Hiei is out at night in the Makai when he comes upon a small human child. For reasons unknown to everyone else, he takes the little girl under his wing and raises her. This is the story of a cold-hearted fire demon and of the little girl that melted the ice surrounding his heart.

The yōkai village was crowded and the marketplace more so. As he walked further from the vendors, the crowd began to thin and suddenly it was just him wandering around an obscure part of the town. He stopped at an inconspicuous little shop located in the shade of a much larger building. The exterior was a mixture of murky green and brown, with the paint peeling in random spots. He entered in spite of its rundown appearance.

While it seemed relatively small on the outside, the inside was surprisingly large. Objects of questionable nature lined numerous shelves on the ocher colored walls but Hiei wasn't interested in those trinkets, he went straight to the back of the shop where a smiling tanuki awaited.

"Welcome Hiei-dono. Have you come for a sword?" He asked, already reaching beneath the counter only to stop when his customer shook his head.

"Clothes," He replied then added, "and a dagger." The tanuki straightened, mumbled something under his breath and gestured for Hiei to follow him. He lead the fire apparition through the curtain behind him and gestured to the racks lined up before them. Hiei almost frowned, he would have to be just a bit more specific.
