Anything Could Happen| 3.3 – You're not the Person with the Hat made out of Straw?

Lola's POV

The island in the distance was much bigger than the one she was currently standing on. It was clearly visible from her spot on the beach, maybe one or two miles away. And if Lola squinted her eyes just enough, she could barely make out the blurry outline of ships.

That island must be where all the people are at…which makes this one…? She turned around to face the forest behind her. I might be the only person here… Turning back towards the ocean, she contemplated the thought of swimming there. A mile or two of swimming? But it could be longer than that…and even if I wanted too, I doubt I'd make it. Lola clenched her fists and pouted. Maybe I can just wait here for a while? Somebody is bound to come over here…right?

Her arms crossed over her chest and she shifted her weight onto her right leg. How long should I wait, though? A day…two…three? And what about food? You're going to have to forage for them, and find water. She glanced down at the small waves rolling into the shoreline. Too bad seawater is undrinkable, there's so much of it around.

"Hey."

Maybe there's a lake or rive somewhere in that forest? There has to be for all those plants to be alive…unless if they rely on rainfall…

"Hey."

And what am I going to do about food? If I'm lucky, I'll find some fruit trees or bushes with berries…but some berries aren't edible, but I don't know which ones are and which ones aren't, so maybe I should just ignore berries all together?

A pressure was placed on Lola's shoulders and she was pushed forward onto the ground. What…?

"Damn! Are you deaf or something?" somebody snapped from behind her. "I've been trying to get your attention for like a minute now!"

Lola pushed herself up and looked back, eyes going wide as she took in the clearly pissed off woman before her. What…the…hell? This woman, if she even could be called that, had a bluish skin hue, something Lola never saw before.

"Who…who…who are you?" Lola muttered out, taking a step off to the side since she couldn't back away without stumbling into the ocean. Her outfit…and hair…and facial expression…IS SHE EVEN HUMAN?

"Stop backing away!" the woman growled, moving towards her. "It's time we do this."

"D-d-d-d-d-d-d-do what…?" She gasped out and broke out into a sweat. "Holy shit…you're the person I saw up in the storm…ARE YOU AN ALIEN?" She has to be…that's the only reasonable explanation to this. She was up in the skies…like an alien! And her skin color is all blue and her outfit looks like it belongs in a history book. She has to be an alien…but…why is she talking to me? Does…does she want to PROBE me? Lola gazed at the other woman in pure horror. "P-p-p-please, I know what you want from me…but let me tell you, you will not enjoy probing me. I'm n-n-no good. How about you go to another island and find another, y-y-yeah?"

The woman placed a hand on her hip and frowned. "I'm not an alien…well, not quite. And I'm not here to probe you, so stop freaking out. I'm here to get even for what you did to my honey-bunny."

"Oh…" Lola took a deep breath and tried to relax. "Wait…your honey-bunny?"

"Yeah! You're totally going to pay for that. I tried to kill you off in that storm, but you had to go and cling onto the wreckage. It'll just be easier if I do it by hand now." The woman took another step towards Lola.

Lola took a step back, and another one when the woman proceeded to walk towards her. "Wait, wait, wait! I don't even know what you're talking about." She gasped out and brought her hands in front of her to block an incoming blow. "WAIT!" she cried out as she tripped and fell down on her back.

The blue woman got on top of Lola and pulled out a knife. "Why should I wait? You did an awful thing to the man I love!"

"No…no, I didn't," Lola tried to plea, body shivering from utter fear. "I seriously have no idea what you're talking about."

The attacker rolled her eyes. "Stop acting dumb. You're a pirate…my boyfriend was attack by a pirate. He told me himself before passing out. Said, 'Hat…straw…pirate…girl…rubber…' and then like totally passed out. So being a good potential girlfriend, I decided to go out and murder those nasty little pirates." A blush broke out across her face. "Then Enel will finally realize how much I love him and totally make me his one and only lover~"

"That's…sad and all, what happened to your lover there, but I had nothing to do with that," Lola countered as she wiggled herself out from under the woman. "I mean, I literally just became a pirate this week and my crew hasn't gotten very far."

"What?" The bluish woman's face grew dull, eyes slightly wide and mouth ajar. "What do you mean?"

Cocking a brow, Lola began to brush the sand off her lap. "What I mean is that I, nor the crew I am part of, could possibly be those you speak of. We've only just started, and I—being the only girl on this crew—don't recall beating up an alien, or whatever you guys are."

"How can I believe you?" The woman's voice was soft, almost as if she was sad. "I was sure you guys were the culprits…but…but you're not the pirate with the hat made out of straw?"

"Look at me," Lola ordered as she pointed a finger at herself. "You act like your, uh, boyfriend is strong…do I look like somebody who could possibly beat him up?"

The alien-not-alien woman took a deep breath as she examined Lola, eyes looking her up and down and arms crossed. "You look like a wimp, to be honest," she had finally determined. "And well, when I first spotted that redheaded guy back a few days ago, I didn't notice you, and Enel said there was a girl pirate…" The women's cheeks grew red. "OH NO!"

Lola watched in confusion as the other backed away in panic.

"I can't believe I messed up this bad!" she cried out, voice pitchy and weak. "I totally tried to, like, kill you guys when you did nothing wrong!" Covering her face, the older women began to cry.

"Um…" Lola got up and awkwardly placed her hand softly on the weeping alien-not-alien's shoulder. "It's, uh, okay…really…stop crying." Gosh, I wonder if I look this bad when I cry. And for a moment, she could understand why Kid didn't like crybabies. It gets awkward… "Look, what you did was pretty crappy, but I'm still alive and I'm positive you won't try to kill me anymore, so I guess I can forgive you? Does that make you feel better?"

Peering through her fingers, the woman sniffed and nodded. "A little bit," she mumbled, whipping her hand under her nose. "I just want to get those pirates back for what they did to my honey-bunny…I'm…I'm sorry for mistaking you for them."

Lola tried her best to force a smile, which only came out weak. "Again, it's alright. I'm sure if I was as…determined as you seem to be, I would create some mega storm to destroy those who hurt my loved ones." While she knew it was a lie, she did want to make this creature-woman-not-alien-whatever-she-was feel at least a little better. Plus, I don't have it in me to do such a thing…

Sniffing once more, the woman blinked away her tears. "Alright," she stated, her voice more confident than before. "First things first: I'm sure you're pretty confused about who I am and why I came from the sky."

Lola nodded in agreement. Of course she was confused! Who wouldn't be?

Glancing up at the sky, a smile formed on the woman's lips. "I'm not an alien, but more so a Goddess in training."

"Goddess…?"

The woman blushed. "Well, sorta. Some of the creatures who dwell on this planet call us as such…Enel is a God, that much is certain. But I suppose I wouldn't exactly be considered one from where I come from…You're kind might call me one though, and that I don't mind."

"Then what are you if not a Goddess?" Lola asked, blinking. It hardly made any sense to her, let alone the idea of there being actual living and breathing Gods out there somewhere.

Clicking her tongue, the goddess-not-goddess placed a hand on her hip and said, "I'm kinda like a scribe, in a sense. Like, one day I can possibly become as powerful as Enel, but that's like, really unlikely to happen. So, I just do whatever the big shots want of me and learn as much as I kind, knowing that I will probably never become as strong as them."

Never become as strong as them? She created a storm from hell, yet that isn't considered as strong? How strong are these Gods?! Licking her dry lips, Lola said, "You're strong for our—human—standards. But I'm glad that you're not going after me anymore, um…what is your name?"

Cocking her head slightly, the woman grinned. "I have yet to be named by you humans, and my immortal name would be too hard for your kind to pronounce. Enel was given such a name long ago by your kind, even though it is not his birth name. Why don't you give me one and maybe one day you'll go down in history as naming Enel's girlfriend?"

"Name you…?" Lola found it a strange request. And it's just weird…she's not some pet, but she's looking at me like she's waiting for some answer! "Are you sure you would be comfortable with that?"

The other nodded, happily.

Rubbing her chin, Lola shrugged. "I guess I can do that, but you better tell me if you like it or not. I don't want to give you something dumb." After a moment, she clapped her hands together. "How about Nila, huh? That's cute and short like Enel, and since you say he's your boyfriend, I think it works?"

"Nila?"

"Yeah!" Lola gave a reassuring nod, happy with her idea. "And plus it's unique, so you won't have to really worry about others jacking your style."

The scribe blinked and for a moment, stood silent, obviously thinking it over. "Hmm, I suppose, and I don't dread it." Her face broke out in a red shade quickly. "And maybe even Enel will like it?" Cupping her cheeks, Nila swayed from side to side. "And who gives me such a name?"

"Lola."

Nila narrowed her eyes slightly. "It rhymes with my name…is that why you chose it? Is Lola the pirate a bit egotistical when it comes to her name?" Nila smirked.

"Oh, I didn't even realize." Maybe it's true. Maybe I like my name that much, haha? Frowning, she hoped Nila wouldn't think too much on it. She didn't want to come across as a proud person. "Anyway," she said, trying to change the subject, "now that we've exchanged names, how about you help me out a bit, hmm?" Twirling around, she pointed straight for the bigger island across the bit of ocean. "See that island over there?"

"Yes."

"Can you fly us over there, since you got some major cool powers like that?" When Lola turned back around to face Nila, she noticed that she had a strange look to her expression, almost as if she was nervous.

"Uh," Nila began, weakly at that, "about that: I don't exactly have that much power left. Actually, I personally never had some to begin with. I just, uh, borrowed some in order to track the pirates down, and I fear I only have enough left to get me back home. If I waste it now, I don't know how I'll get back…"

Lola frowned. "Oh." This isn't good at all. Now not only am I trapped on this island, but so is she…if she decides to stay. "Then are you going to leave?"

"No, I can't! I haven't found those responsible for Enel's suffering!"

So she's willing to stay trapped on this island for her lover's sake? That's…stupid, but at the same time…At the same time, Lola couldn't help but feel admiration towards Nila. Enel must really mean a lot to her if she's willing to go to all these grave lengths. For a second, Lola wondered if she would ever find somebody to fight for as Nila did for Enel. "Then how do you plan on getting off here? It seems like we're the only two around."

It was Nila's turn to frown. "I was hoping you had an idea."

Great.

To be continued…

A/n: So yeah, I updated this. It's been a while, and I want to apologize for being gone for so long. A lot has been going on in my life and I just couldn't focus on writing…but now things have gotten easier, and if anybody is still interested in this, I will probably continue it. I will be honest: I was getting bored with this idea, but recently, I just wanted to start it up again, as if I got re-inspired… Anyway, I'm so sorry for being gone!

And sorry to come back with just a pure OC chapter. I know it's more fun with Kid and the others, haha. : ) Next chapter will be a Heat POV chapter and hopefully I'll start getting on the roll with this story again.

Nila isn't Enel's girlfriend, just really obsessed with him. She thinks she is, but isn't. And I'm not sure how long she'll tag along with Lola and the crew…maybe until they meet up with the Strawhats…Anywho. That's Nila, the creature behind the storm that's been chasing them for a long time.

Thank you to everybody who reviewed, followed, faved, and read this story! It really means a lot!

Responses:

Toraffles: Thanks so much again for pointing out my mistakes with the North/West/East/South Blues.

Sarcasm speaks: Haha, well it might not be a lot of caring, but it's some. I think, canon-wise, he would care for his crew, even if it be a little bit.

iiILurvePancakesii: Um, I'm not sure if she'll get a DF or not. I might come across that possibility later on in the story, if I decide to continue it, but as of now: I'm not sure.

Abderian Halcyon: Thank you so much for your kind words! And yes, I agree with you so much with there being some spelling errors. I just scanned the last few chapters to get a feel for where I left off and I noticed so many mistakes! Ugh. Sorry about that. I'm hoping I'll become a better writer by doing these FFs, so hopefully there won't be that many more mistakes. Again, thank you so much for the review!
