~*~Chapter Twenty-One~*~
"No, Todd, I already told you... I am not taking the chemo anymore," Marty stated.
"Alright then. I am going," he said with a heavy sigh. He stood up and started packing his things. In a few minutes, he had a small bag packed and he was headed toward the door.
"So, you're just gonna leave then?" Marty asked. "Just like that?"
"Yeah, I am not going to sit here and watch you kill yourself," Todd said angrily. And with those words, he walked out the door. He closed it behind him, leaving Marty to remain there in the silence.
She wasn't sure how long she sat on the bed, just crying. It seemed like she sat there for hours, not moving. It took her nearly twenty minutes to realize she had a visitor. Blair had let herself in, just like she had did so many other times.
When she glanced up, her neighbor was standing in front of her, giving her a sympathetic look. "Marty, are you okay?" Blair asked.
"No," Marty said dully.
Blair sat next to Marty on the bed, slipping an arm around Marty's frail back to give her a hug. "Did something happen between you and Todd?" Blair questioned.
"We had a fight... and he left me."
"Its okay; I'll find him and I'll bring him home."
Marty's eyes landed on Blair. "I know about the two of you," she stated. "I know you slept with Todd... and I can't forgive you or him, not right now, anyway."
"Marty, I..."
"Thank you," Marty said sincerely.
"For what?" Blair asked in confusion. "What in the world are you thanking me for?"
"For caring for Michelle, for always being here for my little girl. That's the one right thing that you've always done."
"Marty, I'm..." Blair's words trailed away. Marty didn't need apologies. Not now. She only needed Todd.
"I think I know where to find him," Blair said. "I'll go to Todd and I'll bring him home."
Marty watched as Blair stood up and headed out the door. Would Blair really find Todd and convince him to come home? Marty wasn't sure, because after all, even if he did come home, she would still refuse to take the medicine. She had absolutely had enough of that "life-saving" poison. It was her life and her decision.
