I had to have someone come and look after Maura, for fear that when she woke she would freak out.
So after calling Constance, I met Frankie a few blocks away and we headed up to the prison. I needed to talk to Paddy and to Ian. For me the ride was incredibly tense and I needed something to distract me."Tommy and Lydia have been an official couple for six months now." Frankie said and I smiled.
"Thank you for the distraction Frankie." I said and he nodded.
"So how is Maura?" he asked and I frowned.
"She knows, so naturally she's terrified." I told him and he sighed.
"Frost and I watched the footage and trust me it's not pretty. It's mainly of you and Maura but there are bits of Ma, Tommy, TJ, Lydia and you and me Jane. What if Ian's plan is to hurt everyone you are close to?" he asked and I thought about it.
He knew that my biggest weakness was my family, even if they irritated me at times he was right, I would do anything to protect them.
"Well then we better find everyone from the O'Leary clan and go after them." I said and he nodded.
Arriving at the prison, Frankie and I were sent through the metal detectors and then taken to the interview room where Paddy was waiting for us.
"Jane, what can I do for you?" he asked as I entered with Frankie.
I didn't pull any punches. "Maura and I are still being threatened by the O'Leary clan, my father arrived this morning with a video that threatened everyone I love." I told him and I saw his jaw clench.
"How is Maura?" he asked and I saw Frankie shot me a questioning look.
"Annoyed, upset. Doesn't have any idea how to take this new information." I said and Paddy started clenching his fist.
"I heard through the grape vine that since Ian was locked up his second in command was calling the shots and was sent to go after the person who put him in prison." Paddy said and I nodded.
"Do you think Rory knows more?" I asked and Paddy nodded.
"I'll go talk to him later, but do you know anything more?" I asked as he cracked a smile.
"I know a lot of things Jane. Things that Ian and the O'Leary clan wish I didn't." he said and Frankie asked
"Are you going to tell us what these things are?" Paddy smiled, looking from Frankie to me and back again.
"I see your brother has the same ferocity as you do, Jane. You must be proud." he said and I gave a slight nod, to which he responded,
"Every clan has a weakness. The O'Leary clan has a couple. Ian found Maura and knocked her up because he needed a new heir. He has no family left, apart from the little girl my daughter is going to give birth to. He recruited the rest of his family by offering power and riches. If you take that away from them, they will cave and turn against him." Paddy said and I thought that through. The rest of the O'Leary clan needed an heir to stay where it was in the Irish Mob wars, but since they had all been recruited and none of them actually had any stake in the wars apart from the promise of riches and power they would be easier to take out. Since Maura had been rescued, they hadn't tried smuggling women and children into the country.
Maura and the baby were the key to this family continuing. Ian needs Maura and that baby. A girl was not the most desirable heir for the family, but if he had Maura, he would be able to have more children, more than likely producing a male heir.
Jane shook her head. This seemed so farfetched, but according to the video, the threat was very real.
Paddy cleared his throat, breaking Jane's thought.
"I will get to the bottom of this Jane. Ian or that family can in no way be allowed anywhere near Maura. They are beyond cruel. You already saw what he attempted to do to my daughter. Just think of what will happen if his number two gets his hands on her. That family is in danger of fracturing. If he had Maura, Ian has nothing. He would kill the baby and make sure Maura has his child instead. They have no feelings for anyone else but themselves. Be grateful that they are out of the human trafficking business."
Jane shook her head. "They are out of it for now because they are distracted with Maura and my family. Would they really be crazy enough to come after us? I have the entire police force to back me up."
Paddy smirked. "Jane. You just don't get it. They don't care. They will wall through all the cops to get to her. You can't let her out of your sight. I will take care of Ian. You will have to take care of his number two. If we cut off both heads of the snake, the rest will fall."
Paddy motioned to the guard and stood.
"Maura is the most important part of your life Jane. Not your job, not your family, just Maura and that baby. Don't take anything for granted. They are always watching, and when the opportunity presents itself, they will strike and you will not recover."
Jane and Frankie exchanged looks as the guard led Paddy back to his cell.
