Dear Fanfiction: I'm Moving
(Yes I know this post is against 's rules but shhh!)
Can I first say thank-you to everyone who has followed and enjoyed my stories thus far? Your support has made me into the writer I am today. I would've given up ages ago if it weren't for your continued support.
I know I've been inactive for a while, but I've been working on several original projects these past few years, and while my initial goal was to get them to a publishable standard, I miss the sense of community that comes with posting my stories for free online. Your follows, reviews, PMs and more have made this website feel so homely. I want to experience that again, but unfortunately I cannot do so here. That is why I'm moving to Wattpad.
Many of you would've heard of Wattpad already. It's another website where you can post fanfiction chapter-by-chapter, but it's also a huge hub for serialised original stories. Wattpad is very much like YouTube for writers, since some authors can achieve celebrity status, gain sponsorships, and earn ad revenue. ( Not that I expect any of that to happen to me) It's also a more mobile-based website, so it can often feel like you're reading an ebook from the Kindle app on your phone. The culture over there is also very different in many ways. Writers post shorter chapters at a more frequent pace, and there are far less restrictions on what you can and can't post compared to . If I were to make a post like the one you're reading now, it would be perfectly fine on Wattpad.
Does that mean I think Wattpad is better than ? No. If you want to read fanfiction about fictional works (as opposed to celebrities and YouTubers), I'd recommend this website since it makes finding stories suited to specific criteria much easier. On Wattpad, all fanfiction gets dumped into the same genre and you have to use complicated search terms and hashtags to find what you're looking for. I'll still be using this website for my fanfiction fix, but it no longer suits my needs as a writer.
I wanted to make this post for anyone who is interested in reading my writing again. Today I posted a prologue to my romance novel 'Forever Watch'. It's a story that is very personal to my heart, taking place in my home city and following Ella Belson, a kawaii lifestyler like myself. Her way of life is something that has rarely been represented in literature, despite the powerful themes about life, identity, growing up, and society it can convey. I'll post a synopsis for you now:
When Ella Belson started high school, she was given a watch counting down to the meeting of her soulmate. Five years later, when she has grown into her sweet pastels and frills, she meets Hale, who crashes into her life like, well, hail!
But as soon as their watches beep, they know the other isn't all they hoped for. Hale is traditional, realistic, and prefers to blend into crowds. Ella is rebellious, ambitious, and sticks out like a sugary rainbow (quite literally). Surely the watches are wrong?
Or perhaps they delivered exactly what the other needed...
The concept isn't new, originating from Tumblr and the movie 'TiMER' (which I have not watched) but from what I've seen so far, it hasn't been treated with the realism it deserves. I believe finding your soulmate won't always result in instant chemistry, but if a couple is willing to get to know each other anyway, it can lead to a wonderful relationship.
After I wrap up 'Forever Watch', I'll probably write a lot of fantasy and maybe some sci-fi. I might even write more fanfiction in future, since I have several ideas that I've had for a while. But I'm not making any promises!
If you want to continue following me on my writing journey, you can find me TheCoraMaria ( It's a more professional-sounding pen name which is why I changed it) on Wattpad. You can also find the relevant links on my profile. I would really love to hear from you all again!
From Scarlet Curls.
P.S. This post will be deleted in a week since it only has temporary value. Links and details will remain on my profile indefinitely.
