Chapter 21:

Muffin for your Thoughts?

He was just sitting there, looking out over all the other Vocaloids and scowling, as usual. Like a hungry mountain lion stalking it's prey, waiting for the right moment to strike.

She didn't have to look up to know she was the person he was scowling at the most, with that usual steady two-toned gaze of false hatred. It made her feel a bit uncomfortable, but she was used to it enough by now that it was fairly easily ignored. As usual, as she ate one of the many muffins leftover from her lunch (persimmon pumpkin spice, naturally, as her new Korean Gal Pal had seen them cooling on the windowsill in the morning and decided it would be a good idea to stuff them all in her lunch box before Sweet Ann deemed it too unhealthy to consume so many instead), her thoughts were on him as well.

What was he thinking about? Why was he staring at her? Why was he always so angry? These questions buzzed through her mind as he chewed thoughtfully on the muffin, sitting on the picnic tables not too far away from him.

Soon enough, she sighed and decided she'd had enough and stood up with her lunch box and walked over to where he was sitting on the bleachers. She climbed up and sat next to him, ignoring the surprised look on his face as she offered him a fresh muffin from her lunch box. "Muffin for your thoughts?"

He just stared at the muffin suspiciously, as if wondering if she'd poisoned it or something. She sighed and just forced the muffin into his hand and took another bite of her own, swinging her legs a bit with her lunch box in her lap.

He eyed her a moment before finally seeming to give in and taking a bite of the muffin. He talked with his mouth full, which she didn't mind for whatever reason, "Just thinking about how much I hate you. . ." She looked over at him to see that he was just eyeing his muffin with an almost grateful and affectionate look, and then shot a glance back over at her as he finished with, "And how sometimes I can't quite figure out why."
