Chapter 21

Sango gently ran her fingers through Kagome hair. The girl had finally stopped crying and was now simply laying with her head on Sango's lap, enjoying the small comfort.

"I know you love him, Kagome. But there is nothing to be done now. He didn't plan for this to happen. I don't think, even in his wildest dreams, he could have seen this happening. I know that I, for one, would never have hazard to guess that Sesshomaru is an uke."

"I know all that. But I can't just flip a switch and stop loving him. And hearing that sound," she shuttered and tightened her arms around herself. "I can't help thinking that it should be me that he pulls that sound out of."

"It will be alright. Inuyasha seems really happy, Kagome. That is what matters here. You know as well as I do how much he has wanted a closer relationship with his brother. No, none of us expected this to be how they come together, but what's done it done. You are so young compared to him. You need to remember that he may look young but he's over 200 years old. You are still a child to him, no matter how much you two may care for each other. And you are a beautiful girl, you will find real, true love with someone that loves you as much as you love him. You shouldn't settle for someone who doesn't love you, even if you have feelings for him. You deserve more than that, and Inuyasha knows it."

"I know. But it's still hard. I thought he loved me. He's been so nice lately. But it turns out he was only being nice because he didn't want me to sit him."

"I've been wondering for a while now why you didn't release him from that curse. He's proven his loyalty to all of us multiple times."

"I didn't want to lose him. I thought if I took it off, he would leave us."

"He wouldn't have. Even now he isn't leaving us. Until the baby is born, he can't leave Sesshomaru and they can't travel. But we can visit. We can be true friends to him and help him become a great Lord of the Western Lands. He will need our help, our advice, on what he can do to improve the lives of the people under his protection. With our help, he could become as great, maybe even greater, than his father was."

"People talk about his father like he was a god. He made the people feel safe and happy. Inuyasha is brash and loud and goes into things sword first. How is he supposed to make people feel safe?"

"The people of Kaede's village feel safe because they know that they are under Inuyasha's protection. The village and grown and prospered with his help. They haven't been attacked by yokai in quite a while now. And that is all because of Inuyasha. He may not know it, but he has done a lot of good in the time he has traveled with us. Word has spread about him and the help he gives to people. When he takes up residence in the castle, and word gets out that he is the new Lord, people from all over his lands are going to be asking for his aide in one thing or another. And it will be because he had already built up a good reputation as a powerful and generous yokai."

"What about the jewel? How do we finish collecting the pieces without him?"

"We could as Koga for his help. Or we can wait until the child is born and Inuyasha can hopefully come with us."

"Inuyasha isn't going to leave Sesshomaru and his baby alone. He would never do that." Kagome sighed and sat up. "Do you think Koga will want to help us?"

Sango smiled at the other girl. "I think Koga will do anything you ask him to do."

Kagome blushed. "You really think so? He does flirt with me a lot. But I always thought that he did that to annoy Inuyasha."

"Partly. He does like to get a rise out of our white haired friend. But he mostly did it because that crazy wolf is in love with you."

"Is he really? I don't think so. He never flirts with me unless Inuyasha is around. When he isn't we just talk like normal friends."

"Trust me. I've seen the way he looks at you. It's the same way I see Miroku looking at me when he thinks I'm not looking. Koga only does the crazy flirting to annoy Inuyasha. The conversations with you are the real Koga."

"Maybe. I don't know. I've always been so focused on how to make Inuyasha want me that I never paid attention to Koga."

"Do you want to pay attention to Koga? That's the important question. Don't just move on to Koga because Inuyasha is out of the picture. Want Koga because you want Koga. He is a really nice guy, even if he is a yokai."

"I do like Koga. He's attentive and he's always nice to me." Kagome blushed again and pulled her knees up against her chest. "Plus, he's really cute."

"So we will ask Koga to come with us for a while to search for fragments of the jewel. Sounds like a plan. Maybe Sesshomaru will have someone at the castle that can get word to him that you want to see him."

"Maybe. I'll ask when we get there. We need to sit down with Inuyasha and talk about some things when he isn't so worried about Sesshomaru."

Sango stood and brushed the grass and leaves off her kimono. She held a hand out to help the other girl up. "That might have to wait until the next time we see him. He needs to focus on seeing his mate safe for a while. Try not to push him right now, okay? He going to be a little overwhelmed with the sudden changes in his life for a while."

"Yeh. I should probably go home for a while." She suddenly smiled. "Maybe I should bring back some books on baby names and pregnancy and parenting for Inuyasha to read."

Sango laughed. "I can see it now. Inuyasha reading a book about pregnancy and freaking out when Sesshomaru experiences things differently because he's a yokai." She shook her head. "Baby names, maybe. But anything about pregnancy or parenting would only make him paranoid and more worried than he needs to be. I'm sure Sesshomaru will find a wonderful midwife and the two of them will figure out the parenting thing the same way everyone else does, by doing it."

"I guess. Maybe I'll get them some baby things from the future. Maybe some clothes. I can just picture Inuyasha holding a little baby wearing a pink dress and a bow in her hair."

"We won't know if it's a girl or a boy until it's born."

"I know. But don't you think a girl would be great? She would be so spoiled."

"Maybe we should hope for a boy then. If Inuyasha had a daughter he would be so protective of her that he would never leave the castle for fear she would fall and skin her knee while he was gone."

The girls shared a laughed and talked more about a son versus a daughter for Inuyasha on their way back to join the others.
