would have been embarrassed at being caught looking at her, but he wasn't. "I see it when I close my eyes," she whispered.
"It's okay Ads, I'm here," he soothed her, and she gave him a genuine smile, before looking back up to the ceiling.
"I like it when you call me Ads." Addie said softly, as she reached her hand over until she found Stiles', gently interlocking her fingers with his. Stiles' heart almost beat out of his chest as she made contact. His breath sounded a little raspy as he internally vowed to himself to call her Ads more often.
Everything after that was silence, they must of both fallen asleep, because the next thing Stiles knew the body that was pressed against his side was writhing and screaming bloody murder.
