In the morning, I took the day off. I went directly to see Wolf Man and I wasn't leaving until he'll talk to me. I've arrived in the warehouse and heard him talk to his betas. There were only two of them. I went in to see She-Wolf and Zacky Wolf. They all turned to me and I waved at them, smiling sheepishly. Zacky and She-Wolf nodded at me and walked past me to go to school. Wolf Man just turned his back to me and continued to do whatever he was doing. I followed him and sat on the ground near him while he was taking chains and shackles out of a bag.

"Need any help?" I asked after a heavy silent that I couldn't bear anymore. I know I should probably go for it and just apologise already. But that kind of stuff has never been easy for me. I've never apologised to someone, not even to my father. Needless to say that he didn't answer. I blew a raspberry and pouted for another few minutes. My legs were sleeping. I stood up to wake them. I started to walk around the warehouse. I went into the rusting train car. I sat in one of the torn up seats. Wolf Man came into the train car and sat down across me.

"Why are you here?" Wolf Man asked.

"Oh, now you're talking to me." I replied and he got up to leave. I jumped out of my seat to grab his arm to stop him. He stared at my hand as if to say "take it off or I'll tear it apart." I didn't take it off; it will have to bear this moment with me.

"Wait!...Uh, well, I came to apologise and I realised it wasn't that easy." I sighed. He hummed. "Aren't you going to help me do that?"

"No." He replied.

"You're taking a lot of pleasure in doing that, aren't you?" I questioned narrowing my eyes at him.

"Yes." He smirked. I rolled my eyes.

"Look, what I did was uncalled for. I did warn you though and I didn't actually use wolfsbane, doesn't that count for something?" He gave me a deadpanned look. "What I'm trying to say is that I can't do this alone. I can't be the Protector and have you be mad at me. I just can't." I finished.

"Why me?" Derek asked.

"You're my friend, that's why." I replied. "I know I wasn't one to you lately but you have been one to me and I don't want to lose that." I looked up at him and saw that his aura was showing some light yellow. I hid a smile. I took my hand off his arm and he left the train car. I was confused for a little moment. I mean that's all the answer I have for apologising. Well, technically I didn't apologise but yeah, I did. I mean it counts right?

"Nell, you're coming?" He called. Nell? Who he's calling Nell? Me? "Nell!" Yes! He's calling me. I left the train car and ran after him. He was already wearing his jacket and was walking outside.

"Hey, do you realise that it's the first time ever you're actually calling me with a name? Well, the first time you are actually calling me." I beamed walking next to him. "And why Nell? Why not Em?"

"Why Wolf Man?" He returned the question. We got into his car.

"It fits, that's why!" I replied immediately. "Gotcha! Where are we going?"

"Lunch." He revved the car and drove into town.

We stopped at a little dinner called Joe's. I saw there the sign of destiny. Anyway we ordered our food. And Wolf Man asked me about the Kanima. I shouldn't probably have but I told him that I think it was Jackson. He thought the same but he needed someone to confirm it. That's when Zacky and She-Wolf make their entrance. Our orders arrived and we started to dig in. And Wolf Man wanted to know more about the aura thing as he called it.

"Well, I don't really know. I mean I do see them in permanence, everyday." I started to explain. "I mean it's like you with the smell, I guess. You can smell everyone, everyday. And if this person is being anxious for example, their smell change and their heart rate quicken, well it's the same with auras." I finished. "I meant to ask but how do I smell like?"

"Vanilla, coffee and pineapple." He replied.

"Can you do shorter answers than that? And isn't that a weird smell?" He rolled his eyes. "Anyway, what do we do about the Kanima?"

"We?" He questioned.

"Yes, we. You and me, buddy, we're in this together." I smiled. "So?"

"We kill it." I choked on my drink.

"Not that I want you to be mad at me again but can't we find another solution?" I asked.

"I'm listening." He answered. I didn't think that far, I mean I wanted to save Jackson. But I didn't think that Derek will actually listen to my suggestion. So I stared blankly at him trying to form comprehensible words with my mouth.

"Well, we, uh, we can….uh…" He raised an eyebrow and smirked at my stammering. "Shut up!"

We went back to eating and after that to the warehouse. I helped Wolf Man made the installation for the full moon. I also offered him my help and he didn't refuse and he didn't accept either but hey, he's not much of a talker. So I was helping him during the full moon. While doing all this, we talked. Well, I did the most part of it and he just asked question here and there when he picked its interest. I told him about Ella's diary and how she couldn't kill Daniel. I also told him about what the Kanima's venom that can weaken me. And most important, I came clean about my origins. You know the "me coming from another Realm" thing. Of course, I told him that it all came with the Protector's condition. Well, will it surprise you if I say that's where he asked me most of the question? I can tell you that it did surprise me that he didn't growl at me for keeping this a secret. I expected an angrier reaction. I must say that I was a little bit disappointing, I was psychologically prepared and bracing myself for a confrontation. But it never came. I was expecting for his aura to turn redder but no, nothing. I was brought out of my reverie when I saw three other people coming in the warehouse. One of them was dying. She-Wolf was dying. Stiles and Scotty Wolf were the one who brought here.

"What happened?" I asked them while Scotty Wolf handed Erica to Wolf Man.

"The Kanima happened." Stiles answered.

"Damn it!" I cursed. I really need to find a solution to know when he's going to attack. We followed Derek into the train car. He laid Erica on the floor and asked Stiles to hold her.

"Is she dying?" Stiles asked.

"She might." Derek answered.

"She is." I confirmed.

"Which is why this is gonna hurt." Derek warned pushing up the sleeve of Erica's jacket. He took her arm and broke it.

"You broke her arm." Stiles yelled.

"It'll trigger the healing process." He replied. "I still gonna get the venom out. This is where it's really gonna hurt." Wolf Man put more pressure on her arm and it bleeds a bit more. She screamed with pain.

"Stiles you make a good Batman." Erica said to Stiles before fainting. Once the venom was out ad I confirmed it that Erica will be okay, we went out of the train car and Stiles stayed with Erica. Scotty Wolf followed us.

"You know who it is?" Scotty Wolf asked. Well, it sounded more like a confirmation than a question. Wolf Man turned around to face Scotty Wolf and sat down.

"Jackson." Derek answered.

"You just wanted to confirm it, didn't you?" Scott replied.

"And I did confirm it." I chimed in.

"I'm gonna help you stop it." Scott said to Derek after glancing at me. "As part of your pack." Wolf Man and I looked at him surprised by this announcement. "If you want me in, fine. But we'll do it on one condition. We're gonna catch him, not kill him."

"Fine by me." I agreed.

"And?" Derek trailed off.

"And we do it my way."

The kids left as soon as Erica was feeling a bit better and I stayed with Derek for a while. He was thinking, I mean really thinking. It was funny to watch, he was deeply lost in his thought and nothing could have pulled him out of it. Eventually, I left to his thought promising him that I would help him with his betas. I told him thank you for the day we spent together. If only I could do that everyday (sighing), but I have to go back to work, damn it! Why do I have to work?

I'm glad that Derek forgave me; I'm glad that we worked it out. Now, I know that I can count on him and he can count on me. I felt better knowing that everything was alright between Wolf Man and me. Plus Wolf Man has a nickname for me; Nell; I like it. It does fit.

Dear Joe,

Today was a good day. Wolf Man and I became friend again and I feel I can do it now. Now, all I have to do is to take care of that new relationship. He didn't seem to care that I came from another realm. It was almost as if he already knew it. But that's not possible, right? I mean who would have told him? Peter, maybe, before dying, who knows? Anyway, Joe, I'm not alone anymore. And I hope it stays that way.

I closed my diary and grabbed Ella's and restarted my reading where I stopped before flipping through it.

The 30th January 1635

My name is Ella, Ella Salvatore, and I'm the Protector. The hunter Gael Argent came one day at my village to tell me of my destiny. He taught me how to fight. Thanks to him, I've learned a lot about the supernatural world. I always thought that werewolves were just legend but now, I know that it's all real and it scares me. I have to leave my village and my mother to live with the hunters. The Protectors and Hunters always work together. And this is the way it's always been and always be.

Gael came because I became of age. I have just turned the age of 24. I am old enough to be married but Gael came before my mother could even think of marrying me to one of the men of our village.

I am happy Gael came, though. This way I don't have to get married. My mother is deeply disappointed by that but she had no choice but accepted it. Gael is training me to fight and to survive under any condition. He gave me this leather bound book in order for me to put my thoughts and experience for the future generation. He also gave me this bestiary. I have to keep them in safety and I will. These are not the only books Gael gave me. He also handed me all the other Protector's diaries. They are really helping me at understanding my fate better.

Gael seemed to be a really kind man and he is charming but I don't know there is something wrong. Sometimes he speaks with so much hatred about the werewolves that his charming face turns ugly. He scared me more than the werewolves will ever do. He also taught me the code that hunters and Protector goes by: Nous chassons ceux qui nous chassent; we hunt those who hunt us.

I'm wondering, though. Do I have a code? Do I need to make one? Yes, I think it's important that I go by a code too, but a different one.
