GCPOV

He was asleep when he heard Mia scream and then she said baby. He didn't want to be the one to tell her she lost the baby. But here she was asking for her baby. He raised her bed up so she was eye level with him.

"Tell…me."

"Mia we don't have to do this now."

"Ple…ase."

"When the taxi hit you, you were thrown in the air and then hit the ground. The impact was too traumatic and you lost the baby. I'm sorry sweetheart."

She blinked at him as if she was trying to understand what he just said. Then she broke down in sobs. He leaned forward a little and pulled her into his arms. She clung to his shirt and he just let her cry. Her sobs turned to hiccups.

"I rem…ember. Get…ting hit. Rem…ember your voi…ce. Sa…fe."

"I will always keep you safe. I promise. You don't ever have to be afraid again."

She falls asleep in his arms. It felt so good to finally hold her after all this time. She also felt so tiny in his arms. He laid her hack so she could rest but wouldn't let go of his shirt. He smiled.

"I'm right here."

He kissed her cheek and moved to the chair. He fell asleep holding her hand. He slept through the nurses coming to check on Mia. He didn't wake up until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He opened his eyes and saw Grace smiling at him. She motioned him to follow her and he did. He walked into the waiting room and found all the Grey's there.

"How is she?"

"She's fine." He said. "She did have a nightmare around two this morning. She woke up screaming, asking for the baby."

"Oh God." Grace gasped. "Does she know?"

""I'm sorry. I didn't want to be the one to tell her."

"You had no fucking right to tell her Cross." Christian yelled.

"Don't stand here and fucking tell me what right I have or don't have." He yelled back. "I was there and I didn't want to tell her. She asked and pleaded. She remembers getting hit and my voice telling her everything was going to be ok. I was there. Every time I close my eyes I see her flying through the air and hitting the ground." He stepped up to Christian. "I WAS THERE. You don't know what that does to me. Don't give me shit."

"Gideon." Grace says. "How did she react?"

"I'm sorry Grace for my outburst." He said. "She broke down and cried. I held her until she fell asleep. She hasn't woken up yet."

"We're here if you want to go change and do whatever you want."

"I'd like to stay until she wakes up."

"Of course."

Grace walked into Mia's room and Gideon walked up to Christian.

"Don't get in my face again Grey." He said. "You won't like the repercussions. I guarantee it. I'm going to get some coffee."

He walked out and toward the lounge where they had the coffee. He took a deep breath and let it out. He poured a cup of coffee and sat down in a chair. He closed his eyes and the image of Mia is the first thing he sees, just like always.

"You need to give Christian a break. He's very overprotective of Mia and he feels like he let her down. We both do." Elliott said. "He's not going to let anyone else hurt her and that includes you. We don't understand this thing that you have with Mia."

"Well that makes two of us." Gideon said.

"She's awake and you are first person she asked for. Christian doesn't like that."

"Too bad. I don't give a damn what he likes and doesn't like."

He said leaving Elliott standing in the lounge shaking his head. He leaves walking behind Gideon. He sees the doctor enter the room ahead of him and just strides him. Gideon sees Mia and her face lights up.

"Thought you left."

"Not without telling you."

Christian watched the exchange with a sour look on his face. Gideon notices Mia looking at Christian.

"Christian stop."

Gideon smirks but the doctor speaking interrupts his thoughts.

"How are you doing Miss Grey?"

"I'm sore and tired."

"Do you remember what brought you here?"

"I remember being hit. I know I lost the baby." She says tearing up.

Before anyone can react Gideon is there drawing her into his arms. "Has anyone explained your injuries to you?"

"No we haven't." Grace says.

"Then let me explain." He says. "You have a broken leg and arm on the left side where you hit the pavement. You brain swelled with the impact when your head had with the pavement. You were in a coma until the swelling went down. You did lose your baby but we also found a tear in your uterus which we did repair."

"Will I be able to have a baby?"

"Yes but we advise you no to have one for at least a couple of years." He said. "Your ribs were also bruised. Those have healed nicely. You've been in the bed for three weeks. If everything continues to improve you will be move to a regular room. Then we will start physical therapy on your good leg and arm. The cast should come off in about three more weeks. Then you will need therapy for your arm and leg."

"When will she be able to fly home? I have a private jet." Christian asks.

"If everything goes according to plan, she can fly home the week of Thanksgiving. The casts should be off."

Gideon looked down at Mia when she flinched when they talked about taking her home. He was the only that noticed.

"I want her moved to a private wing. I want security at the nurse's station. No one comes near her room that doesn't have clearance. I want everyone that comes into contact with Mia to be checked out. If possible arrange for just one nurse in the daytime and one at night while she is here."

"Yes Mr. Cross. Anything else?"

"No. I will also be talking the director of the hospital to make sure my request are met."

"I understand. If that's all then I have other patients I need to see."

"That's all and thank you."

"IF you have any question have the nurse call me. I will get back to you as soon as possible."

The doctor left and Christian narrowed his eyes at Gideon.

"I don't need …"

"Thank you Gideon for everything. We appreciate everything you are doing for Mia. Don't we Christian?" Grace said.

Christian just turned around and left. Mia looked at Gideon and just blushed. He eased her back to her bed.

"I need to go and take a shower and change. I'll be back after lunch. You rest. If you need me for anything call me. Your mom has my number."

"Ok and thank you."

"You don't need to thank me."

He stood up and kissed her cheek. He moved to ear. "I'll be back little one and we'll talk. Grace."

"Gideon. I'll be here until you get back."

He left calling Angus that he was ready to leave. He checked his emails and made a few phone calls. He notices he had a couple of missed calls from his mother, one from his sister, and one from Eva. The last one made him angry. He had nothing to talk to her about and he wanted nothing to do with her. He wasn't going to fall for her charms like he did at first. That was a mistake he wasn't going to repeat.

He got home showered and changed and was drinking a cup of coffee when his phone rang.

"Cross."

"Mr. Cross."

"Yes Preston what is it?"

"I have the reports ready for you but the owner of the company wants to meet with you today. I explained that you were out of the office at the time and he would have to meet the team and he refuses. He'll be at your office at three."

"Fine. Have the reports on my desk. I will be there in thirty."

He hangs up and calls the florist he uses and has some flowers sent to Mia. He describes what he wants and they assure him it will be delivered. He went to the office in a bad mood. Because of this stupid meeting he wasn't going to be able see Mia until this evening. All he knew was that he was going to rush this meeting. No one demanded a meeting with him. He was the one that demanded meetings. He had a team that worked on projects for him. He strode into his building and into the elevator. At the top floor he got off and started barking orders at his assistant.

"Scott, I want you to get me all the information you can on Kavanagh media. I want to know who owns it, it shareholders, their financials. Whatever you can find? Also I want my scheduled cleared the week of Thanksgiving. I will be out of town and I won't be revealing where I am. Call Preston and have him get his team together in the conference room in at two."

"Yes Mr. Cross."

"One more thing. If a Grace or Mia Grey call at any time you alert me immediately. I don't care if I'm in a meeting or not."

"Yes sir." Scott asked. "Do you want the usual refreshment for the meeting?"

"I would like to say no but I might get thirsty."

He sat behind his desk and looked at the reports. Not being able to concentrate on the paper in front of his face. He got up and went to the windows overlooking the city. He called Grace to tell her he wouldn't be able to go back until the meeting he had at three. She told him that she would tell Mia and that she was sleeping.

By the time three came, Gideon was frustrated. For the first time in his life he had no interest in his company. He didn't want to be there. He realized Mia was under his skin and instead of hating it. He liked it. He pushed the meeting as fast as he could. The owner had brought his own team and there was a woman who was probably in her late twenties and she kept looking at him. She would lick her lips and push out her chest. He had one rule: he didn't mix business with pleasure. He ignored her and listened to others talk. The phone rang. He answered it.

"Cross."

"Mr. Cross there is a call on line two for you. It's Miss Mia Grey."

"Thank you." he pushed a button.

"Hey."

"I hope I didn't interrupt your meeting."

"They can wait." He said turning in his chair. "How are you feeling?"

"The same. They want to go ahead and move me to a room tonight. They are going to disconnect some of the machines. I told them I want to wait for you unless you aren't going to be able to make it."

"As soon as I'm finished here, I'm heading straight there. Tell them to wait."

"I will and I will let you get back to your meeting." Mia said. "Thanks for the flowers. They are very pretty and brighten this dreary room up."

He laughed. "I'm glad you did. I will see later."

"Bye Gideon."

"Bye little one."

As soon as he hung up his smiled disappeared and is attitude changed. Gideon Cross the business man was back. The others around the table were stunned to say the least. They have never seen Gideon take a personal call during a meeting before much less laugh.

"Continue."

They signed the contact after two hours and they shook hands. The owner wanted to go out and celebrate.

"I'm sorry but I have a previous engagement." He said. "By the way let me make one thing clear. You don't get to demand meetings with me. I demand them of you. I would appreciate if you leave Miss Hollis out of our next meeting. I don't appreciate being ogled during a meeting. I don't mix business with pleasure. It would wise to remember that. Ladies, gentleman."

He strode out and back to his office. He gathered his briefcase and put some files in it. He changed into a polo shirt and carried his suit jacket barked "goodnight" to Scott and rode the elevator down. Angus was waiting at the curb and he slid into the back seat. The short ride he studied the file that Scott had put on his desk. It was everything on Kavanagh. Before he knew it he was at the hospital. He left his jacket in the car and took his briefcase with him. He rode the elevator with his heart beating fast in his chest. He got off and saw how quiet it was. He turned the corner and found Ryan standing at the door. He walked passed him and found the waiting room empty. The door to Mia's room was open and he leaned against the door frame. He saw Grace dozing in a chair next to the bed. His gaze landed on Mia. She must have sensed him. Her eyes opened and she smiled.

"Gideon."

"Little one."
